ICal back-up restore failes

Dear helper,
I have updated all my devices to Lion and iOS 5. I was able to move from MobileMe to iCloud. Due to the move iCal showed double calanders, so I removed all the calendars to start fresh again with the back-up I made before. Unfortunately restoring the back-up keeps failing. I've tried it on my iMac as well as on my MacBook Pro. What happends is that after I click "Restore" I can see all the calendars in iCal again, but after a few seconds they disappear. Does anyone know how I can solve this?
Best regards,
edjas

Hi mate, could you please tell me how you resolved this issue? I'm having the same problem.
Thanks

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

  • System Image Restore Fails "No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found"

    Greetings
                                        - Our critical server image backup Fails on one
    server -
Two 2008 R2 servers. Both do a nightly "Windows Server Backup" of Bare Metal Recovery, System State, C:, System Reserved partition, to another storage hard drive on the same machine as the source. Active Directory is on the C: The much larger D: data
partition on each source hard drive is not included.
Test recovery by disconnecting 500G System drive, booting from 2008R2 Install DVD, recovering to a new 500G SATA hard drive.
    Server A good.
Server B fails. It finds the backed-up image, & then we can select the date we want. As soon as the image restore is beginning and the timeline appears, it bombs with "The system image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system
disk can be found." There is a wordy Details message but none of it seems relevant (we are not using USB etc).
At some point after this, in one (or two?) of the scenarios below, (I forget exactly where) we also got :
"The system image restore failed. (0x80042403)"
The destination drive is Not "Excluded".
Used   diskpart clean   to remove volumes from destination drive. Recovery still errored.
Tried a second restore-to drive, same make/model Seagate ST3500418AS, fails.
Tried the earliest dated B image rather than the most recent, fail.
The Server B backups show as "Success" each night.
Copied image from B to the same storage drive on A where the A backup image is kept, and used the A hardware to attempt restore. Now only the latest backup date is available (as would occur normally if we had originally saved the backup to a network location).
Restore still fails.         It looks like its to do with the image rather than with the hardware.
Tried unticking "automatically check and update disk error info", still fail.
    Server A  SRP 100MB  C: 50.6GB on Seagate ST3500418AS 465.76GB  Microsoft driver 6.1.7600.16385   write cache off
    Server B  SRP 100MB  C: 102GB  on Seagate ST3500418AS 465.76GB  Microsoft driver 6.1.7600.16385   write cache off
Restore-to hard drive is also Seagate ST3500418AS.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/31595afd-396f-4084-b5fc-f80b6f40dbeb
"If your destination disk has a lower capacity than the source disk, you need to go into the disk manager and shrink each partition on the source disk before restoring."  Doesnt apply here.
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=439&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=4
for 0x80042403 says "The solution is really quite simple: the destination drive is of a lower capacity than the image's source drive." I cant see that here.
    Thank you so much.

    Hello,
    1. While recovering the OS to the new Hard disk, please don't keep the original boot disk attached to the System. There is a Disk signature for each hard disk. The signature will collide if the original boot disk signature is assigned to the new disk.
You may attach the older disk after recovering the OS. If you want to recover data to the older disk then they should be attached as they were during backup.
    2. Make sure that the new boot disk is attached as the First Boot disk in hardware (IDE/SATA port 0/master) and is the first disk in boot order priority.
    3. In Windows Recovery Env (WinRE) check the Boot disk using: Cmd prompt -> Diskpart.exe -> Select Disk = System. This will show the disk where OS restore will be attempted. If the disk is different than the intended 2 TB disk then swap the disks in
    correct order in the hardware.
    4. Please make sure that the OS is always recovered to the System disk. (Due to an issue: BMR might recover the OS to some other disk if System disk is small in size. Here the OS won't boot. If you belive this is the case, then you should attach the
bigger sized disk as System disk and/or exclude other disks from recovery). Disk exclusion is provided in System Image Restore/Complete PC Restore UI/cmdline.
    5. Make sure that Number and Size of disks during restore match the backup config. Apart from boot volumes, some other volumes are also considered critical if there are services/roles installed on them. These disks will be marked critical for recovery and
should be present with minimum size requirement.
    6. Some other requirements are discussed in following newsgroup threads:

  • HT1212 I am unable to get our of a continuous cycle when trying to update or restore my iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.

When I tried to update my iPad I got an error 9. Now, I am unable to access my iPad. It is in a continuous cycle when I try to update or restore the iPad 2. Plug in to iTunes 12.0.1 (latest version). Click update, told can't update, have to restore. Restore fails with error 9. Any help appreciated.
    Here's the cycle:
I plug in my iPad when “cable to iTunes shows on iPad screen. It says "Your iPad can't be updated, you must restore it to factory settings." That bad enough news, but it gets worse.
    Click Restore
    Extracting software…
    Preparing iPad for restore
    Waiting for iPad…
    Verifying iPad restore with Apple…
(empty bar under the Apple logo…does not show any activity)
“The iPad “iPad” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).”
Notes: I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) in the last week. It’s the first time I’m tried to backup/update my iPad since the iMac update.
I swapped out the USB cable to a new cable and get the same results.
I also unplugged all other USB devices from the iMac and security on my iPad and still get the same results.
I find it strange that it shows no Serial number for my my iPad 2 when plugged in. It shows “Serial Number: n/a on the screen when it displays: “iPad Recovery Mode To update your iPad without erasing its contents, click Update. To restore your iPad to its factory settings, click Restore iPad.
I prefer to update my iPad, but it displays “Your iPad can’t be updated, you must restore it to factory settings. If you previously backed up the iPad, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes.”
It’s a continuous loop. I get the display on my iPad to plug in the iPad to iTunes, plug it in which ends after going through the above procedure saying an error occurred (9).
So now I cannot use my iPad. When I turn it on I get the display showing me to plug it into iTunes with the cable. Since this is the only option I have I plug it in and the loop begins.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Yoga 13 System Image Restore Fails Due To Excluded Disk

    Hello:
I am trying to execute a restore from a system image disc created shortly after I installed my principal programs without destroying the OKR partition or files.  However, I  do not want to go all the way back to factory condition at this time.  The issue is that when I attempt to follow the reimage instructions in win 8.1, I am presented with a dialog box that has two check boxes.  The first asks "Format and repartition disk" and the second asks "only restore system drives".
Based on everything I've read about preserving the C:/ and D:/ drive partitions, I would have expected to check the second box and not the first.  But the system will not let me make this choice.  Instead, the first box is automatically checked, and greyed out, with a second dialogue asking me if there are any disks I want to exclude from repartitioning.  When following this second dialogue I am asked if I want to exclude Disk 0 (Samsung MZMTD128HAfV -00l1) which has 119Gb of capacity.  If I try to exclude this disk, the operation fails with following error:   "Restore failed because a disk that was critical at backup is excluded"  My question is, if I do not exclude this disk, will the restore operation still leave the D:/ partition intact so I can use OKR in the future.
I have read quite a bit of imformation here and elsewhere about restoring system images and OKR, but have not seen any discussion about this disalogue, or the fact that I am being forced to reformat and repartition the disk without excluding the d:/ drive.  Other posters have stated that retsoringa  system image will only restore C;? drive, but this dialogue seems to conflict with those statements.  Anyone else have any experience with this operation?
    Thank you,

  • Updated to OS5, restoration failed with error -50.

I updated the phone to OS5. Restoration failed with an error -50.
I lost all my contacts, email setup, photos and other configuration.
How do I get back my contacts?

    same thing happenned to me.
IOS5 installed fine, but the restore failed.
Eventually, I just logged in as if it was a new phone. iTunes remembered my apps, but all the data is still gone.
And then it backed up on me.
I'm on a winxp box, and I had gone into C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer
and I copied it to another location. So perhaps, if they get this fixed, I can recover the items from this old location.
but, to be honest, I have lost a whole day messing with this, and I am very annoyed.

  • 5s update/restore fail using itunes

i backed up my 5s with itunes so i could update my phone from 7.1 to 8.3; The update/restore failed; I have tried repeatedly; my phone is not functional, and I can't even restore to factory settings; In troubleshooting I have done the following: used most recent itunes,  disabled antivirus software  -still failing. My computer is running windows xp -is that why it is failing?  I don't know what to do. I need to get my phone back to functioning.

The answer to your question comes directly from the TS3694 article you attached above:
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.

if I backed up with a newer version of iOS than the phone I am trying to backup to.. Is there any way to bypass the setup assistant in order to download the new iOS on the new phone then go back and restore from my old phone?

Try deleting your last backup by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.  If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • IPhone Restore Failed

I recently had a problem with my iPhone, so I took it in to Apple and they replaced it with a new phone. I brought the phone home and tried to restore it to my last back up. About a minute into the restoring process, a message pops up on my iPhone that says "There was a problem during restore." Then it tells me to restart the phone and try to restore it again. Then I get a message on the computer saying the phone was disconnected during the restore process.
I've tried this process 4 or 5 times now and I keep getting the same message. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to restore my phone?
Also, I saw a video on youtube that said you could fix this problem by opening the hosts file in finder and deleting the gs.apple lines. The only problem is when I opened the hosts file there were no gs.apple lines.

Exactly the same problem for me - except mine is the same phone, not a new phone.
I had to wipe my iPhone clean and so later tried to restore it, opting to restore from previous backup. During the restore of previous backup data I get the message on my iPhone "Restore Failed. There was a problem during restore. Please restart your iPhone and try restoring again."
No matter how many times I perform the restore, I get the same message. There is NO error number, and there is NO error in iTunes - only on the iPhone screen. I too have no gs.apple.com entries in the hosts file on my Mac.
I have restored the iPhone backup file itself from several different points in time from my TimeMachine backups, but all of them produce the same result.

  • Restoring failed: There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal'

    Hi,
I am going through all those similar questions but non of them solved my issue.
Our database is lost by mistake, now we need to recover the database from the backup. The backup file is 4.23 GB and when I am trying to restore the database after 40 minutes, I am getting the error 701, There is insufficient system memory in resource pool
'internal' to run this query. Restored failed and when i close it, the state for the DB is still "Restoring".
I did all these challenges but no use, please advice me how to retreive my DB back it is very important and vital.
    enabled the "AWE"
    enbale/disable the resource governor
    changed the server
    re-install SQL server
Please help me to sort out the issue.

    Hi,
Thanks for your help. My server is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) (Intel X86) -  Developer Edition on Windows NT 6.1 <X86>
    Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB = 118
    Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB = 0
in resource pool 'internal' ( not allowed ) . I install SQL server 64 bit on another 64 bit operating system as well but this time I got another error.
The backup file can not be added it gives Sql server timeout error. ( this work for another smaller backup file) . I configure the query  timeout but not solved. What you suggest now?
SP1 for SQL server 2008 R2 is not the latest but the latest is SP2. Please apply it when you move ahead.
Since you had 32 bit this error can come.I cannot reproduce the error neither I know what all queries or processes were running when you got OOM error during restore so its hard to tell .Did you set value for MAX server memory in sp_configure.How much physical
    RAM do you have ?
Can you post complete error when you tried to restore backup on 64 bit. Also make sure you cannot restore backup from 2008 R2 to lower versions.( like 2008, 2005)

My restore db failed in SP  2013
i   followed the  steps  mentioned here:
    http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/sharepoint-2013/archive/2013/02/07/back-up-content-database-from-sharepoint-2010-and-restore-it-to-sharepoint-2013.aspx
but i am getting restore failed.
    help is appreciated!

You might want to include your error message.
Based on your other thread you're duplicating a database on the same server, so those steps aren't quite perfect.
This guide covers the process better for 2014, and you can see previous versions as well:

  • Apple Configurator - restore failed

I work in an educational institution.  I want to be able to set up one ipad, back that up using configurator and then restore that backup to all my other ipads.  I have updated all ipads to IOS 6.  I update all apps on one machine and put them in the folders that I want.  I created a profile that has the network login information and a few restrictions.  I backup the ipad that I have configured and then try to have it restored to the other ipads.  I get either restore failed or profile not verified. Either way, the apps are not on the ipad I am trying to restore to.  I have legal copies of all apps, some bought through the volume purchase plan and many free apps.  When the restore fails it is because it timed out.  Any suggestions?

I'm the IT tech at our University's library and we have 20 iPads surpervised.  i'm having this problem too since the iOs6 update.  I've tried to pinpoint a specific faulty application but found out that when I get to a certain number of icons (I tried with an app and with a web clip) the backup restore is failing.
If I click on the iPad's power button as soon as the screen shuts off when it shouldn't, the restore process finishes normally and the iPad can be used normally and there's no app missing.  If I wait for the timeout (yellow error icon and restore failed message) with the iPad still connected to the MAC and I power on the iPad, Apple Configurator detects the iPad and restarts the restore cycle but always hangs at the same step.
The only way to get past this is to stand next to the iPad when in restore mode and press the power on button for 2 seconds at the step where you should see the Apple logo and the progress bar.  This is really annoying and I was hoping for a fix in Apple Configurator v1.2.1...
Please tell me if you find a workaround or a fix...
