ICal generated clones spontaneously

During the past two days my Macbook Pro sporadically displayed an iCal error message that a server error occurred. Sometimes two or three error messages serially.
This Monday morning I find my desktop iMac, on the same home local network, has duplicate entries for every iCal event now and henceforth, plus dating back to September of last year. Entries prior to September, 2011 are in triplicate now. The Macbook Pro suffers exactly the same added entries now.
My iPhone has duplicate calendar entries now, and maybe some triplicated, too. I decided to invest my time in posting this issue rather than skimming through month after month of iCal entries on each of the three Apple products to detail the scope of the new problem precisely.
I would like advice on restoring single entries throughout.
Lengthy discourse about what iCal does of its own volition may illustrate for the wider audience. I'm merely seeking resumption of the ordinary way of things, which has been my experience for a year with the two Macs and for three months plus with the iPhone.
====
BTW, Support Discussion denies me an option to list all three products affected, so I choose to list the senior Mac.

Further scrutiny informs me that I did not change time zone to match the home networked iMac when I and my Macbook Pro returned from a West Coast trip.
After posting initially, the Discussions sidebar updated with useful suggested links to similar past discussions. I'm working through two of them, while still annoyed by the distraction. The most helpful thus far is the MobileMe: Resolving Duplicate Calendars …

  • I get this error with iCal "generates a conflict" when synced with my Yahoo calendar. Help Please

I updated to Maverick "Mistake" and have been getting this error since "generates a conflict" with the new iCal and my Yahoo calanders. There werent any problems before the update. Any suggestions as to how to fix it ? Does anyone know how to go back to the last version of iCal ?
    Thank you for ANY help

Given that the calendars are hosted by Yahoo, I would remove the accounts, then re-add them back.
That shouldn't lose anything, but I don't use Yahoo so I can't say for sure. They use a standard CalDAV server, so all should be ok.

  • On compilation in J2ME WTK, Midlet code generates clone() method

I did try to compile a MIDlet which creates a user defined object in J2ME WTK. The compiled code has Object.clone() method invocation. However clone() method is not available in J2ME CLDC API. So the code results in java.lang.NoSuchMethodError and subsequently the emulator crashes. Any idea how to compile the MIDlet so that clone() method is not put in the compiled code ?
    regards,
    Ashwath

I did include few J2SE classes, which contained clone() method. I removed them, now problem solved.

  • ICal generating recurring conflicts until iPod is full

I followed the instructions pasted below and it fixed my "disappearing October" problem; however, every time I open iCal now, it presents me with hundreds of conflicts and I have resolved them so many times I almost know them by heart. Even after I resolve them, I keep getting the Conflict window. And worse: my iPod, which was never more than a third full is now full beyond capacity and won't sync using iTunes. Please, help!
Here's the advice from MadisonP (posted Aug 27, 2010) that I followed:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Sounds like you have a bad cache in iCal or a damaged iCal database. Are you running TimeMachine or making backups? Its a very good idea for any computer user: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
If you information is still not there you can restore it from a backup. If you have no backup (and the information is not on an iPhone / iPod / iPad or MobileMe) then your best bet would be a data recovery company.
    Hope that helps.
    MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iTunes 11.1.3 (8) / iPod iOS 6.1.5

Deleting my caches per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481, and restoring and rebooting a couple of times, seems to have shut up the warnings, at least for now, but there's still some data loss, e.g., two meetings on 6/21 and 6/22 don't show up any more on my main Mac, but do show up on both my sacrificial iOS4 iPod, and my real 3.1.3 iPhone. (I’m also having trouble with a Note failing to sync from my iPad, but I haven’t tried that yet since nuking my caches.)

  • Articles moved from Nokia Developer Wiki generated clone and crazy articles

    Hello,
I am completely disappointed because my articles from Nokia Developer Wiki was moved to TechNet Wiki and I wasn´t notified....and of course it do mess, because I saved my articles to publish here and I just published some of them...and now I have cloned
articles!! The owner should be notified and the article should be set to the owner profile, at least for how has it here...
Some writers from Nokia Developer Wiki moved to here and I think the work should be respected, I saw the credits at bottom but wasn´t linked to the profile, really sad....
And some articles has a crazy look!

First of all, that's pretty awesome (the monthly winners and whatnot). They did that 100% manually. We'll see if we can find them and if they want to continue anything like that for Windows Dev articles on TNWiki.
Second of all, it's kind of crazy. There are ZERO links from those weekly and monthly winner lists to your profile or any of the articles! Very high contrast to our Guru awards, where every article and author is called out and each one has a link.
So I can't find articles from either of you on the Nokia wiki. Do you have a profile link for that site?
    Thanks!

  • ICal doesn't show delegation, and generates date and time error messages in /var/log/system.log

I have a problem with my iCal, when I use my caldav account, I can only see my own calendar on my MBA, on my co-workers MBP it works fine with both my account and his. My co-worker can't see other calendars than his own when he uses iCal on my laptop.
We can reproduce this problem on his computer by setting Location to Automatic rather than Amsterdam, then after deleting iCal's cache files, the caldav account and setting the Location back to Amsterdam solves the problem for him.
It does not solve the problem for me (or several other co-workers). We've been looking at this for a few weeks, and we can not find any clear pattern why certain machines have this problem and others don't.
All machines (both affected and unaffected) are running Mac OS 10.7.2 with iCal 5.0.1
I've spoken to Apple support over the phone (in the Netherlands), unfortunately, they couldn't help with this.
So far we've tried numerous location and language settings, but on affected machines nothing appears to solve the delegation problem (which we assume to be connected to the error messages iCal generates)
Starting iCal yeilds the following error messages in /var/log/system.log:

iCal generates the following error every 30 seconds. How do I fix this? In the current set-up I am syncing a calendar with Google calendar.

To answer this I am going to assume that "start_date" and "end_date" are DATE datatype
Assuming also the user is actually inputting the entire date format of :p_date as 'YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS'
If that is the case then the following will solve your problem:
    select * from table_name
where trunc(to_date(:p_date,'YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS')) between start_date and end_dateBasically whatever the format the :p_date is coming in as needs to be used in your TO_DATE function.
If date is '01/31/2011' then format would need to be 'MM/DD/YYYY'
Let me know if this helps.
    Thanks!
p.s. Depending on what you doing, you may need to apply
    between TRUNC(start_date) and TRUNC(end_date)

  • Create new event in iCal that triggers an applescript

    Dear applescripters
I am trying to write a script that creates an event in applescript that launches an applescript.
    This is the code:
    tell application "iCal"
    tell calendar "Verstuur"
    set theCurrentDate to current date
set time of theCurrentDate to (time of theCurrentDate) + 60
    set verstuur to make new event at end with properties {start date:theCurrentDate, end date:theCurrentDate + 1 * minutes}
    tell verstuur
    make new open file alarm at end with properties {trigger interval:0, filepath:POSIX path of "file://localhost/Users/jschaafsma/Desktop/Verstuurfilmpje"}
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
when iCal tries to trigger the script iCal generates an error that the file Verstuurfilmpje is not found.
Any ideas what i am doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Jschaafsma

Well, for one, your file path isn't valid.
    … filepath:POSIX path of "file://localhost/Users/jschaafsma/Desktop/Verstuurfilmpje"}
First off, POSIX path of takes a Mac-style (i.e. colon-delimited) path or alias and converts it to an POSIX path, so either you need to drop the 'POSIX path of' code, or pass in a Mac-style path.
Secondly, even if you were to use 'POSIX path of', your path specification is invalid anyway - you haven't passed in a POSIX path you've passed in a file URL, which is different. A POSIX path of that file would look like:
    filepath: "/Users/jschaafsma/Desktop/Verstuurfilmpje"
So rewrite this line and you should be set.

  • Change iCal's default email message text for invitations?

Does anyone know how to modify the default text strings in the e-mail message that iCal generates for invitations? The default text is pretty useless, especially for Outlook users who receive an .ics attachment rather than a "link below."
If I knew where the text strings were stored, I could go in to change them.
    Thanks

  • ICal Sync Issue

I have a Macbook Pro running OS Leopard.  I have IPhone 4S and IPAD2, both running latest IOS 5.  Any event I enter in ICAL in my Macbook shows up in my IOS devices.  However, what's in the calendars in my IOS devices will not sync to my Macbook.  I tried a solution I found at http://askville.amazon.com/iphone-ical-sync/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=15018816 but this did not do anything.  Appreciate any help anyone can provide.

I had the same issue. Resetting the sync history didn't fix it. I switched to syncing only a single, brand new calendar that wasn't published to an external server. This worked. . I then exported my main calendar and imported it to this new calendar. Everything still worked.
I then added in all my other calendars. All of these are subscribed calendars (read only), and I had about 7 of them plus the iCal generated Birthdays calendar. This worked too.
Finally, I switched iTunes to sync "All Calendars" and published the new main calendar I created in the first step to my home server. At this point things broke again...items created on the iPhone wouldn't sync. I removed "All Calendars" and manually selected every calendar in the list (so it's the same data now, but if I add a new calendar it won't automatically sync). This got things working again.
I'm not sure if that would have done it the first time, but it has fixed things now.

  • ICal still not showing proper DST information after applying patch.

    Hi All,
When will this DST nightmare end? :)
Okay, here is the situation. I have applied the DST patch as documented in Metalink Doc ID 406289.1.
    Patch 5862386
Here is an iCal generated by Oracle. I had moved the date on the server upto March 12, 2007 a day after the DST change is supposed to take effect. My development team is telling me that Oracle is supplying an iCal with incorrect timezone data.

I have access to a planning environment that has been patched with .102 and IE8 is working fine with the colouring of cells.
Did you definitely delete the planning web application tmp directory and cleared all the caches from the browser
Have you tried rolling back the patch to see if it fixes the issue.
    Cheers

  • ICal won't start up! unexpectedly quits...

As soon as i start up iCal, it immediately shuts down and gives me the msg that "The application iCal has unexpectedly quit"
    what do i do?

I really don't know what else I can do, but I STOPPED using iCal - I am giving up.
Here is a short description of what happens exactly, I hope that someone at Apple is reading this to enlighten me. By the way I trashed everything and wanted to start from scratch - yes, I was willing to lose all data for iCal to work. But no success, I am back to diary and pencil ...
    Okay, here we go:
    1. Upon firing up, it stays for 6 sec and quits unexpectedly (this we knew already!)
    2. Under ~library/application support/iCal/sources, iCal generates a 25 NEW CALENDARs the first time and then one calender extra each time. THIS IS CRAZY. For the short moment I can have a peek in iCal, I see iCal has laid down a new calendars (why??)
    3. I trashed com.apple.iCal under Cache, but no difference AND this folder has 2 subfolders (incoming and temp files) which are empty.
    4. I trashed the library prefs for iCal com.apple.iCal.plist, fired iCal up, same problem!
I checked the UNIX command s at the Terminal, it says this:
    Welcome to Darwin!
    c211-28-65-113:~ hisham$ /Previous\ Systems/Previous\ System\ 1/usr/bin/calendar; exit
    calendar: no calendar file: ``calendar''
    logout
But I can't figure out more than what I have done.
Any advice will be highly appreciated!
    Cheers
    Hishm

  • Apparent ical sync issue

Wondering if someone can explain 2, similar console messages I am repeatedly getting. They both seemingly reference my birthday calendar. Nevertheless, I cannot figure out what the sync-ing issue is so that I can fix the problem.
Thanks for the help. Below are both messages:
iCalExternalSync[1137] [ICalExternalSync ]Encountered you referenced the following records (in a relationship) but did not actually push them: ("node_BirthdayCalendar/p2")
iCalExternalSync[1137] [ICalExternalSync ]NSException name:ISyncInvalidRecordException reason:you referenced the following records (in a relationship) but did not actually push them: ("node_BirthdayCalendar/p2")

  • Synchronization Failed from isync Conduit iCal

I'm having difficulty syncing iCal and a Palm Z22. First, I export my calendar in iCal format from Sungard/SCT which is used at my school. While importing into iCal I get the following message:
"Some of the events in this calendar have alarm that open files or applications"
which is related to Sungard/SCT sending email reminders I believe. I choose:
    "Remove Unsafe Alarms"
When I try to sync, I get:
"Synchronization Failed from isync Conduit iCal generated exception

Got it. That's very clearly a problem you're going to have to address at the source - the export stage - rather than from iCal after import.
Have you spoken with the campus technology staff familiar with SCT Banner or SCT Campus Pipeline about the issue? Surely, they must be familiar with 'standards-based' calender export.
The problem here is that there are SO many component parts: the SCT program, the exported files, iCal, iSync and Sync Services. It could be that Apple has failed to properly account for and handle something produced by the SCT programs, but it seems far more likely that the export files are non-standard. The exported records are essentially considered 'mal-formed' by Sync Services, and there is no way that you can diagnose and correct the issue on a hit-or-miss basis.
The whole push-pull or put-get technology behind Sync Services is complex and at times mysterious, and made infinitely more complex when you cross platforms, despite the existence of widely touted 'standards' for data interchange.
I would start by hunting down the local Banner or Campus Pipeline expert, and asking that individual why the data is not 'synchronizable' in its current form.

  • Curious ICal Sync Issue

New to the board and Thanks for the expertise here! I have 3 macs and regularly sync - ONE problem. My PB G4 with OS 10.4.5 everything else syncs fine with my office computer EXCEPT ICal?! I get this message:
An inconsistency detected on .Mac for your Calendars data prevented your sync from completing! You should consider resetting .Mac from a computer with good data.
I've tried the suggestion several times - no luck. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
