ICal duplicating All Day events.

I sync my iPhone via USB (not iCloud) with my Mac.
Every now and then if I go through my historical iCal entries, I've noticed that quite a few All Day Events have replicated itself. Some twice whilst others can be replicated up to ten times or more.
This raises the need to indulge in a 'new hobby' of scanning iCal regularly to remove the duplicates manually. In spite of this, iCal persists to replicate some All Day events.
There doesn't appear to be a definite pattern to its replication because it replicates All Day events from more than one Calendar and does so on every other All Day event resulting in what appears to be a randomised replication.
I have no plugins or third party apps which integrate to iCal. For all intents and purposes (to my knowledge) my iCal is stock standard.
Does anyone know what causes this and how to stop it once and for all?
Thanks in advance!!

Try opening isync from your applications folder.
When isync opens, open the isync preferences.
In the isync preferences, click the button to reset sync history.
Once the sync history is reset, quit isync and try syncing the iphone again.
If this does not work, go into the entourage preferences and stop entourage from syncing with ical.
Export all events from ical and clear out any calendars.
Now create a new event in ical and try syncing just that event to the iphone.
If that event syncs ok, go back into the entourage preferences and enable syncing with ical again.
Now try syncing with the iphone.
Hope this helps.

  • ICAL REPEATING ALL DAY EVENTS

When I put an all day event in it repeats the same event in the next week. Can anyone assist with a solution. Cheers

Exact same problem here. December 13th of 2010 has an infinite number of all-day birthday events on it. No matter how many I delete, new ones keep appearing.

  • IPhone 4 calendar entries get duplicated for all day events

    Hi all,
A new one, I have an iPhone 4 which is duplicating all day events for no reason. You can delete one of the events and then it promptly shows up again. The other two all day events for the same item can not be edited or deleted. They originally where doing the same thing on the Mac but I resolved that by following Apple's support info on deleting the cache and resetting sync history. The Mac shows the correct calendar info just the iPhone is doing the duplicates. I've removed the iPhone calendar and then added it back to the iPhone to have the same thing happen. I've also copied all calendar info to a new calendar, removed the old one from iCal and the phone and synced the new one to have the same thing happen again. I am not using Mobile Me, never have and don't have an account so it's not that.

    Angus,
I've found a solution that worked for me. I hope it works for you too:
    1. Make a backup of your Mac iCal. (It's not a step to recover the data in case something go wrong, we'll need the backup file for sure)
    2. Download iCal Dupe Deleter from http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
    3. Run iCal Dupe Deleter and select the calendar in wich you have the duplicated events. Then press the "Test selected calendar" button.
    4. If the app finds any duplicates, another button will appear. Press it and follow the steps.
    5. Once iCal Dupe Deleter has opened iCal and restored the data with the new one, load the backup file that you saved on step 1 and restore.
    6. Sync your iPhone with iTunes as you usually do and your iPhone calendar will be perfect again.
Please, let me know if it works for you.

  • How do I expand the view of all day events in iCal?

I am unable to find an answer to this question any where.  Is it possible to expand the area in iCal where all day events appear in the day and week views?

Did you ever get an answer on this?  I can see everything in the DAY view but need to see the all day events in the week view.  I have events that start on say the 15th and run to the 21st.  I've started putting the end date in the location field but it was so much nicer when the all day even portion expanded to allow you to see all of them without having to scroll.  Having to use the DAY view makes it really hard to schedule.  Any chance this will change in the new version?

  • All day events not showing up in iCal

On my iMac I cannot enter an all day event in iCal.  All day events entered via my iPhone or Mobile Me also do not show up on the iMac.  Just upgraded to Lion, no problem before this!

    Hi Linda,
Open iCal and from the View menu check that Show All-Day Events is checked.
    Best wishes

  • In ICal is there a way to see all of the text in all day events on the month view of the calendar.  Seems to wrap text only if there is a time on the event

In ICal is there a way to see all of the text in all day events on the month view of the calendar?  Seems to wrap text only if there is a time on the event

The paths won't agree on the two OSs so a simple XML import isn't likely to work.
See Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers and, if needed, Make a split library portable. The techniques in the first link will work when moving the library between Windows and OS X as long as the library is "portable", but iTunes takes quite some time checking the database when the library is opened under a different OS.

  • ICal "all day events" separator bar

Is it possible to adjust the "all day events" separator bar in iCal in the Daily or Weekly view.  When you have more than 6 all day events on one day a scroll bar appears, and it's not possible to view all of the all day events at once.  I know that this sounds like nit-picking, but I've developed a work-flow where I would like to look at all of the informaiton at once without extra clicks or scrolls, or to glance at the information without having to bring the application to the surface, or make it the active application.
Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the separator bar to allow the user to see more then 6 all day events in the weekly or daily iCal views
Another ideal solution would be additions to the View or the Preference options that would allow the user to view all of the "all day events" and have the separator bar automatically adjust.
    thanks,

I agree with you...  this used to be a flexible field and would handle infinate "all day" events.    To answer your question...  no, you cannot adjust this field.  I too use this for business and really need to view all the "all day" events.  I've been forced to use the daily view and put a date notation in the "location" field to know when the event ends.  It's the only way to see everything.
I found a nice little calendar program SaiSuke but Apple doesn't play well with others.  You can enter into the iCal or iCloud calendar program and it will seemlessly appear through iCloud into the SaiSuke calendar.  But Apple will not release the information allowing SaiSuke to talk back to iCloud.
Basically what I'm saying is it's a one way conversation between SaiSuke & iCloud, it can bring data in but not return data back.  So if you enter a new event in SaiSuke it will not be anywhere other than the iPhone or iPad you entered it on, it cannot make it back to iCloud without plugging your phone in and doing a manual Sync.  Of course this process will produce duplicate events.
So unless someone out there has more knowledge ...  and you want to have your events be the same on multiple platforms (phone, pad & desktop) we are stuck with using their iCal product.  Apple calls this progress.

  • Why is ical creating unwanted alerts for all-day events?

If anyone can point to what might be going wrong here I'd be grateful. This is becoming a daily irritant. I have a number of all-day events listed for most week days in my diary which help me to know what is happening that day with childcare for my son. I don't need alerts to be reminded of these - they are just notes I put to myself in adavnce that let me know how my day is configured. Now, I sync my ical from my home imac to my work imac, my macbook, my iphone and my ipad. On none of these devices do I have default alerts set. I never set any alerts for any of these 'events'. But then, at 9am the day before each one I get an alert. In fact, I get a 9am alert for any all-day event, regardless of whether I set an alert for then, or at all. As I say, I've checked all devices and the default alert a=on all is set to 'none'. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I stop it?

Thanks Malcolm.I'm afraid this issue started for me after updating to iOS6!

  • All day events in iCal on 3Gs w/ iOS 4.0.2 show up day early in List view

For some reasons, all day events on my Calendar (iCal synced via MobileMe) are showing up a day earlier on my iPhone, but only when I use List view. They appear fine when I use iCal on my MBP or iMac. This happens with all day events on my calendars and subscribed calendars (e.g., birthdays).
If I tap on an event in the Day or Month view, the correct date is listed. If I tap on it in the List view, the day before is listed as the date.
What in the heck is going wrong here?

I am having the same problem. I have tried different scenarios and it looks like its an issue with syncing from MobileMe. I thought I had it beat when I saw my preferences for in iCal were set to to start at 8AM and end at 6PM. I made it Midnight to Midnight but that did not fix it.
I am perplexed - has to be a bug!

  • Why is ical automatically setting new events as "all day" events in Lion

After upgrading to Lion, everytime I add a new event in the Month panel it automatically selects the "all day" checkbox.  It didn't used to do this and it's kind of annoying....anybody else?

    Gustlock,
Default event creation in Month view results in an all day event.
Lion iCal Help (Add events to a calendar) says: "Add a new event in Month view by double-clicking within the day you want the event to appear. Enter a name and time duration for the event in the event’s title field, and then press Return."
So, in your case try entering "Meeting at 9am"...that will create a one hour event named Meeting.
Lion iCal data detectors are supposed to make entry easier??

  • How do I control the order of all day events in iCal?

How do I control the order of all day events in iCal?  Even if I painstakingly try to
re-order the events the way I want them, when they print, they are in a different order.
I have searched other forums and no one seems to have an answer to this.  Has
    anyone found the solution?  Thanks!

I also have this issue, where the events in iCal change when viewing in print preview or printing. I even notice they will switch if I try to print again??!!! I am using different calendars to show different colours. and they are setup on iCloud not on my mac.
it is becomign frustrating when I print 2 months worth and ssome events are correct in order and alas some will change when I print again!
    Can anyone help please?
    thanks

  • All day events do not appear in iCal 5.0

Even if I enter a new all day event in iCal, it disappears right away, but it is still synced to MobileMe. So on my iPhone/iPad, they're all there. but iCal stays "clear"... anyone having the same issue?

    Hi,
Have you made sure that Show All-Day Events under iCal's View menu is checked?
    Best wishes

  • Using iCal on iPhone in Day view - How can I move divider to give more space to all-day events?

I am using iCal on an iPhone
I would like to move the divider that seperates all-day events from the timed events. I would like to view with more room for all-day events and less room for timed events. How can I do this?

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

  • "All-day" events in iCal appear one day early in week-view on iPad

Just got an iPad and synced with iCal. I noticed that "all day" events appear correctly in day-view and month-view, but in week-view, they are shifted one day earlier. But if I choose to edit such an event, the information is still correct, e.g. an all-day event for Monday, May 31 and Tuesday, June 1, has that information, and it appears on Monday and Tuesday in day- and month-view, but in week-view, it has "slid left" such that it appears on Sunday and Monday. Anyone else seeing this? Any solutions?

I have the same issue on all day events synced from Exchange. The items look fine in the day or month view.

  • ICal all-day event problem

iCal on my iPad worked fine for a while. Now, many of my all day events (but not all of them) are showing up a day early on my iPad on week view. Everything is fine on all other devices (iPhone, MacBook) and all is fine on iPad on day, month and list view. All timed events are in the right place. But all day events in week view are a disaster and turning off the iPad isn't helping. Any advice?

Did you travel out of your home time zone and first notice the problem then? I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Apple Care while I was in the Central zone (I live in Eastern) and nothing the supervisor suggested worked (deleting the account, resetting, turning ipad off, etc). They'd bumped me up to a supervisor because the regular guy had no idea. Supervisor said no one on the internal tech board had seen that particular problem. The final assumption was it was a software glitch on my ipad--the advice was a complete restore which was going to have to wait until I returned home because he said it would take too long over the Verizon mi-fi I was using while traveling. Anyway--I got home to Eastern time, immediately pulled out the ipad to do the restore and all the all-day events were in the right place and have remained in the right place since then. My best guess is that it's a time zone issue but it doesn't make much sense. All my timed events stayed right where they were supposed to be the whole time (time zone support turned off).
