ICal, google CalDAV and iPod sync

I've got iCal syncing with google calendar and for the most part it is working. But for some reason the google calendar does not sync to my iPod Classic 160GB. It shows up in iTunes, and did show up once on the iPod for about a second before disappearing forever. Anybody got it working?

Simply put, it works

  • ICal Google CalDav to MobileMe and iPad Synch dis-connect.  HELP?

I recently added a Google CalDav account, so my iCal would synch with my new Android device. That part works fine. He is my question: iCal events using this Google account will NOT synch with either my iPad OR MobileMe.
    What gives?

I think the answers are partly already in your question...
MobileMe has the important limitation that you either sync all calendars, or none. So, you are not going to be able to sync some of the calendars using one MobileMe account, and the others using another account. However, I can see two workarounds:
    1) Use MobileMe to sync your work calendars, and Google to sync your personal calendars, or vice-versa.
    2) If you really want to only use MobileMe, you could create two user accounts on your personal Mac, one for each MobileMe account. Your personal user account would only have your personal calendars, and your work user account would only have your work calendars. If you still wanted to be able to display your work calendars on your personal user account, you could publish the work calendars to the work iDisk (using the procedure in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2071 to password-protect them) and subscribe to them on your personal user account. But, as you pointed out, you would not be able to edit them; you would have to switch to the work user account to make changes to the work calendars.
    Hope this solves your problem
    P.S.: I have 12 calendars, so I win

  • ICal/Google Calendar no longer sync since April 23 2011

In the last week of April iCal/Google calendar sync has quit working.  When trying to sync the iCal and the Google.  The message I get is that  "iCal found the CalDAV server 'www.google.com', but couldn't log in with the user name "XXXXXX". Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then try again.  I originally noticed the bouncing iCal icon about April 23-24 and at the time it said that the account [email protected] could not update. I re-entered the information for the account and it still ddid not update.  I deleted the account on iCal hoping that a re-enter of all the information would get things up and running and it has not.
I have looked over the available responses to similar problems and none of them have made any difference.
    Please always include:
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
Program and version you use to access Google Calendar (e.g. Internet Explorer 7 or Outlook 2003):  Safari 5.0.5 (6533.21.1) and Google Chrome 11.0.696.57 and iCal Version 4.0.4 (1395.7)
I also cannot set up the account on the iPad (I was hoping to do so as a work around).  Interestingly enough, my wife who subscribes to my Google Calendar as a delegate still gets the updates and things are working for her on her iMac using iCal.

There is a big discussion on this topic on the google calendar forum: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?tid=7f08411ae09ca8da&hl=en
    As I wrote there:
I'm suffering the same, but I have some more information about it.  I have multiple delegates, so I have had the "good fortune" to be able to have some of them go bad and still have others to experiment with.
The ones that have gone bad are those where I made a change in iCal and then tried to refresh.
When I made changes on my google calendars I was still able to refresh in iCal and have the change show up.  But as soon as I made a change in iCal, the refresh gave that error message.
Also, I just downloaded the newest OS (OS 5) for my iPod touch (gen. 3).  That was yesterday afternoon.. and yesterday evening is when I first noticed this problem.  I can't imagine it's simply coincidence.
I just discovered one more thing.  Even the calendars that don't work both ways continue to work one way; changes made on Google Calendar continue to show up in iCal, even though the error message shows up that it can't contact the server or has the wrong address.  It's almost like the relationship has turned into "subscriptions" rather than "delegates".
I have restarted my iMac and repaired permissions with no success.
    iMac running 10.6.8

  • ICloud iCal different colours and not syncing macbook

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my calendars.  On my iphone (ios5) the iCloud calendars are different colours to those on my macbook (also called iCloud calendars) and they don't sync.  Anything I put into my phone calendar does not ever appear on my mac book although the ones from my mac do appear on the iphone.  The problem is that my Macbook thinks that the calendars are icloud but my phone thinks they are 'My Mac' with email address in brackets.
I don't know.  Does that make any sense?
Ready to give up on this whole i Cloud thing, but not sure how it works without!  I would be quite happy to manually sync everything!
Thanks in advance for any Help!!

    Hi PersonB
I am having the same problem!  Have you sorted it out yet?  I had my icloud turned off for a while but now have an ipdad and wanted to try it again.  Still different calendar colours on my mac and not syncing...
    Annoying!
Hope someone out there can help!

  • ICal crashes iTunes on iPod sync

I bleed Apple juice. I trust Apple and own nothing but Apples. Still, I've come to the conclusion that iCal is just the worst program Apple has ever created and really shouldn't be offered until it's been fixed. I've written repeatedly about how slow it's become and no one has an answer. My new problem is iTunes gets hung up while "syncing contacts and calendars." I have to believe it's this awful calendar program that's getting hung up, not the solid contacts program. If I try to exit, it just completely locks up. I have to force quit iTunes, then as soon as I hook up my iPod again, I'm in the same position.
To make matters worse, I've made the mistake of trusting Apple and iCal. Last December I moved all the tracking of my hours and projects for my small buisness into iCal and it just keeps getting worse and worse!
Does anyone know if there's any relief in Leopard? I've got the OS but I'm waiting to load it until I finish my current Final Cut projects. Knowing iCal's problems were solved would make it worth the wait.
Alternately, does anyone know of a good calendar program that might accept be capable of importing iCal files so I don't loose this whole year's info?

    Cathy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
In your case, How to reset .Mac Sync, may be helpful:
Occasionally, syncing with .Mac may not behave as expected, causing a sync to take longer than expected, or for data to not sync successfully between computers. When troubleshooting situations such as this, resetting .Mac Sync data is a good step to take. This clears out all current sync data on .Mac.

  • Google CalDAV and Default Alert Time

I was successfully able to set up one of my Google calendars on my iPhone 3G running 3.0 using CalDAV, but I notice that regardless of what the alert setting is on Google, the iPhone defaults to a 10 minutes before alert setting. I gathered that alert settings aren't properly supported by CalDAV sync, but wondered if there was any way to set the iPhone to default to "no alert" in these instances? I use the calendars a lot, and the alerts are going off constantly.
    Thanks!

Michael, starting with Mavericks, the Preferences in Calendar do not allow you to change the default time from 9:00 AM to any other time. The only way to modify the alert time is on an entry-by-entry basis using "Custom...". I want the default time to be something other than 9:00 AM so I don't have to change it in every entry.

  • Banshee and iPod sync

I've searched everywhere and it looks like I'm either the only person unable to sync my iPod (add music and playlists) with Banshee, or I'm the only person trying it.
Banshee sees my iPod - but I cannot add new files to it, and although it allows me to create playlists, the playlists don't show on my iPod.
I know there are other alternatives out there that have worked for me on Arch (gtkpod, yamipod) - but I really want to use banshee on Arch, and so far I can only get Banshee working with other distros (Ubuntu, Fedora).  Can someone please help me??

also, how are you trying to transfer files onto the device? With me it will not allow me to access fat partitions saying I don't have the permissions so I need to either su or sudo.

  • ITunes upgrade and iPod syncing issues

I opened itunes and it said there was an upgrade for it. I installed it and when I plug in my ipod, it syncs, then when I try to sync it again, it does not. on the initial opening of itunes I noticed that windows has the ipod drive listed as "G". upon syncing it disappears. I unplugged the ipod and then plugged it back in. windows again recognizes the ipod and the ipod automatically syncs when connected so it can find it in itunes. as soon as its done syncing, again it disappears from windows. there has to be a fix for this. as far as I can tell its in the itunes software that is causing this because I have not changed any drivers. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't want to do manual update, theres nothing else we can really recommend. You might want to invest in a cheap External drive and put all your music on it. You can get one for 100 or less if you shop around

  • IPhoto 5, iTunes, and iPod sync

My iPhoto Library (iPhoto 5.0.4) is located on another partion of my PB's internal harddisk than MacOS X. No problem working with iPhoto, but iTunes won't recognize the iPhoto Library, and so I cannot have it sync the photo with my iPod. Any ideas?
PS: My question is essentially the same as in thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=935191&#935191

I have also got iphoto 504 with more basic problem. How did you manage to read iTunes purchased songs on Iphoto ? I just can't and get no reply from music store assistance. My powerbook is authorized to read iTunes songs.
    Thank you for your help

  • ITunes download and iPod sync

I have been having trouble with my iPod Classic and iTunes for months. I downloaded a new version around the begining of the 7.0 version and my iPod Classic has not been recognized by iTunes ever since. I have done all of the 5 steps with no luck. Now I have removed iTunes completly to try again. When I try to download the latest version it goes to the next screen and thanks me for downloading the program but never actually performs the download.
I'm getting pretty choked. Can anyone help me out?

I assume you mean you lost your library? If so, short answer is Yes, if you sync your iPod using auto updating those tracks will be removed from your iPod.
How did you lose the library? Perhaps those tracks are still safely on your hard drive and you just need to rebuild a new library with those files.

  • IMac, PowerBook and iPod sync problem

It worked before, but it will not work now.
    I have an iPod 5G and a PowerBook1.5Ghz, and an intel-iMac 2.33Mhz and am running iTunes 7.3.
I just want to sync the three of them so ALL three have the SAME library, but now if I sync the iPod to the one computer or the other I get that computers library. It will no longer update the three of them to have the same songs.
ie: If I add songs to the PowerBook it will sync to the iPod and update the library in the iPod. If I add songs to the iMac it will sync to the iPod and update the library in the iPod and remove the songs I added from the PowerBook.
Is this a step back to the old ways of iTunes with the new version 7.3?
    Apple //GS

You've done an excellent job of describing exactly how synchronization works. One computer is in charge and the iPod is synced to the contents of that computer. You're trying to put two computers in charge so they take turns.

  • Rhythmbox and iPod sync problem

Hi, I use rhythmbox to listen to music and I have an iPod classic 80gb (it's broken it can only take 20gb now).
I wanted to add new songs from scratch on my iPod so this is what I did (after reading many problems with syncing):
-I synced my iPod with an empty playlist ( to delete all songs currently on the device)
-I dragged and dropped the songs I wanted in my ipod, it synced...
Now I ejected it and all I see is the old songs that were on my iPod before I do that, as if nothing had changed, except that I can't listen to them, it's like if it was empty.
When I click "properties" I see that I'm using 10gb on the ipod and when I open my ipod with thunar I can see the song files. I used to be able to play them on rhythmbox but not since I checked the ipod plugin in "plugins".
So I can't click sync with library because it's too big and it says current memory spend for music is 10gb but I can't listen to the songs with the iPod. It's as if my iPod was just an external hard drive with music on it unable to play it.
    help please

This is late, I know. But better than nothing:
Your iPod is not recognized as an iPod but as a regular MP3-Player. This means that the songs are copied to your iPod but not written to the iPod database.
    The solution is:
    1) delete every file and folder from your iPod
    2) delete all hidden files (including the trash) on your iPod
    3) Unplug the iPod and plug it in again to restack the folders
    4) Open Rhythmbox, enable the iPod plugin and restart
    5) Rhythmbox now correctly identifies your iPod
    6) Sync iPod by right click > Sync

  • ITunes and iPod sync

    Hello,
I would like to sync my iTunes library to what my iPod has on it. What happen is I never managed my library and only managed my iPod because I would use the manual way of syncing. I noticed when adding artwork, deleting songs, adding songs from other computers, the library on my home computer isn't like my iPod, and I'd like to do what iTunes/iPod does under the automatic way, only have it opposite where my iTunes library automatically to my iPod with the same play count. Is this possible? I am running Windows XP with a 30 GB iPod. Everything is updated.
    Thank you very much,
    Garrett

Could anyone help me with a problem I have with the syncing of my ipod with itunes?
I have a large amount of music on my ipod that is not on my itunes, and I have avoided updating the ipod so I do not erase whats on there. But I am now trying to update my ipod manually, however it is does not work. I have itunes version 1.2.1 and i have selected manually update ipod but it does not select any music to manually update!! Does anyone have any idea how this can be overcome??
    Thanks

  • Ticks and ipod sync

    Hi there,
here's something i want to know more about:
When i sync my ipod with itunes, i use the "tick way" so that all the tracks with a tick next to it will sync on my ipod, i find it to be the easiest way when the ipod's capacity isn't big enough to sync all the tracks in the itunes library. But what I don't like about it is that all the tracks that aren't ticked won't play in itunes unless i expressly select and play them. So if i use the shuffle mode, for example, those tracks will never be played. How can i fix this without having to choose the manual selection of tracks to sync with my ipod (drag and drop), which is not a solution for me?

    Why don't you use playlists?
Tick all the songs and leave them all ticked.
Set up a new Playlist and drag the songs you want on the iPod into the playlist.
You can drag whole Albums, Artists, Genres or just single tracks.
Then setup the sync so that only that playlist is synced to the iPod.
If you ever want different music on the iPod you delete tracks from the playlist, add new tracks and then resync to the iPod.
    Musc easier than ticking songs.

  • Crashing issues, and ipod sync question

Hi, first off, I'm running Aperture 2.1.4 on a new MBP snow leopard 10.6.1
My first question should be easy. Whenever I plug in my ipod, Aperture opens and wants to import the photos I've put on it into a folder. How do I stop Aperture from opening every time I plug it in?
My next question is about crashing. Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard, it seems like whenever I use the retouching brush 4-10 times, aperture freezes and then force quits itself. I've sent the auto-response message that pops up to Apple every time, but I'm not expecting much to come of that. Is there anything to do to stop this from happening? Has it been documented before or am I the only one with this problem?
One final bonus question. I'm importing RAW files (from a Nikon D300) but at first the previews are very, very different. I believe this is because my camera is set to the "vivid" setting, but when I first turn on quick preview before all the images are imported, the images I look at appear very contrasty and saturated, even though I would guess the vivid settings applied in my camera are for jpgs only, and don't affect raw images at all. How and why is aperture pulling this information from the camera when it doesn't relate to the photo? I don't care if this question is answered or not, it's not a huge deal. I was just curious.
    Thanks in advance!

If you sync your iPod automatically, then yes, the next time you sync to that empty library, your iPod will come up empty. It's not a good idea to use the iPod as a storage device. Eventually, you'll probably have to Restore it, and a Restore will wipe the contents. You'll need the library on your computer to resync the songs.
Why not invest in an external hard drive. They're not too expensive. Also...what file type are your songs. Some types eat up a lot more memory than others.
