ICal cache is corrupted

I'm getting the following errors from iCal:
9/7/12 10:37:13.629 AM iCal: CoreData: error: (11) Fatal error.  The database at /Users/lisamaco/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache is corrupted.  SQLite error code:11, 'database disk image is malformed'

9/7/12 10:37:14.110 AM iCal: Account refresh failed with error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=259 "The file “Calendar Cache” couldn’t be opened because it isn’t in the correct format." Ok, so I get it.  But what do I do about it?  My iCal entries *should* be in the cloud (they are showing up on my iPhone).  How do I clear or delete and recreate the cache?

I am having a similar problem with error message from icalendar: when I try to enter an event on my Mac from an  airline website.
Access to “Bestillingsreferanse:5AG62F, Fra:Bodø  Til:Bergen (WF615)” in “SCHOOL” in account “iCloud” is not permitted.
The server responded:
“403”
to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
But on my Mac there is no calendar folder in the library, no calendar cache to be found... ??? How can that be? I see on several forums the same advice: library/calendar/calendar cache. But in my library there is no folder for calendar, and no icalendar item listed in the "caches" folder.
Otherwise I have no trouble synching calendars between my Macs and icloud... just this message everytime I try to open an .ics file from downloads.... but more disconcerting is the lack of a calendar folder in the library! Are these two problems related?

  • ICal Alarm: None - Corrupted Information

When I'm creating new iCal events and go to set an Alarm, I'm now seeing the first entry in my list of previous options:
    None - Corrupted Information
    !http://img.skitch.com/20100107-jucxgwdwhyt21qdu11nk6rd284.png!
It appears others have seen this problem before - which is [documented in this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1983720] - but without resolution.
I happy that the system recognizes that the information is corrupted but I wish I knew how to resolve the the corruption.
Anybody know what I can do to clean this up?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
    quit iCal
in the Library/Preferences in your home folder locate com.apple.iCal.plist
duplicate it in case something breaks
    double-click com.apple.iCal.plist
click the black triangle beside root and scroll down to PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms
click the black triangle beside PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms
select item 0 under PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms and click Delete
    File/Save
    File/Quit
    restart iCal

  • ICal to Calendar corrupted data

Finally upgraded from 10.7 to 10.8 and everything went smoothly, until I realized the data in iCal was corrupted.
I use two primary calendars, Business (red) and Personal (blue). I used to use a third calendar long ago named Entourage (orange) when I was syncing to it, but haven't done so in many moons.
All entries in iCal under 10.7 were marked Entourage when Calendar took over in 10.8, but still appear red or blue in Calendar and on my iPad and iPhone. I moved a Business (red) appointment on the iPad to another day and after syncing via USB to the 10.8/iMac/Calendar, the event became Entourage (orange) while indicating Business in the Inspector info. Changing the event to Personal and then back to Business fixed the event, i.e. allowed it to sync properly.
Since I don't need the Entourage calendar, I deleted it on the iMac and synced, which wiped out all appointments on the iPad and iPhone made under 10.7, yet they remain in Calendar on the iMac with all the appropriate designations. If I change any aspect of an older event, it will sync properly to the iPad and iPhone.
Question - Is there any bulk change I could make to all my events in order to trigger an update to the overall data so that I can get the 10.7 events to once again sync with my iPad and iPhone?
I can certainly move forward with events only from this week on, I've already modified them, but I would very much like to have the old appointments for reference on the road and I would rather not have the corruption lurking for the future.
    Mahalo!

Great, then one thing to try is to go into your backup and recover the camendar files manually, overwriting the new ones. Make an export of your current callendars so you don't lose that week of information.
In the Finder, click the Go menu, then hold down the Option key on your keyboard, this will cause the Library to show in that menu. Click on the library and once you're in that folder find the Calendars folder.
Now that you are in that folder, click on the Time Machine icon in your menu bar and select 'Enter Time Machine'. Now navigate back to one day before you did the upgrade, select all contents of the folder and in the bottom left click 'Restore'.
Once the data has been restored, open the Calendar app and see if everything is back to normal.
You mentioned calendars being changed on your iPhone and iPad as well. If you use iCloud to sync your calendars (or google or another sync service) then there is a chance you may get duplicates or iCloud freaks out and overwrites everything you just did, basically undoing the restore. If this happens, do the procedure again but this time turn off calendar syncing first.

  • Cache database corrupt

I have a new install of 9ias on HP-UX 11.0 and an 8.1.7 origin database. The database cache config assistant failed during install. After several retries of the config assistant and an unexpected server shutdown, the database now needs recovery. Since the database is not archive logging and no backup yet, I can't recover. How can I create a new database? Articles on metalink talk about the deinstall, etc but warns not to delete the database files? Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Use the tool included in install /m or /c
    program by performing custom mode.
With this mode, you can delete or create
    a database.

  • Home Directories/font cache corruption

I have a network of about 30+ Macs which all have their user folders served from OS X Server (10.4.1). Users login to their accounts over the network from their systems sitting on their desks. The computers vary, Mac Minis, iMac G4s and iMac G5s.
All was very well until we upgraded all the workstations from 10.3.9 and 10.4.x to 10.4.5 then we started seeing trickles of font cache corruption. Now it's like an epidemic, everyone is seeing or has seen the problem, some just randomly, some everyday, some multiple times a day. It doesn't matter what hardware they are using.
One user in particular sees the problem everyday, sometimes a couple of times. For instance, at lunch they log out, leave the machine, come back and log in. Somwhere in that process the font cache becomes corrupt and Mail, Safari and Filemaker Pro 7 all exhibit font display problems.
I temporarily fix them by booting their system into Safe Mode and logging in as them which moves the font cache to the trash. I'll also delete com.apple.ATS out of /Library/Caches.
Some systems have had multiple fonts (I presume thanks to MS Office) and I'll resolve those with Font Book, I'll also validate the fonts and delete any that Font Book has flagged as unusable. I've even resolved fonts while in Safe Boot but the problem still persists.
I've even gone as far as just replacing the system with a new one in addition to ClamAV virus scans. There are never any virus' found and the problem evenually comes back.
    Any ideas?

I saw this same problem when we upgraded to TIger last month. Fonts in Filemaker and a few other apps would appear garbled, and Word would report almost every font as corrupted. The fix was to delete the folder /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/ from the client machine and restart. My solution was to create a launchd .plist file that deletes the font cache folder when the client machine boots up, and also deletes the folder every morning at 2:30 A.M. just to be safe. I installed the launchd file on every client computer in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ and this seemed to solve the problem. I instructed our users to restart their computer if they were experiencing font problems and i haven't had any more complaints. Here is the plist file that i use: (I made it using Launchd Editor http://www.codepoetry.net/products/launchdeditor)

  • IMAP Dovecot Error - Corrupted index cache 10.6.4

My CEO reported that he was unable to find a series of emails sent to and received from a specific email address. As the day progressed, we discovered that additional emails were missing.

    Any ideas?

I am not sure if this is the best procedure and there may be unintended consequences, but this is what I did to resolve the issue.
    I stopped the mail service.
From a shell, I navigated to each directory where an issue was reported.
In these directories, I renamed the following files, prepending them with "old."
    dovecot.index
    dovecot.index.cache
    dovecot.index.log
    EXAMPLE: mv dovecot.index old.dovecot.index
I then restarted the mail service. These 3 files were recreated for each IMAP folder on client access.

  • ICal corrupted with white screen

I’m running OS10.5.6 on two mac pro’s and using MobileMe to sync my calendars. Last night, I noticed that the iCal screen was entirely white and frozen on my home MacPro and had to force quit. I restarted the Mac. It seemed ok last night but today it is having the same problem as my office MacPro: Today I got the white screen on opening iCal. I tried some obvious things like repair privileges and the like, but finally unsubscribed to MobileMe and then resubscribed. That didn’t fix it so I trashed whatever I could from my user Library preferences folder that contained iCal in title, and unsubscribed to MobileMe and then resubscribed. That didn’t work, so I then trashed my Calenders folder in my library and iCal files in my Preferences folder; and unsubscribed to MobileMe and then resubscribed. Every time I resubscribed I restored data from MobileMe site to local computer. I’m still having the same problem:
    1. iCal screen is incomplete and sometimes goes blank
    2. To Do Items are not visible.
    3. If I open iCal preferences, and then try to close by clicking red ball, it won’t close. I then have to quit or force quit iCal to get rid of the preference window.
Something is obviously corrupted but it’s strange that it’s occurring on 2 separate computers. The only think in common is MobileMe.
    Suggestions appreciated.
    thanks

I have been investigating this problem and have the following info and a "pseudo-fix"
    1. This happened on 3 different macs when syncing with or replacing with MobileMe calendar/address book. As noted above by others, sometimes I get a white screen but usually month calendar (which can't be edited) and empty side bars; I can't move to other months. It appears that iCal is freezing on loading/drawing calendar.
    2. Syncing to my iPhone works ok and reminders do come up on my Mac so iCal seems to be working but just not drawing the screen.
    3. Address book works fine
    4. If I delete Calendars folder in library and iCal preferences, restart, and then sync with MobileMe, iCal works ok initially but within a day the problem recurs even if not connected to internet. Apple tech said that my iCal must be corrupted, but I think not due reason discussed below in item 5.
    5. If I make a clean new user, and sync with MobileMe, then iCal works. I have done this now for over a month and it's stable. Curiously, I did try moving the Calendars folder from the library of my standard user to the new user library folder, and iCal froze up. I deleted the user and made another bare new user and iCal is working ok on several macs.
    6. I think that some app is interfering with iCal in my stander user. e.g. I run Quickeys and variety of other stuff, and this is not running in the new "bare" user. I also have adobe CS3 (and 4), MSO 2008, VPN, Skype, etc. etc. so I have no idea which app is conflicting or how.
    7. As far as my "pseudo-fix", I enter new events via Safari directly into MobileMe and then sync with my macs. This will give me reminder-alarms and allows syncing with iPhone. Every so often (maybe 1-2x per week), I log into my new user account, sync with MobileMe, and then add alarms to needed events in iCal (I haven't figured out how to do this in Safari).
    8. I suspect that Apple will quietly fix this bug in a future update and the problem will go away - this is typically what this "infallible" company does so they don't have to admit a problem. My current setup works but it's a hassle and I wish I had not abandoned Now-Up-To-Date, but I don't want to re-enter a bazillion events into a new calendar program.
    9. I need to keep a record of past events: I did output the calendar as a pdf so if I ever decide to abandon MobileMe and iCal, I will at least have a record.
    Hope this helps

  • ICal Helper Crashing (Snow Leopard 10.6.2)

I no longer get iCal alarm notifications on my desktop. I believe it's because iCal Helper keeps crashing (log example at the end of this message). I've tried deleting iCal caches, preferences, et al. to no avail. I really hope that it's not caused by one or more corrupt events because the process of elimination would be extremely painful given how many meetings are in my calendar. Any ideas are much appreciated. Thanks!

    Brian,
Did this behavior start after applying the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Update using Software Update. If so, try downloading and reinstalling the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo).
Have you backed up your iCal data using iCal>File>Export...>iCal Archive? If not do so now.
Since you appear to be using MobileMe, also try: Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6: Resetting the SyncServices folder.
Also note the discussion in: Apple - Support - Discussions - Event Reminder crashes at start up ...

  • ICal seems to run on its own

It seems to me that iCal in OS Lion starts and runs sometimes without even opening it. There will be times when I look at the dock and it is running, without me even starting or opening it. I know I have closed it when done working with it. This drives me crazy and has me wondering if I did close it. This seems to be an intermittent thing.

    Greetings,
iCal will "silently" open itself if you quit it while it is in the process of updating a CalDAV server (Google / MobileMe / iCloud, etc.)  This usually happens in the first several seconds after you quit the app.  Your only indication is that the app icon may jump in the dock and the dot will re-appear.  In essence the app was closed while it was still pushing a change so it opens itself up to complete the process you interrupted.
If the iCal database cache is corrupted I can see how that might make iCal think it needs to do an update but I doubt this would be intermittent.  I'd suggest paying very close attention to when you close the app and note what applications you open between quitting and when you notice it opening again.  Any applications that deal with contact / calendar syncing (besides iTunes) would be worth noting.
In case it is the cache:
    1. Make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase)
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Calendars > com.apple.iCal.helper (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase)

  • Why does ical freeze when I swipe?

About 90% of the time iCal will freeze up the whole system, except the mouse, when I use the two finger swipe between months. iCal freezes even with or without any events in the calendar and it happens no matter which User is loged in. I sync via MobileMe, but discontinued the sync and erased all events to see if that made a difference. It didn't. I've deleted iCal caches in the Library/Calendars & Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal folder thinking that might solve the problem. It didn't. I find it hangs when in Month & Year views. Day & Week seem to be ok.
I'm currently running a new MacBook Air that had Lion preinstalled when I purchased it. I did migrate my programs via a Time Machine backup when I set up the MBA from an iMac that was also running Lion. I'm out of ideas any sugestions would be helpful. Thanks.

To reinstall Lion without the disk, you're going to need to do a reinstall using Apple's new recovery mode called "Lion Recovery". You can read more in depth about Lion's recovery here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/161088/2011/07/hands_on_lion_recovery_mode.html
When I reinstalled Lion this is what I did - it took about 1.2 hours:
    1) Back up your computer
    2) Make sure you have a good internet connection because OS X Lion will be downloaded via the internet. It is about 4 GB in size, so it will take a while (45 min with a good broadband connection)
    3) Have your Apple ID/Mac App Store ID & Password handy - you will be asked for it
    4) Restart the machine while holding down Command+R untill you see the spinning wheel
    5) Navigate to Reinstall Mac OS X and click Continue.
    6) Follow the promps to reinstall. This will do an archive and reinstall meaning that when the machine restarts your system should look the same and nothing should be deleted. Just for insurance though, make a back up before doing the reinstall.
    7) Your computer should finish the install by itself and restart when completed. This should replace any corrupt files in iCal (or any other applcation for that matter) and you should be up in running in less than 1.5 hours.
Check out the Macworld article for more in depth information about Lion's recovery modes.
    I hope this helps.

  • ICal weird dock icon after 10.7.2 update

    Hello,
I updated yesterday to 10.7.2 and since then, iCal is showing one weird icon in the dock, when it is not running.
It looks like a trabsparent image with the current date in the middle in black.
When iCal is running, it shows then its normal icon as expected.
I am using a macbook pro mid2009, 2,53MHz, if that matters.
I removed and added back the icon to the dock, but the bahaviour still persists.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

I've got the exact same problem, MacBook Pro 4,1 here. As you can see it's really tricky to see on a dark background:
Running the app makes this go back to normal...but only when the app is running. Note that the icon also looks like this in Launchpad.
I've looked through various forums and have tried all of these proposed solutions (evidently this is a common occurrance in previous iCal updates):
    Trash Dock preference file
Trash iCal preference files (all of them)
    Trash iCal Caches data
    Repair drive permissions
    Reboot
Pull icon out of dock and re-add it
None of those, except the first one, do anything. The first one "fixes" it briefly as it resets the Dock to defaults. This causes iCal to revert to the default icon all the way up to the point that whatever process goes in, grabs the current date, and alters the icon to show the current date. Whatever that process is, it's the one with the corrupted or missing icon graphics. If any one knows anything about what updates the iCal icon to show the current date, that would be the first step to fixing this.
Anyone else feel like Lion has been the buggiest OS X release thus far? Granted, I didn't use 10.0 or 10.1.

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!! iCal keeps shutting down.

I have posted twice already, but am getting no replies at all. I really am at a loss what to do as I am not very experienced at all with computer problems.
I hooked my iPhone up to computer and when sync-ing iCal it came up with some conflicts that made no sense - such as Monday 22 June conflicted with Monday 23 June. I clicked on sync according to the correct date and since then iCal just closes every time I try to open it up on my computer. iCal on my iPhone is still ok. I have sent 'report problem to Apple' but this doesn't really help me.
I am hoping that there must be something I can do to try and resolve this. And I am really really hoping someone can advise me.
    Thank you . Linda

I think I have the answer. At the least, it did solve MY problem.
To restate, iCal somehow got corrupted on one of my machines. My iPhone and MobileMe calendars were fine. Over time, however, it became apparent that the corruption must have been on MobileMe and I eventually screwed up iCal on my three computers. I tried everything I could think of, including calling AppleCare, but nothing worked. I could delete everything related to iCal on the computer, and it would still end up crashing on restart. (Eventually I even screwed up MobileMe - I must have accidentally let one of the corrupt computers resync the calendar, which messed up the "good" one on the server.)
Finally, I went to the Apple Store and duplicated the process. I deleted everything and we watched it crash anyway. Curiously, the source files in the ApplicationSupport folder regenerated themselves out of nowhere. This gave the support guy an idea - he figured that the corrupted files must be stuck in the SyncServices folder/system. We reset that system, deleted everything, and now iCal cold start and not crash and not regenerate crap. Fortunately, I had a not too old backup of my calendar database, so it wasn't THAT hard to get current again.
    Here is what I did (on 10.4 - 10.5 is a different process - look here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627)
    1) Turn off .Mac syncing in .Mac prefs if active
    2) Backup or export Address Book (just in case). I'd tell you to backup your iCal database, but since it is crashing, I don't know if that is possible.
    3) Open the Terminal and execute this command:
    killall SyncServer syncuid SystemIUServer
    4) Remove the ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices folder
    5) I'd also remove all the iCal related materials. It is up to you if you want to delete them. Delete anything iCal related from the ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Preferences folders
    6) Reboot
Now try to launch iCal. If it stays alive and you have a backup, restore the backup. If you have a good copy on MobileMe, turn .Mac syncing back on and click on the Advanced tab on the .Mac prefs page and then click on the Reset Sync Data button. Choose to Replace your Calendar data on your computer with the data on .Mac.
Again, this all worked with 10.4.11. I don't know what it looks like with 10.5. I was afraid that it would overwrite my iPhone calendar, but it synced the phone and new calendar perfectly and I am a happy camper now!
    Hope this helps!!

  • ICal digest authentication broken after system crash

Our XServe crashed a few days ago. It rebooted fine and all services works like before the crash. Only iCal authentication is giving me a headache. Digest authentication isn't working. Kerberos works and Basic, but I need Digest to work too. For web-authentication, everything works too, and we know the password is correct.
    caldavd > access.log gives this:
    127.0.0.1 - username [09/Jan/2013:14:38:15 +0200] "PROPFIND /principals/ HTTP/1.1" 207 504 "-" "Mac OS X/10.8.2 (12C60) CalendarAgent/55" i=8009 t=8.0 or=2
    ApplePasswordServer.Server.log gives this:

    ApplePasswordServer.Error.log gives this:
Jan  9 2013 14:38:15    client response doesn't match what we generated
Any ideas on what to look for? Caches or corrupt files to check?
    Thanks!

Finally found the error. Somehow a setting for Digest authentication had changed to
    Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = "auth"
    after changing it back to
    Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = ""
    everything works well again!
