ICal appointments in mail notes?

I am pretty sure this is not a feature by default but would love to be able to add ical events to notes and then have them show up in ical, pretty much the way todos can. Why would I want this? Well I use notes the way Apple demonstrated them, to outline projects. Of course projects have a lote of notes and todos, but they also have milestones and other key dates. Although I can add milestones in iCal directly, when I review the project, I can't easily find these milestones. The only way to do it is to add the milestone as a text in the note and also add it as an appointment in iCal.
I'd like to know what other people think of the idea or whether there is a better way to use notes and ical for managing projects.

Seeing the same thing here.... iCal linked to Exchange 2007 server. Worked fine in 10.6.0 & and 10.6.1, but stopped working in 10.6.2.

  • ICal appointments edit is not working!

it's not possible to edit my appointments on the macbook in ical. There is no button for edit. now there are three buttons with accept, maybe and decline. can anyone help me?

This parameter only tells you that the change is sourced from F4 input help, not direct input, so it is pure for your knowledge but has nothing to do with the event triggering itself.
Anyhow this should work as long as you registered the events properly

  • Ical appointments in icloud not syncing with microsoft exchange

    Hi,
My company uses Microsoft Exchange server and most of the users (500 of them) use Microsoft Outlook. My CEO uses a Mac Air and has chosen to keep his calender appointments in iCloud using iCal. However, when he accepts calendar meeting requests from internal users, the appointments go into his Exchange account and don't appear on the cloud, despite that the Exchange calendar isn't set up in iCal. Up until a few days ago they went into his iCloud account, he tells me that he hasn't changed anything, although I think iCal has received a recent update.. I've checked on this forum and everything seems set up as it should be.
Is anyone able to offer any suggestions to how to reset this behaviour so that it goes back to how it should and appointments appear in iCloud?
    Thanks in advance.

It looks like Sean Greenlee's response was spot on. My IT guy found an article on removing the phone partnership.
Per him, "You can use the remote wipe command to delete
a mobile device partnership from the Exchange server. This action, which is primarily useful for "housekeeping" purposes, will delete from the Exchange server all states that are associated with a specified device. If a user tries to connect a mobile device
to the Exchange server after the partnership between the mobile device and the Exchange server has been deleted, the mobile device user will be forced to re-establish the partnership with the Exchange server."
He completed the remote wipe today, I removed my account, re-started the phone and re-installed the account and everything seems to be working.
    Best of luck.

  • When I receive appointments by email and accept them they go into the enourage "on my mac" ical calendar which is not synced with mobileme.  How do I change where appointments are put ?

When I receive appointments by email and accept them they go into the enourage "on my mac" ical calendar which is not synced with mobileme.  How do I change where appointments are put ?
Or how can I choose where the appointment is put ?
I use the mobileme sync services so the ical calendars that are synced are those in the "[email protected]" group.
    Please help !
    Nick

Actually you can't drag the appointment to ano calendar - its says "You can’t make changes to this invitation., Only the organiser can change this event"
Also if you double click on the received appointment and open the window the only calendars shown that you can select are the 'on my mac" ones, and not the sync'd ones.
    Any ideas welcome !!

  • Ical appointment to busy not showing in week view

Hi, When I make an appointment in iCal there is no showing the difference between busy or free in week view. what is wrong?

    I had the same problem!
I just subscribed to MobileMe. Added a To Do in Mail & looked for it in iCal.
I could not see it in iCal. Where is it?
Ok i wasted about two hours reading the mail help pages, Apple support discussion threads & googling on this until i realised what is the problem.
The answer is IT DOES NOT APPEAR IN YOUR CALENDAR!
You must UNHIDE the To Do list in iCal which will appear on the right hand side pane of iCal. Sheesh!!!
This is another example of Apple obsfucation in their apps.
The first time i tried to use the much vaunted iPhoto i nearly went mad trying figure out what it was doing & how to manage my precious images. Like a lot of these 'iApps' the interface is overly dumbed down & poorly documented.

  • ICal 5.0 does not recognized accepted invitations from Outlook!

After searching for a while, I could not find a solution to my problem.
I sent out meeting invitations to Outlook users from iCal 5.0 (Lion 10.7.1) within my group. We are all using the same Exchange 2010 mail server! When people send their reply, I can see the "accepted" in the e-mail subject, but double-clicking on the ics attachment only works for some people to show the "accepeted" in my iCal event.
Now I tried/did the following: I saved the ics files and open them with a text editor. The ics reply that did not work had an extra line that started with COMMENT. I removed that line, saved the ics file and double clicked on it. Now that invitee shows as well as "accepted" in iCal 5.0. GREAT I thought...
BUT, I got a reply from an external person, who uses Outlook on an Exchange 2007 server. His ics file also showed that COMMENT line. I did the same as above, but this time nothing chnages in iCal ??? I even changed "2007" to "2010" in the ics file, but still no change in the invitee status. Why ???
This is EXTREMELY annoying, since I have meetings every day and want to use iCal to handle them.  If I could change the state of the invitee manually, that would be a work-around, but not a solution. How would that work?
Any hints that could help me are highly appreciated. Obviously a compatibility issue !!! No one to blame... just looking for a soultion.

No get this:  I received a reply from another Mac user using iCal 4.0.4 showing "event accepeted" in the subject. But my iCal 5.0 will NOT recognize his acceptance.  What is going on?

  • ICal appointments lost since 2011

I have lost all my iCal appointments, what to do? Everything since 2011 is lost. I went to the Apple store and they could not help me. We were trying to find out if I had another apple account, of which I cannot retrieve the password back. It might be possible that i had an ipad and put it to wifi and in that way icloud deleted all my appointments??? I will destroy the ipad physically and never use this stupid icloud again, but is there any chance to recover the appointments?

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro Intel laptop to Snow Leopard, and my iCal lost my "personal" and "family" calendars. There is no longer any content in those calendars in username/library/iCal - but there is in "work", "vacation", and another custom calendar. These events in these calendars have also disappeared from MobileMe, with the exception of about 4 or 5 random events over the past couple of years (out of probably thousands in those two calendars over several years, as these were loaded from an Outlook calendar in 2006). Interestingly, all my recent events in the missing calendars are still on my iPhone.
I tried the com.apple.iCal.plist on the desktop suggestion, but this did not recover any content. Any suggestions? Even some ideas about why just these two calendars (with the bulk of my content this year) have been affected, not the others? Very strange (not to mention very frustrating, as I'll have to recreate all of that content, it seems). Thanks.

  • Accepting Ical invites - in mail or Ical?

Using 10.7.2, Icloud and latest versions.
When I accept an ical invite trough Ical the Inviter will not receive my answer but if I answer through mail he gets the answer.
I would like to be able to answer directly in Ical - when I press accept no response is sent/received.
The Inviter is using 10.7.2, Icloud and latest versions.
    /e

    I have the same problem.
I managed to get from Palm Desktop to Ical by going through Tiger and the new isync. This works fine except when I invite a Windows user (outlook) to an ical event. When she tries to open my invitation, she gets a message saying something like "calendar error, go from a lunar to a Gregorian calendar."
OK, this is very Microsoft and very funny but any ideas on how to manage this?
From Windows to Mac, it works well.
    Thanks

  • Black box behind iCal or Apple mail windows in OS 10.8.2

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I sometimes get a black box behind the window of iCal or Apple Mail. It goes away when I quit and relaunch the app. This does not happen all the time, only sometimes. Also- so far it has only effected the two Apple apps.
I only notice ir when I am moving a window out of the way and the black box (the same size as the window) is left behind.

If the issue only shows up once every five days and you can't reproduce it, I don't have any suggestions. There are a few other reports like yours. I don't know whether it's an obscure bug or a conflict with third-party software.

  • ICal "created by Mail" problem

After updating to OS 10.6.6 iCal became unusable on my main Mac Pro. All events and To Dos are properly displayed, but when trying to add a new calendar event by double-clicking on a date the following dialog box appears:
"This calendar was created by Mail" (not true). "You can't add events to a Mail calendar. Mail calendars only contain to do items created in Mail" (also not true, all calendar events are properly displayed).
Doing the usual maintenance steps (restart, fix permissions, reload the iCal application) did not solve the issue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - too much of my life is in there to have to recreate it all.

Look at the sidebar when ical is open. At the top you'll see a "to do" calendar, it may be under a heading - mine says Personal - this was created when a to do item was created in Mail. If the "to do" is under a heading as mine is click the arrow so the folder closes and only the heading not the "to do" is showing. By default ical will open up with that item highlighted, if the arrow is closed ical will open with one of your normal Mobile Me calendars highlighted.
Whichever one is highlighted in the sidebar is the one you create an event on when you click on a date in the calendar window. If that "to do" one is highlighted it won't let you create an event since it's managed by to dos created in Mail. Once you make sure that one of the other calendars is highlighted you can then click on a date and create the event.

  • Show appointments in Mail?

    Hi,
Perhaps I have missed something, but is there a way to show appointments in Mail as in Thunderbird or Outlook? I find it not practical to have both Mail and Calendar open, rather than having it integrated in one piece of software?
    Thanks

How about updating those as they are a bit old.
Try looking at that user's account from another machine and from
    WebAccess (if installed).
It is good to separate the PC from the user account as sometimes an odd
problem can be from some funky issue on the PC.
I'm not surprised that different versions of the Exchange 2010 client
doesn't make a difference as there is the formatting is set when
Exchange formats the outgoing to the internet.
A thought there, is your user setup as a contact on the Exchange
system, there have been settings in the past that caused invalid
formatting of internet messages. Something to the effect that 'this
user is on OutLook/Exchange vs regular internet standards'.
Has there been a single appointment sent from a user on that Exchange
system to two of your users?

  • Problem creating iCal Events from Mail in Leopard

The new function that allows the user to create iCal events from Mail messages is quite impressive and very useful. Unfortunately the data detectors seem to have trouble with certain commonplace date formats. While the detector recognises the date, it cannot activate an event in iCal. For instance the data detector will pick up the dates in these formats and create iCal events:
    30 October 2007
    30 Oct 07
    30/10/07
    but not in this format:
    30-Oct-07
In the latter case, the data detector recognises it is a date, produces the drop menu, but will not carry through and create an event to iCal. It's annoying in that many companies use the latter format in their communications. Any workaround?

There is another problem I have found.
I have my computer set in international settings formats to show the date in the "English format"
January 4th 2007 is 4/1, however an entry in mail 4/1 is put into iCal on the first of April!
I found this out after looking for a meeting I knew I had put in for next week.
beware, can this bug be fixed?

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • Junk mail not automatically moved to Junk folder

    Hello.
I'm using an IMAP account and have configured Mail to move junk mail to the chosen junk mail folder (junk is not filtered on the server but on my client). Since the junk mail filter is still learning sometimes junk mail is not detected and still goes to the inbox. That's okay.
If I then select that message it is somehow miraculously detected and marked as junk. However, it is not automatically moved to the junk folder but remains in the inbox marked as junk?
Is this desired behaviour? Why is the mail not automatically moved to the junk folder, like it is when I manually mark a mail as junk?
    Thanks in advance

I just happened to notice that even mail that is automatically marked as spam/junk remains in my inbox. So I open the inbox folder and there is message that is marked as junk. Only when I manually reset and set the junk status is the message moved to the junk folder.
This seems to be the case in an IMAP acount where all folders (sent, drafts, spam, etc.) are subfolders of the actual inbox folder.
Is anyone else experiencing this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance
