Ical bug - events

I'm experiencing a situation with my Google calendar when creating an event with attendees using iCal for desktop.  After creating the event, occasionally it doesn't allow me to send the event if there are attendees or in some cases, after I've edited the event, it doesn't allow the update to happen.  I press the update button but it doesn't do anything.  Closing and restarting iCal is the only thing that works.

Hello vmepani
maybe I can suggest to you a way to circumvent the problem.
Why are you keeping a local Calendar copy under "my Mac"?
I do have my calendar shared through iCloud between my Mac Mountain Lion, the iPhone and the iPad (both alread IOS7) but don't need to keep any local copy of it in neither device. Anyway I'm able to see the calendar on each device even if I'm offline.
That's way I never had the problem you mentioned.
Not sure if this would work for you as well.
cheers

  • ICal duplicating events

My ipod touch iCal duplicates events.  Even after I've deleted them they come back.  I sometimes have six or seven of the same event in a day.  I'm just about to give up and stop using it and try another app.  This seems to be an old problem.  I've found instances on here dating back to 2009.  Haven't they fixed it yet?? Any ideas?

    Hi,
Are the events in the same calendar or different ones? You can check this by showing and hiding calendars.

  • Ical - deleted events prevent from syncing with missing sync

When I try to sync ical with my windows mobile 5.0 running Motorola Q via Missing Sync, I always encounter an error message that one of my ical-events prevents Missing Sync from an error-free sync.
This message comes up when I start Missing Sync: "iCal is reporting synchronization errors. One or more calendar events may not have synchronized properly from iCal. Errors may prevent this application from completing a successful synchronization."
The Missing Sync Protocoll rerfers to an event which I did already delete. So here's the question: how do I really get rid of a ical event which I have already deleted?

Same here. After the update to 10.5 I have succesfully done one sync between my Treo and iCal using MissingSync. Now iCal gives an error, see below. What is the workaround? Downgrading to 10.4.x? Or get an iCal 2 somewhere and run that?
I really want to get my ToDo and Calendar data from my Treo before I go from my Treo 650 to an iPhone. Any workaround is welcome.

  • Syncing iCal reccuring events created before DST

I have a problem with my iCal reccuring events created before the transition to Daylight Saving Time. On my iPod nano they appears to stay as if they were still before DST shift (in non-DST time zone). For instance, if I have a weekly meeting at friday 5:00 PM, I expect it to be 5:00 PM independently of whether I'm in a DST-shifted time or not. On my iCal everything seems to be fine: the meeting is still 5:00 PM, but my iPod nano thinks that the reccuring meeting should be DST-independent (6:00 PM).
Temp workaround: Settings > Date & Time > Set Time Zone > Set a time zone without DST. However, after syncing, the timezone will be resetted to DST anyway.
Hope this issue will be fixed in future iPod software releases.

When I connect my BB via USB, Desktop Manager indicates that one of the selected calendars is read-only and can only be synchronized from my computer to my device. How do I correct this?

  • Ical bug: updates to outlook events with iCloud sync do not work

I have a bug that needs to be submitted to Apple Developers. I am not sure that this is the correct forum, but here goes.
I have a calendar that syncs from my Mac to iCloud. If I get a calendar invite from someone using outlook, everything works fine. I accept the invite and it is added to ical (6) and syncs with the iCloud calendar.
Now if I get an update to the invite - especially a change of time, the local version on my mac updates to the changed event. Up to now everything is fine, but as soon as iCal syncs with iCloud, the iCloud server thinks that I am trying to change an event that someone else is the organiser of. It then disallows the update. This in turn pops an error up on my mac - 'The server responded: “403” to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation'.
I have looked for workarounds/fixes but believe that none exist and that this is a core bug with iCal/iCloud sync and the way it tries to prevent updates to meetings organised by another party.

  • ICal bug  -- leap year has broken reoccuring events

Since last week , when there were 29 days in February instead of 28,  events in iCal which are re-occuring  (a meeting which occurs every month on the second Monday for example) is simply wrong.
It is clear that this is an artifact of "Leap Year." The error compounds.
In March in was off by one day -- scheduled on Tuesday instead of Monday. In April the error compounds... now scheduled on Friday in April.
Events which were scheduled by data "appear" to be correct, but now I don't know that I can even trust them.
This problem propigates through iCloud and infects my iPhone and iPads as well.
    iMac 10.7.3
    iPhone 5.1
    iPad 5.1
    Mac mini 10.6.8
It turns out this Bug dates back to 2008!!!!!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6309125#6309125

    No. not really.
I spent some time on the phone with Apple support and basically discovered that if I looked at the reoccurring event back in February (the previous month), it showed up correctly as an event being repeated as, in my case, "Custom, Every Month on the first Monday." However, then comparing that entry to the incorrect March entry, I noted the March entry was showing up as repeat "Every Month." (Which translated into every 30 or 31 days, looking at subsequent events.)
Simply changing the bad March event back to the Custom "Every Month on the First Monday," and then applying it to the forward "worked around" the issue.
We never did come up with any idea what caused the change. (i.e. the support person could find no references to any kind of similar problem.)
I was told to go to "www.apple.com/feedback" and to select "iCal" from the list of "OS C Apps" near the bottom of the page, and report the problem.

  • ICal bug with month view

I primarily use week view on iCal, but sometimes i switch to month view for a larger perspective. Often, i use month view to check for any leftover events from the previous month in case i forgot to delete one or two.
I just found a bug concerning this. If i click on "month" today, it'll take me to the month view for june 2011, and from there i can navigate forwards or backwards. However, may 2011 seems to have a bug. If i click on < from june, it does nothing; if i click again, it takes me to april 2011. Similarly, if i click on > from april it does nothing and if i click again it takes me to june.
It doesn't end there. The june/may thing happens only when the selected day (the one shaded light grey on the month and week views and bright blue on the little month tab on the left) is after 04 june. If a day from the first week of june (i have my weeks start on sunday) is selected, the < button does take me to may, but several events which i deleted a long time ago are showing up.
Now, i have an event set for today (04 june). Since the first four days of june are in the same week as the last three of may, the month view for may shows these four days, as any normal calendar app would.
If i use the month tab to the left to navigate, i can access may 2011 by selecting any day on that month. However, iCal's behaviour depends on which day was selected previously. If the previous day was in april 2011 or earlier, iCal will show the month of may completely empty, which is great because i have no leftover appointments from may; however, the box for 04 june is also empty, which it shouldn't be. If the previous day was in june 2011, it'll show may with a repeating event on every sunday except the first, which is completely absurd, since i have deleted this event (and why isn't it showing on the first sunday in may?); the box for 04 june, however, will correctly show the event i have set for this day. If the previous day was in july 2011 or later, it'll show may with the repeating event on all sundays (including the first one) and it won't show anything on the box for 04 june.
Obviously, there is a bug with may 2011.
In case it helps, i do have a repeating event set to all sundays until the end of existence, but i have deleted all the entries from may and previously, since they have obviously already happened. Also, i had many other repeating events set to happen on different weekdays; these are to repeat themselves weekly until about halfway through june, and they started on april or may (can't remember right now). Like the sunday one, i have deleted all the entries from may because they have already taken place. Strangely (and thankfully), none of these appear when i visit may from june or later, as does the sunday event.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or am i forever stuck with week view, which has so far proven to be bug-free?
(I did a search on Google and another on the Apple forums for this issue but could find nothing, so i decided to ask the question myself. I apologise if somebody has already asked this question and i just couldn't find it.)

    Greetings,
I have a vague recollection of someone else with this issue but haven't experienced it myself nor encountered it recently.
    Troubleshooting:
1.) First make an iCal backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966.
2.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • 24h time entry in iCal bug

Being from Europe, all my clocks are in the 24h format, including all of my Macs and my iPhone. iCal in Leopard shows the 24h clock, but I noticed that when I want to enter a time for an event, it still shows AM/PM, which is irrelevant in the 24h system. Moreover, if I enter 12, it will show 14; all entrances are 2 higher than what I type in. Depending on whether it is AM or PM it makes its own time. I believe this is a bug but I don't know how to approach Apple. Can anybody confirm this behavior?
    Jan

I have the same troubles. I can't enter the start/end times via the keyboard. I drag the event to the correct hour and then can enter the minutes. If I try to enter the time via the keyboard, I can't directly enter the correct hour. For example, if I enter "12" for hours, the result is "24." If I enter "13" for hours, the result is "03."
This problem has manifested with Leopard. All was OK with Tiger. I miss the old column on the right of the main window that had the details of whatever was selected in the main window. Now, we have to double-click on the event in the main window to get another window which I then have to click on "edit." Too much clicking IMO.

  • DST iCal bug (at least for Sony Ericsson mobiles)

The recent Daylight Savings changes caused a baffling bug to show itself. I keep my phone's calendar (Sony Ericsson K610i) synchronised with my iCal calendar. This includes my timetable for the academic term, with about 13 weekly recurring events.
As the term starts in September, they straddle the change in daylight savings, so when the change occurred, all these recurring events appeared an hour earlier on my phone than in iCal.
I thought this was a time zone issue, but no amount of fiddling with time zone and DST settings on the phone resolved this. Eventually, I realised they were recurring, and moved the first occurrence of each event after the DST change in iCal, selecting "Update All Future Events", then moved them back. Suddenly on synching, they're correct (though only after the DST change — a well-known limitation).
This meets the definition of a bug in my mind, and should be resolved automatically by iCal/iSync. I hope that Apple will do something about this, as I couldn't find any explanation of this at all.

This has always been the case, for all Sony Ericsson phones, and neither Apple nor Sony Ericsson seem willing to fix it through years of different handsets and updated versions of iSync.
Basically, all you have to do when the clocks change, is change the Daylight Savings setting in the phone accordingly, and re-sync.
Everything will then be fine right up until any events after the next clocks change - so you're good for 6 months anyway!
I've also fiddled with all the internal options within the iSync (not accessible through the interface), and nothing works satisfactorily there either. It's possible to disable time zone support completely, but then you have to just change the time on the phone, instead of the Daylight Savings setting, so it's no easier than just re-syncing.

  • ICal bug fix roadmap?

I realize this may be a naive question, but is there any way to know whether/when Apple will update iCal to address some of the major issues it faces?
The two issues that bug me the most are:
Multiple email updates sent to attendees when editing an event: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11034948
    Event editing purgatory: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11418459
These two issues are grave enough for one third party developer to take things into his own hands: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icalreplychecker/ So I doubt that Apple is unaware of them.

    Hello Meat,
If it is a specific issue it might be in an article at www.apple.com/support/.
Apple does have a database for bug tracking which is available to Apple Developers http://developer.apple.com/.
For the general public like you and me there is no "official" listing beyond what is at www.apple.com/support/.
In reviewing the 2 posts your sited they both seem to refer to the same behavior:
If you edit an event in iCal (say edit the title) that has invitees, even if you say "Don't send" in the notification dialogue, follow-up emails are sent to all your invitees.
I tested this issue on 3 different 10.6.3 systems (iMac, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro) by adding an event with an invitee. I sent the original invitation. I then went back and changed the title of the event from "test" to "test1". When prompted to notify the invitees I said "don't notify". They didn't get a notification. I then deleted the events and again said don't notify. Again, none of my invitees received any notification.
Based on the issue and steps above I am unable to reproduce the issue mentioned in these posts. If you follow the steps I used, are follow-up emails still sent in your iCal?
If so I have a few follow-up questions:
Does it happen every single time you edit an event?
Is this a local calendar or one you have hosted on a server (CalDAV or Exchange for example)?
Does it happen when you only have 1 invitee?
Do you happen to have Microsoft Office installed on the computer you are editing these events with?
    Cheers

  • ICal bug subscribing/publishing between Leopard and Tiger?

It seems there is a strange incompatibility between iCal 2.0.5 (Tiger) and iCal 3.0 (Leopard).
I work for a company where 10 employees share their calendars through a private server.
Everyone publishes his/her calendar and is subscribed to all the other calendars within the company. So effectively, everyone sees his own calendar in iCal as read/write and all the other calendars as read- only.
Last week 3 machines were upgraded to Leopard and since then trouble started.
Now, when someone on a Leopard machine creates an event and invites someone who is on a Tiger machine, the Tiger machine can accept the invitation but as soon as it is accepted the event disappears from the Tiger calendar.
As soon as the subscription to the Leopard calendar is removed, the event reappears on the Tiger calendar.
The results are the same when a Tiger user invites a Leopard user on the Tiger machine.
I tried this both with a private server and dotMac.
Does anyone have the same experience and perhaps a solution to it?
Right now the only solution I see is to upgrade all the machines to Leopard.

Although I don't have a solution, I share your pain. I had less problems with iCal even before upgrading to Leopard.
What I can find across forums discussing bugs in iCal for Leopard is that, for the moment, there are a lot of small annoyances regarding alarms, compatibilities and inability to edit items without causing it to crash, amongst other topics.
The frustration level is growing as no sign of help seems to be come from Cupertino until now, the best help is on the forums, by power users themselves.

  • Ical bug/spurious error

iCal gives me an error about having been invited to a meeting using an email address that is not in my address book entry (not true!) when I attempt to import (by clicking on the .ics file attachment in Mail.app) them to my calendar.
    Specifically teh dialog box says:
"There was a problem receiving this event invitation
Someone invited you to an event using an emaila ddress that isn't on your "me" card in Address Book. Find your email address in teh following list and add it to your card in Address Book
    [cancel][clear notification][open address book]
ie. no list of email addresses to find.
However, I've just found that the offending line in the .ics file is nothing to do with email address, it's this one:
    RECURRENCE-ID;TZID="GMT -0000 (Standard) / GMT +0100 (Daylight)":20070313T1 10000
take it out and the event goes in fine, leave it in and you get the error above which is totally spurious.
    please fix, Apple!

    Hi,
This is a problem with receiveing modifications to meeting invites from Outlook/Exchange users. iCal does not understand the format that the timezone info is presented as. This (for some strange reason) results in this error.
I'm working on a bridging utility that fixes this (along with other issues). See http://www.nhoj.co.uk/youreinvited.

  • IOS - iCal problem - Events appear as "all-day" whereas they shouldn't

See below a conversation I had with a service provider.
There is a bug in iOS when dealing with events in UTC times.
    Any solution to this?

    Hi,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We're aware that IOS sometimes
misinterprets the iCal files we provide. It appears that it is reading
the times properly (as seen in the event detail and grid views), but is
mislabeling the events as all-day in the list view. Is this what you're
    seeing?
    Thank you
    Michael
    Exactly.
In the event's details, times are OK, but in the listing, event appears as all-day.
But why only for 6.30 to 7.30? When i change times to 5.30 to 6.30, it shows fine.
It appears to be related to the interpretation of time-zone information. We provide the game times in UTC format and count on your device's calendar program to make the appropriate adjustments for the local time zone. When the provided UTC times span two days (e.g. 11:30pm - 12:30 am, before time zone adjustment), IOS seems to mislabel the event as "all-day".
    Thank you.
    Michael

Does this problem still occur with iOS8?
