Ical broken in 10.5.5?

I downloaded the latest os release, and now ical appears to be broken. Is the download, or something else that I have done wrong? I opens up, but I can't add an appt or see any calendars. Also, the month in the lower left is January, 2001. Is it just me?

I have the same issue. It started yesterday. Is there a solution to the problem that doesn't involve reinstalling Leopard?

  • Ical broken help?

ical will open with month calendar populated but can't click on any item and can't move between weekly, daily or monthly view. After opening the only active function is quit ical. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the discussions, tworivers.
Is this new behaviour? If so, have you added or changed anything recently? (Applications, settings, fonts ...)
Meanwhile, try dragging com.apple.iCal.plist from the Library/Preferences folder in your Home directory to the Desktop and see does that help.

  • ICal 'broken' (rebel without a cause...)

    All,
I've got some problems with iCal: it just won't listen. 3 weeks ago I updated my MacBook (intel, C2D) to Leopard, no problems so far. However, since about a week something's wrong. I'm not talking about syncing to PDA's or online-agenda's. iCal's 'just' a little frustrated - me too.
    Problems:
o After opening iCal, I can only perform one action (such as removal of an activity). Subsequent actions aren't responded to.
o I cannot quit iCal regularly all too often - need to force stop.
o Grid on the bottom left goes nuts; one time it's fully visible, other times only parts (see screenshot below).
o Other parts of the interface (agendas, tasks) aren't shown (frames are displayed, but without content).
o I cannot add activities. I can keep trying - it just won't.
o But... When I quit and reopen, there are as much 'new activity'-s as I clicked my mouse. Again, these cannot be adjusted or removed.
o Menu-item ('export' for instance) appears and disappears within half a second. I cannot stop or influence this.
o Strangely enough, when I add another account, NONE of the above occurs when iCal is used in this account.
    Screenshot: [http://www.deburen.cc/images/Afbeelding%202.png]
I've been trying to solve it:
o Deleted preferences (about 10 times already...)
o Deleted iCal and re-installed from optional installs (3 times...)
    o Checked for updates
o Verified the volume and HD with Onyx & OS X.
    o Deleted Cache(s) (with Maintenance)
In sum: my iCal isn't synced to any other application, the problem appears not to be related to recently installed software or utilites, I am the only user of the system, there aren't any problems with other applications and, strange enough, when adding another account I can effortlessly use iCal the regular way in that account.
I already had a look in other topics, but couldn't recognize my problem.
Any bright minds got a solution? I'd be really grateful!
    Best regards,
    Pim

    Update:
I just figured out that it cant be my display switch module because when i close the lid to my notebook, the external monitor shuts off and the computer goes into standby mode. I now think this might be an issue with the ribbon cable. Is there anything else which might be  causing this problem which I am overlooking?

  • Autosave to iCal broken

This has been happening since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I think.
Previously, I could hover the pointer over a date in a Mail.app message, and choose to create a reminder in iCal. Now what happens when I do that varies, but never does the reminder get created.
Most commonly, I get to see the dialog that displays what's about to be created, but for less than a second. Then it disappears. No reminder is created.
Most recently, I tried the same procedure, and this dialog (with greyed buttons "Add to Calendar" and "Details") won't go away. It has been on my desktop for days.
Help! Is there a plist file I can trash to fix this? Thanks.

Cardiac Medicine - did you ultimately receive a resolution to the above?  I have contacted and worked with Apple Support on 6 occassions over the last two days - still to no avail.

  • ICal broken, clean install still broken.

hello, spent the last 17 hours in pain trying to get my iCal to work again. I completely nuked and repaved my drive and did a clean leopard install with all the upgrades to bring me back to 10.5.2. When I try and load my previously backed up calendars into this fresh iCal they appear as normal and I can edit them and move things around. As soon as I quit iCal and restart it everything disappears and I'm back to square 1. I have years of data in my calendars that I meticulously strive to save. I back up all the time. This is a major bummer.
I turned off all syncing when I blitzed the OS.
    I'm tired and lost.
    ideas?

    Ferd,
    Thanks again. Sadly same problem.
I went through your steps. I logged out instead of restarting, but other than that I followed it through.
The calendars restore nicely. They look good and everything is there. However, try and change something, move something or add something and it works. That is, until you quit iCal and then it all resets back to exactly how it was.
Yes I did a complete clean install.
At then end of it after reloading all my major software I fired up iCal and basically did the same procedure you wrote. When I had no joy with that. I created another new admin user account. Then fired up Migration Asst. and pointed it at my external firewire drive where the clone of my previous mongrel install of Leopard was living. After doing the migration I had my "old" admin user in addition to my clean install admin user. I deleted the temporary admin user. So now, on this machine, I have a new admin and the old one. iCal works in neither.
I'm clueless too. Plaxo was working fine. I gave up on Spanning Sync after a week of trial. Had hope for BusySync since it seemed to work well with Google. After I started having a serious iCal event duplication problems I stopped using and tried to delete all that "extra" software. To no avail. Still stuck.
Thanks again for all your time and effort.
I got real used to iCal, and am really feeling the pain of not having it. Kind of annoyed.
    peace,
    -j.

  • ICal recurring events function broken

    Hi folks,
I use my Mac for business, so having iCal broken is a serious problem. I hope someone can help.
The problem has crept up on me, so I can't pinpoint when I started to have issues. It seems to be progressive in some way.
I've tried to delete the program and also the support files I find in Library, and reinstall, but the new install managed to find the old info, somehow.
I'm on OS 10.6.8. I've got reasons to stick with it and don't want to upgrade right now. I'm running iCal 4.0.4. I've done a Software Update. I also sync an iPod running iOS 5.1.1 (also up to date for the device).
My problem is that I have been having items drop out of iCal, randomly so I have a hard time seeing any pattern to the problem. The items have seemed mostly to do with recurring events, so let's assume that's been consistent. In trying to understand the problem, I've deleted iCal and its Library files. I'm currently having some kind of problem where the System Disk is being rejected (won't mount), so I can't reload iCal that way, though I believe I did do that some time back trying to fix the problem. So I have re-installed iCal via thumb drive off a second IMac running OS10.6.8. It "works" seemingly fine, but now the recurring events function is completely broken. I've tried to set up several recurring events to test it, recurring daily; neither one has made it past the first instance (nothing can be made to "recur").
Any insights at all? Thanks very much,
    Eric

I think the problem lies in icalx.com. It doesn't seem the server there gets a lot of real administrative attention. I'm not complaining at all! He's nice enough to offer this free to almost 100,000 calendars. But--it does make the recurring events problem a bit annoying.
I switched over to sharing my calendars via chandlerproject.org. You can share your calendars via webdav just like icalx and you can play around with some of the CalDAV features for free. (I'm not sure how long it will be free--it seems like an awfully nice service for no money!)

  • Syncing Broken from iPhone/MobileMe over to iCal - but not in reverse

I've tried all the solutions noted in dozens of Discussion topics. I've called Apple Support several times in the past. All the fixes were temporary, not permanent. Several of my friends and I are looking for a permanent fix to the broken sync issues described below:
Changes and additions made in the iPhone calendar syncs OK up to the MobileMe cloud ... then stops there. These items never sync down from the MobileMe cloud to iCal. This problem, and similar ones, have persisted for months now.
Sadly, changes made in iCal always sync OK in the reverse order - up through the MobileMe cloud and on to iPhone - been inserting duplicate events added in iPhone over in iCal, adding "iCal" to the Event Titles. The results are that I have duplicates in iPhone now (one with the "iCal" indicator in the title, one without it).
Finally, Conflict Resolver is problematic and annoying. If I edit an event in iPhone, it will sync OK up to MobileMe. But then I get repeated Conflict Resolver messages indicating conflicts b/t iCal and either or both iPh and MM. If I choose the info in MobileMe or iPhone to edit the info in iCal, the conflict just keeps repeating - for example, I just for the 10th time clicked the Review Now button, and went through the process, for the same "1" event - oops now the 11th time. But if I choose the info in iCal to edit the info in MobileMe or iPhone, it edits OK. But it still does not affect the problems noted above.
My iPhone 4 is my 4th iPhone ... I've owned all the versions. These syncing issues have persisted. What good is the iPhone out on the road as a business tool if I add calendar events as appointments are made, but then when I return to my desk these items will not sync back up through MobileMe to iCal?

I'm having a similar problem. But in my case, nothing is syncing either way with my iPhone 3G. iCal is syncing just fine between MobileMe cloud and our computers as well as my husband's iPod touch. Just not with my iPhone 3G since loading iOS4. I just downloaded the iOS4 update -- hoping to fix multiple problems with the new OS, including slow as molasses performance -- but iCal still won't sync in either direction.
Apple Customer Service recommended doing a iCal sync through iTunes. Trouble with that is that it's created duplicates of (almost) everything: "All on my iPhone" and "All [email protected]". Ugh, hate that, but at least I can turn off the "All on my iPhone" now.
Anyone have any ideas re: how to fix the iPhone to MobileMe cloud sync? Or do I have to wait (and hope) for the next iOS4 update?
Sigh. Apple continues to disappoint this 20-yr+ Mac user!

  • ICal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links

iCal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links and are not functioning. I went to http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html and midway down on the right side is a link to install a ical reminder. That link does not work with my laptop.
It sends me this link "webcal://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics" but I immediately get an email message stating:
    Error subscribing to the calendar
No calendar was found on http://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics. Please check the URL.
Likewise, the same thing happens for my notebook. Is there another URL or does anyone have connections at apple to reinstate this dead link.

    Hope this helpful.

  • ICal holidays missing - Find Shared Calendars menu item broken

In iCal, Calendar menu, Find Shared Calendars...
This menu item takes you to a broken (as of today) link:
    http://www.apple.com/ical/library/

When clicking "Find Shared Calendars...," Leopard OS system sends IP packets to nwk-www.apple.com, 17.149.160.10.
    ・Source IP Address (private): 192.168.1.2
・Destination IP Address: 17.149.160.10 at the beginning of the session for "Find Shared Calendars..." procedure.
Leopard 10.5.1 sends a DNS query to connect 128.241.220.87 that is NTT America. Communications between Leopard and NTT America go for a while. So is Omniture's server followed. Some unique user's information is transmitted on all the servers communication.
Leopard queries DNS server (208.67.2222.222 which I set for Leopard) for metrics.apple.com (this seems to be a server for iTunes Store). What the deuce Leopard needs to call iTunes Store at the phase of finding iCal sharing calendar?
Besides, I have not been purchased any products from iTunes Store for years.
Actually, NTT America has been attempting odd access behaviors to my nodes for the recent few years before the business with Apple started whenever the hacker (I have been tracking him for three years.) is right behind me.
Now NTT America 128.241.220.87 replies to Leopard with the ACK (TCP Acknowledgement flag) bit. Next, nwk-www.apple.com (17.149.160.10) also sends Leopard a ACK bit simultaneously. Leopard answers it with the ACK. Now the DNS server replies the ten host addresses to the query of metrics.apple.com: appleglobal.112.2o7.net, 66.151.152.125, 66.151.152.126, 66.151.152.143, 128.241.21.13, 128.241.21.14, 128.241.21.15, 128.241.21.146, 128.241.21.149 and 128.241.21.163.
66.151.152.xxx = Omniture, Inc that provides web analytics solutions for internet channel monitoring. They operates the 2o7.net domains. For more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omniture
    128.241.21.xxx = NTT America, Inc. (http://www.nttamerica.com/products/index.php)
At the last session, Leopard queries "wsidecar.apple.com," but strangely the DNS server answer the canonical address which is "wsidecar.apple.com.akadns.net" with its address 17.149.160.15 but not DNS registered address 17.112.152.39.
17.149.160.15 (Apple's server but not 17.149.160.10) sends Leopard a FIN/ACK bit which means the TCP connection is closed by the server ONE-SIDEDLY despite Leopard answers to 17.149.160.15 with the acknowledgement to get ready for the US calendar sync data download start.
    Here is a nslookup wsidecar.apple.com:
    $ nslookup
    wsidecar.apple.com
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    wsidecar.apple.com canonical name = wsidecar.apple.com.akadns.net.
    Name: wsidecar.apple.com.akadns.net
    Address: 17.112.152.39
CONCLUSION: There are a few inconsistencies on TCP/IP communications.
My computer: Power Mac G5 Dual 2.7 GHz/5GB DDR SDRAM
OS: Mac OS X 10.5.1 and Mac OS X 10.4.11 for dual boot.

  • To Brian Z: Your new iCal calendars announcement link is broken!

I couldn't find a way to IM/PM you on this system, so I thought I'd let you know that the link to the new iCal calendars in your announcement (http://discussions.apple.com/ann.jspa?annID=131) is broken (takes us to a generic apple page).
    Steve

    typehead,
Just use iCal>File>Export...for each one of your calendars on the G4, and then on the MBP use iCal>File>Import...for those .ics files.
    ;~)

  • What happened to list view in iCal? Sync broken?

Since turning on iCloud I can't find list view in iCal. Also, repeated sync with iTunes did not move new events from Mac iCal to iPhone.

The only way I have found to deal with the calendar is to click the search icon in the corner of the calendar window and you get a list view of each day. It's better than nothing

  • ICal bug  -- leap year has broken reoccuring events

Since last week , when there were 29 days in February instead of 28,  events in iCal which are re-occuring  (a meeting which occurs every month on the second Monday for example) is simply wrong.
It is clear that this is an artifact of "Leap Year." The error compounds.
In March in was off by one day -- scheduled on Tuesday instead of Monday. In April the error compounds... now scheduled on Friday in April.
Events which were scheduled by data "appear" to be correct, but now I don't know that I can even trust them.
This problem propigates through iCloud and infects my iPhone and iPads as well.
    iMac 10.7.3
    iPhone 5.1
    iPad 5.1
    Mac mini 10.6.8
It turns out this Bug dates back to 2008!!!!!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6309125#6309125

    No. not really.
I spent some time on the phone with Apple support and basically discovered that if I looked at the reoccurring event back in February (the previous month), it showed up correctly as an event being repeated as, in my case, "Custom, Every Month on the first Monday." However, then comparing that entry to the incorrect March entry, I noted the March entry was showing up as repeat "Every Month." (Which translated into every 30 or 31 days, looking at subsequent events.)
Simply changing the bad March event back to the Custom "Every Month on the First Monday," and then applying it to the forward "worked around" the issue.
We never did come up with any idea what caused the change. (i.e. the support person could find no references to any kind of similar problem.)
I was told to go to "www.apple.com/feedback" and to select "iCal" from the list of "OS C Apps" near the bottom of the page, and report the problem.

  • ICal Bug: "Show in Mail" link is broken

When creating a new calendar item from within mail (Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)) (Mail Version 8.1 (1993)) the "Show in Maill..." link opens the incorrect email. In fact, every "Show in Mail..." link from every calendar event points to the exact same email. Using right-click "Copy Link",  EVERY calendar event with a "Show in Mail..." link has the same link: message:%[email protected]%3E
I have since deleted that email and now all the links point to a blank email: a window opens with the same menu title as the original email, but the window is entirely empty.
The problem is NOT with Mail. It is with iCal. This is because even calendar events created months before that email now have the same link.

Same problem. It does not always open the same incorrect email. I haven't figured out the pattern. It seems to find one of the most recent emails that should be linked to a DIFFERENT calendar event.
I only notice it when trying to click the "Show in mail" link.
This feature is very valuable when it works. It used to be reliable on my MacBook Pro, but on iOS it would often transfer me to an email box but not to the specific email, which was useless.
Now it seems to work on iOS, but not on my Mac. I think the problem began with my Yosemite upgrade, but not sure.
This is a problem for me because I love creating events from emails.

  • How do I remove data from my broken iPhone 3GS from iTunes, iCal, contacts?

    Help .....
I recently fried my iPhone 3GS and the data used to be synced using iTunes. I have iPad and iMac, which data are synced using iCloud. The data in iMac are duplicated by the iPhone and iPad. Can any one guide me how to remove the iPhone data from iTunes, iCal and address book please. Thanks

Turning your email off in settings doesn't remove the email from your account.  You have to delete it from your device or from icloud.com, then empty the trash to remove it from your account.  Same thing with contacts.
