Ical-email reminders sent late/post event

this is inconsistent, but ical often sends email reminders AFTER the date of the event - sometimes i set it for 3 days before & i get it the day after - no, my computer has not been asleep or off for those days... i am guessing this happens at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the time - help???

if ical is closed or the computer is in sleep mode, does that mean it won't send?
Yes. The application has to be running and your computer needs to be "awake" for anything to happen. It's not possible to take any action when your computer isn't in a state to take the action. That doesn't mean your screen needs to be lit; it can be blacked out by the screen saver after a few minutes of inactivity.
You can use an alarm, if you're at the computer, but the point of using the feature you describe is avoid having to be at your computer to make it happen. I've never used the feature, but I'm sure Apple tested it beforehand. Even so, you should test it by using it to send emails to one of your email accounts (not the one you're sending from) before using it for something important.

  • What determines the address iCal email reminders are sent from?

*What determines the address iCal email reminders +are sent from+?*
On our g4 iMac, running Tiger, my wife has multiple pop3 email accounts. 6 to be exact.
She only has one address listed in her address book, and that is her own main primary address.
She recently started using iCal email reminders for reoccurring events. At first she was getting emails from her main address mailed to her main address. Works as planned.
But recently, she is getting reminders emailed to her main address send from one of her other POP 3 email accounts. This is not desirable. She needs them to come from her main address, the one that is her primary account and is listed in the address book. She is not sure what caused this change or why.
So the question is, what determines the address the email reminder is sent from and how can you change this to another address.
    THX

Yes, that's what I thought too.
There is only one address besides the "APPLE" card in her book, and that is her primary address, and unfortunately, NOT the one her reminders are coming from.

  • ICal email reminders late

I used iCal for years on my old MacBook Pro, but since purchasing my new MacBook Pro, the email reminders I set up in iCal are being delivered a week late.  Not sure what's up with that.
    TIA,
    RS

Yeah, same problem here. Used to work fine, but since I switched to Leopard (10.5.2), it hasn't worked yet. Mail sends emails fine, but doesn't via iCal. Not sure how to test or troubleshoot this besides using test events.
Anyone know of an iCal log somewhere?
    Thanks,
(Ha! Mail just crashed, as I was typing this. I think I'll stick with Entourage. Anyway of telling iCal to use Entourage?)
(Maybe I'll just set up a Google Calendar and sync to that and have Google email me reminders. Jeez...)

  • Ical email reminders get marked as junk

I have many repeating (weekly) email reminders set up in ical and every time one is sent Mail marks it as junk. I have my junk rules set up to allow email addresses from my address book (which has me in it). Am I doing something wrong? Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
However, when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep, the networking shuts down, and no emails are sent until I get to work and wake it up.
Hm. True enough. It wouldn't be asleep if it was still sending out emails in the background
    1) Is there a way to get iCal to send out reminders when the computer is sleeping?
No way that I know. Sleep by definition means the computer's functions are suspended. The system would have to wake, spinning up the hard drive and loading the OS so that iCal could then trigger an email, and then go back to sleep.
    2) If not, is there a way to forward my iCal events to Google Calendar? I can download Google Calendar to iCal, but I can't seem to push stuff to Google Calendar.
If you add your Google Calendar to iCal you should be able to put all your events into that calendar. That calendar is CalDAV so it will be updated on the Google server and then also update any other systems that are reading that calendar (Linux and otherwise)
If you are unable to make changes to your Google calendar in iCal I would suggest you remove it and re-add it.
    Hope that helps.

My email reminders from iCal are executing but they are remaining in the outbox and are not sending. I'm not sure why. In order to send them I have to open up each one individually and send them.

  • ICal email reminders

Is iCal able to send email reminders if the computer is asleep?

No, but it should send them when it wakes up again.

  • Have iCal reminders sent to email?

It seems that you can somehow have iCal e-mail reminders of dates of events. I can't figure this out; I can find info on many similar things but not this, so I'm not sure if I'm chasing a non-existent feature...
    Any tips? Thanks.
    p.s. iCal 3.0.6 on Leopard

    Found the info
in Address Book, create a card with the e-mail address and select it with Mark As My Card. In iCal, choose Email as the Alarm type and this should work.

I am automating the process of sending appointment reminders to my clients. I started with an alert with an email in calendar using the clients email address as a custom entry in my me card in my contacts. this was resulting in three emails being sent with slightly different versions of the same address (see my previous post). Heating someone else's suggestion I created a workflow file to send an email and calling that file from an alert on my calendar. This is working and sends only one email to the client.
My calendar is on I cloud and I access it from three different computers so I can keep my appointment calendar current. The files that send the email only exist on one computer. My other computers show error messages when those emails get sent. It seems that each computer wants to send the email. It's a small problem but is there a way that I could not get those alerts.
But appreciate any thoughts about this. It seems like both problems might be related to the iCloud system.
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

Good work, catch so far Michael, does seem to be a "feature" of iCloud syncing, not sure what you could do to disable it.

  • I need help finding or creating a script to automatically create iCal email and message reminders. iCal

    Dear All,
I'm learning to use iCal v.5.0.3 on a Mac Pro (2,1) 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, running Lion OSX10.7.5.
I need to find or write a script which, when I create a new iCal timed event, will automatically send me an email and give a screen alert 24 hours before - plus on the morning of the appointment, plus 2 hours beforehand. I'm wondering if such a script exists already or can be adapted.  I've searched various forums and am unable to find specific simple instructions on how to create such a thing in Applescript or Automator or whatever. So I've really tried to find out on my own.
Can anyone direct me to a set of instructions? This can't be so hard, can it? To clarify, when I create an "event" with a time (an appointment), I want to hit a button which tells iCal  to send me these reminders without my having to set multiple reminders in iCal for each of my new "events".
I'd be most grateful for any advice at all.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to read this. Hope you can set me on the right course. I have no knowledge of Applescript or Automator, but am ready to learn. I am very stupid, so instruction has to be in language comprehensible by a small hamster.
    Best wishes,
    Harry.

Doing a shell script to burn a DVD from a folder (for example) is pretty challenging. The reason is that you need to execute the entire script in one shot, because making a burned disk is a 3 part affair with each part of the operation taking time. The problem with executing separate commands is that Applescript can't wait around until a shell command is finished, while a shell script will not proceed to the next command until the previous command is completed.
Burning disk takes these 3 parts:
    1) Create an empty diskimage of your desired size
    2) Mount the empty and copy your stuff to it
    3) Burn and eject
There may be a shortcut by burning an existing folder but you don't say exactly what you're doing. See the hdutil command for more information:

  • ICal client/customer automatic eMail reminders

So iCal can totally send reminders to those who are "attending" an event. But what about sending an automatic eMail reminder that has custom text in it? I own a business and we'd like for the appointments that we have in iCal to send eMail reminders that remind our customers what day and time their appointment is, along with directions, and what they should bring. The eMail would say the same thing for every customer, but is it possible to customize the eMail reminders? or is there an add on/plug in that can be bought or another application that simply reads the iCal appointments or anything?!?!

    Maybe this will help.

    Hey Armando Stettner,
Thanks for the question, and what a great question it is!
With time zone support on, you can edit an individual event and change the time zone for that event. This list will include options for your default time zones, UTC, and "floating" - the latter of which is what you are looking for. Floating changes the event to occur at the specified time, local time.
For information on changing an event's time zone, see the following resource:
Calendar: Change an event’s time zone
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11531
I look forward to hearing how this works for you.
    Cheers!
    Matt M.

  • When I enter an event in iCal, soon thereafter multiple other "New Event" notices (one to four) appear for the same day. If I delete these unwanted "New Event" notices, they later reappear -- sometimes multiplying like rabbits. Any suggestions?

Well, using iMovie to rearrange clips in a mini DV video edited by another program is extremely time consuming. I found a workaround. It still takes time, but it's much faster than rearranging the clips using iMovie.
The workaround is as follows. Bring up Finder and go to the directory where your event's clips are stored (typically ~/Movies/iMovie Events/<name of event>). It helps to setup Finder to be in Cover Flow mode, so you can see the beginning of each clip. Then, sort the files in ascending order by the 'Date Modified' field. This makes Finder sort the files in the same order that they were imported from the mini DV tape. Clips with timecodes have the naming convention "clip-<year>-<month>-<day> hour;minute;second.dv". Clips without timecodes use another naming convention. With the files sorted by "Date Modified" in Finder, rename clips as needed so that the date/time in their file names are in ascending order. Note: when you rename a file, you need to restart iMovie. I suggest not running iMovie while renaming files.
I believe the file date/timestamp is only accurate to the second. Occasionally, there may be a couple of clips that have the same date/timestamp. This may cause the ordering to not be correct. The best way to find these is through iMovie. To modify a file's date/time, right click on the clip in the event in iMovie, and then select "Adjust Clip Date and Time...".
So, this workaround is a lot easier and faster than trying to rearrange things from scratch in iMovie. But it's still time consuming. Creating a project out of an already edited video should take less than 5 minutes (not counting import time), but that's not the case.
I submitted an enhancement request to Apple asking if they can add an option to sort an event's clips in the order that they were imported by iMovie. Those who have the same issue as me, I suggest you submit an enhancement request as well.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • SMS, IVR, iCAL, eMail Patient Compliance Reminders Software

There was a question a few months back on Patient Reminder and patient compliance services software used in the browser and on iCAL.
The person wanted to send Patients an SMS, iCAL, email alert reminder to ensure they turned up for their doctors visit on time and in the correct state.
The same solution is also used to remind the patient to adhere to complex medication regimens.
For care-giving groups and non-profits the patient reminder software is provided free of charge. It is used extensively by pharma companies and CRO's in clinical trials. The savings and efficiencies are significant.
