ICal data suddenly vanished (unrelated to MobileMe issues)

I discovered a couple of days ago that my iCal events prior to August 2010 had suddenly vanished. Entries from subscribed calendars were still there, but no entries I had made.
Unfortunately, the most recent iCal archive I had made was about 12 months old.
I have tried restoring from iCal calendars in HardDisk/Users/yourname/Library/Calendars. I went back in time to this folder, closed the folder, selected it, and clicked the "Restore" button.
Going back to Time Machine dates in July, June, May and March 2010 has found no entries prior to August 2010; 2009 is also blank.
Part of the problem is that I don't know exactly when the events vanished, although there were events prior to August.
Does anyone know where to look for backed up calendars on Time Machine?
BTW: iCal was synced with an iPhone and other Macs using Fruux (http://fruux.com/), whose cloud is known to have had a series of problems in recent months. Could this be the source of the problem?

I have a similar problem. I have been using MobileMe to sync my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4. I noticed on Friday morning that all data prior to 6 months ago (23 Apr 2010/Fri) is gone, except for recurring appts (birthdays, mainly). MobileMe may have had something to do with it, but I never log on to the site, and I had not updated my MobileMe calendar online (or iCal on my laptop, either, for that matter). And, I also don't know exactly when I lost all this data, either, which of course doesn't help either the troubleshooting or the recovery processes.
I confirmed that all my settings (laptop, iPhone, iTunes, MobileMe online) were all set to keep all events forever and to sync all events. As part of checking all this, I got the message about updating my MobileMe calendar, which I did. I didn't lose any additional data. I am diligent about all updates, but if I had realized I was switching from keeping all my calendar data on my laptop to keeping it all on a MobileMe server, I wouldn't have gone ahead.
Anyway, a Genius confirmed that my settings all look good. I went through the Express Lane chat process and am now in touch with a MobileMe Senior Advisor. We'll see. I'm not especially hopeful but will let y'all know how it proceeds.

  • ICal data suddenly gone and iCal stuck on birthday subscription

I am on OSX 10.8.4 - iCal data suddenly gone and iCal stuck on birthday subscription - when trying to create events, or enter any data - the following prompt comes up "You can't add or change events on the Birthdays Calendar".  I can not get "off" the Birthday Calendar  - I can no longer access any of the old data or use iCal at all.
    - Any thoughts? Suggestions?

  • ICal data lost after MobileMe to iCloud transfer

Completed the transfer from MobileMe to iCloud and set up all devices..no issues there.
Opened iCal and found that the entries had all been duplicated - after deleting the duplicates (1st mistake) then found that after a sync - all was lost.
Luckily I had backed up before the updates - so imported the data back into iCal - but as soon as it syncs, it reverts back - no imported data remains...
Seems that the iCloud is overwriting the restore iCal on the mac....
Anyone else having this issue, or have any suggestions?
    DJ

The issue with the backup I had was that it was an "archived" export so I found that when I tried to import it back into iCal, it would bring the old MobileMe settings with it, which would then get overwritten by the iCloud settings and wipe the cal.
This is essentially what I did:
    1. Disconnect from Internet (so iCloud cannot interfere)
    2. Import archived backup into iCal (thus re-creating your diary as it was)
    3. Export each calendar individually (file-export-export = .ics file for each calendar)
    4. Re-connect to the Internet and on iCal app, ensure the account sync creates an iCloud ID within iCal settings (if not, delete the account and using your apple ID, create a "clean startup")
    5. Ensure any iCloud calendars are deleted (minimum of 1 must remain so I created "temp").
    6. Create new calendar names which match your previously used ones ("work", "personal" etc).
    7. Check that the newly created calendars appear across all iCloud devices.
    8. (Within iCal) Select file-import and choose your .ics file back up, it will ask you which calendar you want to use, pick the category ("work", "personal" etc) to which the back up applied.
    9. Repeat step 8 for as many calendars as you have.
    10. After syncing, all devices and the cloud should be showing sync'd calendars.
    Good luck

  • I am getting entries which are 'all day' entries duplicated 8 to 9 times. I have updated my software on the phone to the latest version. Entries in iCal are only once.  I have completely emptied my iPhone of all data. Has Apple resolved the issue yet?

Simple solution. Get a real internet service and not a cell phone internet connection service it was never meant to be used as the primary internet service
And how do you lose a home and job and be sued as you claim. What over 10 Gb of data? Give me a break
In my city small claims is $5000.00
And over that amount you can go to a superior court to have your issue settled.

  • View my iCal data from Outlook

I'm currently using iCal to manage my schedule. It syncs automatically to MobileMe, Google Apps, and Plaxo, and it all gets pushed to my iPhone via MobileMe. I also have a few ics subscriptions within iCal, but for the purposes of what I'm about to ask, I don't care about them. It's my OWN calendar data that I care about.
I need to access it from within Outlook 2007 on a government-issued computer. Because it's government-issued, it's a fixed image and no one can install software or plugins locally. So with what I have (Outlook only), I need to figure out how to be able to view my iCal data.
I know Outlook 2007 supports subscriptions, but for the life of me, I can't find anywhere within me.com, or iCal, any reference to what URL I would need to use to have Outlook access my calendar.
    Any guidance?
    Dan

    Hi dantrimble.

If you're found any solution ?
I try with sundird but icann't.
    any idea ?
    Thanks.

  • How do I reset iCal data in iPad?

Apparently, I screwed up by setting my iPad to sync iCal data in iTunes and also in MobileMe. So, it doubled everything. Seems as though I could get it normalized by asking it to replace all data with data from this computer but that does nothing. Is there someplace I can find where the iCal data for my iPad is stored, erase it and then re-sync? Some other solution? If I could just delete the date now on there, I could let MobileMe resync and, in theory, all would be well. So, what do I do?

Well, I can answer this one for myself. Discovered last night in the iCal application itself, on my iPad, through the "Calendars" button at the upper left of the calendar screen, that I had checks on all 3 or my calendars for "On my iPad" but none checked for "MobileMe". Realized those checkboxes explained everything.
At one point, I had all the boxes checked, so it doubled everything, once for my iPad, once for what it got from MobileMe sync. When I had just the "iPad" boxes checked, it would not sync with MobileMe. So, I unchecked the "iPad" boxes and checked the "MobileMe" boxes and everything, suddenly, was hunky-dory. iCal immediately synced. When I changed an entry on the iPad, it changed in my other computers. No doubling of entries. All was well.
I just had not understood what those boxes meant or how to use them. It does seem as though that could be a little more clear.

  • Lost my iCal data and bookmarks with a Time Machine migration

I needed to reinstall my OS (due to a partitioning issue). i didn't have room on my re-partitioned hard drive to restore everything, but I did restore my apps. No when I open foxfire I don't have any bookmarks, and iCal doesn't have any of my calendar data. Is that data stored somewhere else on the time machine back-up? Or did I loose it because I didn't export my bookmarks and back-up my iCal data before I reinstalled?
    Thanks,
    Nancy

none of user data for any applications is ever stored in the applications themselves. it's always stored inside user's home directory. that's what you should have restored, not the applications. specifically, ical data is stored in /users/username/library/calendars and firefox data in /users/username/library/application support/firefox. see this link for more info

  • Transferring iCal data from SL to Calendar on Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I'm having issues transferring my iCal data from my Snow Leopard account to my Calendar (Mountain Lion) on my laptop. Seems you can't just save it out as an archive and import it into Calendar any more. Same issue goes with the Address Book -> Contacts.
Can someone help? I looked at another thread but it seems no one has figured this out yet.

I am having the same problem.  I was able to have my google calendars that were easily set up through the delegation option.  Now, all the events have disappeared. When I go through the steps and add the other google calendars through delegation, they show up grey on the calendar side bar. Nothing happens when I refresh.  The calendars were here one day and gone the next. Very strange.
I would very much like the delegation option to work. I see that there are work arounds involving adding each calendar, but that seems like a lot of work.

  • Help I've just lost 8 years worth of iCal data

I've just lost 8 years worth of iCal data. Does Apple still have the  data? My HD died. My Mac mini will not support the new "Cloud" portal. Does anyone have any ideas how I can retrieve my data from Apple? Thanks

When you say "I can see all of my calendars", I'm assuming you mean in iCal, yes?  If so, my two suggestions would be:
    1) Go into Time Machine and go back to a date when you had all your calendar info, and restore the calendar from there.
    Or ...
    2) If you were using MobileMe, access your MobileMe account through your web browser, open the Calendar in there and see if there's any data in that calendar.  If there is, you should be able to sync through Mobile Me, choosing let MobileMe overwrite the hard drive.
But I'd definitely try Time Machine first.
    Good luck.

  • Mail in Inbox and Sent folders Have Within a Specificed Date Have Vanished

    Friends,
For the second time in history, the mail in my inbox and sentbox have completely vanished, leaving an odd hole in my archives. Emails from the previous two months show up, but emails from before this date have vanished.
Likewise with my Sent folder. I have old email from 2006 but it jumps from August '06 to May 2007! Where did the emails inbetween go? I have always had the option to NEVER delete sent emails selected, but somehow they're gone nonetheless.
I can't even locate email from last week, let alone a few months ago. I was lucky when this happened before because I had just backed up my Mail folder and contents, but now it's happened again! I've rebuilt the mailbox several times, have tried to reaccess my server, but to no avail.
I can understand a size limit on the server for the inbox, but not for the sent folder.
I've read the discussions up and down, but frankly haven't been able to peg anyone else's issue as my own when it gets down to the details.
    I'm running a POP.
Thanks in advance for ANY help.
    Kelly

    You’re welcome.
If the *.emlx files associated with those messages are gone from the filesystem, rebuilding mailboxes or re-creating the index cannot make them reappear.
There is no way to know what may have happened if you don’t know when it happened and what did you do that could have a bearing on it. What you mention about moving data between computers could certainly have a bearing on it when it happened the first time, but there is no way to know what the problem exactly was in that case either with the information you’ve provided...
If the messages are nowhere to be found and you don’t have a backup, you may try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Beware, however, that anything you’ve done with the computer since the messages were deleted may have caused them to be overwritten, which makes me believe your chances of recovering them now are pretty low...

  • ICal date in application icon in dock is broken

The iCal date that gets updated in the iCal application icon that sits in the dock is not working properly for me. The date is never aligned correctly. The black number is always positioned too high vertically and overlaps the red month area. I've checked iCal on other friend's machines (same OS, Leopard) and theirs display perfectly. Any idea why mine is out of whack? Please see screenshot below.
The same thing is happening to the calendar widget on my dashboard too, so it appears as though it's some system wide bug/issue.

    evolution75,
How on earth did you figure that out?!
I am a regular visitor to this Forum, and the problem you described is not rare.
How do I now go about removing duplicates?
    Just two simple steps:
    1. In Font Book, select the version of the font family that you want to use.
    2. Choose Edit > Resolve Duplicates.

  • Ringtone icons suddenly vanished!

*The Ringtone icon next to every "ringtone enabled" tune I have purchased from the iTunes Store has suddenly vanished!! They were all there earlier today! The ringtone row is visible but no icons! The ringtone "row" is visible ... but not a single icon. HELP!!*

There is a way of recovering Weather, Events, Lonely Planet and Michelin, although it may diminish the amount of free phone memory available. As this works upon both my E72 and E52 it should work upon E5-00 which is a similar S60 3rd Ed. SP2 device.
You would need to download and install this version of Ovi Maps:http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/software/maps_installer_3.04_10wk32_b03_s60_3.2.sis whereas 3.04_10wk32_b04 is part of device firmware.
It goes without saying that device needs to be "Online" with a network connection and signed in to your Nokia account, and if this procedure results in any issues a *#7370# or three key depressed power on "hard reset" should return device to factory fresh state:

  • HELP -- in danger of losing iCal data!!

No sooner di d I solve the issue of syncing my Address Book to iPod when I did a stupid thing. I sync-ed the contacts from my home computer, which does NOT have my calendar data. I wasn't paying attention. I only intended to sync the calendar/Address Book to .Mac. Instead, it iSync sync-ed EVERYTHING. That included an iCal calendar that had NONE of my calendar items! Thus, .Mac has wiped my calendear clean to match the blank calendar on the home computer.... But..... one option. My iMAC at work still has all my calendar items on it. Is there a way to force the iCal data on my work Mac to REPLACE what's on .Mac? That is, I need UPLOAD my iCal settings from my owrk Mac and get them back onto the .Mac server. (The very first time you sync to .Mac you get a window asking if you want to merge data, download the .Mac data, or use your data to replace the .Mac data. The latter is what I want. But I don't know how to force it to do so.)

I realized that you could "reverse" the sync flow under the "advanced" tab

  • Other data suddenly appears on iphone on itunes sync.  Resolution?

A significant amount of "Other" data suddenly appeared during the last iphone sync. Pushing iphone over quota. I can"t identify the source of the data.  How do I remove it to free up space?

I thought only I had encountered the issue
To figure out what kind of data has occupied so much space, tap Settings > General > Usage. If it shows apps, songs and videos that occupy too much space, then you should delete these files manually. If not, try SafeEraser to scan your iPhone. All kind of junk files will be displayed, let you remove them directly from your iPhone.
