ICal entries won't import (Leopard)

I just tried creating a calendar for printing using iPhoto 6 and discovered that I can't seem to import entries from iCal. I didn't have any trouble doing this last year, but since then I have upgraded to Leopard.
I'm wondering whether Leopard's version of iCal is incompatible with iPhoto 6.Has anyone else had this problem? More to the point, does anyone have a solution?

The best (only) workaround I've found so far is to boot 10.4 (Tiger) from a different disk in order to create the calendar.
There's also the possibility of using other calendar printing services, such as Snapfish in the UK, though I don't know how good their print quality is and whether they do the spiral binding.

Yes. Here is a copy and paste from Textedit. I have been having steady problems with these ICS files from Priority Club.

• IPhoto says it won't import photos from my Fujifilm Finepix S1000 camera because it's the wrong format (jpeg). It always has before... but I upgraded to Lion then went back to Snow Leopard and now it's not working. Suggestions? Thanks!

iPhoto says it won't import photos from my Fujifilm Finepix S1000 camera because it's the wrong format (jpeg). It always has before... but I upgraded to Lion then went back to Snow Leopard and now it's not working. Suggestions? Thanks!

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

• LR 1.3 won't import from CF, SD cards in Leopard

With Leopard (OSX 10.5.1 - iMac 24), LR is unable to import all the files from our cameras (both CF and SD cards). It will get 6-10 images but that's about it. If we delete the images that imported and start again, we will get another 6-10. Using a card reader might be a little better but still not more than 10-12 images. If we copy the cards to a USB photo bank and then import from that, it works OK; we get all the images. Aperture (1.5.6) is able to import with no problem.

I'm having the same problem with my Nikon .nef images, except LR 1.3/Leopard can't import from my card reader either. Doesn't matter if it's a dozen images or 150, it will import the first five and then tell me it can't read the rest, although the error message says it can't read "the following files" and then gives the number of files that can't be read: 0. Zero. I can see the images in the preview pane, but it won't import them.
At first, I could delete all the five imported photos from the disk, eject the card, reinsert it and it would perform a full import. But for the last few days, it won't perform a full import at all. I have to copy the photos to my desktop and import from there -- hardly an efficient use of time or drive space. Works fine in other apps, and worked fine in Tiger, etc. etc.
Any thoughts as to why this might be?? Any fix???
Thanks....

• IPhoto won't import Nikon D70 raw files after upgrade to Leopard

I recently upgraded to Leopard, and yesterday, I hooked my Nikon D70 up to the computer. iPhoto auto starts, and tells me that there are pictures to import. When I click the import button, iPhoto tells me that it is importing the photos, (which are in Nikon raw format) but in fact, it is not. The photos don't "flash" across the screen as they are being imported as they used to. When iPhoto thinks it is done, there are no new photos on my hard drive. A spotlight search confirms that fact.
Jpeg photos still import just like they used to. Only raw photos don't import.
If I manually open iPhoto, and click on file then import, I can find my cameras CF card, and highlight the photos I want to import, and iPhoto will then import raw photos. It won't import them with the simple attach the camera, one click import that I have grown used to. My D70 is a supported camera for iPhoto, and it used to work in OSX 10.4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had the same prob with my mac and my D70.
I did an upgrade to leopard from tiger. After that, iPhoto would not import photos. The camera and pics would show up in the app, and would let me try an import, but it would come up with an error saying "20 photos were in an incompatible format and could not be imported".
Since upgrading to Leopard, image capture wouldn't work either. App would run and then wouldn't. Would crash and error. Wouldn't import photos at all either.
I was able to manually drag photos from my camera to the desktop and then import into iPhoto.
iPhoto wasn't the only thing playing up on my mac (networking, file permissions, backlit keyboard, software update, ffmpeg app were all problematic), so I backed up everything I wanted to keep to an external drive and did an erase and install of Leopard. This has fixed practically every problem I had. Do the same if you can, cos it has made my mac a pleasure to use again.

• How to import ical data from tiger to leopard

Hi, I want to transfer all my ical calendar info from my tiger imac to my new macbook with leopard. What file do I copy and transfer to my macbook? Can I just backup database on my tiger ical and imort that into leopard? In leopard, it says import and ical file, a vCal file or entourage. My backup database file says .icbu. Help appreciated.

If you have a .icbu file which was created with iCal 2.0.X, copy that file to your Leopard System and use (Control + Click) to "Show Package Contents."
Look for folders named something like 4A1DC586-14EC-4D42-B659-BEBA31968385.calendar in the Sources Folder of the iCal Backup file. There should be as many of these folders as you had calendars on the Leopard system, but they will have different alpha numeric names than the example which I just gave you.
Open these oddly named folders and you will find the corestorage.ics files containing your calendars.
Use iCal to import the corestorage files by using the iCal>File>Import... menu command to navigate to and import the appropriate corestorage.ics file for each of your calendars.
;~)

• Is it possible to make an iCal entry "blink"?

Is it possible to make an iCal entry "blink" -- that is, turn on and off to attract one's attention to it?

Roger:
Thanks for your prompt answer. Even though it's not currently supported, I think it'd be a nice feature to have -- to "highlight" a very important to-do on one's calendar.

• Iphoto won't quit, won't import photos, stalls while editing photos despite rebuilding the database

I have mountain lion and the newest version of iphoto. It won't quit unless I force quit it, it won't import photos, it won't let me edit photos without freezing up. I have tried rebuilding the database and repairing permissions without success

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it freezes also try this:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the new library doesn't freeze or act like your current library then your current library is the culprit.
In that case Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

• IPhoto won't import photos from iPhone

Hi - using a MBP 2.2, Leopard, iLife 08 and an 8gb iPhone. iPhoto used to import photos from the iPhone no problem - now it won't import it at all. Says it's an unreadable file (though a normal jpg).
What gives? Same issue trying to import two jpg's rec'd via email (and dragged to my desktop).
Any suggestions?

I have this problem now. I have MacOS 10.5.1, iPhoto '08, and iPhone running 1.1.2.
In my "camera roll" on the iPhone are 260 photos, all the pics I have taken since I got the phone. I imported some of them weeks ago with no problems into iPhoto. But now iPhoto can't import anything from the iPhone.
iPhoto does know there are photos on the phone, because there is set of blank thumbnail squares that I can select to import. When I look at the photo info, I can see the file name, size, date, but all the other info is missing or incorrect. It doesn't have camera maker or model. Most worrying though is the height and width of the pictures are zero.
I am thinking that there is some cache file on the phone that got corrupted somehow. Resetting to factory settings might help, but I really don't want to lose all the photos that I took from the holidays.
I've tried the above suggestions and no avail: logged out and into the .Mac account; powered down the phone; reset the iSync history (interestingly, iSync does not recognize my phone when I do a device scan).
I did try removing some stuff to make room, but still no dice.

• Lost ical entries

Reinstalled system software on my eMac recently. It wiped out all the ical calendar entries. I recently bought an ibook and transferred everything from the eMac, icncluding the calendar, so I have backup data. However when using Migration Assistant from the eMac to ibook, I noticed it appeared to transfer everything, files, application, settings, etc, regardless of what i selected to be transferred.
I was able to trnasfer most info back to the eMac via CD-ROM,. Anyone have a suggesion for transferring just the ical entries back to eMac??

two choices:
1) Export the calendars on the ibook; move them to the eMac then import them
2) On the iBook in iCal in the file menu, choose "Back up Database..." then move this backup to the emac and there choose "Revert to Database Backup..." selecting the iBook backup you just moved.

• System Preferences, Address book, and ical suddenly won't open

As I said My system Preferences, Address book, and ical suddenly won't open. This seemed to have happen all at once. The only unusual thing to happen lately is that my ipod was corrupted and I resored it last night. Now when I try to open these programs I get one or two bounces on the icon, then nothing. My other programs including itunes seem to work fine. There are no error messages at all.

/System/Library/Frameworks/Message.framework/Versions/B/Message (file is empty)OK, this is an important part of your basic system and will need to be restored.
First you should boot from your Install Disk and repair your disk: see Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance.
Then I think you would be wise to consider an Archive & Install. See Mac OS X : About the Archive and Install Feature. This should put back the missing file(s). You will also then need to re-apply the Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update (Combo), and anything else Software Update says is missing.
Post back and let us know how you get on!

• CS3 .ste files won't import into CS5

I recently upgraded from CS3 <on XP> to CS5 <on Mac Snow Leopard.> I expected a learning curve, but I also expect that software works as specified.
My CS3 site definition files won't import. I followed the instructions in DW help to the letter:
Manage Sites---> Import--->browsed to .ste files, selected Choose, and nothing happens. The sites don't show up in the list in the Manage Sites dialog box. ARE THERE MISSING INSTRUCTIONS? IS THERE A PLUG-IN MISSING?
After I've tried to import them, the .ste files are then 'greyed out' from the list of files. It doesn't matter what source the .ste files come from: jumpdrive, email, etc.
Note: This is a new, fresh & clean Snow Leopard install, and my files were transfered at the Apple Store. The CS5 install was just last week as well.
I have client sites to update. Please help!

Yes, I did export the .ste files from XP/CS3. I saved them to a jumpdrive, and also emailed them to my Macbook. I know some people don't read or follow instructions before they ask for help, but that's not the case.
This seems to be a CS5 issue in Mac Snow Leopard. Important note; I was able to import the .ste files to an XP machine running a demo version of CS5. I've moved site files before with CS, CS2, and CS3, on XP. Never had an issue with those flavors or that OS.
On my Mac, after I attempt to import the .ste files, they become 'greyed out'. All other file types (.html, etc.) also appear 'greyed out'. It seems like there's a missing step in the instructions?
Update: I right-clicked the .ste files in my Downloads file, and chose 'Open with Dreamweaver'. THEN they imported successfully, and prompted me to choose the root folders. (If nobody answers the front door, knock on the back door!)
Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I think the problem is behind me. Long live the right click!

• Creating iCal entries based on date/time appearing in text on any app

One thing I like about iCal's integration with Apple Mail is that the mail client is able to sense dates and times in email messages and then allow you to create iCal entries. But it seems that this date and time sensing is only limited to Apple Mail when technically users could potentially want to create iCal entries when a date and time appears on any app, such as on a web page in a web browser, in a PDF, or a word processing document. It seems logical then for iCal to be integrated with OS X's text services, so that at least if I highlighted a date and time, I could right click on it and bring up an option to create an iCal entry on based on that date and time.
Does anyone know if this feature is natively supported (for which I have yet to enable), or is there a third party app out there that will allow me to do this?

Just a quick update. I tried the first two -- text2cal and Calendar Creator -- and they don't seem to work on OS X 10.6.6.
However, on another note, I found some discussion regarding Snow Leopard's enhanced data detectors being natively able to do what I've been looking for. But I just can't seem to get it to work on my computer:
"Enhanced Data Detectors now link dates, times and other items found in text to actionable items in other applications, like iCal. For example, a drop-down menu that automatically appears when you select the time or date parts in a text enables you to create a new iCal event from a selected date or show the date in iCal." • ICloud is randomly deleting iCal entries

At several points over the past week, I thought my calendar appeared unusually "thinned out". Then last night I noticed an appointment I had been delaying for a while was nowhere to be seen.
At first I thought it may be somewhere on my calendar, a week back or so. This is because I had been rescheduling that appointment often, so I had moved it back, a day here and a day there, every week for the past month or so. I knew the exact title of the entry so I did a search for it.
It was gone. Apparently deleted. I refreshed everything and even checked my iPad & iPhone calendars for it Nothing...
I blamed myself, re-created the entry, and moved on. At this time I also made several new entries and planned my week. Then today I went back to my calendar on my Mac, opened iCal, saw the appointments for today, that I entered last night, disappear before my very eyes. I then picked up my iPhone to view the calendar there, and they were gone.
Next I picked up my iPad and turned off Wi-Fi as quickly as possible. Once Wi-Fi was disconnected and I was no longer online, I opened iCal and there were my appointments. There were five different instances of appointments scheduled last night that we're now deleted and gone. This is important because it rules out an accidental deletion. I took a screen grab to preserve my data, and went looking for answers. I found none.
I'm freaked out. I live & die by my iCal and I'm worried this has happened before where maybe I didn't notice.
The only recent change I can possibly link to this iCloud synced iCal, is that I allowed an app called FlightTrack Pro to "Sync with iCloud". Which is relatively reassuring, only because it was a fairly new addition, therefore decreasing the likelihood that there were problems in the past. IF its this access causing the deletions.
Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing happen several times. I too independently concluded that it could only be the updated FlightTrack Pro App feature as you stated. It was the only new thing on my devices. My Apple tech support expert told me to read your entry. I agree and disabled the 'SYnc with iCloud' feature. But I'm still allowing the 'SYnc with Calendar' option. But if the iCal entries that I just made disappear again, I will then disable that button on FT Pro. A major pain.

• Overlapping iCal entries

In Snow Leopard, overlapping iCal entries shared the space by becoming narrower. Now they overlap and you cannot really see what is underneath the uppermost one. Is there any way of reverting to the old behaviour?

Hi,
Assuming st_date <= en_date on every row, rows a and b overlap if and only if
a.st_date <= b.en_date AND
b.st_date <= a.en_dateDepending on your definition of "overlap", you may want to use < instead of <=.
I hope this answers your question. If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), and the results you want from that data.
