ICal Blues

I need to print a specific calendar as a List from 8/1/08 - 11/30/08 because it is imperative that the note fields for each event print. I have done this countless times in the past without a problem. Now, after the latest updates, it seems that iCal hangs when it gets to the *formatting layout* part and I am tired of forcing it to quit.
Is there any way at all to get around this glitch so that I can print these events?
Entourage doesn't print more than multiple categories at a time or the notes of any events if you print in List View, so that is out of the question. The only reason I use iCal to begin with is to be able to print these notes, as it is the most efficient way to accomplish what I need to do -- and now it seems to be problematic.
Any thoughts out there would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to export this particular calendar/e-mail it to myself and dig the Mini out of the closet just to be able to print 4 months' worth of notes!
Does anyone use Google Calendar and does it allow printing of list view with notes?

Made a correction to Entourage only being able to print one category at a time. Set up a Google calendar for grins and it doesn't do what I need ;-[
Still no thoughts -- other than waiting on Apple to fix these issues with iCal?

  • Color managed apps have poor blue performance

Hi. I'm having trouble with calibrated displays on multiple macs. In all cases saturated blues look very purple. The easiest way to see it is by looking at the highlight in the system menu which should be blue and instead is purple. Other ways to see it include opening a color bar graphic in both Safari and firefox. One will be blue and the other purple.
    Here's the setup:
Both macs are running Snow leopard 10.6.2
both macs were upgraded in place from leopard
colorimeter used is i1 display 2 with iMatch 3.6.3, white point was set to native and gamma to 2.2, used the notebook and LCD modes.
one machine is a 24" iMac
one is a 15" MBP with an external up LCD (both displays have the problem)
I have verified that the contrast setting in the system preferences is set to normal.
I'd appreciate any guidance. I've heard of others with similar sounding problems, but never an answer. I'm trying to decide I'd I should send the calibrator back.
    Thanks!

I purchased a Spyder2Express a couple years ago to calibrate my MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.x. When I was running OS 10.5.x up through 10.6.2, Spyder turned the blue color bars in iCal to purple at all times (even though the blue text in iCal stayed blue). I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.3. After the upgrade, iCal blue colors looked as though they should be. Then I ran Spyder2Express, and now the blue color bars in iCal are back to purple at all times. I saw a similar problem posted here a year and a half ago:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1780020
I guess not much has changed. Considering the variety of colorimeters getting an unwanted blue-purple translations, I assume it has to do with Apple and not the calibrators.

  • How do I get rid of the blue box on my iCal on my iMac?

When I add an event in iCal, using my iMac, it is highlighted within a blue box on my iMac.  When I add an event using my iPhone or iPad the blue box does not show up on my iMac. How do i get rid of the blue box on my iMac?

To take a screen shot on your mac: http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#capturescreen
And then when you reply to a post you click the camera button at the top of the post window to attach an image.
From your description it sounds like you are adding an event to iCal and it is syncing (which is what its supposed to do).  If you see something in iCal on the Mac and you don't want it there, click on it once and then go to Edit > Delete.
If you still can't delete that event:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.

  • Blue TODAY banner on monthly iCal calendar doesn't indicate current date

Why doesn't the blue TODAY banner on monthly iCal calendar on iPad indicate current day?  (I.e., today is Wednesday Feb 8 but the blue TODAY banner is still on Tues Feb 7) .  I'm syncing to my other devices with iCloud. This problem only happens on the iPad.

Duh... My contrast settings were messed up and I couldn't see that today's date was highlighted.

  • Out of the blue flickering and iCal won't quit

We bought our iMac 20" last January 2008 and it has worked perfectly. I have installed all updates. After the last update (and I really don't know if it is just coincidence...) iCal won't quit unless it is forced. All data is gone. It might also have something to do with the last time I synced my iPod...?
More troubling, the screen has started flickering... almost shutting down at points. However, it is not on a regular basis and seemingly out of the blue...?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Wilrez,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Regarding the iCal issue, if you used Software Update for installing OS X 10.5.7, you may want to try reinstalling the update using the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update.
Let us know what happens with both problems after the reinstallation.

  • Published iCal only uses one color - blue?

    Hello.
I have calendar groups in my iCal which I have as two separate colors I'd like to publish this calendar group to my .Mac account and see both colors. However I only see the same color - blue - for both calendars in the group.
Is there a way to see the same colors for calenders as one does in the iCal app itself? And can we see multiple colors in the same published calender?
    Thanks!

    no and no... unfortunately.
you may want to send feedback on this, i did! : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html

  • My Ical is alternating colours (purple and blue) every time I attempt to add an event. What is wrong with my ical?

My macbook pro is about 2 years old. Earlier today my ical started changing colors on it's own. I had not changed any setting or preferences.
Could someone please tell me why this is happening?
I am not bothered by it but I'm worried something is wrong with my mac book I have never had any problems with it before.
    Please help !

    Hi,
From the iCal menu > Preferences > General tab and set the Default Calendar to "Last selected calendar".
    best wishes

  • Why does my ical entries change to light blue?

It started a few days ago. When i change the color, it always changes back to light blue, instantly.

What are these other apps? Because for some applications, landscape view is not possible, like calender.

  • ICal wierdness out of the blue

I rely on iCal, so this is a bit wierd... the application seems to work fine in other accounts, but on my account it has just started being really wierd. First I noticed some trouble creating a recurring event. When I chose "Custom" for the repeat, the interface didn't change to let me choose days. Then I noticed that all my to-dos were gone. Then I noticed that trying to open or close the to-do or event pane would freeze the app. I also seem unable to delete recurring events, and do backups. (OSX 10.4.10)

I can't believe it but I solved my problem with the iCal not showing anything at all. I have tried numerous times to fix iCal with all the posts in the forums for iCal and nothing worked.
Finally I went into the preferences and behold, in the advanced area of the iCal preferences, there is a check box saying "Hide To Do items with due dates outside of calendar view".
I checked it and then restarted iCal and boom! it worked!!! I am sure this is a bug but I can live with that inconvenience!
I hope this is useful to some of you out there since this was killing me for a while now (about 2 months) !!! Thanks everyone for the posts though. a lot of good info I learned.

  • I create a birthday calendar in iCal and then click on it in iphoto at the begining of the calendar project each year.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project?

I created a birthday calendar to use in iphoto for calendar.  When a new calendar project is started each year, I click on it in.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar this year.  The photo calendar is almost complete.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project? I would prefer not to start over.

    Hi,
If you first select the calendar on the left, so that its background is highlighted blue/grey, when you make a new events they should be added to that calendar.

  • ICal: only one colour in year view

Hi, my issue is that my different calendars (Red- college, green-work, blue-holidays), all appear as yellow when viewing iCal as year view. When viewing the calendar as weekly and monthly I can see which calendar is which, but in year view I can't. This means that I see a huge block of yellow and can't differentiate days I'm in class from days I'm on placement, or days I have exams from days I am on holidays.
    Please help!!

Fufidus, I have the same gripe and I know what you're talking about.
I have about four different calendars (Work, Family, national holidays and a shared calendar 'Leave schedule').  Each has its own colour, and I would expect that when I look at my various events (some stretched out over weeks and months) I should be able to see that colour representing the respective category in the year view.  This would make sense and allow me to differentiate between the different categories over the year planner view and therefore have a good overview for the year.   This is important for me as I need to plan my schedule between work and family at least 6 months in advance and likewise with my colleague.
What actually happens instead, is that all those different calendar categories all show as one colour, being yellow highlights, which doesn't help at all.  It's confusing, especially if I'm trying to collaborate with my colleague or show the year view to my wife.  We cannot distinguish any of the events on the year view unless you click on that day.  The four categories just merge as one colour on the year view.  Spots where two events overlap become red.
A picture is a thousand words so here is a snapshot.  Tell me if this would make any sense to you....
If you switch back to month view, then the category colours appear as they should.
I hope the iCal developers could take note of this issue if they have not already done so and perhaps improve on this in the next update.  I would be most grateful.  I don't really fancy having a third party app as I'd like to keep things simple and keep to one OS X app that can sync between devices.

  • ICal year view colors

Is there a way to change the color of the calendar events when you are viewing the calendar in the Year View?
My wife and I both share each other's calendars. Her color is blue and mine is orange in the daily/weekly/monthly views it shows up with the corresponding colors. Yet, when I click on the year view I get this:
I can understand the days where we both have events listed being a different color, but it should at least display blue for the days that have events for her calendar and orange for mine but that's not the case. Any way to fix this? Or can someone explain to me why it shows these colors instead?

Anyone got any latest news update of this?
It makes absolutely no sense to me and makes year view poinless. I can't see multiple events.
I can't believe how awfully regressive iCal is to be honest. It's not the mainstay of what I do but every time I use it I end up saying, "why the **** won't it let me do that?" or "why have they done THAT?"
It's out of character with all the other Mac software that has always been useful and completely intuitive. ICal has been an orphan child for years and this Lion update has just papered over the cracks for me.
How about allowing scrolling from one month to the next? How about running the months of the year into each other, especially  in year view? We don't make a big distinction between 30th June and 1st July in real life so why treat then as a separate page and block them out? It's so frustrating it makes me angry.
I suppose it's like the arguments I used to have with PC users years ago. Yes it does everything, but it's not much fun doing it and fun has always been the Mac way.
Come on Apple, look into this. It's not 3D modelling. It's a bloody calendar!

  • Is it possible to set a default Calendar in iCal?

I use a calender that is served by Kerio. I want to set that as the default, so that when I create a new entry (as in Apple-N) it uses the set calendar, and not the first one in the list in iCal, which is a local file. I cannot delete the local ical files, as they contain loads of data from before we started using Kerio, and the Kerio calendar cannot be shifted to the top of the cal list, so as to be selected as default it seems!
If it is a question of moving all the local data to the server cal file and then deleting the local file(s) so that the desired calendar is at the top of the list, is there a bulk way of doing this? I have years of old data, so doing it item by item is not viable!

  • ICal: Instead of colored dots, can every event's headline be displayed in color accordingly?

Before the upgrade, every events is displayed in colour accordingly, with All-Day-Event highlighted.
After the upgrade, only the "All-day event" is highlighed in clour. But the headline/subject of everything else (from every calendars) is displayed in dark grey with a small colored dots.
For example, It's too difficult to spot my important work meetings (in blue) from the rest of the non-important personal events (in purple).
those blue dots looks very close to purple dots. This really is making my calendar looking confusing.

Mavericks applies color to events only in day and week views. Before events in month view had a color corresponding to the specific calendar it was in (appointments, school, etc). Only all-day events now are highlighted in color. This is a step backward. I hope that Apple updates iCal to bring back the highlighting of all calendar events in all views.

  • MacBook Pro "15 2011 model has started crashing. Symptoms: screen distortion/images fragmenting/blue screening. Help!

    Hi everyone!
I currently own a Macbook Pro '15, 4gb that was purchased in early 2011 running Snow Leopard (my version is currently 10.6.8). For under the past 3 year it has been heavily reliable, and I have not ran in to any software, or hardware issues. However, over the past 3 or so months I have been having issues.
During May 2014 through to present date I have started experiencing screen glitches. It first began with image distortion, causing the whole system to crash, which would mean I would have to turn it off and reboot the system. Later this turned into a series of screen blurring (consisting of images fragmenting all over the place) and then finally followed with 2 weeks of blue screening on start up, meaning that I could not get into my log user unless I entered safe mode. I should also mention that I have no third party issues.
After doing some considerable research on apple forums I did what had to be done. In the last two weeks I have wiped my MacBook Pro, re-installed the OS and considered that it was now a process of elimination. For the first week the software seemed to been running smoothly, I wasn't having any failings until I hit the second week – of course, the glitches began all over again and I faced two in the space of a half hour (first my screen split into two during listening to music on spotify with no other applications open in the background, shortly after rebooting I faced a much worse case of my Mac completely dark blue screening with white lines.)
Now, once again, it only works 'well' on safe mode. I did a check in both modes. Left my computer idle with no programmes running for a half hour and the same thing happened with the screen, went black for a moment, moved the mouse and I received a fragmented screen again. I'm completely fed up at this point, considering I have the bare minimal amount on my Mac, I honestly can't fathom how it's come to this.
Now considering my model is not even three years old at this stage you can fully understand my frustration since I heavily rely on my laptop for educational purposes, which is making it very difficult to be able to concentrate on any of my studies. If anything, it is causing a great deal of stress. With my product being out of warranty I don't have an obscene amount of money to pay for a new one. When I already paid roughly £1,699 for the product in the first place.
The worst thing is, I've even done a EtreCheck, this was yesterday (the most recent/last time it was in use)

I've had a look to book an appointment at the Genius Bar, but would you believe it, there are no available appointments at my local store! I really would appreciate if anyone could offer any assistance in how to lodge a formal complaint? My days rely on being able to do my work, so whilst I have tried to book a reservation I am at a loss, and pretty much screwed having a Mac that I clearly cannot use functionally.
If anyone can provide any help, I'd be absolutely most grateful!

I have done what you suggested. However, I have to disagree with you about the 'third party' comment. Although those minor issues were on there which I picked up on shortly afterwards, they were easily removed. It hasn't CHANGED the symptoms I described about my mac. Both items are removed (growl only tends to make your mac 'lag' and that's not the problem I'm having)
I am still having all the above issues, regardless of my mac being fully minus third party items. This mac hasn't had any heavy use, or had many applications installed on it ect, there is really no reason for it to be failing. I'd understand if it was old, but it's literally only just passed being 3 years old.
If you can provide any more help that would be appreciated, thank you!
