Ical cancels shut down

Shut down is cancelled or prevented by iCal. I close iCal. Before I can shut down, iCal reopens on it's own cancelling shut down. Only after several attempts of closing iCal am I able to shut down.

Hi ,
Thats happening to me as well.
Any ideas on it? You get it fixed?
Thanks Peter

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Close Safari before shutting down your computer. Also, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions and update your extensions to the most recent version, and if it doesn't work, open Safari > Reset Safari

Have you tried holding the power button down for several seconds? I would try the force quit as mentioned earlier first, or go to the Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities and try force quit there.

  • MAC warning : "The [AIRapplicationname] canceled shut down"

"The [AIRapplicationname] canceled shut down", this is the
    message I get when I try to shutdown/restart a Mac (OS X 10.4.11)
while my AIRapp is still running, which is kinda annoying...
Does anyone know what causes this message to popup and how to

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, select that application, and press the Force Quit button. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.

  • Apple Mail cancels shut down?

This is getting old, my Apple Mail, cancels shut down everytime I close down my laptop, I am running Mavericks and
don't see any fixes on the horizon for the good folks at Apple, any suggestions on how to fix this flaw?

Use the Window menu in Mail to open the Connection Doctor window and the Activity Window to get full visibility to what Mail is doing.
I often find the problem is a simple operation that is being handled very, very slowly by my ISP Mail Server -- the problem is not on my Mac. For me, the solution has been to click on the stop sign in the Activity window so that Mail abandons its latest attempts to talk to a reluctant Mail server, and then it will shut down instantly.
Your anger at Apple over this issue may be misplaced.

  • Forced quit not working as setup application cancels shut down

I upgraded to OS X and setup froze when I was setting up cloud storage.  When I try to force quit, the setup application automatically cancels shut down.  Tried Command q to try to quit setup, but no success. Waiting for battery to die, but is there another way? Help!

Finally was able to bring up the task minder and force quit.  Command-option-escape or some variation of escape-control-command-option.

  • Safari keeps canceling shut-down/restart.

    Hi folks.
I can't shut down or restart because Safari keeps canceling it.  Can't force quit Safari either.  Any ideas that don't scare the bejeebus out of a non-techie?
    Thanks!

12/10/13  Good morning Dominic.  I've had my MacBook Pro for about 5 years and this is the first time that I absolutely could not shut down.  Kept getting the message that Safari kept interrupting the shut down process.  I tried everyting I could think of and nothing would allow the computer to shut down. Usually I can figure out how to deal with a problem, but I was getting no where on this one.
I followed your suggestion from 5/18/12 and in seconds that took care of it.  I was able to shut down.  I wish I understood what caused the problem to begin with...but, that may remain a mystery.
I am always amazed at the great information and help that can be found from the Apple Support Community.  Thank you for your post!

  • Mirror agent cancels shut down

    Hi all.
On occassion when I try to shut down or restart my imac, i get a message that a mirror agent has cancelled the command. The only thing I can figure is that the mirror agent has something to do with my idisk. I signed up for the free idisk trial and am not using it at all. Is it safe to delete the idisk icon from my desktop and trash the mirror folder from my library?
    Thanks

    Daniel,
If the .mac syncing is indeed the problem, then try going to System Preferences>.Mac>iDisk and disabling syncing from there.
There are other ways to kill this process and I'm not sure if you have access to the controls w/o a subscription, but try it and if it fails report back.
    Good Luck,
    -j

  • Mail 7.3 cancels shut down

Every time I have gone to shut down my Mac Book Air that I just bought a month ago, it says Mail 7.3 is refusing the shut down. I have tried the force Quit twice and it still won't allow it. Earlier today I trashed two emails, it had an error rejected it and won't respond with any emails neither receiving or sending.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
This action will delete any custom Mail stationery that you have created. If you want to preserve it, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!! iCal keeps shutting down.

I have posted twice already, but am getting no replies at all. I really am at a loss what to do as I am not very experienced at all with computer problems.
I hooked my iPhone up to computer and when sync-ing iCal it came up with some conflicts that made no sense - such as Monday 22 June conflicted with Monday 23 June. I clicked on sync according to the correct date and since then iCal just closes every time I try to open it up on my computer. iCal on my iPhone is still ok. I have sent 'report problem to Apple' but this doesn't really help me.
I am hoping that there must be something I can do to try and resolve this. And I am really really hoping someone can advise me.
    Thank you . Linda

I think I have the answer. At the least, it did solve MY problem.
To restate, iCal somehow got corrupted on one of my machines. My iPhone and MobileMe calendars were fine. Over time, however, it became apparent that the corruption must have been on MobileMe and I eventually screwed up iCal on my three computers. I tried everything I could think of, including calling AppleCare, but nothing worked. I could delete everything related to iCal on the computer, and it would still end up crashing on restart. (Eventually I even screwed up MobileMe - I must have accidentally let one of the corrupt computers resync the calendar, which messed up the "good" one on the server.)
Finally, I went to the Apple Store and duplicated the process. I deleted everything and we watched it crash anyway. Curiously, the source files in the ApplicationSupport folder regenerated themselves out of nowhere. This gave the support guy an idea - he figured that the corrupted files must be stuck in the SyncServices folder/system. We reset that system, deleted everything, and now iCal cold start and not crash and not regenerate crap. Fortunately, I had a not too old backup of my calendar database, so it wasn't THAT hard to get current again.
    Here is what I did (on 10.4 - 10.5 is a different process - look here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627)
    1) Turn off .Mac syncing in .Mac prefs if active
    2) Backup or export Address Book (just in case). I'd tell you to backup your iCal database, but since it is crashing, I don't know if that is possible.
    3) Open the Terminal and execute this command:
    killall SyncServer syncuid SystemIUServer
    4) Remove the ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices folder
    5) I'd also remove all the iCal related materials. It is up to you if you want to delete them. Delete anything iCal related from the ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Preferences folders
    6) Reboot
Now try to launch iCal. If it stays alive and you have a backup, restore the backup. If you have a good copy on MobileMe, turn .Mac syncing back on and click on the Advanced tab on the .Mac prefs page and then click on the Reset Sync Data button. Choose to Replace your Calendar data on your computer with the data on .Mac.
Again, this all worked with 10.4.11. I don't know what it looks like with 10.5. I was afraid that it would overwrite my iPhone calendar, but it synced the phone and new calendar perfectly and I am a happy camper now!
    Hope this helps!!
    Doug
