ICal double click bug?

First, I hope I'm in the correct section to ask an iCal question
I know this is a picky one, but this drives my partner crazy:
intro: to switch from one program to the other, I click anywhere on the other program's window to activate/focus on the second program, right?
dilemma: I'm in e.g. Mail ... I want to create an iCal event for next week (I'm in week view) ... I click twice on the "next" arrow at the top of the iCal window (once to activate iCal, and a second time to advance the view to the following week) ... *what happens though is, the view jumps two weeks* ... because of this, my partner has missed three appointments by now, because they were scheduled the week after they actually took place.
I know, there are a number of ways to avoid this (the first click should not be on the arrow, check to make sure I'm on the right date etc) but, hey, she is an A-personality and want's to know whether this is a Finder/iCal bug or a function she doesn't understand or a setting that can be changed.
Thank you.

That is what is called click-through, and is intended behavior. Try this: move Safari into the background, then click on one of the buttons. Especially interesting, try command-clicking on a bookmark bar item... the bookmark will load in a new tab, but Safari will *remain in the background* so you can continue doing whatever you were doing while waiting for the page to finish loading. (Note that it's not the command key that does this -- that just tells Safari to load in a new tab. It's just how click-through works. Since you loaded in a separate tab without making that the active tab, it is evident you did not want to immediately visit the page, and Safari remains in the background.)

  • IPad's desktop-like select+double-click bug

Suddenly my iPad is not responding as before. It is acting like a regular desktop window manager!
Now, when I touch an app icon, the icon is selected. A thin line appear around the icon, like it would be on a normal desktop window manager. Then to launch the app I have to double click. The strange thing is that even if I double click somewhere else, it's the selected app that is launched.
It's exactly the same for the virtual keyboard. One click select the key, two clicks (anywhere) press the key.
If I swipe one finger left, the icon to the left is selected (and vis-versa).
What the ****? Is this a secret features I have somehow activated?
Is there any simple way to go back to the good-ol' multitouch interface?
I have tried to shut down and reboot the ipad (home-click+power 5sec). Nothing works.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Pire

You must have turned on voiceover. Either triple click the home button and see if that fixes it OR go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> VoiceOver and turn it off.

  • PDF file won't open with double click

    Mac OSX 10.6.8/Acrobat 10.1.3.
Suddenly pdf files won't open with a double click, I now have to open Acrobat and file>open.
Also, once they're open, they won't close by clicking the red close dot, I now have to go to file>close.
    Very frustrating!

Even reinstalling doesn't work with the standard Creative Suite installer. Except for the double-click bug, Acrobat doens't respond to dock-tasks either, like <right-mouse-click> on dock icon and select <quit>.
In this version of Acrobat, the repair function doen't seem to exist anymore. Sadly....
So the problem keeps existing, even with the laterst 10.1.4 version.

  • ICal - can't edit - double-click does NOT open previous event

iCal on Leopard now refuses to open up any previously made entry for editing. The new pop-up edit box is nowhere to be found. This is so frustrating! I double-click to my heart's content, and NOTHING is opened. My life is on iCal!!
Any similar problems out there, and solutions?
    Kevin

I am in the same boat. I had to import all of my caldendars of which I have many. Fifteen different calendars for different groups of meetings at work etc. So, I take the time to install them over 40 of them individually. Now, I cannot edit them. Most importantly, I cannot change the Color associated with it. I get the edit window... I click on the calander name associated in the drop down menu.. but no way to access a color choice. The color is how the calendar has visual clarity. Why did they take that away? The ical problems are HUGE and many of us migrated to it from other software calendar programs to the tiger version which was great.
They have lots of bugs to fix this. WHY NOT THE INFO DRAWER?!!! GIVE IT BACK

  • I can no longer create an event on iCal by double clicking on a time or date, nor can I double click on an existing event! HELP!

I can no longer create an event on iCal by double clicking on a time or date, nor can I double click on an existing event! HELP!
The only way I have to create an event is by using the "+" button, which is very limiting!
I am running the latest version of Mac OS X and all the updates.
Anyone know how I could get a proper use of my iCal ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you list the steps you have taken to fix this it will help.
Have you tried using the File > New Event menu item?
Have you logged the user account out/ restarted the computer?
Have you tried un-syncing any accounts synced to Calendar?
Is there some change made to the computer that may have triggered this?
    Best wishes

  • ICal 5.0 double click in date box (month view) doesn't create 1 hour long event anymore

Double-clicking in a date box in the "month" view used to create a new one hour long event.
Now, in 5.0 it creates an all-day event by default, and removing "all-day" results in a 6 hour long event. Anyone know how to get it back to the "old" way? really annoying to have to change it each and every time! Thanks.

    Lisa,
Here are some of the iCal event creation rules which may help you:
Enter a name, date, and time duration for the event, and then press Return.
For example, you can enter “Super Bowl Party Feb 6,” “Movie with Rebecca on Friday at 7pm,” “Soccer Game on Saturday from 11am-1pm,” or “Breakfast with Jon,” and then press Return.
If you don’t enter a time duration for the event, iCal sets the event’s duration to 1 hour.
If you don’t enter any time information for the event, iCal makes the event an all-day event.
If you enter “breakfast” or “morning,” iCal sets the event to start at 9 a.m.
If you enter “lunch “ or “noon,” iCal sets the event to start at 12 p.m.
If you enter “dinner” or “night,” iCal sets the event to start at 8 p.m.

  • Double Clicking Issue Feature Or Bug

    Hi All,
I've been using Mac's for over ten years and I'm experiencing an issue unlike anything I've ever seen before. I have this double-clicking issue (maybe more appropriately "accidental double-clicking issue") in certain programs.
In iTunes for example, when I choose File/Add To Library and I double-click the root folder on my external hard drive (which contains subfolders such as Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music, Applications, etc..) iTunes begins to automattically import EVERYTHING on the folder without my having clicked the CHOOSE bubble. EVERYTHING!
Either I'm crazy and I'm just noticing this now or this is the most annoying bug/feature I've ever seen.
The issue also occurs in Mac The Ripper. When I went to choose a Save location and accidentally double-clicked a folder that had subfolders in it, I didn't get the opportunity to click CHOOSE. The Finder just assumed that my double-clicking a folder means that that is the folder I want to select.
I hope I'm explaining this clearly. I don't know I never noticed this "feature" before!
Is there anyway to turn it off?

There isn't anything similar between the two in a hardware sense. The two machines aren't sharing anything. I only use the Magic Mouse with the new 27" i7 iMac.
I tried to reproduce the effect in 10.5 to see if it was indeed a "feature", and it is. To a certain extent.
At this point I've come to the conclusion that this is supposed to happen, in 10.5 and 10.6 (possibly 10.4 or earlier too) when a folder and it's sub-folders contain compatible files respective to the program attempting to access them. However, I don't think it should happen when a folder contains subfolders that have files that are incompatible with the particular program that is currently being browsed.
Furthermore... I'm unable to reproduce the same issue today! This new 27" iMac i7 has been very "buggy" across the board!
    Like for example;
When I first started it up, Airport and Firewire didn't appear in the Network preference pane in System Pref's. And it didn't recognize USB devices that I plugged in until I rebooted a few times.
It ran REEEEEALLLLLLY HOT! Hot like when you put your hand on the hood of a car thats been sitting in the sun. But today it seems to be running much cooler...
It also wont boot from any external hd or Disk Warrior 4.2 DVD.
But all in all it's still a pretty sweet, and crazy fast.

  • Can't double click on events to edit in iCal

    Hello,
I upgraded to Lion the other day and am experiencing a problem in iCal.
    (1) When I click on an event to open or edit it, nothing happens.
    (2) I also cannot add an event with a click either.  (Only with the "+" for the Quick Event tab).
The top menu options (File/Edit/Calendar/View...) still work, so I can edit or add an event that way, but not by clicking on it.
Is this a function of iCal in Lion or is something wrong?
Thanks ahead of time for any help

I had this same exact issue. Each time I double-clicked a song in iTunes, it would go into 'rename' mode instead of just playing the track. I finally found the cause and fixed the issue. In your System Preferences -> Trackpad settings, adjust your Double-click speed. If it is set high, lower it to the mid-range setting. After doing this, I was able to double-click track after track and they played as expected. In my case, it seems I had the double-click speed set too high and it just wasn't registering correctly. Hope this fixes your issue as well.

  • Are there known issues concerning double clicking in FF? We found bug 542068. Most of the issue we found have to do with Flash. Does it affect other applications (JSP/Javascript) too?

Are there known issues concerning double clicking in FF? We found bug 542068. Most of the issue we found have to do with Flash. Does it affect other applications (JSP/Javascript) too?

If there is a pattern of the application working up to Firefox 3.6.3 and not working starting with Firefox 3.6.4, there could be a problem with trying to communicate events between firefox.exe (which hosts pages) and plugin-container.exe (which hosts some plugins). You can tweak your settings to force plugins to run in firefox.exe to see whether this is the problem. This article has some background information on that:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
''Do you know if there are problems with Firefox 3.6 when you double click in a JSP/JAVA/Javascript application?''
No, I don't know. Obviously I can't read every post here, but I haven't read about it before.
Is it a stupid question to ask: why does that matter?? To fix the application to work in Firefox 3.6 and above, we need to see a page that works on other browsers and fails in Firefox. It doesn't need to be the whole application, just enough to demonstrate the problem so that if we solve it, then you can apply that learning back to your application.

  • Bug report:  double clicking a DataAction

following the information in the bug, here is what I copied:
    Message
BME-99009: An error has occured in the Java VM.
    Cause
An operation has failed because an error has occurred in the Java VM. The current activity may fail and the system may have been left in an unstable state. The following is a stack trace.
    java.lang.StackOverflowError
    Action
If further errors occur, you should restart the application.
If the error was an OutOfMemoryError, try closing some components, such as some diagrams, or increase the Java heap size.
Also, report the problem on the JDeveloper forum on otn.oracle.com, or contact Oracle support, giving the information in this message.
I was trying to double click and create the "action class" on a data action.

It appears that this bug is caused when a "DataAction" class is not assigned to the struts action. I created the class, inherited oracle's DataAction class, and then pointed the struts config to the right file. Now, double clicking on the dataAction gets the correct .java file to pop up.

  • I just started using iCal and I cannot double-click to add an event. Did I accidentally change something?

I just started using iCal and I cannot double-click to add an event. I could when I started a couple of hours ago. Did I change something? Can I change it back?

    Kristacattack,
The tracing results in separate paths. The straight lines show where the open filled paths start and end.
In the first sample, you may drag with the Direct Selection Tool over the top where the straight lines meet and Ctrl/Cmd+J to join the the paths; you may do the same elsewhere to create continuous/closed paths (hopefully, you will only drag over the two endpoints, otherwise you will have to find and delete superfluous Anchor Points).
This may be better than just cheating with the Live Paint Tool because the artwork becomes more coherent.
    Edit: Hi Monika.

  • BUG: Double click on taskbar will not restore LR

Only right click+"Restore" brings LR from its minimized form. Click as well as double click are being ignored. Using Win XP pro.

    Thomas you are right,
most applications accept a double click in the taskbar when the window is minimized. However the agreed intention of the Taskbar UI Design is at least to my knowledge to make a simple click to hide or to restore a window. Just take any other application and try to double click on the Taskbar button when this application is not minimized. It will close and instantly opens again.
So you are right that LR behaves different compared to other applications but I think that LR sticks perfectly to the taskbar UI design which expects single clicks for restore and minimize and not double clicks. I think a document which describes the double-click behaviour does not exists. This is "no man's land" so to say.

  • ITunes double click problem (query bug)

With the recent iTunes update 7.7.1(11), I noticed that when switching between iTunes (esp. when it is in the compact mode) and other apps, a single mouse click in iTunes is often interpreted as a double click. This leads to distress when I try to pause the current track as the double click action pauses the track then plays it.
To relieve this symptom, I need to minimize iTunes and maximize it again.
Anyone else out there with the same problem?
(sorry about the double post - first time @ the discussion pages)

i'm having this same problem, but the "auto" double-clicking happens in mac mail. i've checked mouse settings, i've rebooted, but nothing seems to help. whenever i switch into mail, my first click is always treated as a double-click. (very annoying, since it usually opens a message into an unwanted window.)
another mouse-related problem: sometimes my mac seems to be swallowing mouse clicks. (not in mail, though! maybe that's where all those lost clicks are going! <g>) my mac acts as if i am clicking on a dead zone (that is, a region that doesn't accept clicks). i can click on the region all day (e.g. a tab in safari) and nothing will happen. if i, however, click on something else (even, say, just the background of a web page), the go back to the area that was dead moments before (that tab, e.g.), suddenly it accepts the click.
    any ideas?

  • Bug - Double click to add audio tracks

Double clicking to add another audio track here results in a track that you can't record to.

This entry on Patrick Wolf's blog tells you the code you need. Very simple to implement:

  • Bug: Lost the double-click minimize, Mac OS 9 like collapsable windows?

I have no idea what happened to my system, but every time I try to minimize any open windows of any application using the typical double-clicking of the title bar, it doesn't go to the dock but rather collapses in a Mac OS 9'esque view that leaves only a slim sliver of the title bar.
The minimize yellow button does send it to the dock still, but for some reason, even with the "Double-click a window's title bar to minimize." checked in Preferences, I can't double click the title bar to do the same task.
How would I go about fixing this?

Appears that you've installed WindowShade. Deactivate it and all should be well.
