Ical cannot create event in month view

iCal cannot create event in month view. Is this a bug?
I've tried double clicking in a day as I always did but nothing.

Ko be,
Application UI issues are in many cases, caused by a corrupt plist file.
Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • ICal problem creating event in month view

iCal does not allow me to create an event when in Month View. I used to be able to double click a date in Month View and could easily create an event. It does allow in Week View, but I like to use Month View. Anyone have this problem> Solution? Thanks!

I just barely had this problem.  I restarted the program and it worked.

  • ICal Visually Overlapping Events on Month View

When I move from month to month (specifically from March to either February or April), I am having events from both months show up in the date boxes, one top of one another. I close iCal, and the screen is ok until I try to move from month to month again. Thanks for your help!

    Greetings,
Thats sounds like a caching issue.
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • With iCal can I hide repetitive events in month view only?

I was wondering if it was possible to hide repetitive events in month view but have them show in week and day views. For instance, I have my class schedule on iCal but I don't want to see it when I look at the month view, I just want to see events that are not repetitive, such as exam/test events. If anyone can help, that would be awesome. Thanks.

    jk_baller23,
You could create a separate calendar for repetitive events, and uncheck them when using the day/week view.

  • ICal multi-day (not all day) event  in Month view not displayed over days

What is it when I have an event that starts on a Wednesday and 4:00pm and goes to Friday at 6:00pm (not clicked as an All Day Event), (in Month view) the only day showing the event is the first day?! Shouldn't it show it over the course of the 3 days!? Outlook does that (I can't believe I just referenced Outlook in an Apple Discussion... in a positive light no less). Is it a setting?

Yes, Apple any help for this would be great. The only way I've come to work around is to use multiple events. So for a flight out of town would be one event, and the return another. I would create a third event then for the actual time out of town. There must be some way to easily fix this.

  • Can I change the way iCal displays events in Month view?

I don't like the way iCal in the new OS displays events in Month view.  It's counter intuitive to have the time of the event be at the far right and grayed out.  I find myself staring and slowly scanning down the display just to find out when I have to be at an appointment.  I wish they had stayed with the other display, not only was it much clearer, it also word wrapped so you could see the entire description.  I have blank space at the bottom of the day, and at the same time missing information because of the lack of wrapped text.

    Hi Daniel,
The option you have there is to change the calendar of the event (currently the "University" calendar in your screen shot) not the colour.  It is the calendars that have colours in iCal not the events.
To change the calendar colour in OSX 10.7:
Click Calendars (in the top-left corner of the iCal window), and select the calendar by clicking its name in the Calendars pop-up list.
    Choose Edit > Get Info.
Choose a new colour from the pop-up menu in the top-right corner of the Info window.
To customize the colour, choose Other, and then make your colour selections in the Colours window.
    I hope that helps.
    Best wishes

  • Viewing events in month view

Here's the thing: I often have multiple events/appointments on any given day, and what I find frustrating is that I can't see all of them in Month view (which I use most of the time).
When iCal decides there is too much info on a certain day, it puts three "periods" across the top of that day's box. This is aggravating for several reasons, 1) I can't see what the missing events are w/o changing to week or day views, 2) the periods are all too easy to miss, being small and out of the way and 3) perhaps most upsetting is the fact that iCal seems to do this arbitrarily.
Some days will show as many as four items, while others will only show two before giving up and hiding my info with the periods.
Question: Can this be altered in some way? Is there a setting or a work around? I like to use iCal, but I am a Month view kind of guy. If I can't fix this I'll have to look into other software, and I hate to do that.
Thanks for any tips or info.

The only way I know of controlling it is to make the iCal window bigger. I don't like this as it takes up too much screen space, but when I look at month view if I see a bunch of dots I try dragging out the window. I think vertical space is more important than horizontal. I don't know of any terminal tricks to control it. You could open up iCal's property list (in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist) in the property list editor and see if there is anything obvious, but I don't recall seeing anything. If you are going to experiment with the property list do it with iCal off and make a backup copy.

  • Can't add an event in month view

I just installed Lion on 3 of my machines (2 iMacs and an air). On my one iMac I am unable to add an event in month view in iCal, I have tried every which way possible to add an event and nothing. However I am able to add event in day and week view. Also, when I go to add an event in month view while I don't get a response on the troubled iMac my other two computers show that and untitled event was added where I was attempting to add the event. Has anyone else experience this problem after installing Lion?

    Tim,
Try refreshing the iCal plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To get to the Library folder use Finder>Go>Depress the "Option" Key and select LIbrary. Quit iCal, drag the .plist file to your Desktop. Then log out/in or restart.

  • Adding event in Month view

Is there a way to go straight to the detail box when adding an event in month view? When I right click on a date on the calendar then choose "add an event", it just puts it right on the calendar, then I click that so I can put the time down, then only the small box opens so I have to click the "edit" so it will open the big the box that has all the options in it.
Does this make sense? Is there a way to right click a day, choose "add an event" and have it go right to the bigger box where you can finish all the details of the event?
Also I saw a reference to the "info sidebar" in the Mac 101 support on the website.
"In the Info sidebar, click the New Event text to display the text box and type a name for your event, like dentist appointment, band practice, or a birthday party."
Where do I find this "info sidebar"?
    Thanks all in advance!

    rtha,
Just double click on the day that you want to add the event. That action will display the full edit field.
The info sidebar information on the Mac 101: iCal page is in error. It used to exist in the previous version of iCal.
I suggest that you provide: Apple - iCal - Feedback

  • Multi day events in Month View.

Multi day events in month view only display on the first day. Checking all day event fixes this, but none of my multi day events are in fact all day. If I sync with my iphone, it does mark both days on the multi day event in month view.
In week view they display correctly, but I like to have the month drawn out.
I am surprised to come across this hang up. Other calendars I have used always displayed such events across the month view.
Is this a bug or lack of feature?

    Bug or design flaw?
Try setting it as a recurring event (yeah, I know, it's not a great solution, but it gets the job done)

  • How can you view multi day events in month view without having to check the "all-day" box?

I have multi-day events that I would like to be able to view in the month view.  The only way that I have found to do this is to make the event a "all-day" event.  Is there another way to view these events in month view, or am I stuck?

It shows multi-day events that are "all-day" events.
But for a non "all-day" event that happens to span multiple days, it only shows the first day

  • How to create EVENTS for a View Cluster.

    Hi Tech Gurus,
I have created a view cluster on 5 tables. I need to do a validation and this can be done by using events. But i am unable to create a EVENT for the View Cluster. Could anyone please tell me how to create events for a View Cluster.
Thanks in advance for your esteemed replies.
    Regards,
    Raghavendra Goutham P.

    Hello Pasapula
When you are in the View Cluster maintenance dialog (SE54) click on dialog "Events".
Below the field for the view cluster you have an additional field <b>FORM routines main program</b>. There you have to add the main program containing the FORM routines called by the VC events.
For example: I had defined a normal report containing an include with all the FORM routines. The report contains only the following lines of coding:
    report zus_0120_u1.
    * Common Data und access routines for user exits in VC maintenance
    include LSVCMCOD.
include  zus_0120_f1. "FORM routines for VC events
Now in the "Events" dialog of the view cluster maintenance you assign your FORM routines to the events.

  • I'm getting ... instead of events in Month View?

I notice that instead of some of my events in Month View I am often seeing ... instead, and I have to go to day view and back to get them back. Any ideas on how to stop this? I dont have a lot of events- no more than 4 at the most.

No hidden preference that know of. Maybe if you use week view rather than month view? I think, even with a large window, you won't get more that two all-days in month view.
I don't know if it will influence them, but you should use OS X Feedback to tell Apple of the problem.

  • Not able to create an event in month view of iCal?

I used to be able to create an event from the month vien of iCal, and it doesn't work anymore. Anyone knows how to fix this?
    Thanks

So sorry to not have a solution but I wanted to chime in and say "me, too!". Not only create an event, but I can't edit it in month view, either. I thought it was my entire iCal program, since I just upgraded to Lion today, but after reading your post I realize I can edit events in week mode, just not month mode.

  • ICal cuts off text of some events in month view

I've noticed that iCal cuts off the text of some events, while displaying the full text of longer events in the month view. For example, if I create an event titled "Test Event" only "Test" shows up in the day it's created, but if I enter "Longer Event" the entire text shows up, on two lines. These events are on separate days with no other events on those days, so there's nothing to get in their way. Why is this?

This is so utterly annoying- I never had this issue with previous versions of iCal, and I can't even run those versions on tiger now that I've upgraded. The tiger upgrade in general has disrupted my workflow much more than I thought it would-
Because of the way I use iCal, not seeing the full even title in month mode makes iCal pretty much useless to me. I don't want to have to click between dozens of events that begin with "Renders of" to find which set of renderings are due on which days. Nor do I want to go through and rename all of my "Renders of Levels 1a-3c" etc to make the titles more useful. It should just WORK.
Well, let me know if anyone finds a better way of making this work other than "resizing ad lib until things sorta show up"
