ICal Color Categories

I would like to see the color categories on the iPhone iCal that are available on the Mac and PC/Outlook. I use my calendar to plan a lot of activities besides work. Not being able to filter my calendar by category makes for a long list to sort through when I am trying to make plans (like trying to plan a vacation; lord knows I need one).
Does Apple have any plans to implement this feature?
Is this feature already available and I'm blind?
Where can I go to view future update plans for iPhone features?

Unless I am missing something the only way to color code a exchange calendar in iCal beyond the single "Exchange" category is to have multiple calendars... a calendar for "personal", a calendar for "travel", a calendar for "teleconfs", a travel for "meetings"...
That's not efficient and it makes working with colleagues difficult. It's very unfortunate... I'd soooo much like 1-1 parity with Entourage-13 so I can ditch it and use what's otherwise a very nice suite of Exchange-ready office apps. Mail and Address Book (including the state-level address contacts through Exchange) worked very nicely both at work and at home. But it seems I'm still Entourage's bee-hatch or whatever the hip kids today call it .

  • Color Categories in Outlook calendar

I see that this question has been asked before, but it doesn't appear to have been asked recently, and I'm hoping things have changed.
Is there a way to make the color categories from the Outlook calendar show up on my ipad calendar?  I have all my events color coded in Outlook, and the events sync without difficulty, but the category colors do not appear on the ipad.  Thanks in advance.

The iPad seems to assign colors not randomly, but in a way different than iCal.  There appears to be no direct way of choosing colors for various calendars.  To get the colors to match those on iCal on my iMac, I had to "trick" the iPad.  For example, I my iCal events in blue, holidays in red, and week numbers in black.  The iPad had week numbers in black, but events in purple and holidays in orange.  What I did was disconnect my Exchange account (thereby deleting all events), and then removed and reinstalled the holidays.  The new holiday installation came up red -- perfect.  Next I turned on my Exchange and synced my calendar events, and they came up blue.
Seems like the iPad assigns color in a certain order based on what's in the caledar already.  Turning on certain events in some order seems to be the only way to choose colors, and even then I don't know exactly what the order will be.  I think I got lucky.

  • In the year view, why is iCal coloring the boxes?

In the year view, why is iCal coloring the boxes and what does each color mean and how do we change it?  It makes no sense or has any rhymn or reason according to what is in my calendar.

By default it is colored by the number of entries for each day. From white for no entries through yellow to orange and then red for the most entries.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know what to do about iCal colors changing.

Does anyone know what to do about iCal colors changing.   Ever since ios7 came out I have many problems.  I kind of feel like Apple has become Microsoft at twice the price??  Anyway, today all my calendars (iPhone, iPad, iCloud and on my Mac) all changed colors from the customer colors I had set.  I have about 5 calendars.
I was able to change them back on my Mac, my iphone and my ipad, but not in iCloud.   Once each of the ones I changed updates / syncs it reverts to the incorrect colors again.  I have tested back and forth, and it is definetly coming out of the iCloud.com.  The web site will not let me chance colors, so once it updates / sync, all my other devices and calendars sync to the purple in iCloud.
I could go on and on about my frustrations with the apparent lack to testing, and the irony around Microsoft and their "bugs".  It is more important that I find a cure, as this is really annoying.
Has anyone else seen this today

Don't spend a lot of time trying to change it. It's an iCloud problem that's happened before, and when it happened in August it went back to the correct colors in a few days. Just be careful when you add new items to the calendar to use the right calendar (even if the color is wrong), otherwise you'll have things out of synch when the correct colors come back.

  • Shared 2010 Calendar Color Categories not appearing in Outlook 2007

I have a SBS 2003 (exchange 2007) environment wih a mixed Outlook use between 2007 and 2010. One 2010 Outlook client has shared a calendar to several 2007 users and they swear that when they received the email invite to view this shared 2010 calendar, the
color categories list in their Outlook changed to match the shared calendar without any interaction from the users. A new hire was given the same invite to view this shared calendar, she accepted, the calendar is visible however, the color categories
    are not appearing.
I've tried setting an appointment in the 2010 Outlook shared calendar with all the color categories in the list, then going to the client's 2007 Outlook and updating the color categories in her mailbox but nothing changes.
I've read about 20-30 blogs, tech form and MS tech answers on this subject and I get conflicting solutions. One states that you can't transfer the master color category list, you have to change it on each Outlook client while others state the use of an appointment
and upgrading the categories from the properties in the client's mailbox (which didn't work) or using a third party add-in to manage a "Master Color Category list" (which costs money). I would like a straight answer to my question, which is,
"why can't the Outlook 2007 client see the color categories in the 2010 shared calendar?" and "How to I fix this?".
This questions has been asked in so many different ways that I'm not sure if someone will help me without having to call MS support and pay for it. This has got to have a simple solution that I don't need to pay for it, yes?
    Anyone, please help me.....

Hey mate i had the same issue and was dumb founded till i came up with a solution that worked for me, and possibly someone out there looking for the same solution. Half the info i looked up was all bullshit and took me months to come up with a fix as
    im busy with other priorities.
still busy so ill be quick...and not gonna get too technical just gonna lay it all out in steps
    1. create a mail account in exchange eg.
    [email protected]
    2. log into the account through outlook and share the calendars you set up.
    3. go to the exchange management console on the 'server ' right click the created
[email protected] mailbox > manage full access permissions> and start adding the users who need access. (only thing that worked for me)
    4. close and reopen outlook on the users computer and then you should see the colour co-ordinated catergories that you assigned for scheduling that they can all access and book appointments in a easy colour co-ordinated layout.
if it dosent show up try - *on the users computer* start >run>cmd>gpupdate/force
this will force the update on some computer that didnt show up with the effect. only had this problem with 1 user and this fixed it :)
hopefully this idea helps you! as it did me cause no geek out there never gave me this easy fix option, instead right properties and blah blah blah technical crap that dosent work, wankers!
    thanks :)
P.S this worked between 2010 and 2007 microsoft outlook

  • IOS4 Scrambled my ICal colors

When I upgraded to iOS4, my ICal calendars synced, except for the color labels. I have several different calendars, and both my work and home desktop, and my laptop have synced the ICal color labels properly, but now my IPhone calendar is out of whack visually. I don't see a setting to adjust the calendar colors on the phone.
I tried turning off the Exchange server calendar, then turning it back on and the color changed, but still not synced to the other Mac calendars. Any suggestions?

I had this problem as well until I learned two new pieces of information that now have me happily color coordinated on my iCal, iPhone, MobileMe, and Google Calendars!! Yeah!!
    1) Colors on your iCal calendars can be managed on your iphone if you are a MobileMe subscriber. MobileMe subscribers can log into their MobileMe accounts, open the online calendar, and individually select each calendar in order to select the desired colors. This selection will push to your iPhone.
    2) Google calendars now can be managed within the above system utilizing the newer technology available for syncing with iCal. To do this, you must log into your Google Calendar and subscribe to the calendar you wish to have managed within MobileMe/iCal. Here are the steps for doing that:
    - Log into your Google Calendar
    - From the list on the left-hand side of your screen, select the calendar you wish to subscribe to
    - From the pull-down menu this creates, select "Calendar Settings"
    - At the bottom of this page, you’ll see several buttons to access XML, ICAL, or HTML versions
    - To avoid sharing your calendar, simply click the ICAL button listed under “Private Address"
    - A dialog box will pop up with the URL
    - Simply click this link to download the subscription, and iCal will take care of the rest
    - You can now manage this account color for your iPhone directly from MobileMe as well!
    I hope this helps!
Here is a link where I found screen shots of the process indicated in #2 above..

  • ICal Colors on iPhone

My computer calendar colors are not appearing correctly on Mobile Me or my new iPhone. The color selections on Mobile Me are very very limited, unlike on the computer. How can I get my computer iCal colors to appear correctly on Mobile Me and my iPhone?

    Yes,... how?

  • ICal colors have all changed on my iMac

When I turned my iMac (10.7.5) on this morning and turned on iCal (version 5.0.3), all of the colors had been changed. Before they were each distinct and clear and easy to tell apart from each other, now they all seem muted and when I look at my calendar it looks like one jumbled category of muted blue tones. The colors on the iPhone iCal seem to have remained the same, they have not changed.
While in iCal on the iMac, I looked in the preferences and the colors seem to have changed there as well...just a handful of similar, muted colors.
Does anyone know what is going on? If it remains like this, I am going to have to switch calendars as there is no way to tell categories apart!
Thanks for any help/insight you can offer me!

This is strange...I received two emails about two different replies but all I can see is my original message.
So to answer ssschmidt, yes, I do sync with iCloud, always have and have never had a problem like this. The thing that is most frustrating as this new color scheme completely overhauled my calendar, it's a jumbled, muted mess now!
gail from maine, thank you for your reply, I will wait to see if it clears up. I saw the post from last August but did not see the more recent queries. Thank you for replying.

  • Why are my assigned iCal colors changing automatically?

All of my designated calendar colors are changing on their own in my iCal on my iPhone and in iCloud. Anyone know why this is happening? I tried to change back, but keeps reverting to new colors.

I just had the same problem.  I went to the iCloud to change the colors back, but they would automatically change back.
    Here's what I did:
    1.  Take your calendars offline in iCal
    2.  Export the calendars that change color to the desktop
    3.  Delete the calendars from both the iCloud and iCal
    4.  Create new calenders in iCal making them the color you want
    5.  Import the calendars from the desktop int your new calenders
    6.  Put your Calendars back online to sync with iCloud
    Good luck!

  • ICal Color Coding for Family Members on on Master Calendar?

I have a very detailed ical calendar for all the family members' activities & would like to view them with a different color per person on one single calendar. I am not clear whether creating a calendar per person in a group will allow me to then merge them to see one master calendar. Perhaps I'm mistaken in how it works but I do not want to toggle between 5 calendars each time I need to schedule something. Is it even possible to see them all on one master calendar with the color for each person in their individual calendar retained on the master? Can they all be merged? It would take hours if not days to re-create them - I'd also like to be able to make them viewable by my husband. Thanks for the feedback!

    Greetings,
I have a very detailed ical calendar for all the family members' activities & would like to view them with a different color per person on one single calendar.
iCal allows you to add multiple calendars (check boxes). Each calendar can have it's own color. Any event added to that calendar will have that color.
I am not clear whether creating a calendar per person in a group will allow me to then merge them to see one master calendar.
If you want to see all the calendars at once to see where events overlap, etc. you check off all the check boxes and you see all the events at once.
In your scenario you would make 1 calendar for each person. Each calendar can be assigned it's own unique color. When you want to see what everyone is doing you just check off all the check boxes to turn on all the calendars at once so you can see the events all together (Holding down the command key which is the clover leaf or Apple key and then clicking on a check box will turn them all on / off in one shot.)
The "Master" calendar as you say is iCal with all the calendars checked.
    Can they all be merged?
If you have individual calendars (check boxes) and you would like to combine them you can do so by clicking on the calendar you want to merge and going to File > Export > Export. Save the resulting file to desktop. Go to that saved file and double-click. iCal will ask you where you want to put the events from that calendar. Choose the calendar you want to merge with and it will add all the events in.
I'd also like to be able to make them viewable by my husband.
You can share your calendars in a variety of different ways. In iCal go to the help menu and type in "Giving others access to your calendars" for a listing of options.
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I keep my Outlook color categories straight?  Everytime I restart my computer the categories are all messed up!

I am running iCloud on my Windows 7 PC with Outlook 2007 with my new iPhone 4S.  Actually all things sync just fine however all the categories of my appointments in my Calendar in Outlook change color when I restart my computer.  I have about 15 categories and I use all things in Outlook first and then allow the sync to put it on my phone.  I need my categories to stay the same color and stop changing everytime I open Outlook!
The odd thing is that when I click the appointment in my calendar and open it up the category color is correct but I have to have the category menu open, deselect it then reselect it and it will change back until I restart my computer again.  Argh. I use these for business so this is a huge headache for me to deal with!
    Solutions?  Please, Apple fix this!!!

Under Utilities >> Disk Utilities, you can search the drive for permission errors and then repair then (the button below search).

  • Color categories for appointment in calendar

I just got a new computer.  Was operating in Windows 7, now 8 with Microsoft Office 365.  The data, contacts and calendar was pulled over from my Outlook 2007 to the new Outlook 2013.  I love the color coded category feature I used to have.
I don't have an IMAP account for this email...it is not a gmail. It is a work email (POP) that i use Outlook 2013 for my email organization. From previous appointments that were transferred over - if I had a color category, it shows up when I open the appointment.
In new appointments I don't have this option.  Tag shows Low or High Importance and Private but that's it.  How can I get it to show on all the appointments I'd like to set?

    Hi,
From the description, when you create a new appointment in Outlook 2013, you cannot see the
Categorize button in the Tags group, however, the button is available if you open an appointment which is transferred from Outlook 2007, am I correct? So, how did you transfer the old data from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2013?
Can you see the Categorize button from the Ribbon if we change to Mail pane?
In addition, when creating a new appointment, please click File > Properties, at the bottom of the Properties window, try add a category by clicking the Categories drop-down list to see the result.
Please let me know the result.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 - Fix for Outlook's color categories??

I am an Administrative Assistant and handle several people's calendars in my office. Not everyone uses the same colors for their categories.
Since installing Office 2013, I can no longer:
    1. Change a color category without completely opening an invite. I can now only do this on
MY calendar from the calendar screen, without opening an invite.  I used to be able to left click a meeting from the calendar screens select category and change just one occurrence. Now I get this error message:
"The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook"
    2. Change a color category for a single invite that is part of a series invite. In other words, It's all or nothing. For instance, yellow is our code for a conference call, so if a meeting series is usually a face-to-face meeting, but one day (bad weather,
etc...), we need to make it a dial-in only, I cannot change the color of that one day only.
Any known solution to these issues?

    Hi,
Have you tried recreating the mail profile? Some users have a similar issue were able to fix it by recreating a new Outlook mail profile in Control Panel. To create a new mail profile, go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles and then click Add button
to create a new profile. For detailed information, please refer:

  • ICal colors on my Intel iMac

I bought a new iMac a few months ago. I am running Tiger.
Since i bought the iMac, i have been having periodic trouble with the colors in iCal. Every so often, i will open iCal (or another application will open it for me) and it will be completely blank. No Calendars. No events.
If i quit iCal and relaunch it, the calendars show back up with apparently no ill affects, other than that the colors all revert to what i assume is default. I then have to go back and customize the colors for the calendars again.
This happens about once every few weeks and is starting to become quite a nuisance.
Just as a side note, i also have a PowerBook G4 running Tiger on which this has never happened in over four years. The Calendars i am using i imported from my PowerBook.
Is this an intel problem, or something else?

    Do you mean iTunes 10.7?

  • Color Categories in Conversation View

I recently upgraded to Microsoft Office 2010.  I'm very excited about the new Conversation View in this version of Outlook, but I have one concern.  I have been using categories to sort my email into different groups based on colors.  However,
when I enable Coversation View, the color icon next to each category disappears (only the text name of the category is displayed).  Is there a way to display the color icon in Conversation View like it displays in the other views?

    Hi there,
I cannot reproduce what you said. When I enable the Conversation View in my Outlook, the category shows as normal. Have you changed anything else?
Or try to reset the view setting, you can find the Reset View
button from the View ribbon >> Current View.
    Sincerely,
