ICal drops recurring events randomly.

I have missed 2 bill payments now, because iCal randomly decides it's not going to show a random event one random month. For instance, I have a bill due the 8th of every month, the event shows up March, April, May, not June, July, etc. I had this happen a few months ago with another bill payment.
Is this something new? I just switched to Mavericks in February, with my new (refurb) iMac. I never had this issue running Tiger on my G4 eMac.
Is this a glitch I can fix, or is Mac becoming unreliable?
Thanks for any help

I have just 2 calendars - home and work (and 2 subscriptions - holidays and birthdays).
I really need to keep all of the recurring events (in their "original" form where they were recurring, but only for a handful of days - as opposed to now where there is no end date).
Is there a way to delete everything in iCal and replace it with the calendar information on my iPhone?
Or is there a way I can go back in time to like yesterday or the day before and grab that calendar (I have a time machine, but don't know where the last "good" iCal file would be).

  • Is anyone having trouble synching your Outlook Calendar with iCal on recurring events?

In my Outlook calendar, I created some additional categories for different work events, each with their own name and color on my calendar.
    Sync Services is ON.
When I went to synch my outlook calendar with my Blackberry, it looks like 10,000 or more new calendar items were created on my Outlook calendar. My Outlook calendar is a mess.  It think the problem is with iCal.
It looks like all of the recurring events were duplicated 10 - 20 times each, including holidays.
I have turned OFF Sync Services.
    I have two questions.
1 - Is anyone else having this problem?
2 - I have a Apple Time Capsule.  Is there a way I can go back to my Outlook calendar before this problem started today?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

All your computers/devices can sign into the same iCloud account and sync between them. It rather sounds as if you've managed to create two separate iCloud accounts. You may have a different ID for iTunes and have been trying to use that - you should keep that ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match and use the main iCloud ID for syncing.
On the computer which works, make sure you know what the login for iCloud is. Then on the other computer remove iCloud altogether:
http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmb1de40d9 and expand 'Turn off iCloud altogether'.
Now set up that computer with the same login as on the first computer.

  • ICal + Exchange 2007 - recurring events issues

    Hi all
Not sure if this has been brought up before, couldn't find anything on the boards.
Anyway, our client has 20 macbook pros all running OS 10.6.2. They also have an Exchange 2007 server (previously they had a 2003 exchange server and were using entourage).
The problem they appear to be having is when creating a recurring event they invite selected users but the invites either don't get through or upon accepting the invite it doesn't show up in the other user's calendar. I've heard there are some issues with iCal and recurring events - is this true or does anyone know a way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • AppleScript and Recurring Events

I'm trying to create an AppleScript that will, essentially, e-mail every event for the week to Remember The Milk so that, on the iPhone, I can pull up Appigo's To Do and get an overview of everything I have to do for the day-- both RTM tasks and iCal events. For all non-recurring events, I'm in great shape.
The problem, of course, is the way iCal handles recurring events and start dates. Because it considers the start date to be only the first occurrence of a recurring event, they're excluded when start dates are used to get only those events that occur within a specific timeframe.
I can get all of my recurring events rather easily (although if anyone knows of better way than +...whose recurrence is not ""+ I'd be in your debt), but I don't want to sync every instance of the event. When regular appointments are canceled/rescheduled, I don't want to have to change them in multiple locations.
Is there a way to get AppleScript to work with only a single occurrence of a recurring event? (Or, preferably, several single occurrences, considering that I've got anywhere between ten and thirty recurring events, depending on the week.)
I had the thought of, before syncing every week, deleting any previous occurrence of a recurring event, but the script prompts me for the number of days I want to sync each time it runs, and I can foresee wanting to sync two or three weeks at a time, in which case simply deleting the event doesn't really solve the problem anyway.

Several lines of the “broken” script seem to be badly written, for example:
set root_Folder to rootFolder as alias -- rootFolder instead of root_Folder
set events_Folder to events_Foler as alias -- Foler instead of Folder

  • ICal recurring events function broken

    Hi folks,
I use my Mac for business, so having iCal broken is a serious problem. I hope someone can help.
The problem has crept up on me, so I can't pinpoint when I started to have issues. It seems to be progressive in some way.
I've tried to delete the program and also the support files I find in Library, and reinstall, but the new install managed to find the old info, somehow.
I'm on OS 10.6.8. I've got reasons to stick with it and don't want to upgrade right now. I'm running iCal 4.0.4. I've done a Software Update. I also sync an iPod running iOS 5.1.1 (also up to date for the device).
My problem is that I have been having items drop out of iCal, randomly so I have a hard time seeing any pattern to the problem. The items have seemed mostly to do with recurring events, so let's assume that's been consistent. In trying to understand the problem, I've deleted iCal and its Library files. I'm currently having some kind of problem where the System Disk is being rejected (won't mount), so I can't reload iCal that way, though I believe I did do that some time back trying to fix the problem. So I have re-installed iCal via thumb drive off a second IMac running OS10.6.8. It "works" seemingly fine, but now the recurring events function is completely broken. I've tried to set up several recurring events to test it, recurring daily; neither one has made it past the first instance (nothing can be made to "recur").
Any insights at all? Thanks very much,
    Eric

I think the problem lies in icalx.com. It doesn't seem the server there gets a lot of real administrative attention. I'm not complaining at all! He's nice enough to offer this free to almost 100,000 calendars. But--it does make the recurring events problem a bit annoying.
I switched over to sharing my calendars via chandlerproject.org. You can share your calendars via webdav just like icalx and you can play around with some of the CalDAV features for free. (I'm not sure how long it will be free--it seems like an awfully nice service for no money!)

  • Why is ical adding multiple alerts to my recurring events?

I have searched for this issue in the support topics but can only find very old threads with links to apps that do not work.  My recurring events in ical are all of a sudden getting many many alerts added to them.  Every once in while I try deleting the event and creating a new one, or deleting the extra alerts for all future events and YET THEY KEEP COMING BACK.  It's super annoying when I am getting 10 reminders for one event and have to clear each one of them.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks Malcolm.I'm afraid this issue started for me after updating to iOS6!

  • HT2513 Problem Creating Recurring Events in iCal.

    Hello.
I'm having some issues creating a recurring event in one of my iCoud Calendars on iCal.
If I create a new event then go in and change the recurrance, time, and name it stays in my iCal for a few seconds then defaults back to a basic appointment with no name, time, or recurence. I then need to go back into the event and reprogram everything. It will then save the changes.
Its a little annoying as I need to reprogram the even and save it twice.
Has anyone had this problems, and could offer assistance?
    Thank You!

The same thing happened to me! I'm in another discussion thread about this and it seems many people have the same problem and it all started about a week ago

  • Deleting a recurring event in iCal

Situation; iphone 5 recurring event wont delete.  looking at same calendar on a synced PC (work) the event is not there at all.
If you are having trouble deleting a recurring event in iCal try this:
on your iphone change the event "alert" or "show as" setting on one of the events in the future.  The event that wasn't showing on the PC outlook calendar magically shows up now.  delete it from the PC by opening it and choosing the X delete for all occurances (if its asks).
Now open the event in iCal and you should see the Accept Maybe Decline option at the bottom - choose decline.  you may have to do this on several dates, but that should delete the event.
    Hope this helps.

    pedfogog,
... or whoever may find this post in need of assistance as I was.
I just had this same problem and successfully deleted ALL event (past and future)instances by :
    1. Click on any instance of the event in the calendar
    2. Select "Delete" from the iCal toolbar "Edit" menu.
    3. The iCal propmt asked me to choose to delete all or just the one instance.
    4. Naturally, select to "Delete all occurrences"
    I am running OS 10.6.8   iCal 4.0.4

  • When I update a recurring event on my iPhone, it does not make changes to the calendar in ical or icloud.  Is anyone else having this issue?

Updating a recurring event on my iPhone does not update the event in either ical or icloud.  If I add a new event on the iPhone it updates right away.  Is this a known problem?  Should I get rid of the recurring event and just make changes day to day manually?  I like having the recurring event set for my work schedule because it rarely changes, but when it does, I'd like to use my iPhone for the updates instead of carrying around my MAC Book all the time.
    Thank you!

After connecting to iTunes, I noticed that "Back up to iCloud" was selected (in the middle of the screen on the "Summary" tab, under "Backup"), and "Last backed up to iCloud" reflected the time that I attempted to back up from my phone. Even now, the phone still says "Last Backup: Never," so there is clearly a disconnect. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

  • Recurring events in iCal

I just had a ton of recurring events on my iCal calendar thorugh iCloud disappear. Any ideas why this happened?

  • Alerts for recurring events in iCal no longer display on iPhone after iOS5 upgrade

That pretty much says it.  I have a daily meeting in my iCal, with two alarms set, one for 15 minutes before and one for 5 minutes before.  The alerts no longer display on my phone after the upgrade.  (They appear on my Mac no problem.)  Has anyone else seen this problem?  I have notifications turned on for iCal , set to Alerts.  Tried badges, tried turning notifications off then on, to no avail.  It doesn't display for recurring events that were in my calendar before the upgrade and for those created after the upgrade.  I don't seem to have a problem with regular i.e. non-recurring events.  Doesn't seem to matte also if it is the default calendar or a different calendar either.  (I tried Reminders and that worked fine, but I don't want to have type all of my recurring events in to iCal and then in to Reminders as well....)
    Thanks very much

I'm having the same problem on my iMac (works on a different phone on my MBP). I restored the iphone and no dice. I'm also constantly getting a beach ball... Hope someone out there knows a workaround.

  • ICal 3.x .ics import - problem with recurring events and non-unique UIDs

Upgraded to Leopard over the holiday break. Under Tiger's iCal (v2.x), .ics files exported from other calendar programs (Outlook via iAppoint/O2M in this case) and imported into iCal behaved 'normally'. However, in iCal 3.x in Leopard, for recurring appointments in the exported calendar, only the last appointment in the series shows up in iCal (although some meetings show up for about 0.25 seconds during the calendar import, then immediately disappear! This post by MalcolmS provided the critical clue - it seems that for recurring events, the .ics file has all of the events in the series with the same UID. Previous versions of iCal didn't care, but v3 apparently does - and deletes all earlier versions of the event, leaving only the last one with that UID. I confirmed that is the case by opening the .ics file in Word, which clearly showed all of the recurring events, and all the events in a series (e.g. a weekly meeting for the year) had the same UID. After the import to iCal, only the last one is in the calendar (in the above example, the one meeting of the series occurring in the last week of December). Manually editing the UIDs of a recurring series in the .ics file (to make them actually unique) allows them to all show up in iCal after import.
Since many of the events in my Outlook calendar are accepted invites for recurring appointments, re-creating them as individual calendar events in Outlook is not a viable option. The frequency of changes to my calendar means I usually export it once per day (or twice); thus, manually editing the .ics files is also not a viable option.
Any suggestions on workarounds for this problem? Alternatively, any other suggestions for getting the calendar data from Outlook into iCal?
    Thanks in advance!

Moot point, as direct iPhone access to the Exchange server is now supported by our IT department.

  • Why don't' some recurring events in iCal synch via iCloud with my iPad2

This may be a question better asked on the iCloud community, but I already have something similar there.
Not all of my recurring events sych via the iCloud with my Mac and IOS devices. For example, my anniversary appears on my Mac and my iPhone, but not on my iPad2.
I notice that when I click on "Calendars" when the iCal app is open in my iPhone I get 2 lists of calendars - one that is labled "On my iphone" and the other that is labled "iCloud". The same two lists appear in the iCal app on my Mac. But on my iPad2 the only list that appears is "iCloud".
Can anyone help with this issue?

Here's somthing Apple suggested to me for some problems I was having that was related to the basic features of the iPhone. Connect the iPhone to your Mac, launch iTunes and.....
1 - backup your iPhone to your computer
2 - restore the iPhone to factory settings.
    3 - restore the backup.

  • ICal + Exchange 2007 Recurring events issue

When creating a recurring event in OUTLOOK (on Windows) the following happens in my iCal.
    1. The first instance is placed at the right time and day.
    2. The first recurrence happens at the right time on the FOLLOWING day.
    3. Remaining recurrences happen as per the repeat cycle (weekly etc) based upon the first recurrence.
I.E. adding a repeating event on TUES@0900 result in the following events in iCal (TUES@900, WED@900, repeating event every folloiwng WED@0900).
In every other application i use to view the calendar it works fine (Outlook, Entourage, Web-based) just in iCal the event is out.
Anyone seen this. I have not been able to find reference to this one.

  • Can iCal show all recurring events?

I have a bunch of recurring events throughout the year in iCal, and I'd like to see a list of them.  Or at least, find them one by one, to see what's there (and what isn't).  Is there some way I can do a search that shows me a list of only the recurring events?

    Hi Roger,
Put a " in the search box works (for some reason). iCal's search is done by Spotlight. It can take a little while if you have a lot of events.
    Best wishes
