ICal Calendars list blank, MissingSync, MobileMe issues

I'm using OS X 10.4.11 and iCal 2.0.5. I recently installed Missing Sync 6.0.4 for Palm OS (to sync with a Palm TX), so am finally actually using iCal instead of the Palm calendar. I also just got around to resubscribing to .mac (without realizing that I was doing so smack in the midst of the MobileMe launch). I'm listing all three of these questions together in case there's some connection -- most likely something connected to MissingSync or MobileMe setup.
1. iCal was working fine for me, synched with the Palm via Missing Sync, etc., but now I can't see the list of calendars. I can see events in the calendar itself, color-coded for different calendars, but nothing shows up in the calendars list (left-hand pane). Any ideas how to get that list back?
And two other questions, in case anyone here has answers:
2. Sent this query to Mark/Space (MissingSync) a couple days ago, but no reply yet -- when I sync Palm and iCal, events entered on the Palm do not get copied to the laptop. No error messages, and all else goes fine ... Events conduit is set for "Synchronize," "All calendars," and to put read-only events in "Unfiled."
3. Sent this query twice to Mac's MobileMe help, but have gotten only a completely unhelpful form letter with generic links back ... (Yes, I realize their support people are probably utterly bogged down right now.) I used to have .Mac, but expired 1/07. Now have a .Me account. I can't sync at all, even just to my iDisk (let alone with my other Mac) -- .Mac in System Preferences won't let me set up Sync (when I click that tab, it "thinks" for a while, then get a "problem with the sync operation: .Mac login failed" error message). Specifically re: iCal: is there some workaround? Some painless way to sync iCal events to iDisk without a functioning Sync feature? I'm hoping the sync failure is just a temporary glitch, and not a sign that I need to upgrade to Tiger if I want basic .Mac-level functionality, but main thing is just being able to view/use my iCal calendars from my work computer!

Installation continues to degrade. On startup of the application, all buttons and controls are missing.
Closing and restarting iCal causes the buttons and controls to return, but all calendar entries are missing.
Restarting the computer causes the sequence to start again - controls are missing, restarting the app brings them back but then calendar entries are useless.
Totally useless.

  • ICal Calendar List Blank in Lion

I don't recall this being the case when I first installed Lion, but the list of calendars in iCal has gone missing and the overall behavior of the application is problematic. This first came up when I noticed that Holiday events were displayed twice in the calendar. I clicked on calendar to get a list to see if perhaps the Holiday calendar was duplicated. No list appeared. At some point, I clicked on the calendar display itself and the missing pane appeared. It was, however, blank.
Clicking on the list itself produces no result.
    Any ideas?
Have to say I'm deeply disappointed in this release of iCal - between bugs like this, the removal of features (like being able to just display the list of calendars in a section of the display), and the idiotic, unnecessary skeuomorphic user interface the application has become a triumph of form over actual function.

  • ICal calendar list is empty and all events are gone

My iCal calendar list shows up empty and all my calendar events are gone as well. I read posts with a similar issue where the list of calendars disappeared yet the events remained. In this case, everything is missing.
I tried deleting the ical plist file but it did not help.
    Has anyone else seen this?

  • ICal calendar list empty but events still visible

So here's the problem. I open iCal last night, and my calendar list is empty. Also, when I open iCal there are no events visible until I change views (say from week to month or month to day). The same is true of my tasks. Even after changing views, though, my calendar list is still empty. The only change I've made in the last day or two is to have iCal sync my calendars with .Mac.
    I'm running 10.4.3 on a 17 inch Powerbook G4 1GHz with 1GB RAM. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

    ellisjs,
I'm having the same problems that you describe. There is another thread in the forums that discuss the same issues. One user, Norm, Gilbert, offers a solution that has worked for him.
"If I remember the steps, they involved removing the following items in the user library:
    ~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    ~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    ~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.plist
and then deleting the .plist files from here:
    ~\library\application suport\iCal
and then moving the Sources folder from here to the Desktop:
    ~\library\application suport\iCal
Then a restarted my Mac and lunched iCal. Everything worked as expected and has continued to work properly even after adding events, re-starting and doing a sync with Mark Space Missing Sync.
Knock on wood, it keeps working."
After following his steps it works until I launch iCal again. It varies from now showing my calendars to not showing my To Do's. I have not seen any fixes that work yet, but will continue to monitor this thread for any solutions. It appears to be a 10.4.3 issue from I have seen so far.

  • How can I change the order of iCal calendars listed ON MY MAC?

After upgrading to Lion the order of calendars listed on the left in iCal changed from my previous choice. I cannot modify the order by dragging a calendar to a different position in the list. I shall appreciate any suggestion to be able to have the list reordered.

Subscribe to a podcast. By default the episodes will be listed in reverse order, newest on top. In the column header for 'Release date' click the arrow so that it points upwards:
The order will now be oldest on top.
Create a playlist: select all the episodes you want to be in it in the podcast list and drag them to the playlist (enable the sidebar if necessary to make all this easier, command-option-s). They will appear in correct order and play continuously.

  • On iPhone 5, cannot get iCal calendar List to appear

    iPhone 5: IOS 7.1
Since installing the latest 7.1, found that when I open iCal, and click on the search icon at the top right of the window, the keyboard comes up but with the month showing. On top of the month is a gray transparent overlay. The List will not appear. When I type an "L" on the keyboard, only a few of the listings appear. There is nothing I can do to get my entire list to appear.  I have pressed the Home and OFF/ON button to reboot the iPhone with no success.  Any suggestions?

  • Why does my ical calendar list not reflect what is in my calendar. It has all the deleted calendars?

I am trying to sync my IPAD II with iTunes 10.
I have reorganized my calendar by renaming and deleting some calendars.
When I go to the info tab and try and select what calendar I would like to sync I get the old list of calendars from before I made my changes.
I have reset the sync services folder by using this command in a terminal window
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    and they all disappeared.
When I attempted a new sync all the old calendars showed up again.
I am doing this on my I-mac using Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Found a solution form an other post.
I hade to stop the sync to my iPad to delete the calendars on it.
Then I synced again and only had the new calendars that I had in my ICal.

  • ICal missing entered data - possible MobileMe issue?

Hey all. Trying to help a friend of mine work through a problem they are having. She called me in a panic because information in her iCal was missing. She keeps records of her clients appointments and and such and a lot of that data is missing randomly.
She is synced up to MobileMe and her iPhone (not sure I'd the data is missing there yet. She was going to check and get back to me). What would cause the data to disappear or be replaced? Any thoughts or experiences in this area. She's running 10.6.2 on her MBP.
    Thanks!

Have her contact Mobile Me Support directly and use the "Chat" feature.

  • ICal Calendar or ToDo list not showing up.

I recently switched from Palm Desktop to iCal to sync with my Treo 680. (Mac OS Tiger 10.4.11). I'm using Missing Sync as my sync app.
The iCal Calendar list only shows up once in a while, usually not at all. Intermittently, my To Do list doesn't show up at all times either, or sometimes only partial lists. Everything on the Palm Treo is fine, though.
So far I am not liking iCal-- Palm Desktop seems much more capable and iCal seems filled with bugs.
Please help- I don't think I can switch back to Palm Desktop, but I can't function properly with only a partially working iCal...

No you will just need to go to preferences in ical and make sure it is what you want.

  • Deleting iCal Calendars

My iCal calendar list includes calendars that I have deleted from my Google Calendar. Deleting them in iCal get an error message, "`the server responded with an error:  calendar.google (my account).... is not a location that supports the request." If anyone has an a suggestion of how to get rid of these old cals, which appear on all my devices, it wold be very much appreciated!

I just found a solution: Go into iSync, (use macintosh HD, applications), then go to Preferences. Turn off iSync (uncheck enable syncing on this computer). Then Reset Sync History (be sure to push Reset Sync History on second screen too). Then logoff/logon or reboot. Then you can delete calendar events or calendars or whatever you need. If you need to sync again, just go into iSync and re-enable syncing. The problem does not seem to come back. I tried all the other solutions posted and none worked except for this one.

  • Meaning of number next to calendar list?

Recently, on my iCal Calendars list the number one (white number in gray oval) shows up against one of my calendars. In addition, a red sunburst with a white number one appears against the iCal icon in the dock.
I can't seem to find any documentation as to what it is and how to remove it.
    Any suggestions?
    Art

    Good Day Art,
Simple its a notification, from when someone send an email meeting requested. Just go to view, click show notifications. at the bottom left corner, you will see the item/event that was sent to you for that date, then click on the box at the bottom right corner; that acknowledges that you got it and are aware
    then its gone...

  • Calendar missing from iCal's list.

Noticed today that our Work calendar is missing from iCal's list. Checked partner's iMac, iPad, 2 iPhones, MobileMe. Missing from all of them. Turned off syncing with MobileMe on both iMacs & all other devices. Quit iCal/Calendar on everything.
In Finder window selected ~/Library. Entered Time Machine. Selected ~/Library/Calendars. Selected a timeline a few days back. Clicked Restore. Said 'Keep both', & removed original from Library folder.
Opened iCal. When it first loaded the calendars, Work was there, but it quickly disappeared and what's more, events added in other calendars since the timeline date chosen were there too. So there's something else (to do with Sync Services?) I need to turn off or delete....?
I'll be very grateful for enlightenment here.
    OS is 10.6.8

These are evidently MobileMe calendars, to which the Apple Tech Note linked to above does not apply; and turning off syncing in System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync has no effect on iCal syncing which no longer uses that method.
This is why your calendar is disappearing: MobileMe sees it as deleted, so every time you add it back in from Time Machine (whereupon it has an earlier modification date than the deletion) MobileMe brings it up to date by deleting it, and also updates the other calendars.
There is a method for dealing with this issue, though it's a trifle complicated and you need to work through the steps carefully and exactly. The process is detailed here:

  • IPhone calendar + List View All Calendars option (MobileMe)

    Hi all,
I'm trying to fix a problem, which maybe there for some time already, in the iPhone Calendar. I'm using MobileMe to sync contacts and appointments. All my devices are up-to-date to the latest levels of firmware and software.
I have a normal calendar in iCal and some subscribed calendars. Ther's no difference in both type of calendars.
    This is what's happening.....
    - Individual calendars are all looking perfect in List, Week and Month view.
    - All Calendar option is looking good in Week and Month view.
    - All Calendar option is bad in List view mode.
When selecting the last option the Today date is changed a couple of days (Today = Wednesday 10-3), but also appointments are on different days. For example the soccer games on Saturday (6-3) and Sunday (7-3) are now changed to Tuesday (9-3) and Wednesday (10-3).
I have the same calendar on my other iPhone and nothing weird going on over there?!?
    Does somebody have a clue?
PS. The calendars for this (MobileMe) user are all correct on the other Apple devices.
    Thanks!
    Regards,

    Hi All,
Got a message from cini007, but I get an error message when I want to reply to that message. I have copied the "solution" below.
I have tried this, but it's not working. The only thing happening is it has changed the dates randomly.
Although I have been looking for the auto shut-off option. I can't find that option only in the alarm clock options?
cini007 posted "Re: iPhone calendar + List View All Calendars option (MobileMe)" in "iPhone calendar + List View All Calendars option (MobileMe)" on Mar 9, 2010 8:20:57 AM.
I had Genius Bar visit with same issue—no go (was advised to reset to factory settings).
BUT here is the SOLUTION as it happened again:
    1. set auto shut-off to never
    2. turn OFF MobileMe syncing for calendars on the iPhone (from Settings menu)
    3. wait for calendar entries to be removed—takes minutes if you have several calendars
    4. hard reset iPhone (press Home and On/Off at the same time for >5 seconds), and wait 2 minutes (about the time to reboot)
    5. restart iPhone
    6. turn ON MobileMe syncing for calendars on the iPhone (again, from Settings menu)

  • ICal not showing calendar list, crashing frequently

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to 10.7.2 a few days ago and I've found iCal to be extremely buggy.  In addition to frequent crashes, I am unable to see my calendars in the Calendars list.  Here's what I get when I click on it:
Is anyone else experiencing this?  I feel like I need to reinstall the app, but can I do that without having to reinstall the entire system?

    Hi,
I don't believe you can get your iCal todos on the Calendar application on the iPad. This question is more relevant in the iPad forum. I suggest you also post it there.
