ICal crawling SO SLOOOOOOWWW! Please Help!

It's actually on my sister-in-laws 1.6ghz G5 Powermac, but I have run out of ideas to try and help her..
Granted, she has about 17 very full calenders, but there is definitely something wrong.... iCal takes about 8 seconds to launch, moving from field to field or date to date brings up the spinning ball every time. It's basically un-usable.. No problems with any of her other apps or with my brother's iCal under his user account.
On her side, I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Repair, and permissions, no problems found.. I've trashed all the iCal preferences. I've turned off auto-update on all calenders. Nothing helps.. Any ideas?
iCal 2.04, OSX.4.8, 1.6 ghz G5 1.5 gb ram.

Are the calendars hers? If so, are they published somewhere? Are they someone else's that she has suscribed to? Are they synchronised anywhere? Are they very large (as in many events, some of doubtful historical interest)? Are there many repeating events?
These are things that will slow down iCal. If none of them apply it would be worth turning off all calendars excep one, then quit and restart. If iCal then behaves normally, repeat with the next until you find one that causes the slow-down - bad data in a calendar can also affect performance. Alternatively, export all the calendars in turn, then delete them all and re-import them one at a time.

  • I just erased all my contacts on accident while trying to fix an ical syncing problem.  Please help!

    Hello There,
I have NO idea what just happened.  I am trying to stay calm here.  Please help.
I have been trying to fix the fact that my iphone calendar isn't sending info to my ical on my MacBook Pro.  I followed some instructions I found in a forum and then unplugged my phone haphazardly by not ejecting it from iTunes... I just pulled it off the cord and all my contacts erased in a blink of an eye.  Here's the instructions I followed.  Please tell me how I can get them back!  Can I call AT&T? BTW... the instructions didn't fix the ical problem either.
(These are the instructions I tried from http://iphonewriter.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-fixing-ical-iphone-sync-issues.h tml) I added my own sidenote in Bold.
Here's the down and dirty fix:
Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
Re-Open the iCal application and Import (File -> Import) a new calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier. Once completed, close the iCal application (you should have all of your calendar entries back.)
***When I re-opened ical nothing was gone but I followed the following steps anyways.***
         5.  Open the iTunes application and connect your Apple iPhone to the computer.
         6.  Within the Advanced section of the Info tab for the Apple iPhone, check the box the overwrites/replaces the Calendar data on the Apple iPhone.
         7.  Click the Apple/Sync button. New, modified and deleted entries should now be syncing correctly.
That's it! You should be all set and iTunes, iCal and our Apple iPhone should all be playing nicely as friends again. We've used the exact method to repair our own Apple iPhone at least once... maybe even twice.

    Hi,
Can't you restore your iPhone via iTunes and use the "restore from last backup". I know when I has my phone replaced this copied all my contacts (from my last sync)back to my phone.
    Hope that helps

  • ICal shuts down. PLEASE HELP!

Having tried to sync my iPhone with my computer recently I received the message that there were 4 conflicts. This did not make sense as I checked and there were no conflicts. Since then iCal on my computer keeps shutting down and I can't use it. My life is falling apart! Please Help !!

    Hi cpnbill,
Sounds like you have had some unluck with your board. Can you check it for signs of damage, there is especially one component near the PCI slots (I think on the edge of the board) that is infamous for burning out on the K8N Neo. Is there any component with discolouration or the smell of burning.
People who have seen your problem reported the following..
Near the bottom corner of the motherboard on the PCI slot side, right between the small capacitor and the orange PCI slot and also next to the green 1394 firewire headers there is some unrecognizable component completely burned to ash. Funny thing is the only sign of anything frying is the orange pci slot has black soot on the bottom of it but there are no scorch marks on the opposite side of the motherboard at all.
I wonder if this has happened to anyone else. I've never seen a non-capacitor component burn itself to ash randomly after 7 months of use without any issues/instabilities.
I'm really lucky this thing didn't fry everything. Hard to believe that this component litterally burned itself to ash on the motherboard and voltages to other components were kept stable until the component stopped working.
Very worthy of an RMA (hope you dont get a recond back)..

  • ICal ALL Events Gone PLEASE HELP

Hello... Need urgent help! One afternoon I was finishing up work and closed everything as normal... in the morning, ALL the events on iCal were gone... just disappeared. I have a blackberry 8350i and figured there was a mishap between the two so I brought a 12" I also have only to find out that all the events there were gone too; and I never sync the BB with the 12". Both PB's were synched with my iPhone without any problems ever. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks in advanced.

    Hey Ferd,
So you think there is something corrupted in the BB that made the iCal erase the whole 09? One thing is for sure, the data in the BB is intact. All events there seem to be fine and yet it won´t sync with iCal (I use PocketMac because when this BB came out there was no other option to sync with mac). In fact, I've been trying to sync with a PC but I haven't had the time to seat down to spend a whole afternoon trying to figure out Win Vista... so far "I think" I managed to backup the calendar and contacts but not really sure. Still trying to find an app to sync with... maybe that way I can make a backup to use with iCal. Do you know of any other way to sync the BB with another app in either mac or pc to do this???
I have a time machine backup from june 29th which I used this morning. I boot from the Leopard dvd and restore from that date but didn´t remember that the applications were on the exception list. One thing, though, when the restore was finished, iCal displayed the reminder window with a bunch of the events... but since I had no apps i couldn´t say if everything was there. My intention, now that I think of it, is to go back to that backup, find the iCal software somewhere and install it to see what´s in there. If there´s everything, needless to say I´ll just make a backup, save it and restore again to the latest.
I was trying to restore from .ics files but just realize they have to be .icbu... hence the gray.
Right now I'm downloading the Combo Update to see how it goes.

  • ICal/email alarm issue, please help if you can....

Hello. I am just starting to use iCal and have been setting email alarms to remind me of my iCal events. Here is the issue I am having, if mail is closed and the email alarm time has gone by, the email does not show up. Any ideas?
Another thing I noticed is that if I am on my computer, mail is closed, and an alarm time comes by - mail will open up on its own but an email never shows up in my inbox. Any ideas on this one?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Your problem is that the command you're trying to run includes spaces.
Spaces are used by the shell to delimit arguments, so when you say:
    script with command " sudo /Volumes/Adobe CS3 Design Premium/AdobeCS3/Setup.app/Contents/MacOS/Setup"
The shell sees this as the command 'sudo' with four arguments - "/Volumes/Adobe", "CS3", "Design", and "Premium/AdobeCS3/Setup.app/Contents/MacOS/Setup". It's no wonder it doesn't work.
You have a couple of options. One is to escape each of the spaces by preceeding them with a backslash. This tells the shell to treat the next character as a real character, not as a delimiter, e.g. "/Volumes/Adobe\ CS3\ Design\ Premium...". If you take this approach, though, you need to be aware that AppleScript also uses the backslash to escape characters, so you need to escape the backslash itself - the first one tells AppleScript to treat the second backslash as a literal, and so the shell sees the second backslash and can deal with the spaces:
    >do script "sudo /Volumes/Adobe\\ CS3\\ Design\\ Premium/AdobeCS3/Setup.app/Contents/MacOS/Setup --mode=silent --deploymentFile=/Volumes/Adobe\\ C3\\ Design\\ Premium/AdobeCS3/deployment/liteinstall.xml"
The other option is to use the 'quoted form of' a string. 'Quoted form' takes a string and makes it shell-safe:
    <pre class=command>tell application "Terminal"
set myCommand to "/Volumes/Adobe CS3 Design Premium/AdobeC3 blah blah blah"
do script "sudo " & quoted form of myCommand
    end tell</pre>
Depending on what else you're doing, you might also find it easier to eschew the Terminal altogether and just run the command directly via 'do shell script', but the same caveats apply.

  • TS3999 Argentina holiday link for iCal doesn't work, please help!!

İ want to add argentina holiday calendar to my iCal but the link on apple page doesnt work.

As you say the link doesn't work; neither does its originating domain alone. The note on the page concerned says that the calendar is valid only for 2010 and 2011, so evidently it's been withdrawn and not updated by its originator. I'm afraid that a number of the links on Apple's page have gone dead.

  • Syncing iCal+Google Calendar+MobileMe: Please Help

I set up the syncing through CalDav but in iCal it creates a new calendar (which is the Google Calendar). Would I have to delete my original calendar called "Home" and just make the Google Calendar (in iCal) my main calendar? Does it do a good job of syncing both ways? Also, if I do this, does it also sync through MobileMe?
    Thanks

I have the same issue.I have been using Google Cal for a while and we sync all family stuff on it. Now that I moved to an iPhone, I got it to sync easily to the phone's Calendar app which is virtually the iCal from the MacBook. I have been trying to get my MobileMe account to sync with the calendar from the phone and it will not. I spent about 1 1/2 hours with Apple's chat service last night trying to sort it out. It doesn't work. All the right toggles and buttons are at the right sport but MobileMe simply won't communicate with the phone's calendar. The Apple guy wonders if it's because it's a 3way sync instead of the same (iCal) syncing in different areas.
Did you get any other tips?

  • PLEASE HELP!!! Ical is BLANK!

Think I did something very stupid and managed to delete some important files which really messed up my Mac, but I have managed to import most of the files from my back-up external hard drive and things are back to normal... almost!
Problem is my ical has been completely wiped. It contains nothing. I was wondering how to get all the information back... will it be stored on my external hard drive somewhere (I backed up my hard drive and applications before I deleted things).
Please help, I am new to Mac and can't find where it stores all the files for various applications
    Thanks

Welcome to the discussions, Lanfears. The calendar files are stored in the Application Support/iCal in the Library folder in your home directory, so if you can find where that was backed up just use it to replace the new one that iCal will have made.

  • Lost ALL of my iCal Events -- Please help!!

I turned on my MacBook Pro today, opened iCal and ALL of my events were gone!
I checked both calendars, checked all dates in the past and in the future. Checked all the settings, etc. Switched views. Rebooted. Everything that I can think of.
The only thing that remained were the tasks, but all of the events have magically disappeared. Now I desperately need them! Ugh!
I thought long and hard about what I may have done to mess up iCal, and I couldn't think of a single thing. I do not synch my Mac with any PDA's or other devices. I did not recently install any applications that might touch iCal data. In short, I have no f-ing clue what happened to my iCal data! And I desperately need it. (And yes, my idiotic a$$ did not back it up.) Argh!
Does anyone have any clue how to recover my iCal data / troubleshoot this issue?
    Please help.
    Thanks!

  • Depair...need to reinstall ical tried eveything please help

    Hi there
I have contacted apple to sort out my issues with Ical, unfortunetly they told me that I needed to reinstall however I've only just found my original disks
I have deleted markspace sync, Ical and my preferences
I found the ical.pkt file on my disk but it said it was performing an upgrade??
Ive opened the ical after this install and it quit, which is exactly the problem I have been having that Apple couldnt fix
    What else can I try
Please help as I want to start using my new Nokia e61 with my mac and right now, I have a lot of data backed up from ical which I cant access

If you haven't seen it yet, you might want to try the move described in the post 'iCal crashes' in this forum. It seems to work! My iCal used to crash 1 or 2 seconds after I started it, and now, after doing the things described in 'iCal crashes' it has been running for 10 minutes... So I can't guarantee any long term success, yet.

  • Setting up iCal on the Mac OS X Server - please help if you can!

Trying to set up an iCal on our Mac OSX Server for just four of us at my small business. I spent all of yesterday trying to figure this out (i'm fairly novice), and I've had no luck. This is what I have done so far:
I created an open directory on our server, went into server admin -> services and checked iCal, open directory, and DNS (is this right?)
Then I created a group in workgroup manager and added the clients to the group.
I opened iCal and went to add an account. If i didn't put anything in the server details section it would just say that I don't have any configured principals - what does this mean??
Typed in the user information and copied a million different combinations of this in the account url spot:
    http://my.server.com:8008/principals/groups/groupshortname/. typing things like
    http://(my ip address here):8008/principals/groups/groupshortname/.
http://(what i think is my server address here):8008/principals/groups/groupshortname/ical.
and then it says server refused, or address could not be found, etc.
i do not know what to do. please help.
    thanks,
    ryan

Hello ryankarolak, and Welcome to the AppleBoards,
Setting up iCal Server is a little complicated in that you need to do several things in the right order. If you don't have DNS from another source you'll need good DNS set-up for many of the OS X Server services to function correctly. But I'm a little unsure of what your next move is since you didn't give any details about your server set-up or your office network lay-out.
You should be aware that there is an entire group dedicated to iCal Server here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1234
This other board is really the best place to search and find previous threads and post questions with the best chance of getting knowledgeable eyes on them. This forum is really for Xserve specific questions and isn't the best place to get OS X Server services questions answered - people will help out if they can but dedicated groups exist for some of the more complicated issues.
    Good luck,
    =Tod

  • ICal drop down menu is black Please Help!!

How do I change my I-Cal back to a color where I can actually view what is on the drop down menu. Right now when I look at it, it is black and I can't set the times and alerts and alarm. Please Help

I am also having the same problem and I have noticed that the calendar icon in my dock only shows the date in black and not the calendar background photo until I start iCal then the icon shows up with the background icon. When I quit iCal the background disappears again and only the date number is visible. Very odd. Both of these problems started when I upgraded iCal a while back and the problem has persisted for over a year now. Not sure what the problem is.
