ICal calendars vanished

I am using iCal on 10.4.11 Recently after deleting what I believed to be a corrupted plist file none of my calendars appear.
Now here is the strange part. When I choose to make a new Calendar Group my old events and times come back but none of the calendars come back at all.
What do I do?

Those are the same "Sharing & Permissions" that are present on my iCal application.
1. Did you move any iCal files using the finder?
Not that I can recall.
2. What "Sharing & Permissions" do you find on your "Calendars" folder which is located in your Home>Library Folder.
I don't find "Sharing & Permissions" in my library calendar folder. I do have some garbage I don't understand:

  • All iCal Calendars vanished

    Help!
I have no idea how this happened, but today I opened iCal and all of my calendar information -- ALL OF IT -- is gone. I have been keeping a daily calendar, listing all activities for the day, for over a year. It vanished. When I tried to page through the months, all of them horrifyingly blank, a transparent grey shading appeared all over my screen with text in the middle that said, "You must restart your computer." I did. Re-opened iCal. Happened again. I used Disk Utility to verify and repair permissions, and now I can open iCal without the grey screen appearing, but it's still empty. I looked in my Users folder in Library/Calendars, and all 4 of my Calendar types have been updated as of this afternoon, with only 4 KB of data. Empty.
The only thing I can correlate this with is that a few days ago my computer began unexpectedly freezing after I created a "Internet Sharing" setup for my housemate to access the internet over AirPort, from another iBook, going through my computer to share the cable modem I access via an ethernet cable. We discovered that after a while of his using the internet connection, my computer freezes and I am forced to restart. By freeze, I mean that the cursor can still move around the screen, but I can't click on anything. I am afraid that one of the times I had to restart I had iCal open and somehow it got saved in a bizarrely empty state. Is this possible?
Another weird and possibly related thing is that one of the times I had to restart, when I reopened my Mail program, all the emails in my "drafts" folder were marked "unread." (This has happened to me in the past upon a forced restart, when every email in my inbox or "junk" folder were marked as unread but things were otherwise ok. And just about a year ago, for no apparent reason whatsoever, my Mail program opened as if I had reverted to factory settings, and I had to reinstall all my email from a backup. Could these things be related?)
Obviously I am in no way Mac-savvy in terms of the workings of this mysterious machine, and I know I may not be giving all the necessary information. But any info anyone can provide would be immensely appreciated.

I rather stupidly tried to download my iPhone Calendar to iCal and it ate that too. I finally just reloaded the software and download my calendar from MOZY. I now back it up every day and sync it with Google. I am disappointed though. I switched from a PC last year and was excited about my Apple. Looks like nothing is perfect.
    Merry Christmas!

  • Random iCal events vanished.

I accidently brushed my keyboard with the side of my hand, near the bottom right of the KB.
and almost every event from today back, and some future vanished.
    very odd.
I sync w/ Entourage, and i tried refreshing. i dragged an event from Entourage Calendar to iCal and it worked, but than synced the evnt back into Entourage Calendar, duplicating it.
if i create a new event in entourage it appears in iCal, and the same happens the other way.
if i change categories of an event in Entourage the will re-appear in iCal.
    odd.
I can find any pattern to the vanished events. some future events from Entourage remained.
And events from multiple non-synced iCal calendars vanished.
    any thoughts? help?

Same story here, though not on all of our machines. The problem affects a MacBook Pro syncing iCal via mobileme. The following procedure did not fix:
    delete ical.app
    reboot
    empty trash for good measure
install ical from optional installs - should say that it is going to install rather than upgrade
    reboot for good measure
The console shows this error repeatedly:
iCal[179] *Assertion failure in -[CoreTask OutlineView _uncachedRectHeightOfRow:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-949.43/TableView.subproj/NSTableView.m:1574
    iCal[179] rowHeight must be > 0
    iCal[179] rowHeight must be > 0
Tried changing /Library/Caches/Metadata/iCal to NOT.iCal in case cached data was the problem. No luck. Same with /Users/$USER/Library/Caches/com.apple.ical.
I then moved /Users/$USER/Library/Calendars to NOT.Calendars. After doing that, iCal "upgraded calendars", resync'd (sanc?) with mobileme, and worked.
Of the log file entries that went by during the last step, the following seemed interesting, though might not be related as they seem more to do with sync:
iCalExternalSync[547] Lock Contention on CalendarStore Initialization
(lots of Failed to look up record with Id: blahblahblah)
ConflictResolver[556] Ignoring exception NSObjectNotAvailableException trying to remove lock file: Can't remove existing lock for /Users/$USER/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/conflicts

  • Why are my iCal calendars randomly disappearing with all their corresponding events?

Why are my ical calendars randonly disappearing? I updated to Maverick, but one disappeared before I did that update. I have 10 different calendars, each identified by its own color, example: "work" calendar is yellow, my personal calendar is green. Every month or so, one randomly disappears without my even being in the program or changing anything. Along with the calendar ALL its events are gone as well. None of those events show on my iphone, imac, ipad or macboook pro. They just vanish, along with many appointments I have scheduled, and their directions and info. Im SO FRUSTRATED! Im ready to go back to paper.

Got it fixed cal got set for icloud on my iphone. now I can choose them in itunes.

  • Sync a delegate iCal calendar to Google?

I use iCal at work. I have a personal work calendar that is networked so that others at my office can see whether I am busy or not. I have also been given delegate access (read & write) to a group calendar. (File...Preferences, click on my account, the group calendar is listed in the Delegates tab.)
I would like to see both of these calendars on my Android phone, which would be quite helpful when not in the office. Probably the easiest way would be to sync (even one way) to google calendar, but I cannot find a way. I tried Spanning Sync, which worked great for my work calendar, but it could not access the delegate calendar.
    Anyone have ideas?
    Mac OS 10.7.4
    iCal 5.0.3

I encountered a similar problem when finally (and with much regret) I was obliged to migrate my MobileMe to iCloud last month.
Many years of iCal history vanished without trace during this automated transition by Apple and iCloud then kindly synched the resulting vacuum back to iCal on my Mac.
Fortunately, iCloud wasn’t able to decimate iCal on my other Macs because (1) they are still running Snow and (2) I had switched them off as a precaution.  Good job I did.
My solution was to export my iCal data on one of those other Macs to a backup file – then I imported that backup file into my Lion-updated Mac’s iCal. That restored all the iCloud-deleted iCal data back on to my Mac and this was promptly synched automatically to my Calendar on iCloud.  So, now it’s all there and showing - going back many years
Perhaps you could do something similar?  In the meantime, be very careful not to let iCloud’s amnesia get synched back to your Mac (nor to any other of your devices).
Experience has taught me never to trust an “upgrade” until it is proven to be working correctly and always to keep in reserve another Mac with a properly-functioning system and all synching to it switched off…
    Good luck!

  • I create a birthday calendar in iCal and then click on it in iphoto at the begining of the calendar project each year.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project?

I created a birthday calendar to use in iphoto for calendar.  When a new calendar project is started each year, I click on it in.  Some how the birthday did not populate the photo calendar this year.  The photo calendar is almost complete.  Is there a way to add the birthday iCal calendar into the calendar project? I would prefer not to start over.

    Hi,
If you first select the calendar on the left, so that its background is highlighted blue/grey, when you make a new events they should be added to that calendar.
    Best wishes

  • ICal Calendar Colors Changing On Their Own; iCloud Connection

    AGGRAVATING PROBLEM:
Many in this forum have written recently about a problem ongoing for people with multiple iCal calendars where iCal calendar colors change "automatically" when you haven't selected those colors, or even "change back" before your eyes to some color your DIDN'T select after you select a new one.  If you log into iCloud on the Web and try to change the color of certain calendars, they refuse to change.  Try as you might, the color you want for your calendar won't "stick" and it is forced to be the wrong color on all your devices.  In some cases, even the names of some of the calendars cannot be changed.  On other calendars in your list, the colors and names will change fine.
Related symptoms:  Calendars you have deleted "come back."   Or, calendars you did not create yourself show up in your calendars list, such as "Calendar" or "Home" or even "Untitled."  Note that the problem seems to be most prevalent with calendars with names "Home," "Work," OR either of these words in the NAME of the calendar.  For instance, "Bob's Work" might get snagged (it can't be deleted without coming back or its color is stuck and "comes back").
I spent a long time on the phone with a helpful Apple senior advanced specialist on this problem today.  We conducted a very large number of "experiments". Our family has two iPads, 2 iPhones, and 2 iMacs, so it was easy to rule things in or out.  I will present some information that may help.
SOME OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE GOING ON:
First, Apple has not resolved this.  But the problem appears to be related to iCloud, and NOT to individual devices.  After de-linking all of my individual devices from iCloud, I could change any of the colors or names at will on any given device, create new calendars and then change their colors to whatever I wish, delete calendars, change names...no problem.  However, after re-linking calendars to iCloud, all the problems mentioned above returned.  The chances that my iMacs, iPhones, and iPads are all causing the problem independently is very low. They also have slightly different OS versions on them, so it is not likely an a particular device OS, though that could be indirectly related.  Also, the colors "change back" within about the same time (usually a few seconds to up to 30 seconds) that it takes to do a "refresh" (i.e. an update) to the iCloud servers.  This when iCloud is turned on, and the absence of it when iCloud is turned off (for calendars), strongly suggests that it is the iCloud server and its interaction with your devices that the fundamental cause of the problem.
Apple has said that they are aware of this problem and their engineers are working on a fix.  Historically, this can mean just a few days, or it could be a few months, years, or "whenever."  They don't give estimates of when it will be fixed.  Exactly WHY this is happening is unclear, but my guess is that it is a modification to the iCloud server code that Apple implemented without testing it thoroughly enough to discover this problem.  Apple does not admit to that, of course and I don't know if I am correct.
A WORKAROUND SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME:
Please note this is a workaround and not a full fix.  Apple needs to run a patch on their iCloud server code.  Until then, I did the following which seems to have worked for me for now.  Read the whole list before deciding whether to proceed.  I don't guarantee it will work in all situations.
Note...I found I was stuck for now with the color of ONE of my calendars.  If you are like me, you want to keep that one and work around it....
Backup first... Make sure that your iCloud copy of your calendar data has the calendar event information you want to save - even if the color is wrong.  Log in at www.icloud.com and do a refresh to sync to the Cloud.  Check over your calendars online to make sure the event data appears to be there for all of your calendars (even if their color or name is not what you want).
    Steps:
    1.     Go to every device that you have linked to iCloud separately. Go into Settings, iCloud, and then uncheck the "Calendars" option.  This delinks your calendars for that device to iCloud.  As you do this on each device, when prompted, select "Keep On My" ..iPAD...iPhone...iMac... etc.  This will preserve the calendar information on the device so it won't be deleted.  I think this is safer, but you can click on "Delete" if you want, too.  Note - if one of your devices is an iMac, with OSX Lion and before, you may be forced (I was) to delete the iCloud calendars from the iMac.  So again, make sure they are backed up to the Cloud first (or somewhere else).
    3.     With the iCloud Calendars Option on all your devices still turned off, go to the WEB and log into iCloud.com.  You need to figure our which calendar iCloud won't let you change the color for.  You probably already know.  On iCloud.com, click on "Calendars," then click open your calendar list and select "EDIT" at the bottom of the dialog box.  One at a time, click on the color dots next to each calendar name and try to change the color (you can put any back after the test if you want). You will probably see a certain one that just goes right back to what you don't want.  This is the one for which the color is stuck, but you may be able to change the name of it now that your devices are unlinked from iCloud.
    4.     Still in iCloud.com, change the names and colors of any of the other calendars you wish to change.  Delete any empty calendars that mysteriously appeared without your wanting them.  Take note of all the calendars, names, and colors that are on the final list of calendars.
    5.     On EVERY device, BEFORE turning iCloud back on on ANY of them: Change the colors and/or names of calendars, delete calendars, etc. so that the calendar names and colors on the device are exactly the same as what you left in iCloud.com in the last step.
    6.   One at a time on each device, go back to Settings and then "iCloud" and check again the box for "Calendars."  You will be asked whether you want to "MERGE" your data with iCloud.  I selected MERGE to ensure I didn't lose anything.  Link each device again into iCloud one at a time.
    7.  When each device is back, go back to iCloud on the Web, or go into iCAL on one of your devices.  Set to view ALL calendars.  Look for duplicates of some of your events.  I found quite several as an artifact of "merging", but in my case it only took me about 5 minutes to go through quickly and delete the duplicates.  It deleted the duplicates on all of the devices at once, so I only needed to delete dups on one device.  I did not find that I lost any events as long as I kept one valid copy.
Again, no guarantees...hope this works for others.  Good luck.

I'm getting the same thing and it's really bugging me! Keeps changing colour to one I do not want and I have tried everything to get it to stay the colour I have chosen!!

  • How can I find the URL for an iCal calendar in iCloud so I can make a link to it on a web page.

I have a single iCal calendar that I want people to access through my webpage.  How can I find the URL so that they can view the calendar without having to subscribe to it.  I converted to iCloud from .Mac and I can see that changes to this calendar are not showing up.

Mmmh.. i see... I don't know wether it is possible for people just check calendars without subscribing to them... I have been sharing some calendars in my website (maybe you can have a look at it in order to check wether it could be a possible solution for you)

  • How can I allow multiple users to edit a single shared iCal calendar?

Is it possible to allow multiple users to edit a single shared iCal calendar? I also want to provide different permissions to those users. Is this possible through .MAC? Is it possible on Mac OSX Server?

I would like 2 agenda synced through .Mac but it does not work.
I have 2 computers and 2 laptops. A very simple agenda with 3 calenders. Myself my partner and the office calender. I want to publish my calender and that of my partner. The office calender I would like to sync so that we can change the office calender at any location.
I set up sync only for iCall and have a .Mac account. When I change anything on any of the calenders in iCall nothing happens on any of my other locations. Even though the locations are registered as synced. I can see the sync wheel turning but at the end of it the calenders are not synced.
At this moment I fully understand the publish and unpublished calenders but have no clue what so ever what syncing does for iCall. There seems to be no functionality to it. It does not transport any calender info over .Mac. There is no visable check to see what is happening and the process of syncing is not transperent. Lots of my friends go to me for advise on Apple issues but as far as sync wether iCall or Addressbook I always tell them sync does not work and I have no clue why others have it working. I haven't met any people here in Holland either that got in working. I suppose with iCall you have to get third party software to share calenders editable calenders. Really hopeless situation, wish Apple would just have a manual stating what sync can do and what it can not. Hours wasted on this issue trying to get it to work.
Hope anyone here can help out.

  • Is there a way to copy an ical calendar and then re enter it in ical at a later date?

is there a way to copy an ical calendar and then re enter it in ical at a later date?  i am trying to copy my workout calendar and move it forward but i want to keep the one from june july and august of this year.  I guess techinically it is a recurring calendar but all the exercises recur at different intervals

If you want to share albums on dropbox or similar web services, set the album in your custom order and use the export command to a temporary folder on your computer. To keep the sort order, use the option to rename with a common starting text string plus an order number. Since you'll upload those files to Internet, also use the resizing feature to export in a reasonable size, not too big for uploading/downloading, and not too small if you want your relatives to able to print and not only to view.
So, you'll get a folder ready to upload and share via Dropbox or another Web service.

  • HT2513 my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas?

my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas on how to correct this?  This seems like a trivial error, but it's super annoying.

I called Apple and they said that they know about this problem.  It's a problem with iCloud which their Engineers know about.  (there was a new iCloud release, hence...)  No ETA for a fix yet.  I asked that this be escalated so Engineering doesn't put it at the bottom of their fix list.  I talked to a Senior Advisor and mentioned to them to have QA check their regression tests as this has happened before to me (the problem just didn't take this long to resolve).  I like to use green too for important stuff, so I've resorted to creating a new calendar using the normal calendar green for events going forward.  They could have picked another color besides green to have this problem with and I wouldn't have been so upset.  ;-)

  • Changing the Color of a subscribed iCal calendar

Is there any way to change the color of an iCal calendar that I subscribe to?  The iCal subscription is from another Mac User (iCloud) who published the calendar using a color that I use for my calendar and I'd rather change hers (on my Mac) than change mine.
Doing a "get info" shows the color but it's 'grey'd out' so I can't change it.
    Thanks

I can't tell you why this is happening, but I can tell you that I admin many different iCloud users. Some subscribed calendars' colors can be changed in iCal, some are greyed out. It can't make any sense of it yet. However, If you want to change the colors of these calendars, you may do so by logging into your account in iCloud. Get to the calendars and hit EDIT. You will see colored dots next to each calendar. You can then change the color there. Log out and refresh in ical. The colors will (eventualy) be changed. Hope this helps.

  • Can multiple users alter a published ical calendar/to do list?

two people , both with .mac accounts and used to using and publishing ical calendars, want a shared task list and shared calendar. both should be able to alter both.
    is it possible?
    thanks
    e

This is exactly what a colleague and I want to do - and two more colleagues will want to join in on our shared calendar and to do list soon . All of us have .mac accounts etc. Surely lots of people would want this straightforward feature too....
We don't, however, want to have to swap our .mac login details with each other. If I understand you right Gotham, that is what your soultion is. Thanks but not suitable for me.
If iCal can't do this, why not? and what can?

  • How do i get Thunderbird/Lightning to see my 2009 iCal calendar

    friends:
i'm using mozilla thunderbird and postbox as my email client. they both support the Lightning plugin which looks pretty cool.
i would like to be able to read and write to my iCal calendar from Lightning. i know how to create a calendar in Lightning. it asks if the calendar is on the net or local. if i select local, i get an empty box for the location of the calendar. i don't know what to put in it!
i've seen some notes on making Lightning talk to google calendar, and this might work, since i'm also using busysync to push my calendar up to google for my MS friends to read and write.
i also use daylite, which interacts perfectly with iCal, and i use missing sync to sync my palmOS treo to iCal.
    thanks,
