ICal event reminder bug causes alarm to be repeated every hour

Hi,
I'm running 10.7.3 on an iMac.
In the last fortnight (nothing with the OS or settings has been changed) the iCal event reminders incorrectly trigger every hour for the same event. This is occuring for every event reminder, even if the settings are for a single alarm or email the day before. To make things worse I've had to delete the events with one-off email notifications as my inbox was getting full!
The events themselves are not duplicated, and the alarms not set to be recurring.
I have an icloud calendar, two exchange calendars, and two calendars all being sync'd between my iMac, two macbook pro's, and iPhone and iPad. Have had these all set for ages with no problems.
I've called apple support enough times in the past to have already checked the system privilages but unfortunately this has not resolved the problem.
I would turn off all the event alarms but a few of the calendars are shared across different sites and keep us all on the same page (occasionally also the events have been created by others).
Suggestions would be much appreciated
Isaac

Totally missed it, duh! Thanks. Will try again.

If you have Outlook 2007 on your computer you can set up the event to repeat every third Thursday on a calendar on your computer within Outlook. Then sync your iPhone with Outlook on your computer using iTunes.

  • IPod Classic displays blank event reminder, click causes restart

I have an iPod Classic that I've had for about a year now. I've restored it twice now, but I'm still seeing this error. Periodically, a blank event reminder will pop-up on the screen with no name, but with the option to snooze or clear the reminder. When I click the wheel to select either option to clear the reminder, the iPod instantly restarts.
Anyone else have this happen to their iPod? Any ideas what causes it or how I could get it to stop?
I've been wondering if it could be related to having three computers (work: 10.4.11, home: 10.6.1, other home computer:10.5.9), an iphone and my ipod all sync-ed together with MobileMe. The OS variations seem to generate a lot of problems with duplicate entries and sync update notifications between computers and I'm wondering if maybe something in there is causing these strange blank notifications to go to my iPod.
However, I don't get blank event notifications on my computers or on my iPhone...so I'm not sure my half-baked idea has anything to do with it.
I don't know how many more times I need to restore this iPod... anyone have an idea, or should I just take it in (even though I can't force demonstrate this error to a genius bar employee...)
    Thanks!

I've been having the same exact problem since I've had my iPod Classic 80 GB (about 1 1/2 years). Not sure why either, I've looked for forums discussing the problem but have found nothing. I assumed the issue would've been fixed with an update, but I guess not.

  • Event 55, Ntfs. Causing System to lock up every hour.

I checked the event log because my computer began locking up frequently last night. About a month ago I started regularly getting event 55 occurrences (after struggling to remove a browser hijacker virus) and now it looks like the last two event 55 occurrences
were at the exact same time my computer locked up. Hovering over icons on the desktop would highlight them but the taskbar was completely unresponsive. There was also a small clock by the action center icon as if it were trying to do something.
    Here is the event log

It appears to have fixed the outstanding issue on the file system but you may want to re-run chkdsk about a week from now to see if it re-occurs.
I suspect you still have the freezing issue.  If so next step is a system file check and event viewer logs

  • Scripting iCal Events

As part of a school project, my students gather weather data when a specific NASA satellite passes over our school. We have to keep an eye on the schedule we receive and collect our data. Every once in a while we forget and miss an overpass. I decided to enter the satellite overpasses as iCal events and have an alarm sound to remind us. This tedious task of entering the events sounds like a great job for AppleScript. This AppleScript project is a little over my head because I don't understand insides of iCal and AppleScripting.
The satellite schedule comes as text in an email and looks like this:
Date & Time | Satellite Position
Mo Day Year Local UT | view sat azm relative solar sat. position sat
Time | zenith fr. N azimuth zenith lat. long dir
    Local Time = UT + (-6.0)
    9 16 2008 12:19 18 19 | 6.46 104.44 51.37 40.32 39.94 249.13 des

The only important info for our observations is the Mo, Day, Year and UT time — the other satellite info is not relevant to our observations.
How would I write a AppleScript that would strip away the unimportant info and create a different event each time for the satellite overpass? The iCal event would need to start 15 minutes before and end 15 minutes after the UT time given.
    TIA

    set tEvent to make new event at end with properties {start date:tDate, end date:tDate, description:(uHour & "." & uMinute & " UTC")}

    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oASTID -- Reset delimiter.

if (lNumber < 10) then set lNumber to "0" & lNumber

You may have to edit the code, as per the delimiters you use / set within 'System Preferences' 'International's 'Formats' 'Dates' and 'Times' configuration panels.

  • Notes in iCal events disappear

I've had trouble with notes within iCal events, as well as the parameters for repeating events and catagories, disappearing for no apparent reason from my Mac, iPad or iPhone (the phone seems to be the most frequent culprit).  They all sync with each other, and regardless of which device I use to enter the event note, random ones will just vanish.  Has anyone else encountered this?  I use these event notes for accounting purposes, as I book clients with iCal.  It's rather inconvenient when they're suddenly not there anymore.  Thanks!

I sync iCal between multiple iMacs, a MacBook, an iPhone, and an iPad and I have the same problem.  Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • ALARM - why is it an hour later, rather than an hour earlier?

Does anybody know why the alarm is going off an hour late - I would have thought if anything, it should go off an hour early? My alarm used to go off at 7am each day - 7am has now become 6am, and yet the alarm is going off at 8am (which was 9am previously). So if it's working from an internal clock which hasn't changed, my alarm is now going off 2 hours later than a couple of days ago, for no reason! Hope this makes sense?! I might just be being stupid here, but this is really annoying me and I can't find any reason for it anywhere - people just keep saying, 'the iphone thinks it's still BST' but surely that would make the alarm go off an hour earlier?

Does anybody know why the alarm is going off an hour late - I would have thought if anything, it should go off an hour early?
If there was no adjustment made for the time change it would have gone off early. Probably two programers, working independently, put in adjustment code in different places. Either one of the adjustments would have been correct, but both together made it off one hour in the other direction.
A fix is on the way.

  • Repeated Events / Reminder / Deferred Alarm Bug Thread

    Hi,
There is a verifiable & reproducibly bug with Repeated Events, Deferring Alarms. (Which I use constantly throughout my day and workflow, as it seems others do also.)
Apple support knows about the bug and has bumped it to the engineers.
My intent in this new post is to pull all of the reports together, so we can keep track of this bug.

Problem with snoozing repeating reminders in Snow Leopard
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2163161&tstart=0

Am facing the same issue with an iPad; but this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It has also happened when syncing from iCal to a Blackberry Curve via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Any repeated events - and not just from the iOS side of things - ANY repeated events cause this to happen.
iCal has the correct number of events and times, but as soon as you sync to another device, it becomes unusable. My wife runs a cleaning business where she constantly has to rearrange schedules for repeating customers. As soon as she does it once, she's got 2 copies of the same. Change the event twice, and suddenly she has 4 copies.
    Please help.

  • ICal event alarms aren't loud enough (and not long enough)...

I'm going to be getting my first smartphone very soon and am trying to decide which to get. I have an iMac, so I heavily favor the iPhone. But, I've run into a potential problem with Events in iCal:
I want to get an iPhone, use iCal for my schedule, and use MobileMe to keep everything synced. Until now, I've only used the calendar features in regular phones. I've been testing iCal on my Mac, and it clearly will be easier to program events into it.
My problem is iCal's audible alarm. I've been testing it by having it sound on my iMac (since I don't yet have an iPhone), and it seems you can only have a brief audible alarm sound (for instance, the "Glass" or "Basso" sound option with the "Message with Sound" option). I'm used to the calendars on regular cell phones, which have a loud alarm that repeats (like a cell phone ringer). Is there something I can do in iCal to make its alarm louder and repetitive on an iPhone?
I have a friend who has a droid phone and used the Google calendar. He says there is a setting on his phone (separate from the settings in Google's calendar) that lets him choose any ringer or .mp3 as the audible alarm for alerts from the Google calendar.
If I can't get a loud, repetitive alarm to sound on my iPhone with my iCal events, then it's really not going to work for me. The alarm will be going off on my iPhone and I will never hear it.
I know this question may be basic, but I really, really need an answer before I proceed (and I can't find the answer online). Thank you!

That is very surprising. Short of someone being able to recommend an app or other work around for this, the lack of such an audible alarm will rule the iPhone out for me. And I've waited a very long time for it to come to my carrier, so that is very disappointing.
It's really shocking to me that the designers wouldn't have started out by saying we need to have this smartphone incorporate every standard feature of previous regular phones. I had really not even thought that this could be a problem. I just stumbled on it and am astonished at the lack of a user ability to customize the alarm feature to a suitable sound.

  • Do ical-event alarms work in nano ?

    Hello guys!
I am thinking about buying a nano and i have a question regarding ical sync and specifically alarms.
If you set up an event in ical that has also an alarm (e.g. Message with sound 1 day before), will this alarm work in ipod nano?
Will the nano make a sound from its internal speaker for this event?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes it will. The noise it makes is substantially louder than the sound the Mini makes but it's still not loud enough to hear it if it's in a case in your pocket.

  • Adding invitee to iCal event causes double-ups

Whenever I add an invitee to an iCal event, it doubles up on iCal when they accept. Cannot delete double-up as it deletes it off invitee's calendar.

I'm having the same problem. From the number of unresolved problems with iCal under Snow Leopard I suspect that the application is in need of some serious refactoring. Clearly, the problem with inserting invitees is a problem with an index on the contacts application or the type of query that is being issued. I suspect the later since the mail application does not have the same problem.
Has anyone at Apple with access to source code looked into this? Is there a more formal way of submitting a problem report?

  • Automator - iCal has unwanted/mystery music alarm (for non music workflow)

I have several web page fetches that I automated and exported as iCal events.
In iCal, the even shows up as
alarm: Open File, workflow.app, 0 minutes before
    In Automator, the workflow.app is
    Get specified URL
which is passed to "Run Applescript"
    on run {input, parameters}
    repeat with x in input
    open location x
    end repeat
    return input
    end run
which fetches the pages I want in new tabs.
But when the alarm goes off, it also starts playing a music file. iTunes is not launched as part of this process.
Nowhere did I specify an audible alarm in this. And I can find no place to disable/change it.
Where is this happening and how do I stop it (I had these set to fetch before I woke up.. the music is functioning as an unwanted alarm clock)
EDIT: running the workflow (in Automator) by itself does not cause the music to play.
    Thanks
    Mike

I found the same when setting up a hold music loop. I wanted the loop to start automatically when the machine booted up so made an automator workflow to do this.
Given that the "play playlist" action only has a tick box for "repeat" and "repeat one track" has no logical connection to the "play playlist" action then this has to be classified as a bug.
I wonder how long this will take to get fixed...

  • Event Reminder crashes at start up

    Hello,
Each time I start up I have my event reminder that crashes, it opens (nothing is written inside the window) and then the cursor spins the color ball continuously while on this window) it drains a lot of RAM so I have to force quit it by using the activity monitor. Then I have those strange error message windows telling me that some alarms can't be activated because it can't find an image that is linked to this alarm. The text was:
*The alarm that was defined for the event [Name of the event] did not execute on [Date of the event] as [Path of the .jpg file] could not be found*
I have looked at this exact sentence on the web and it returned almost no results.
    I have tried to delete:
    /users/library/calendars
    /users/library/preferences/com.apple.ical
    /users/library/caches/com.apple.ical
    + other preferences files
And while I haven't yet synchronized back with ISync to get back my datas from mobile me, all my calendars and events are back in my Ical! I don't know where Ical is grabbing them back.
I have tried also to delete the events that were linking to some pictures but those strange error messages kept coming back.
Then I have tried reinstalling Ical from the Leopard Install CD Optional Installs, but Ical as many other applications can't be installed (their name is light grey and the box can't be selected).
Help please! All my work is around this great tool!

    YannLB,
First of all, make some backups of your calendars, and place these backups on your Desktop for easy retrieval:
    1. Use iCal>File>Back up iCal...
    2. Use iCal>File>Export as a Calendar...(for each one of your calendars)
Next make sure that you "Uncheck" Synchronize with MobileMe: in your System Preferences...>MobileMe>Sync pane, and "Sign Out..." out of MobileMe using the System Preferences...>MobileMe>Account pane.
    I have tried to delete:
Now quit iCal and delete the "Calendar Cache" file located inside the Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder. Log out/in or restart and try iCal.
If you still have the problem, try: Mac OS X 10.5: Resetting the SyncServices folder.
Do not log back into MobileMe until your calendar performs correctly on your Macbook
...but Ical as many other applications can't be installed (their name is light grey and the box can't be selected).
With those symptoms, it appears as if you may want to try an Archive and Install of Leopard followed by reinstallation of the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update.
    ;~)
