ICal cant edit events in Gmail cal

I feel like this is old news based on what I read already but it was all posts at least 3 years old and not EXACTLY the same situation.
I've got my GMail calendar tied to iCal. Changes made on on end (whether in Google Calendar or within iCal) update on the other end, but in iCal I seem to be restricted in a way.
When I create a new event, I can't get the dialogue window that lets me set details like time, event name and details. By default they are set at 12:00 AM - 1:00 AM, unless  I go to the Day calendar in which case I can grab the borders and drag to change the time. The text, however, is permanent in iCal. While changes made in Google will be reflected, once I hit Enter, the text stays.
I can deal with the fact that I don't get the dialogue box with all the options, since it is probably related to the fact that what I'm actually editing is my Google calendar and so I can only tell it the time and details. But what I don't like is how finnicky it is at even setting up the time (I *must* go to Day calendar and adjust it there) and that I can't change details in the text  without going in Google.
I've read that it might be related to requiring a 3rd party server but I'm hoping to avoid this.

I went back, fiddled more, and wrote the following... but NOW, it seems to work fine. I don't believe I did anything beyond restarting iCal again.
Of course, right after I posted that, I went back to iCal and tried again.
What I discovered is when I right click an event and choose Get Info, the box that normally pops up (with the option to Edit the posting) is showing, but way off screen. Its position is tied to the iCal window, so if i drag iCal way off to the left, the Edit window comes on-screen to my right. I can't seem to make it stick, though.
This is driving me nuts, like there's a preferences file that says that box should open off-screen and I need to edit the values or something..??

  • Repeated crashing of ical when editing events

Hi, new to this but looks good so here it goes. Mac in general seems to be playing up right now but ical in particular is crashing EVERY time I change the calender type (colour) of an event or move it to a new date or 'cut' it. No error message, no being slow just totally shuts down and then does the whole reporting to apple and relaunching business. Can't seem to find anything online that fixes this and has never done it up until maybe a week ago. Also got issues with my PPOE server if that offers any help!?
    Thank you in advance!

Find the latest iCal crash report in your Library/Logs/Crash Reporter folder, double click to open it (it should open with console.app) and paste the contents here. While you have console open look in console message to see has iCal posted anything there before crashing - if so, paste that here too.

    Hello there skier3,
You should be able to edit an event in the Calendars app by tapping the event in quuestion and then tapping edit shown here:
iCloud: Using iCloud Calendars with Calendar and iCal
Tap the event to display event details, including the name of the calendar that contains the event:
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Anyone know why I cant delete events on my ical?

Anyone know what I cant delete events on my ical?

It is obviously awhile back since the question was posted, but I ran into the same problem just yesterday. For purpose of this discussion, I will assume the problem is that of deleting calendars from an iOS device. You should be able to delete your own created event by tapping on the event, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the edit dialog window and tap "Delete Event". To delete your own created calendar, tap on "Calendars" tab at top left of opened iCal app (on iPad). Then tap on "Edit" tab in the dialog window that comes up. Then tap on calendar you wish to delete. Go to bottom of "Edit Calendar" dialog window and tap on "Delete Calendar".
The above directions will likely NOT work to delete a "subscribed" calendar. I tried, and the calendar kept coming back like a bad habit. It appears that subscribed calendars need to be deleted via iOS settings. Tap on iOS "Settings" icon, then tap on settings for "Mail, Contacts, Calendars". Under the heading "Accounts", find, and tap on "Subscribed Calendars". Then tap on the calendar you wish to delete. Scroll to the bottom of that calendar's dialog window, and tap "Delete Account". This worked for me.

  • Not able to edit event names in iCal

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I am not able to edit event names in iCal once they are created. I am able to edit all other items in the event, but not name. I have tried double clicking, using the inspector, etc. to no avail. Any ideas?

I tried getting rid of duplicates in FontBook. I tried deleteing the iCal.plist file and restarting my mac. Nothing works. I can not edit any entry in any way except to drag it to a new place. I also can't open iCal Preferences. I have iCal 4.0.1 - is that the current version?

  • Unable to edit events in iCal

Unable to edit events in iCal?
When tap event, just get details,
    Can't delete event

For the last 2 days, I have been having the same problem. I cannot edit ical events on my iphone, specifically those who habe been sync-ed to & from my MacOS (under Mountain lion 10.8) Calendar.
I have reset my sync history on the Mac (running the reset.pl script), but to no effect.
    Please help.

  • ICal crashes when I try to edit events

I cannot edit events in iCal. When I double click on the event iCal crashes instantly. I have to edit my events with my iPhone or iPad.
How can I solve the problem?  Brand new iMac with Mountain Lion...A bug I suppose?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why iCal cancel of event edits issue is still not fixed after over 2 years?

Why iCal "cancel of event edits" issue is still not fixed after over 2 years?
I have been in the software engineering industry for over 14 years, but I have never seen a large corporation being so slow at addressing major issues like these.
What would it take for Apple to start working on this issue?

Yup. This is fully ridiculous that you can't cancel your updates once you start. I love the tool but this is on pretty significant issue.
Sometimes I accidentally move a mtg or make some edit while viewing and you can't back you!!

  • ICal won't let me edit events

Recently I'm unable to edit any events in iCal. This happens both when I try to edit from my iPhone 4 and from my 2013 MacBook Air.
I am given the option to edit, the edit window comes up, but then the changes I make are not reflected on the calendar at all. When I try to edit from my phone, several additional events with the same title and information are created for the same date.
The calendar I am attempting to edit is synched with Google.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I did update from an older Mac. All of my calendars are showing up just fine, I'm just having trouble editing events. I can add events just fine from my iPhone or Mac, just can't edit/delete from either. When I edit/delete the event directly from Google Calendar the changes are reflected on the Calendar app just fine.
Additionally, I frequently have to force quit the Calendar app on my Mac due to either not opening at all, or freezing up once it is open.

  • Edit events in iCal on Wiki calendar

I know that it's by default not supported, the editing of events from the Wiki calendar in iCal, but still I wanna know if there's a work around.
Does anybody know if there's a work around, coding-wise, programming-wise or whatever-wise, to be able to edit events from the Wiki calendar in iCal?
Now I get a message every time I wanna edit an event that i can't edit it from iCal. But I want other people who sign up to the calendar also to be able to edit the events from their own calendar program.

    Hello there skier3,

  • Cant edit birthday calendar (read-only)

    Hello,
im pretty new to iCal, just started today.
i recognised it imports / offers a calendar for each location you have on your mac os X.
in prefs i found the additional birthday calendar option.
after enabling it, i was wondering why i cant edit it.
"you cannot change events or toDo in a read-only calendar"
i hoped the type birthday calendar offers my the option to use all inserts i did for all coming years.
any ideas howto solve that read-only status ?
    best regards
    fidel

    Hi fidel,
iCal's birthday calendar takes it's data from birthdays you put into Address Book. It is not editable from within iCal.
    Best wishes
    John M

  • I'd like to put an e-mail like a reminder in iCal, as an event.

If I used paper I'd be stuffing scraps into a datebook. I love Mail.app and iCal, but I'm extremely frustrated at the lack of connection between the two--unless there is a clear data detector (like a date or time or a specific invitation).
Short of copying/pasting an e-mail into an iCal event, is there an elegant way to simply highlight text, add to iCal and edit the event?
    Thanks,
    Amy
PS -- I'd learn to do this in Automator if I could find a way as well.

    Hi Amy,
The link between Mail and iCal is made by giving you an hyperlink on any recognized date within an email (and Mail is pretty good at this).  Clicking on this link will create an event in iCal.
As for reminder, you should give a try to the Reminder apps.  With this one, you can simply drag an email into it in order to create a reminder.  It will keep track of the email and allow you to reopen the email from the reminder.

  • ICAL periodically drops events

ICAL periodically drops events that I have booked into it.  Anyone experiencing this problem?

I've got the same problem, except I am synced through mobileme. I was working on my iMac (OSX 10.7. 2GHz Intel) and just watched three events disappear at once from iCal. Two of the events were in my 'personal' calendar. I edited these and set them under my 'work' calendar. Then I created a third event under my 'work' calendar. All three disappeared a second later. I have had this issue at least a dozen times in the past month.
The weird thing: the events have disappeared from my iMac and my MacBook Pro, but they are still there in MobileMe online and on my iPhone.
I tried this and it didn't help:
In ical, click on iCal menu
    Preferences
    Click on the mobileme account
Click "-" on the bottom (confirm yes)
Then click "+" on the bottom
    type in your username/password
    account type is mobileme
    Brutal.
    Then I tried this:
System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars
    Click on mobileme account.
    Click "-" and confirm.
    Click "+" and then "MobileMe"
    Enter username and password.
No bones. Then I tried this:
System Preferences > MobileMe > Sync > Advanced > Reset Sync Data
Replace all sync info on this computer with sync info from MobileMe
    Nothing.
Here's what does work. In MobileMe online, I changed the calendar in one of the three events back to personal. Then all three events reappeared in iCal.
I hope that this issue will be resolved soon.
