  • Why Doesn't Mac iCal Match iOS Cal Alert Options?

I have read all the issues with the wacky integration between iCal and iOS Cal integration.   My question regards the options to set for alert on an event.  I like the default options on the iPhone on 15 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 1 day, 2 days.   How can I get iCal to offer this same options when creating a new event on Mac OS X?

I am completely disgusted w/ Apple at this point!!!  I've had my iPhone 5 for about a year now and I've NEVER been able to sync it w/ my pc (yes.......I've tried ALL the suggested fixes for my version of Windows, before anyone else starts regurgitating all the crap I've read thru a dozen times to no avail).  Basically.....if you want to really address your problem by 'reinstalling' itunes; you'd better have your schedule for the ENTIRE NIGHT clear because you'll be waiting for itunes to download for a good 5 hours.  (occasionally you'll read some knuckle head's feedback, who is probably an Apple employee, saying that it "only takes 5 minutes".  I'd highly suggest not even paying attention to these morons!!
Yes I realize that I haven't contributed anything productive to this thread.....yes I realize it will irritate some people.....however they'll need to deal with it because at this point, I'm simply using this thread to 'vent' my frusteration w/ Apple.  Horrible update!!  Horrible support!!  Horrible suggested fixes and even worse acknowledgment of your customer base's problems w/ your product!!!  I'm seriously contemplating selling my iphone and going android again.  Samsung's looking pretty good right about now!!

  • ICal 2.0.5 and iOS 4.1 vs. MobileMe

I have a PPC iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11 and utilizing iCal 2.0.5. These are the latest versions of the respective software that this computer can run. I recently paid for a family MobileMe account in the hopes of coordinating my calendars and contacts across several devices (PPC iMac G5, iPhone 3GS, new 27" Intel iMac (Leopard), and an iPad.
When I originally tried to connect the iPad to the PPC iMac, I got an error message saying the software was not current enough to support the iPad. I went over to the kids' computer, the Intel iMac, and set up the MobileMe and iPad there. I came back to the PPC iMac and activated .Mac syncing, expecting iCal on the PPC iMac to transfer everything to MobileMe.
The contacts transferred fine, but the calendars did not. My PPC iCal had different data than MobileMe and my iPhone 3GS. I read a couple of Apple support articles, backed up my phone and iCal, and reset sync data (calendars and contacts only) from the PPC iMac to .Mac, ostensibly MobileMe. Again, some of the calendar data transferred but all did not. At that point, I went back to iCal and unchecked "sync with .Mac" because I need the PPC iMac and iPhone 3GS data to conform.
    The big questions are:
Will the older version of iCal (2.0.5) successfully update MobileMe? If so, how do I set that up? If not, tell my husband we need to buy a new computer.
Is there any way currently to accurately synchronize my data between the PPC iMac, the iPhone 3GS, the iPad, and MobileMe?
I fear the old PPC iMac needs to go.
    Thanks for reading this far,
    LZRandall

    Please check http://pygmysoftware.com/software/scalp/
There is a new version of Scalp working with 2.0.5 again and brings back usable FTP-export.

My problem was (and still is) that i couldn't sync new events from my macbook to the touch.
i also created a new calendar to ical and checked if naming could be the reason. but the new calendar doesn't show up in the info part of itunes. even if i select replace all calendars on my ipod.

  • ICal and iCloud

Okay, this whole iCloud thing is a bit above my head right now.  I seem to be making it work, but am a bit confused, and want to make sure I am doing things correctly.  Where there is an actual question, I will place in the quote box... but, there may be implied questions elsewhere, or if you find I have made a bad assumption, please make me aware!
First of all, I have an iPhone 4 (IOS 5) and a MacBook.  My husband has an iPhone 4 (IOS 4-he resists change and has not updated his IOS).  I neglected to tell you what system my MacBook is on because I want to show you the order in which I did everything.
So, for sake of argument, let's say up through October, I entered events into my iPhone 4 (IOS 4) and/or on my MacBook (Snow Leopard), and then synced through iTunes (hard wire connection to MacBook), sharing calendars between my husband's iPhone and I by syncing back and forth.
Then, I alone (my husband has not updated his iPhone) updated to IOS 5 on my iPhone.  It seemed to automatically export my calendars (All on my Mac) as they were to iCloud calendars.  So, I abandoned adding events to the "All on My Mac" calendars and only entered into my iCloud calendars.  However, it wasn't until recently I noticed I had to create a CALDAV link to iCloud to see those new/edited events on my Mac under Snow Leopard.  My husband, in the meantime has been using his calendars that aren't iCloud affiliated since he is still on IOS 4
I am wondering what will happen with those "On my Mac" calendars he has on his iPhone if I already had those calendars on my iPhone when I switched to iCloud?- we use the same apple ID.
It has been a while since I synced his iPhone.
So, then, I had a duplicate sets of calendars in my iCal (iCloud and the Mac-driven calendars).
But, then a week ago, I downloaded Lion onto my MacBook.  It seems to still be connected via that CALDAV link I did.  Not sure if that is still the most efficient way-this was a workaround for Snow Leopard,
but how is Lion supposed to be set up for iCloud calendars?
(I also am unsure all the time why my computer is asking to use a password using my email account in my keychain- wording is wrong, but I am sure others have gotten this same request.  I have denied, I have accepted, but never said always allow because I am not sure what it is trying to do.)
    So, my question,
can I delete my old "On my Mac" calendars since I have abandoned them?  What will happen when I connect my husband's iPhone if those calendars are missing?  Could I just sync the new iCloud calendars as described above instead onto his iPhone?  And, will it from then on out allow him to use iCloud, or does he need to be on IOS 5?
BTW, I don't know if it matters, but I have never had a .me account.  I read somewhere you can get a .me email account by having Lion.  I think I read that I need to set that up in iCloud on my MacBook, but have not done that.  My current apple id is an independant email account that I've had for years.  Not sure what will happen if I ever have to get rid of that email address.
I am sure I can change my contact email address in my apple profile, but would that change my apple id to the new email address I give (whether it be a .me email or a different, let's say, gmail account)?
My iPhone seems to be syncing okay.  But, would like to clean up my iCal and I want to make sure I do things properly when it comes to syncing with my husband's iPhone if he stays at IOS4 (and how I sync him up- can it be automatic or do I have to continue the hard wire approach?) and what I should do differently in setting up his iPhone if he switches to IOS5 (and what steps I should do as I update him to IOS5 so calendars aren't lost or duplicated- as he has added entries to his calendar for example -"Husband's calendar"- and I have an iCloud calendar named that, but he has added more to the "on my mac" version on his iPhone and I have added some to the iCloud version.)

u mean mobileme yes? first thing to do is to go to mobileme ON THE WEB and see if the events are there. then check to make sure you are using the right calendar in iCal and mobileme is set to sync ur calendar in the first place.
    In iCal:
    In system preferences:
then if that all looks good and still no dice, there is a procedure in the mobileme forum for resyncing all your mobileme stuff.

upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
    4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal.  Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once?  If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
    1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
    2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups.  They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.
    Hope that information helps.

  • App Store, iCal and Contacts have disappeared from applications

Yesterday, I tried to purchase By Word from the app store on my mac mini, only to find that clicking on the icon in the dock turned it into an icon with a question mark on it. I rebooted, and updated, thinking that might be the cause, but no joy - I also noticed the same happened to iCal and Contacts (Mail and everything else in my dock works fine still).
I checked in applications and the missing apps are nowhere to be found. I also ran the combo update for 10.7.3 as I read elsewhere that this could reinstall the app-store if people have accidentally deleted it, no joy.
I haven't deleted any of these apps, and although I don't use iCal or Contacts on the mini, I'd like to understand how they've disappeared.
I've not used my mini for a while, and not purchased anything from the app store for a long time, so it's hard to tell what may be a contributing factor to the disappearance (I cleared a bunch of stuff from my trash before I realised they were gone too unfortunately, so I can't even tell if they were in there or not).
in the last couple of sessions, I've installed dropbox, anti-social.cc, handbrake, updated magic prefs, run a system update (now running 10.7.3) and installed the latest version of node.js
I've never deleted any application from this machine (not had it too long), but to see if I could have done it accidentally, I removed magic prefs and I'd have had to go into applications specifically to remove them - which I definitely haven't done.
I'm the only login for this machine, it's a personal one, so no worries there. I've even checked for flashback virus and no trace.
I'm absolutely out of ideas, and I can live without iCal and Contacts, but I'd like the app store back if at all possible. I've seen some non-apple sites where people have extracted the app store from a package for individual install, and if necessary, I suppose I'll have to go down that route, but I'd rather keep things official if posisble, and get some understanding into what's happening.
If there are any logs, or other information which can help with this post, please let me know and I'll dig them out - if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd be really greatful.
    Thanks

OK, I understand.  Try this ... it's much safer.  It will simply restore your backup, but not do anything to your iOS:
While your iPhone is plugged in to iTunes, right click on the iPhone icon on the left side of the iTunes display.
Choose "Restore from backup ..." from the pop-up menu that appears.
Again, what this will do is place that backup back on your iPhone without changing iOS.  So you should be very confident in the backup contents before doing this.

  • How can I book services in ical and have that booking generate an editable invoice in numbers

I would like to book an appointment with billable services in ical and have that booking generate an invoice which I can edit in numbers. Possible? working on an ipad 4th generation.

I would think with an Applescript  you could create duplicate of an invoice template which is saved in a specific file (and location) and a calendar entry with a shortcut to that new file.
This would be something you, or someone else, would have to write, test and deploy.  It is not built into Numbers.
You could do this manually by creating a template for your document.
Each time you book an event you open the tamplate and save as the invoice number, then create a calendar event where you include the new invoice document as an attachment:
Since you have posted in the forum for Numbers on Mac OS X you are getting people who mostly work in Numbers on a Mac (I am one of them).
I will request your post be moved to the Numbers for iOS forum

I have Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac Pro, but I can not install it icloud. I can only get through imail, iCal and Address Book in Mac native anyone know teach me how to work with Outlook 2011 icloud? thank you

"iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion; or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 or an up-to-date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require a Wi-Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices."

  • MobileMe and iOS 4- Syncing Has Stopped Working

Since "upgrading" to iOS 4, MobileMe Calendar Syncing has stopped working. This is the worst upgrade. Slow iPhone, spotty usability, and now MobileMe syncing isn't working.
Anyone else having the same problem? Any fixes. I've tried the usual. Push: On, MobileMe Sync: On, etc....

Like you, I ran into MobileMe synchronisation problems after I upgraded my iPhone’s software to iOS 4. I have an iMac running under Mac OS X version 10.6.4 and a 3G iPhone. I was able to solve the problem with the following “brute-force” (but very simple) sequence, which I also used after prior iPhone software updates and it has always worked for me. Note that it involves the removal of all contacts and calendars from the iPhone so if you are worried that you may not succeed in copying the data back, you may want to look for another solution.
    (1) Make sure that MobileMe is synchronized with iCal and Address Book:
    Open MobileMe Sync Preferences
Click on the “Sync Now” button
    (2) Back-up the data in the iCal and Address Book applications (just in case):
File / Export / iCal Archive
File / Export / Address Book Archive
    (3) To avoid erasing the data on the computer if something goes wrong:
    Open MobileMe Sync Preferences
    Select the “Sync” tab
    Un-check “Synchronize with MobileMe”
    (4) On the iPhone:
    Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars
In the “Accounts” section, select the MobileMe account
    Turn “Contacts” off
    Select “Delete from My iPhone”
    Turn “Calendars” off
    Select “Delete from My iPhone”
    (5) Check that all contacts and calendars have been deleted from the iPhone, then do:
    Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars
In the “Accounts” section, select the MobileMe account
    Turn “Contacts” on
    Turn “Calendars” on
    (6) Wait (it may take a while) until all contacts and calendars have been updated on the iPhone, then do:
    Open MobileMe Sync Preferences
    Select the “Sync” tab
    Check “Synchronize with MobileMe”
After having done all this, changes made to contacts or calendars on the iMac or iPhone were properly synchronized with MobileMe. You may have tried something similar without success, but if you have not, hopefully the above will work for you too.

  • Fiddling with Syncing Resulted in Mail, iCal, and Quicksilver all freezing

    Hello,
I've been fiddling around with syncing services for quite some time. Today, though, I think I did something fundamentally problematic, because Mail, iCal, and Quicksilver will all simultaneously freeze and become non-responsive. Address Book freezes as well. I think Mail, though, is the application that freezes the most.
Is there a way to permanently fix this?
Possible culprits, though there may be others:
    Plaxo (though I doubt it)
    Mail Act-On
GCALDaemon (very possible because I stopped the terminal manipulations half-way through, realizing that it wouldn't work on Leoopard, which I'm getting in less than three weeks. Deleted all the files that showed up in Spotlight as related to GCALDaemon)
    Thank you!

  • IMail, iCal, and Address Book vs. iPhone

I have multiple email accounts hosted on Google. Each email account has contacts associated with it.
While they sync fine to my iPhone via the MS Exchange configuration on the new iOS 4. And I can sync and manage them from my iPhone, I cannot find a way to sync and manage them from my Macbook.
I.E., while I am able to sync contacts with one email account hosted on Google from the Address Book, I am unable to sync and manage the contacts within each of the multiple Google hosted email accounts on my Macbook with the OSX Address Book...only the one.
Can this be accomplished for syncing and managing contacts from OSX to the contacts associated with multiple Google hosted email accounts, and if so how?
If not, can the functionality of the iPhone Mail Calendar and Contacts be added to the iMail, iCal and Address Book in future releases of OS X?

I don't now about the printing part but I know about Entourage.
For starters, any Microsoft software *****. Entourage is slow to launch, uses loads of processor power, suffers from severe feature bloat and costs a pile of money.
Address Book/Mail is fast, well integrated, very Applescriptable and free.
I was an Entourage user until about 3 months ago, when I finally switched. I had enough of Entourage's glitches and resource hogging. Never regretted the change.
Only real complaint is that Entourage combines mail and Usenet, and is very convenient. There is no Mac mail/Usenet app that is as good as Entourage.

  • Linking multiple emails to a single event in ical and/or to do's

    Hi:
Often I receive emails and I want to link them to an event in ical. OS X does this just fine as long as there is date in the email that OS X can recognize. The problem is sometimes I get multiple emails relating to the same event and I would like to be able to link all of those emails to one single event in ical. My same questions applies to 'to do' items.
And a follow up question--say I receive an email that has no date explicit in the text-I've tried to find some function that would allow me to schedule a new event in ical and would link that email to it. (I hope that all makes sense) I'm open to whatever solution I'll even pay money for 3rd party software if anyone knows of a good program. But I"m looking to stick to the basic ical interface. Any suggestions?

    Hi rtwigg,
seems this is one of visio graphics limitation regarding the external data.
visio graphics, may only support for one row.
you may consider this idea :
"It is a good idea to separate your rows into visual units so that you have everything you need and nothing else in a single row. To link a shape to a data row, simply drag the row from the external data window and drop it on the shape. A default data
graphic should immediately appear next to the shape displaying some data from the row. From here you are able to customize the graphic to fit your needs"
by means, you may need to use the visio client.
