Ical entry problem on my iMac

I receive the following error message when I try and make a new entery in iCal.
Can anyone help me with this?

It doesnt work either way
The reminder shows up but then I get the triangle with the exclamation point next to it
SO I am guessing I can sync the reminder but then it loses the iCloud connection?
I am running Lion 10.7.3 and the latest iOS software
Any help appreciated

  • Ical syncing issues with iphone/imac after lion OS update.

    Hi All,
I upgraded to lion and now have two issues with syncing my iphone and ipad to my imac.
First issue is that calander entries created on the iphone/ipad do not appear in the imac calander after syncing.
Second issue is that if I change an calander entry on my imac, the old entry and the new entry will show up on my iphone.  For example. I created an event and accidently clicked out of it before changing the name.  I then reopened that entry and changed the name and date. In my imac ical calender I only had one entry at the final date with the correct name.  When I synced my iphone and ipad however two events showed up on the iphone and ipad. The original "new event", and the event with the correct name and date.
The same thing happened when I had the same event occuring for 5 days,  I manual copied the one event five times on the one day and then dragged them to the correct days in ical on my imac.  When I synced my iphone I had both the 5 entries on the one day, as well as the entries on the days I had dragged them to.
In summary, now when I look at my calander in ical on my imac it looks great, but on my iphone it has all these extra entries. It is as though when it syncs it shows me all of my previous entries and changes, instead of the actual current calander.
Any thoughts how I can get the imac and iphone icals to look the same?
and in case you were wondering, I dont use Icloud.  I did set it up and turned it off after the duplicate entry problem that everyone has mentioned.  I dont have that duplicate entry issue anymore.
    Thanks
    Adrian

From what your write, it is a little hard to tell, what exactly your problem is, though you may want to try the following, which helped me at time:
    step one:
export all of your calendars one by one, including the one with entries giving you problems
    step two:
erase all of your calendars and create a dummy character, check if syncing works with that one.
reimport the previously exported calendars one by one, redoing the syncing routines.
In the instances I had problems, I found that exporting and reimporting a calendar file usually did away with the problem
Also, at least on my machines, turning on the birthday link to address book, created some problems, so you might want to try without that feature too.
If you got everything working on one machine, another strategy can be to reinitiate syncing from that one, i.e. erase and reinstall the syncing process on the others. Just make sure you have an up to date back up of your entries.

  • ICal printing problem

Only recently started using iCal, and only on my iMac. I'd like to print out the page to use as a calendar in the house but, for some inexplicable (perhaps explicable?) reason, if there is an entry on the top or bottom lines, especially if they are birthdays, they are previewed and print as faded; this includes the box lines that surround them. Anyone else found this problem?

Ooops! Having given this some thought I have just realised that the 'bits' that are faded are those from the preceding and succeeding months, the 'overlap' dates. That makes sense and I have now answered my own query. Thanks for your interest!

  • After iCloud upgrade i have duplicate iCal entries (iPhone is ok).  Why?

After I upgraded to iCloud I now have duplicate iCal entries!  My iPhone does not have duplicates which is good.  In iTunes I AM NOT syncing my iCal.
    Thanks

    MyFord, Mirek,
I have the same problem on iMac: some iCal entries duplicated, some triplicated, and some quadruplicated...
If I change the colour of the On My Mac Calendars, right click on calendar, select Get Info, I can identify those entries, all single.
Do the same on the iCloud Calendars, and the second and third entries on the day (Month View) change colour.
So, the iCloud entries on the iMac are duplicated...
iCal on my iPhone is OK, only a single entry...
Where do I go from here...
I suspect the first thing I should do is back up On My Mac Calendars.
    What next?

Backup the On My Mac calendars (in iCal, File>Export>iCal Archive) and then delete them from iCal

  • ICal entries vanish after sync with GroupCal 2.5 Beta

I was wondering if anyone else may have this problem or maybe even a solution. I tried syncing iCal (2.0.2) with my work's exchange server (2003) using Groupcal 2.5 Beta. Everything went really well, all my iCal entries appeared in Exchange, however when the data was ready to go back into iCal an error popped up:
iCal was unable to load the calendar. The file might be corrupted or temporarily unreadable...
I've asked the software developers if there's anything I can do, but they've been giving me the silent treatment. I realise this is a beta and I may be stuck with this problem until version 3.0 comes out, but I'd like to see if anyone has had the Beta working and how they set it up...
    Cheers.

I'd like to second your request to Apple. iCal 2.0.3 is quite close already: it can receive and send meeting requests to Exchange clients. One crucial thing missing is support for the https protocol. That would allow us to subscribe to Exchange calendars via the https://your.company.com/exchange/user.name/calendar/ url (supposing the OWA calendar format is compatible with iCal, which is not very likely).

  • Snow Leopard Server iCal push not working on iMac clients

    Hello,
I have a new installed mac mini snow leopard server and updated osx with all the latest updates.
I am running the iCal server and the Push service and everything seems to run OK.
I have 4 brand new iMac clients which share calendars between the different users, but the iCal Push function doesn't work at all. Even when I change the update method in the iCal client to interval of 1 minute, it doensn't update.
The only way the calendar updates is to choose "Refresh" from the Calendar menu in iCal client.
The push function for the mail clients do work which is strange.
I already tried the following actions:
    1. I have stopped and restarted the Push-service on the server
    2. I have removed the push server settings in the iCal server settings on the server and added them again
    3. I followed the iCal log file to see if an action of a client is immediatly visible on the server = OK
    4. I've updated all the clients to the newest software
    5. I have restarted the server completely
Does anybody have tips or advise to help me looking to find the cause of the iCal Push problems?

  • E71 cannot add iCal entries to Calendar

Whenever I or someone else forwards to me an iCal calendar entry, as an email attachment, I get an error message, from my Nokia E71, when I attempt to open the iCal entry and add it to the native calendar.
    Here's what happens:
    Email is received.
    Open attachment
Message is "Calendar entry Add to Calendar?"
    I select "Yes"
Message is "Calendar entry Failed to add to calendar"
the iCal attachments are coming from Microsoft Outlook.
Is there a problem with the iCal format, being sent from Outlook, or with the E71's ability to read the iCal file and add it to its calendar?
If not iCal, is there another way to send calendar entries from Outlook?

Looks like it's an Outlook 2007 issue rather than Nokia....

  • ICloud is randomly deleting iCal entries

At several points over the past week, I thought my calendar appeared unusually "thinned out". Then last night I noticed an appointment I had been delaying for a while was nowhere to be seen.
At first I thought it may be somewhere on my calendar, a week back or so.  This is because I had been rescheduling that appointment often, so I had moved it back, a day here and a day there, every week for the past month or so. I knew the exact title of the entry so I did a search for it.
It was gone. Apparently deleted. I refreshed everything and even checked my iPad & iPhone calendars for it Nothing...
I blamed myself, re-created the entry, and moved on. At this time I also made several new entries and planned my week. Then today I went back to my calendar on my Mac, opened iCal, saw the appointments for today, that I entered last night, disappear before my very eyes. I then picked up my iPhone to view the calendar there, and they were gone.
Next I picked up my iPad and turned off Wi-Fi as quickly as possible. Once Wi-Fi was disconnected and I was no longer online, I opened iCal and there were my appointments. There were five different instances of appointments scheduled last night that we're now deleted and gone. This is important because it rules out an accidental deletion. I took a screen grab to preserve my data, and went looking for answers. I found none.
I'm freaked out. I live & die by my iCal and I'm worried this has happened before where maybe I didn't notice.
The only recent change I can possibly link to this iCloud synced iCal, is that I allowed an app called FlightTrack Pro to "Sync with iCloud". Which is relatively reassuring, only because it was a fairly new addition, therefore decreasing the likelihood that there were problems in the past. IF its this access causing the deletions.
    Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing happen several times. I too independently concluded that it could only be the updated FlightTrack Pro App feature as you stated. It was the only new thing on my devices.  My Apple tech support expert told me to read your entry. I agree and disabled the 'SYnc with iCloud' feature. But I'm still allowing the 'SYnc with Calendar' option. But if the iCal entries that I just made disappear again, I will then disable that button on FT Pro. A major pain.

  • ICal scripting problem

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to write a brief .ics script to input my entire shift pattern into iCal and I'm making some headway although struggling with the last 5%.
I work 6 on 4 off, 2 earlies, 2 lates, 2 nights then 4 days off. No problem, I've written 6 events, each that are repeated daily with a 10 day interval.
The problem lays in the fact that the shifts that land on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, the time of the shift changes.
Now it would be ideal if RRULE:FREQ=DAILY;BYDAY=MO,TU,WE,SU;INTERVAL=10 worked, that'd be great! Because I could just write a second event to place the events on the friday/sat/sun.
So I've sort of abandoned that idea.
So now I'm looking at placing a new event, repeating weekly, by day, and using the userID and editing a day. I.e if I set the UID of both early shifts as GPCJ-Early. Then I write an 'edit' script to run on Thurs,Fri,Sat and edit any GPCJ-Early to 07-1800 and so forth for the other shifts, that would also work.
Am I missing something glaringly obvious and a better way of achieving this? I just need to place events that repeat every 10 days, except with different times if it's a thursday, friday or saturday.
I'm testing it on phpicalendar 1.1 and I assume there must be some sort of syntax error (although it validates online) because iCal on my girlfriend's iMac says that the file is unusable. I'll cross that bridge later though!
Appreciate any help you can offer, technical documentation on iCal programming seems incredibly sparse!
    Gareth

iCal takes its format from System Preferences>Language& Text>Formats.
Click on the 'Customize' button for 'Time' and set as here:
Then drag the  'PM' button in the 'Time Elements' section to after the short time - though when I tried this it didn't appear in iCal. You may need to experiment a bit.

  • ICal entries to phone but no phone entries to iCal?

    Hi!
Is it possible to copy all the iCal entries to my phone but nothing from the phone to iCal using iSync?
I only edit the entries from my powebook, and use the phone calendar as a reminder. So if for example i erase an entry from iCal, or change it somehow, I don't want the old version to be copied back in from my phone when I use iSync.
Nokia 6233 via bluetooth. Devices already set up and working fine.
    Thanks

(i know this is old, but I was digging thru some isync/ical problems)
What you could do is to sync the events you create on your phone into its own calendar. So create a calendar called "Phone" (or whatever). Then load up iSync. Under the Calendars section there is an option to "Put events created on phone into:" and you can select "Phone" calendar from there.
*But*, you will need to sync the "Phone" calendar every time too (otherwise you can't select it with that option above). Still, for everyday use in iCal, you can just uncheck the "Phone" calendar and you won't see those events.
    HTH.

  • ICal entries disappeared

My wife's iCal entries on her iPhone suddenly disappeared! She plugged into her desktop (which still runs tiger) and now it's blank, too. Must retrieve, please help.

i am having a similar issue, except my iphone ical entries are still there. my laptop (macbook p40 2.53 ghz running 10.6.7) ical entries have all disappeared. i have repaired my permissions to no effect. when i sync with my iphone, i am told that my iphone is updating my laptop's computer's entries. however, at the end, my laptop still has no entries.
i have done nothing new to my laptop recently.
i ran time machine a week ago (i know, i know), but given the fact that updates from my iphone
don't fix the problem, i don't think that going back to an old ical file will help). i did try replacing my
ical application with an old (time machined) copy, in case the program was damaged. that did not
    help.
any ideas would be most welcome.

OS X Yosemite v10.10.3 Update - I had problems with my iMac after installing the previous update and I removed that update.  Have there been problems associated with this update ?

I've been using it on all of my computer without any problems. Remember you won't see any positive comments here. Everyone here is complaining about a problem. If you want a good experience with any upgrade or update first make a backup from which you can boot the computer. If you are installing an update, like 10.10.3 for example, always download and install the Combo Updater - OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update. Before you install any update or upgrade over an existing system you should do this:Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Deleting years of old iCal entries

I'd like to get MacBook to delete all iCal entries more than 200 days old, to free up space in both my hard drive and my iPhone. This is probably simple, but I can't find anywhere to do it.
I've already been into iCal preferences and entered that I only want the last 200 days, but it hasn't worked - the entries are still there!

I tried the Automator thing too ... not .. as you say above .. locks the system .. nothing happens and things freeze up .... sigh .... well .. all that being said, I have to say I am enjoying MAC since the switch from PC, I am just finding some of the problems REALLY basic ... like ridiculous oversights ... Can anyone answer this one:?
When I first import a photo, the thumbnails work fine when using scrolling through ... though, if I modify the photo in anyway or change the size, the thumbnail in icon view works well, but if I want to use the scroll feature where they are all displayed like dominos on the top window area, any changed photo is now pixely and blurred. Any answers there? Also ... I am wanting to take all my folders in PC and import them to iPhoto, but am wondering if when I change the size of a photo to save space, does iPhoto keep them in the large size in the /originals/ folder? or can I pull them from that folder and resize them modifying the original? Then of course, I have my thumbnail problem as a result .... (Sorry, realize it's a different thread, but, I was here when I thought of it)

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.
