ICal GMT bug

I prefer to use google calendar at work, since iCal does not work on Government Networks. But I like having iCal for its printing capabilities. Solution... I create everything in google calendar and I have it sync to my iCal. Problem:
iCal changes all my events originally created in google calendar to GMT time, so everything is about 5 hours off. I searched the web for answers and got nothing other then alot of unresolved complaints. I tried switching my google calendar timezones around to different countries and re-importing everything into the iCal, but this did not work. So I tried the opposite by changing my iCal timezone to different countries, then deleted and re-imported my google calendar. No dice. I even selected and deselected Timezone support in the settings of iCal, and repeated the early process.
If you guys could fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated and probably save my life! If its not fixed my loyalties to apple will get swaded by google and windows.

This is a relatively new issue for me on my phone which I've had for well over a year, so I agree that this is an iOS operating issue (I am on iOS 8.1.2).
I found something that works (for me).  All of my iCalendar appointments sync through gmail.  The issue has been that on my iphone, the appointments can be seen as EST (my time zone) and GMT is visible if I click on the event to view all the details.  If I go to edit it, the time changes to GMT.  Since I'm never quite sure of the difference between EST and GMT, it makes it tough to change an appointment to the correct time (if the appointment needs to be edited).
After searching around on forums, I couldn't find a relevant answer.  The ONLY thing that I do to fix it for me was go to settings on my phone, go to the iCloud section, Share location, and click it on.  Ever since then, the GMT has disappeared from my calendar.
My other settings which may or may not be relevant: 1) On iCloud setting, I have Calendars turned off (I use google calendar, so why share with iCloud?); 2) I have Time Zone override (in Calendars section) turned off.
I have no idea what will happen when I travel to another time zone, but I am happy for now!

  • ICal invitations bug

Hi, I noticed that when my girlfriend sent me an invitation from her .mac to my .mac address, when I accepted, it returned the response to her work email address. Looking at the event and clicking on the drop down triangle on the organiser, it shows both her email addresses (from my Address Book) with the work one first. So I presume the mail response goes to the first email address listed rather than the address used to send the invitation which would be the correct behaviour.
No help requested/expected - just an observation.
    S

I can now explain (I think) why nobody else seems to be able to reproduce this bug - it's caused by using Entourage X with iCal! Invitations sent TO Entourage X are broken when passed into iCal on the recipient's Mac.
Solution: upgrade to Entourage 2004 or switch to Mail. The SENDER's mail program doesn't seem to have an affect.

  • ICal intel bug?

I manage a network of about 20 macs. I had a problem today with 2 users and iCal. They launched iCal and suddenly the calendars have dissappeared. or have they? Technically they havent. the data is still in ~User/Library/Application Data/iCal. And when I open up iCal the info pain displays the name of the last calendar they had used. But the calendars pain is empty. If i switch to day or week view iCal crashes. I took one users data directory and copied it over to a ppc machine, launch ical and it worked with out a hitch. all of the machines are on os x 10.4.8 and current as of about a week or 2 ago.
    any ideas?

Just found out that it might be not an intel bug - just a corrupted calendar...
It sounds like you have a data corruption of some sort in your user data. Make a new user and try using iCal in the new user account. If this works ok then the problem is within your user account.
If so, try these things in order to see if they will help:
    0.
    Backup you iCal data.
Open iCal and go to the File menu and choose Back up Database... to save a copy of your calendar data to your Desktop, just in case something goes wrong.
    1.
    Refresh your preference files.
There are some preference files related to iCal in your user's Library > Preferences. These are called:
    com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
Quit iCal and move these files to your desktop. When you start iCal they will be re-created in the Preferences folder with the default values as needed. This does not affect your calendar data, just preference choices.
You should go into iCal preferences and make any changes you want there after doing this.
If this solves your problem there is no need to do any of the following.
    2.
    Check the calendars in turn.
In iCal un-check all the calendars in the list. You can do this by Command-Clicking one calendar's check box.
Then do the following with each calendar in turn: Check the calendar's check box and see if your problems still exist. If iCal seems to be ok, then un-check the check box and select the next calendar. If the symptoms still exist then this calendar is probably corrupted.
If you find a corrupted calendar in iCal, select it in the calendar list and from the File menu choose Export.. and export a copy of the calendar to your Desktop. Still in iCal, from the Edit menu choose Delete to remove the calendar from iCal. Then from the File menu choose Import... and select the 'Import an iCal file', find the calendar file you saved to your Desktop and import it.
(BTW The iCal calendar data is stored in your user's Library > Application Support > iCal.)
    3.
    Reset sync history.
If you have sync'd your calendar data there may be a corruption in the data stored by Sync Services which will be passed back into iCal when it syncs next.
Open iSync and from it's preferences select 'Reset Sync History' and in the confirmation dialog choose 'Reset Sync History' again.
I hope this helps to solve your problems.
    Best wishes
    Christoph

  • ICal syncing bug?

    Hello,
I don't know if I am posting in a right place, but..
I have an application, which syncs with iCal. And sometimes I get into trouble:
    Situation:
    a) in iCal is a Calendar an task in it, pushed by my application before.
    b) my application deletes those two records
    c) my app creates new identical calendar (with new id of cource) and a event in it.
    Result:
iCal is still showing deleted empty calendar. It is not possible to delete it manually from iCal. It gones, if I turn iCal off and start it over.
If I pull the truth from sync services, when iCal is showing deleted calendar, there is no such info about it.
Syncrospector logs information is available if required.
I wonder if this is a bug of iCal, or something I do not understand.
    Thanks for advices.
    MR.
    PB G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   ical v. 2.0.3

There is virtually no one here who would understand what you are asking about. Push, pull, the truth, SyncServices and Syncrospector are terms almost unheard of outside of the developer community.
Write to me off line and I will send you a link to post your question to.

  • IOS 4.2.8 iCal Alarm Bug?

When I create an event in iCal on my iPhone 4 (Verizon iOS 4.2.8) I will set an alarm to notify me of the event, set for an hour before. The alarm/notification does not go off until 3 hours after the start of the event. Has anyone else experienced this?

Figured this out myself. This is not a bug. Apple has an option for "time zone support" in Settings for iCal in case you are in a different time zone than where you originally created an event in iCal. By default this is turned on, and is set to Cupertino - I am located in New York. Hence the oddly timed notifications.

  • ICal import bug when creating calendars in iPhoto 2011

    Hi,
I just created a calendar in the new iPhoto 2011 and imported an iCal calendar to the project.
What I discovered is that it only imports one event per day to the calendar in iPhoto, although the calendar in iCal has sometimes more than one event per day.
Fx. in my calendar in iCal I have two events on a certain date, f.x my mothers birthday and my son's birthday on January 18th. However when importing this calendar to the calendar project in iPhoto only my mothers name gets imported. This was not an issue in iPhoto 2010.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Definitely a bug and unforgivable given the time of year - I usually order a couple of calendars as Christmas presents - If I can't order them in time for Christmas then Apple have lost the business.
It seems to me that iLife 11 was rushed out for Christmas. First the appalling upgrade problems and then the realisation that Calendars were not included. Two patches later and we still have an un-useable Calendar.
The worst part about it is, it's not obvious - I wonder how many people have ordered calendars and not noticed the missing Birthdays. I can see a lot of disappointed friends and relatives next year whose birthdays will be missed.
My only hope is an old backup of my Macbook - pre upgrade. If I can boot from that disk, import my recent photos, import the latest version of the iCal Calendar events, I can recreate the Calendar with iPhoto '09. Not sure I can be bothered,

  • ICal Feature, Bug, or Configuration Problem?

We have a school calendar running on iCal Server (10.6.4) called "CS Calendars". Each user has one default calendar when the account is created on the local MacBook (10.6.4). Many users have created additional calendars under "CS Calendars" so that they will show up as "busy" if they schedule stuff on the other calendars.
    Here's the problem...
A users sends an "invite" to another user. That user accepts the invite. The appointment shows up initially under "(username)'s Calendar" under "CS Calendars". The user now wants to change the appointment to another of their calendars under "CS Calendars". As soon as they select the other calendar an error message pops up saying:
The server responded with an error.
The request for (Name of Invite) in (Name of OTHER Calendar) in account "CS Calendars" failed.
    The server responded with
    "HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway"
    to operation CalDavMoveEntityQueueableOperatioin.
I have googled that error operation and can't find but 6 links on the entire internet that has any reference to it and some of them are duplicates.
Is this a prohibited operation by CalDAV? (The user SWEARS to me that she was able to do this last year - we have had 4 iterations of 10.6 since then) Is this a bug in CalDAV? or (more likely) Do I not have iCal Server configured correctly OR the client misconfigured?
    Thanks for any help.

Apple Engineering is looking into this issue. Not sure what the problem is but it appears that if you have a user with an iCal acccount created via the "automatic" method this type of behavior occurs. The fact that it was working until recently makes me wonder if a software update broke something?
What has worked so far is to delete the old iCal account. Create a new one but use "CalDAV" as "Account Type". Then enter port # 8443 and check the SSL box (we have both SSL and non-SSL access to our calendar). Create the account.
Unfortunately, as soon as you do another error message is thrown stating that the username or password is incorrect. When you go back to account settings, the Password Field is BLANK. Re-entering the password seems to then fix the issue.
I didn't pick up on the problem because I only have one calendar and don't move appointments around like my users do. I'll report what Tech Support finds out.

  • ICal reminders bug

I am posting this in case it is of help to anyone or in case anyone knows of a fix.  I have discovered what I think is a bug in iCal on Lion which prevents reminders showing on their due date.  Steps to re-create are as follows:
    1. Create a reminder (not an event) with a due date of today.
    2. Go to iCal Preferences / Advanced and select 'Hide reminders that are due after dates visible in the calendar'.
    3. In iCal select 'Day' view.
    4. Select 'Today' to show today's appointments and reminders.
Notice the reminder you created is not visible.
    5. Select tomorrow's date from the date picker or the advance arrow.
Notice the reminder with a due date of today is now visible.
This does not happen if the calendar application is used on iCloud itself so I am deducing that this is a bug in iCal on Lion.
Has any anyone come across this who has a fix?

    andylel,
Yes, I've notice exactly the same behavior.
Addionally, if you have an iOS 5 device and an iCloud account, the item in the Reminders app will be listed as an "All Day" task. In that item's list the item will have no time associated with it. It's definitely a bug in iCal. The bug also affects third part apps that sync with iCloud, such as BusyCal and BusyTodo.

    Bud

  • ICal possible bug: cannot select appointment, quit, or create a new one

    Hello there,
I'm having this weird issue with iCal where after some time of inputting appointments and changing them around, one of the appointments seems to remain locked together with the mouse. In other words, no matter what I try to do I cannot because that one appointment keeps following my mouse. When I left click and don't move my mouse around, nothing happens. When I right click my mouse button, the column gets selected, but nothing else happens. When I left click and drag as if I wanted to create a new appointment somewhere, the one blocked appointment keeps popping up right there and the new appointment never gets created.
This is beyond my understanding so I'm asking for help. I have already trashed preferences and followed another post "how to completely reset ical" which was not entirely resolved, but I have deleted everything they listed there and I can't get rid of all the appointments. (This is quite ironic, because I've lost iCal databases quite a few times and was never able to get them back, and now I'm having trouble messing it up!)
I have also recorded my screen to give you a better visual to the blah blah above.
You can find it here: http://www.tigps.org/icalbug.mov [1MB file, 30 seconds]

    redsteven1,
Thank you for replying. It is indeed a one-of-a-kind behavior. It has however fixed itself. It has not happened in a month now. I have not upgraded or otherwise changed anything on that computer.

My ical has started to show some weird dates..
an appt i have on the 8/5/06 shows like this

    to 08G05G06 at 215pm
This is now applicable on every apptmoint since i started using iCal, circa 2003
Anyone got any suggestions - I am using an Intel MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz.
    Thanks

    jeloz,
Next, I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang. Pay particular attention to this paragraph: For garbled text, the most common cause is corrupt font caches. These can easily be cleared from the system with Font Finagler. Download and run the application. First click the "Inspect Font Cache Files" button, then the "Clean Font Cache Files" button. You must then restart your Mac. Other utilities that can clear your font caches are Cocktail and OnyX. These last two are powerful utilities which can do far more than just cleaning font caches. If you are not familiar with these applications, then I would caution you in their use as you could cause your Mac to become non functional, requiring a reinstall of the OS. Font Finagler is the safer choice as it performs only the one function.;~)

  • ICal Graphical Bug?

    hello all (my first post),
    http://homepage.mac.com/nickbaines/PhotoAlbum1.html
the above is a screenshot of my desktop. the strange box you can see is the same size of the info pane of whichever task/calendar entry i am currently editing in ical.
it is always there whether i expose the desktop or just minimise any open windows. if i click out of the task/calendar entry so the info pane just shows the name of the calendar selected on the right, then all is fine. no box.
it doesn't seem to occur when the info pane is detached (as clicked in the window menu).
has anybody experienced this before? i couldn't find any mention of it in google or the forums here.
i look forward to hearing from any/all of you.
    thanks,
    nick.
ps am running latest versions of everything, including iCal 2.03
    12" G4 PB 1.5GHz 1.25GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    nick,
    Strange indeed!
Download and reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC.
If that is unsuccessful, Archive and Install 10.4 and then reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC: You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically imports existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.Let us know what happens.

  • ICal search bug

After upgrading to Tiger and iCal 2.0.2, events prior to the date of the update are not searchable any longer (although they do appear in the iCal window). Re-typing these events by hand allows the search function in iCal to be find them. Very annoying ...

    Hi Carlos, welcome to Discussions.
This is a topic that has come up before here. Doing a search for 'search' I came across a link to this page iCal: Unable to find events created prior to 10.4.2 update which probably would have saved you some annoyance.

  • ICal printing bug and workaround

    iCal 8.0 (2026) OS X 10.10 French
When I try to print a calendar and in my iCal preferences "start week on" is set to monday, the printed calendar starts with tuesday
and when I try to print a calendar and in my iCal preferences "start week on" is set to sunday, the printed calendar starts with monday.
In my case, to set "start week on" to sunday is a workaround.
    Thanks for reading me.
    Best regards and cheers.

This issue is driving me nuts. Apple doesn't seem to care. I reported the issue to Apple the day Yosimite was released and a fix has not been in any of the updates.
Note also that the calendar does not print correctly from iCloud in weekly view.
Another issue is that you cannot print the date of the printing of the calendar. Often I print several calendars a week and by Sunday I don't know what is the latest copy printed. I have asked them to fix that as well.

  • ICal display bug?

If you are on the Monthly view and you create an event that spans multiple days but have specific start and end times (i.e. not "All Day Events"), for example, 9am Tuesday to 1pm Wednesday, then iCal fails to display the event spanning the days. It only shows the event for the first day which is very misleading.
It would be far better (and mean I could use iCal as a proper diary of events) if this was fixed.

I was going to paste this exact same problem. In MS Outlook, if I create a calendar entry that starts at 1 p.m. on Friday and ends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, when I look at calendar view for the month, it shows up on all those days.
I had this exact same problem. I had an event coded for those times in iCal. Got a call from a friend asking if I could help out Saturday night, went into iCal month view, and it was all clear on Saturday, so I added the event.
Now I am double booked. Stupid Software.

  • ICal sharing bug?

    Hello everyone,
Here is my problem with iCal: One of my calendars is shared with a friend and also made public calendar. My friend mistakenly made some change on my calendar and I had to revert it. Anyway, it was only then that I found out the sharing control setting of iCal is not functioning as it should. I tried turning off his edit ability and also removed the check on Public Calendar but somehow it doesn't work, a few seconds after I did so everything was still the same, the calendar is still public calendar and my friend still have view & edit rights (I switched his right to View only but no use).
Does anyone have the same problem?
Btw, my system is iMac late 2012 with Mountain Lion 10.8.3; I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3 both of which using the same iCal.
    Thank you.
