Ical events on desktop

Is there a way to have daily events in ical appear on the desktop at startup? Kind of like the stickies do, but showing the events in the calendar.

Spaci1982,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Is there a way to have daily events in ical appear on the desktop at startup?
Not that I know of, but I use MenuCalendarClock for iCal, which allows you to use the menu bar for quick reference.

  • Ical events on iphone 5S will not sync to desktop

I have an iphone 5s operating 7.0.4. My ical events will not not USB sync to my desktop OS 10.6.8. My itunes version 11.1.3. Any ideas?
    Thanks

No you shouldn't have to ever repurchase anything.
I would go, on the mac, in iTunes, go to iTunes store section. Sign into you apple id, and over towards the right hand side bar you'll see a section titled 'quick links'     look for purchased and click on that.
At that point, you should see your purchase history and be able to re download them right to your mac here.
You'll also want to authorize your computer with your apple id(s) by clicking 'store' and going to authorize this computer and sign into your apple id(s)
At this point all should be well.
Might turn on auto downloads on your mac as well byt going clicking 'ituned' in the upper left corner of your display, going to preferences, click the store tab, then check mark all that applies about half way down.
    Hope this helps 

  • Why does my ical on my ipod touch not sync with my ical on my desktop if I put in an event on the ipod calendar?

Why does my ical on my ipod touch not sync with my ical on my desktop imac ical?
It will if I put it in on my desktop though.
    Please help,

Probably because you did not tell the iPod to sync the calendar in iTunes.

  • ICal syncing from desktop to iPhone and iPad is a nightmare

I have a mid-2011 MBA running Mountain Lion, an iPhone 5C, and an iPad 2.
I use the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird for a calendar, but it is buggy. I really want to go back to iCal so I can have my calendar on my phone and on my iPad, but syncing is a nightmare. I cannot find any plain language information on the rationale behind why syncing works the way it does so that I can figure out how to make it work correctly.
    What I want:
iCal desktop to be my primary calendar and to sync all updates to my iPad and iPhone. If I add an update on my iPad or iPhone, I want it to show up on iCal the next time I connect my device to the computer.
    What actually happens:
iCal desktop is the secondary calendar. Anything that happens on the iPad and iPhone is more important. If I add an iCal event on the desktop app while I am connected to my iPhone and iPad, the events I create disappear because they do not exist on the iPad and iPhone. If I create them when the devices are not connected, when I do connect I either lose the events or they get triplicated.
I do not use iCloud to sync, only iTunes by checking 'sync calendars.' I have given up on ever making iCloud syncing work for anything. Last time I tried it, it just deleted all my books, music, movies, etc. (thank goodness for Time Machine backups) and quadrupled all my calendar events...
Can someone please take pity on me and explain how to make syncing

Can't edit posts for some reason and my post got truncated.
"... to make syncing work between my Apple devices. I am a savvy computer user and that this boggles me frankly boggles me."
    Thank you.

  • I cannot delete an iCal event on my Iphone.

I cannot delete an iCal event on my Iphone. It does not have the edit button at the top of the screen.
The event does not show up in iCal on my Mac or on my iCloud.
One of these is a reoccuring event.

The only other thing I can think of is to try deleting the entire calendar from your iPhone and then sync your iCal calendar to your phone again.  This needs to be done carefully.  I would begin by backing up your iCal calendar on your mac for safekeeping by opening iCal, then going to File>Export>Export, save this on your desktop.  Then do the following:
On your phone go to Settings>iCloud and turn Calendars to Off.  You should get a prompt asking you whether to keep or remove the calendar data from your phone.  Choose to remove it.
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to iTunes>Preferences, go to the Devices tab check "Prevent...from automatically syncing".
Now connect your phone and, as before, go to the Info tab of your iTunes sync settings.  Confirm that you have checked to Sync Calendars with iCal, then further down under Advanced: Replace information on this iPhone check Calendars, then click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.
This should transfer your iCal calendar to your iPhone, hopefully this time without the problem event.  Check your phone to confirm that this was successful, then you can then go back to iTunes Preferences and re-enable automatic syncing.

  • Certain iCal Event Alarms Not Working on iPhone

I have certain calendar event reminders that are not issuing on the iPhone (3GS, latest iOS 4.3.5) after syncing from iCal on the desktop with a CalDAV calendar running on Mac OS X 10.6 Server.
Most appointments do issue alerts properly, but I've noticed ones that have some or all of the following attributes are a problem:
1 - recurring on alternating weeks
2 - alarm set for day before the event (e.g. 7pm the night before or "5 hours before all-day event" as calendar sees it)
3 - alarms that do not conform to the short list of pre-set iPhone calendar alarms (5 min, 10 min, 15 min,... 2 hours before, 12 hours before)
I have a feeling it's #3 or a combination of all. I've tried deleting and re-adding the calendar on the iPhone. I've also verified that the time zones match between phone and desktop iCal. In my case, the alarm never happens for these specific events, not that it happens much later or something.
    Anyone experience this issue?
    Thanks

why so many views of this question and nobody had replied with an answer?

  • Lost ical events after daylight savings

Just woke up and my ical is blank. I've tried looking at my icloud account and that is blank too. i have also turned off my phone and restarted it still all blank. Any suggestions on how to retrieve my ical events, current and past back?

    Quit iCal.
Open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist. Look for a line called "delete events". If it exists, set the value to "No" by clicking on it.
If the line does not exist, close the plist file and drag it to the desktop.
After either of the above steps, open iCal and create a test event older than 90 days and see if it keeps it.
    Hope that helps

  • Dragging invitees from Directory to iCal event

I have OS X 10.5 installed and iCal server running. On my iCal 3.0 clients I can create an event and drag an individual from either AB or Directory to the attendees box in the event I am editing.
However, I am unable to drag the same individual from the "Directory" category in AB into the attendees box, neither am I able to drag groups from Directory or AB to the attendees box of the event. I always get the "green light" and it looks like it going to work, it does not complain or report any errors, it just doesn't do anything.
    Any suggestions welcome.

    Hi
    A. DO NOT - Move or alter anything in any folder named - iMovie Projects or iMovie Events on DeskTop/Finder AT ALL - Moving Events and Projects MUST BE DONE within the iMovie Application ! Else connections will break and this can be anything from hard to impossibly to repair.
    B. The external hard disk to harbor iMovie Projects and Events
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will work for most BUT NOT FOR VIDEO - AT ALL !
    • Should be a FireWire one - as USB/USB2 performs badly to me
In iMovie - this external hard disk can be seen in Event resp. Project window and here You can move a project from one to the other and when asked let it move Events over too. This can be very good as the space needed , freed-up is mainly in Events as Project do not hold a copy of Your movie but just a text document on howto the material in Events are supposed to be played = Non-Destructive editing.

  • Continuing alerts for iCal Events after canceling

    Hello everyone,
I suspect what I'm about to describe is a bug, but hopefully I'm wrong and there is a setting for this. For any iCal Events I have, which are typically listed as all day events, I get continual reminder notifications even after CANCELLING.  Anyone seeing this?  Is there a way to stop it or do you think this is a bug.
FYI, I do have calendar turned on for iCloud, but not reminders.  This happens on both my Macbook Pro and my iMac.

OK...I've found the culprit and an easy workaround.  First, Desktop Manager for Mac is the problem.  If you set any event alert reminders in iCal to "Message and Sound" you'll get both the message and the sound on your Mac, but Desktop Manager for Mac mangles this somehow when the event is synched to the BB.  The event makes it over, but when the event is selected on the BB and opened, the alert is set to "None".
To fix this, simply change all event alert reminders in iCal to "Message" (without the sound) and re-sync using Desktop Manager now the events on your BB have the same alert parameters as in iCal and their alerts now popup when scheduled and they have an audible sound.
Come on, RIM...Mac users deserve better than this.  It took you 12 years to get us a real (well almost real) Desktop Manager, so now give it the same features as you provide in the Windows Desktop Manager.  But since I know nothing in this forum ever makes it to RIM...we'll have to hope they figure this out on their own.

  • Ical events widget

I posted this both in here (since i have a 12") and in the mac os x widget forum
has anyone used the ical events widget? it makes my computer REALLY hot and i'm wondering if it's just my own isolated case. processor goes to 140 degrees with it on. i checked activity monitor and saw that ical was using 60+% of the processor and was also labeled unresponsive even though it was working fine. so i force quitted, deleted the widget, and my cpu temp drops to 117. anyone else have similar results?

THANKS a brody. You made me think hard on this and now I remember what I did with help from http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050422172929402&query=Widgetondesktop.
This is what you have to do to get the functionality I was enquiring about.
    [ Quoted from http://www.macosxhints.com ]
    "Open the Terminal and type
    defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
and press Return. Then logout and log back in again. Now debugging mode is activated. To get a widget off of the Dashboard and onto your desktop, just do the following:
Activate Dashboard by pressing F12 (or whatever key you've assigned to Dashboard).
    Begin dragging the widget.
Press F12 again, before letting up on the mouse button.
Drop the widget wherever you want it.
You can do the same thing in reverse to drag the widget back onto the Dashboard. Also of interest: while a widget is frontmost, you can press Command-R to reload it. (This may be necessary if a widget is buggy and gets messed up somehow.) There's even a nifty Core Image-based twirl effect to accompany the reload.
This isn't really a hidden hack; it's the official way of working on a widget before it's done. However, it's extremely useful -- there are certain widgets that you'd just rather see and use all the time, instead of only in Dashboard mode. Note that the widgets float above all windows, so this trick is most useful if you have some spare desktop space. To disable this mode, repeat the above command, but replace YES with NO, and then logout/login again. Note that you can also restart the Dock to make the changes take effect (the Dock controls the Dashboard)."

  • Upgraded to 10.6.3 and ical most ical events disappeared.

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to 10.6.3 from 10.4.11 and most of my ical events have disappeared. It has kept a handful but as I rely heavily on ical for my day to day tasks and diary this is a disaster!
    All help gratefully received.

    bessp,
...Before upgrading, I manually backed-up to a lacie
If you still have the original backup, you can find the Tiger .ics files in the ~Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources Folder on the lacie.
Open the Sources Folder to reveal Alpha Numeric named folders. These folders contain corestorage.ics files which represent the individual calendars on your Tiger system. The corestoreage.ics files can be copied to the Leopard computer. When the corestorage.ics files are opened on the Leopard computer you will be offered to import them. If you do that be sure to select the option to make a new calendar for each one of the .ics files.
...Can I trash the cache file and .plist from my desktop?
    Yes.
Be sure to log off MobileMe before replacing any calendars, and log on after replacement. When you log back in, you should be informed that this computer has never been synced with MobileMe, and you will be offered to replace the data on MobileMe. That would appear to me to be appropriate since MobileMe apparently no longer contains accurate data.
It may also be beneficial for you to use "Chat" on MobileMe Support. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ >Syncing with MobileMe>Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues>"Chat Now."
    Good Luck.

  • Scripting iCal Events

As part of a school project, my students gather weather data when a specific NASA satellite passes over our school. We have to keep an eye on the schedule we receive and collect our data. Every once in a while we forget and miss an overpass. I decided to enter the satellite overpasses as iCal events and have an alarm sound to remind us. This tedious task of entering the events sounds like a great job for AppleScript. This AppleScript project is a little over my head because I don't understand insides of iCal and AppleScripting.
The satellite schedule comes as text in an email and looks like this:
Date & Time | Satellite Position
Mo Day Year Local UT | view sat azm relative solar sat. position sat
Time | zenith fr. N azimuth zenith lat. long dir
    Local Time = UT + (-6.0)
    9 16 2008 12:19 18 19 | 6.46 104.44 51.37 40.32 39.94 249.13 des
    9 17 2008 13:02 19 02 | 54.05 289.85 117.31 38.45 42.22 239.04 des

The only important info for our observations is the Mo, Day, Year and UT time — the other satellite info is not relevant to our observations.
How would I write a AppleScript that would strip away the unimportant info and create a different event each time for the satellite overpass? The iCal event would need to start 15 minutes before and end 15 minutes after the UT time given.
    TIA

    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oASTID -- Reset delimiter.
on handle_Number(lNumber) -- Manage single digit date values.
if (lNumber < 10) then set lNumber to "0" & lNumber
    return (lNumber as string)
    end handle_Number

You may have to edit the code, as per the delimiters you use / set within 'System Preferences' 'International's 'Formats' 'Dates' and 'Times' configuration panels.

  • Odd error - Automator can't find all ical events

    Simple automator script:
    Get Specified Items
    (which is 1 ical Calendar)
    Event Summary
    (for today)
    View Results
This script Is not able to find the event sceduled for today under given calendar. This problem seems to be intermitten. Normally i set it for event summary for 'This Week'. Most events are found, but some are missing from the results. I don't see any difference between the events found and missing.
I've tried instead of Get Specified Items to Find Ical Items, using the specific event summary, but it misses the same events. I figured it was maybe a spotlight indexing error, but when i search using spotlight the event is retrieved in spotlight results.
I do use .Mac to syncronize my calendars with other macs, could this be the issue? Although i'm not sure why spotlight would still work but automator not.
Anyone else having this problem or know a solution?
    Terry

    "Fixed"???
I can tell you where they OUGHT to be, but if the problem is that they have been moved, you need to ask your friend.
iCal keeps its data in ~/Library/Application Support/iCal, with a sub-folder in the Sources folder for each calendar. The sub-folders do not have user-friendly names! The calendar contents are in files called corestorage.ics, and if you look in the corresponding info.plist file you can see the calendar name.
You could try looking for corestorage.ics files in case they got moved to the wrong place. Alternatively, quit iCal, delete the several com.apple.iCal*.plist files in ~/Library/Preferences, drag folder ~/Library/Application Support/iCal to the desktop and restart iCal. Sometimes this reclaims the data from Sync Services.

  • Share Ical event on same Mac but different user

Is it possible to share Ical Event on the same computer without using .me ??
    thanks

Hmmm... that may accomplish similar/the same results compared to doing it from the terminal. I wonder if iCal is disliking something else.
    Perhaps try:
    - Get rid of the alias and get iCal working 'normally' from the user2 profile
    - Create a calendar in the user2 iCal that matches one you want to share from your profile (for example, 'Home')
    - Figure out what folder name matches the 'Home' calendar on your profile (will be a folder like 'A23H-1B-A124-NA223' or something... Create an alias of that folder and get it into the Calendars folder of user2.
    - Move the Calendar folder for the one you created in step 2 to the Desktop. Copy the name and paste it into the name for the alias.
Now you should have a calendar folder with the same name as one created natively in user2's iCal, but it's pointing at the other folder. You will still have to make sure the folder, alias, AND all the .ics files in the folder have read/write permissions for both users.
Moving foward, this could be an issue - new iCal events created by you may not carry the read/write settings of the other events, but we can cross that bridge if we get there. If you open up user2 after the above and see your events, that alone will be a sweet step forward!

  • How to read iCal events from SQLite Cache file?

I need to figure out how to read event entries in the Cache file stored in /Library/Calenders/ as my actual events have been corrupted due to a file system problem. The example below shows the information I have for each entry, where the event in the entry was Bon Jovi Concert, however I am confused how I can read the date and time of the event, information I believe is stored as 218215639,219613081,219524400,219540600. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    INSERT INTO "ZCALENDARITEM" VALUES(0,NULL,0,NULL,0,5,NULL,6,4039,NULL,0,0,0,0,0,0,2,23,0,0,0,0,6,0,21821563 9,219613081,219524400,219540600,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,'local_AFB8D342-2DAE-4F A1-A9A6-3FA9B28B5C7C','Bon Jovi Concert',NULL,NULL,NULL,'Europe/London',NULL,'0E17BBB6-0E76-4024-8DD7-60E43D38D 35B');

OK, here we go ... I hope. I have tried it on my iCal, with about 2000 entries, and it worked. I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.
Make a new text file from sql as before, but using this modified command to get additional data for each event:
sqlite3 Desktop/Hope 'select ZSTARTDATE, ZCALENDARITEM.ZTITLE, ZENDDATE, ZNODE.ZTITLE, ZISALLDAY, ZRECURRENCERULE, ZISDETACHED from ZCALENDARITEM inner join ZNODE on ZCALENDARITEM.ZCALENDAR = ZNODE.Z_PK where ZSTARTDATE not null' >hope.txt
I suggest you make a new user account, then copy the text file hope.txt and the script to the Public/Drop Box folder for that account. Log on to the new account and copy the two files from the drop box to the Desktop. Start iCal and make new calendars to match those in your ordinary account. Double click the script to open it in Script Editor and CHANGE THE DATE RANGE in the "set ThePeriod" line. Stand well back and click the run button. Every 50 records processed it will pop up a progress box, which will pop down again after a second. Go for lunch.
When it is finished see if things look OK in iCal. If they do export each of the calendars, copy them to the drop box of your normal account and return to your normal account to import them.
If there is an error make a note of the error message and line number, find that line in the text file, and post it here with a couple of lines either side.
Note that for recurring items iCal normally only makes a single event, the first occurrence, then uses a recurrence rule to calculate if the event should be displayed in the current window. If there are any recurring events in the period you have selected where the first occurrence is before the period they will not be recreated. Where however you have changed a single occurrence of a recurring event iCal makes a new, detached, event. Any of these in the period will be detected. If their original event was also in the period they will now appear in the iCal display as duplicates. For easy spotting of these, I have prefixed "XX-" to the title of any detached events.
