ICal Bug: "Show in Mail" link is broken

When creating a new calendar item from within mail (Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)) (Mail Version 8.1 (1993)) the "Show in Maill..." link opens the incorrect email. In fact, every "Show in Mail..." link from every calendar event points to the exact same email. Using right-click "Copy Link",  EVERY calendar event with a "Show in Mail..." link has the same link: message:%[email protected]%3E
I have since deleted that email and now all the links point to a blank email: a window opens with the same menu title as the original email, but the window is entirely empty.
The problem is NOT with Mail. It is with iCal. This is because even calendar events created months before that email now have the same link.

Same problem. It does not always open the same incorrect email. I haven't figured out the pattern. It seems to find one of the most recent emails that should be linked to a DIFFERENT calendar event.
I only notice it when trying to click the "Show in mail" link.
This feature is very valuable when it works. It used to be reliable on my MacBook Pro, but on iOS it would often transfer me to an email box but not to the specific email, which was useless.
Now it seems to work on iOS, but not on my Mac. I think the problem began with my Yosemite upgrade, but not sure.
This is a problem for me because I love creating events from emails.

  • ICal "Show in Mail-" Link broken!

We use extensively the "Show in Mail…" linking capabilities of iCal and since the upgrade to v.10.10.3 all linking has ceased operating. When a link (message:%[email protected]%3E) is initially placed on an event it seems to work for the initial click and then the attached link is lost with only the text – http://Show%20in%20Mail%E2%80%A6/ and this is totally useless. Where are these links recorded and what have they become useless. iCal Version 8.0 (2034.9) & Mail Version 8.2 (2098)

  • "Show in Mail" link in To-Dos - can't get rid of, like a virus

    Hello!
I use To-Dos in iCal intensively.
But strange thing started to happen - all my To-Dos magically get "Show in Mail" link in URL field.
When I enter a new To-Do - everything is fine,
but after a couple of days "Show in Mail" link sticks to it again.
(This link takes you to nowhere).
And I can't get rid of it any other way then just by deleting "infected" To-Do.
    Please help.

I think I've got it fixed....I "reset" my mail program, I deleted my mailbox then re-created it and I'm all set for now.

  • I cannot open "Show in Mail" link in Reminders app

    Hello Everyone,
I can drag emails over to my reminders app no problem but when I click the "Show in Mail" link.  It makes an error sound and doesn't do anything at all.
My default email reader is set to Mail 6.0 in the Mail preferences.
Anyone know what the problem is?

Use Mail to access your emails and not a web browser.
If you have not done this before you can probably get instructions about setting up Apple Mail from your email provider's web site.

  • "Show in mail" link is not clickable in Reminders

When creating a reminder from an email I drag the email to the reminders app from the mail app. I then click the info tab and schedule the reminder for when I want it. It works well and shows up on all my devices when due.
However there is also a clickable link that says specifically "Show in mail". I would expect that link to go back to the original email in the mail app but it does not. It is just not clickable.
Does anybody know what is going on with this?

I had the same problem, but fixed it. I was using Sparrow mail, but reset the default mail client back to make. All worked apart from Show in mail in Reminders and iCal which tried to open Sparrow. Fiddling with the default mail client settings broke this Show in mail altogether (nothing happened if I clicked on it).
This is how to fix the problem.
    1) Go to ~/Library/Preferences
To open this folder in Finder, open Finder and click on Go in the menu. Whilst the list of places to go to is showing, press Alt and Library appears. Click on that.
    2) Find the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file and open it in a text editor
    3) Find the entry for message in it. Mine now looks like this, but your <string> entry is probably wrong and that's what is causing the problem.
    <dict>
    <key>LSHandlerRoleAll</key>
    <string>com.apple.mail</string>
    <key>LSHandlerURLScheme</key>
    <string>message</string>
    </dict>
Make sure that the <string> entry is has com.apple.mail in it.
    4) Restart your machine.

  • E-mail links from iCal event - not working in Yosemite

My workflow has always depended on dragging e-mails from Mail to iCal
This generates link in ical event "Show in mail" - giving me option to find the e-mail with one click from iCal
Since Yosemite install the links go wrong!
I can generate several events from several e-mails and all links point me to the same random e-mail. I haven't yet found clear pattern in this randomness, but it seems to link to the first mail-to-iCal created after sleep/restart, but not always...
    Anybody experiencing similar bug?
Tried "mailbox" > "rebuid" with no result.
    Any more ideas?
I'm on MB Pro 2009 using POP-accounts for mail but the random-link behavior is just same when dragging mails from my icloud account.

Well it's good news i'm not alone in this - frustrating indeed!
Searching for solutions with no result so far.
I've been migrating my user library from one opsys to other since Leopard i guess, so probably i should just do a clean install one day - this MUST help
My workaround after a week of being just unable to manage my incoming information was to use Notes
Dragging emails to notes content still works, and in a way i kind of like it - u can keep a single note with several links to different emails etc. At least for now it seems like a decent substitute. Organizing notes to folders is helpful too, but i guess you can't organize folders in iOS which is really bad.
So - still hoping to move back to my iCal

  • Lauch Calendar and Lauch Mail Link in Sampleportal

    Hi,
I followed the single host example to setup PS6. I was successful to get uwc calendar/mail/addressbook channel to display in the portal myfrontpage. The information shown in the channel is fine and SSO seems working correctly.
However, the Lauch Calendar link and the Launch Mail links didn't work as expected. The calendar link points to http://host/uwc, which led to UWC mail tab; and the mail link points to http://host/?argv=laurel=on which led to Sun ONE Web Server start page. Nevertheless, the Lauch address book link is fine.
What went wrong? Is there any configuration parameters to change the URLs of these links?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can i link to a specific sent email within a cell like the "Show in Mail" drag and drop feature in iCal events?

Trying to make a log of phone and email contacts with customers.  I want to link to the actual email I sent to the customer, like the "show in mail" drag and drop feature in iCal.  Thanks

Links in Numbers can do only two things external to the document:
Open a page on the web
Open and address a NEW email message, ready to compose and send.
    Regards,

  • Ical not showing events from mail

I have upgraded to Lion OS X from my Snow Leopard install.  I have since updated to 10.7.2.  I was going to give Apple's Mail client another try since upgrading to Lion.  It's working fine so far, except that I have a problem with events not being being added to iCal.
In the Mail program I have a time for a webinar that I was added to iCal, when I click on the date link, I'm asked it I want to add to iCal.  I can see a mini view of a calendar in the Mail program with the event added.  (Via Image: SS002.png)
But when I open up iCal to check that it was added.  I don't see anything added for that day.  (Via Image: SS001.png)  Even though the Mail program says that it's there. (Image: SS002.png
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this exact problem today but worked out that in my case I needed to hit Edit and then change the Calendar from my Gmail calendar to iCloud/iCal. As soon as I did that it appeared in iCal instantly.

  • Mailed iCal attachment shows right date but clicking will put appointment on wrong year, month and day. Even names involved are wrong!

Running Mountain Lion on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Suddenly a mailed iCal attachment showing the right date, time and attendees ends up years and months off on iCal with totally wrong attendiees, when clicked in Mail. iCal synced to iCloud. This may be very trivial for some of you but I need help, please.
    Thank you.

I ran into this exact issue after migrating a time machine backup from an older macbook air to a new macbook pro.
The following steps solved my issue:
    1) Backup your current mac
    2) Create a new user account on your mac, and login to that account.
    3) While logged into the new user account, right click the time machine drive and select "get info" > Click the lock icon at the lower right corner so that you can make permission changes. Then Click on the "+" sign and add your new user account to the "Sharing & Permissions" window. Be sure to grant your new user "Read & Write" privileges and when you have done so, click on the down arrow and select "apply to enclosed items" This step will allow you to copy the library folder from your old user account to the new account without hitting any permission issues.
    4) Download "TinkerTool" (An application that allows you to enable the viewing of any and all hidden files and folders on your local or mounted hard drives) and check the box that reads "Show Hidden and System Files" and then click "Relaunch Finder.
    5) Lastly copy the Library folder from the older user account on the time machine backup drive to the new user's library folder. Also be sure to copy your Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and Music folders to the new account as well. Open Mac mail and follow the instructions to import the previous accounts mail messages. Once you receive future ics attachments or calendar invites you should be able to click on them and load the proper date and time within your iCal application.
This worked for me and I hope it works for you.
    Thanks,
    Chris Sampson

  • After upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS6, my Find My Friends app no longer links to my Contacts and does not show contact names. It only shows e-mail addresses and does not link up to the corresponding email address in my Contacts. How can I fix this?

After upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS6, my Find My Friends app no longer links to my Contacts and does not show contact names. It only shows e-mail addresses and does not link up to the corresponding email address in my Contacts. How can I fix this?

I am also having problems with a site I am building. No matter what websafe font I use it displays as New Times Roman in FireFox. The correct fonts show in both IE9 and Chrome.
In addition, text shifts in FireFox. I have to position other text objects farther and farther apart as I go down the page or they start to overlap. Nav buttons and other images also have to be positioned in the wrong place for them to be in the correct place when the page is opened in FireFox. FireFox should display pages correctly by default. I can't expect th average user to have to tweek his/her settings to display my site.
I have been recommending FireFox on my website as the best browser. I might have to change that and abandon FireFox myself.

  • Premium Mail link broken for months - Please help

I have been trying to upgrade to Premium Mail (as per many of the other posts I read on here)
Every time I click on the Premium Mail link it tells me the page is broken. Thsi has been happening for a long while now. I can't find any way of doing it on Yahoo Mail website either. This is driving me nuts. I just want to keep my email address. We have already cancelled our broadband with BT since my boyfriend moved in and we consolidated phone lines.
    Please help.
    Heather

Your only hope is to contact Yahoo, as BT will have no more involvement as you are not one of their customers any more.

  • Mobile Safari mail link to doesn't show Exchange group

Has anyone noticed that while attempting to forward a URL from mobile Safari (iPhone/iPad), the composed message doesn't show Exchange contact groups?
If you have an Exchange contact group:
From Safari, try to Mail Link to this Page, then select the + icon in the To field in order to bring up contact groups. I haven't been able to forward a URL from Safari to an Exchange address book recipient.
Other applications do expose the Exchange group: Photos and the Mercury browser, for example.
iPhone 4 (ATT), version 4.3.3. Not sure what version of Exchange, but it's at least 2007. Windows Live group doesn't show, either, FWIW.

Yeah, it's only about the cost of one reasonably sized family eating one meal at Chick-Fil-A...
