Ical in leopard won't open

I just upgraded from tiger to leopard. ical won't open. says the app version is not compatible with this version of mac osx. doesn't make sense since ical was supposed to be upgraded with the install. any suggestions.

Elbo51,
I assume that you are using the Dock to open iCal. If so, delete the iCal icon from the Dock and replace it with the iCal application which should be located in your applications folder.
Did you search your HD for other copies of iCal?

  • WT•  Just installed Leopard - won't open any OS 9 programs

    Oh God . . .
I purchased Leopard - ONLY because I needed it in order to install Adobe Flash CS3 - which (which I just laid out $800 for . . .
I have purchased through the years, a very extensive library of applications (around $22,000 worth) wich I COULD use in my OSX.3 . . .
Now it seems as though I CANNOT USE THEM ANYMORE!!! ????? IS THIS TRUE?
Tell me there is a patch or something . . anything
NOT ONCE DID I SEE A WARNING on this disk or sales materials: - hey, if you install this-count on throwing away just about every program you bought - and spent HARD DOLLARS ON in your life - cause OS 9 won't work.
God I hope I'm wrong about this, and it's just another install problem.
    Pleas help.
    Thank you,
    Luke

In addition to Tiger on an external disk you can also partition your HD and install Tiger there. You will have to reboot into Tiger, but it will work.
Insert the Leopard Install disk and click Install. After the restart go to Utilities in the menu bar and choose Disk Utility. Select your HD (not the Volume) and click Partition. Follow the instructions to create a new partition (you will not have to Erase the disk—a new feature in Leopard).
After the partition is created, quit Disk Utility and restart. Eject Leopard and insert the Tiger Install disk, click install and go on from there.
When the install is complete you can drag your Classic Apps and other things to the Tiger partition.
Hope this is a small light at the end of the tunnel.

  • ITunes 11 dmg won't open in OS 10.6.8, error -4960

I've found a few other references to this error code, but most are a couple of years old (before iTunes 11), or they're for Windows. Any idea why my Snow Leopard won't open iTunes 11.0.4? Any little tweak I need to make somewhere? thanks.

Hi, pmajor. Welcome to the Adobe user-to-user forums!
I noticed that your error report indicates that you are using build 4909 of Dreamweaver CS5, which is the release version. There have been some updates since, so I would suggest that you install the latest, 11.0.4 (build 4993), and then see if the problem persists.
You can get the latest update by going to Help > Updates in Dreamweaver, or by downloading it from the following page and then installing it: http://adobe.ly/DWUpdates

  • HT2513 What version of iCal do I need to use with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?  I upgraded to OS X 10.6.3 and my iCal 3.0.8 won't open.

I just upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.3 and now my iCal 3.0.8 won't open at all.  What version do I need to or should I upgrade to and where do I find it?

The version installed with Snow Leopard since iCal is part of OS X. If you are trying to use iCal from a different drive and version of OS X, then it won't work. If the installed version of iCal in Snow Leopard is the wrong version, then there was a problem. Delete the wrong version then reinstall Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Safari won't open from dock after upgrading to leopard

I've upgraded from OS X 10.4.11 Tiger to OS X 10.5.2 Leopard with the upgrade DVD which arrived today and all the available Software Updates (which included a Safari update). No more Software Updates are available - I've checked.
Safari and Mail will now not open from the Dock. Neither will iChat, AddressBook, iDVD (which produces a pop-up saying it "quit unexpectedly" - it didn't appear to start at all), and iCal. Safari and Mail WILL open from my Applications folder thankfully. I haven't checked the other mentioned applications, except iDVD which does the same non-opening with pop-up from Applications too.
I have run permissions verification and permissions repair from Disc Utility on the Mac HD. I have run disc verification from there too and the result said the disc appears OK. Neither solved the Dock problem.
The icons in the Dock don't bounce or anything. They remain still and un-animated. I just get a pop-up message saying "You cannot use the application "Safari.app" with this version of Mac OS X". Which surprises me as it's a native Apple Mac application isn't it? Obviously it says "Mail.app" for mail, "iChat.app" for iChat etc.
I reinserted the Leopard installation DVD and installed all the applications from the Optional Install.mpkg folder, including Safari and Mail. This has made no noticeable difference: they still won't open from the dock. I have just noticed that an additional icon for Safari appears at the far (right hand) end of the dock when I open it from Applications. But it disappears when I close Safari, so no good for opening it.
It could be worse, I can actually open some of the applications from my Applications folder. But this is inconvenient and besides, it is supposed to work from the Dock.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Can anyone help me to solve it please?
I have backed-up (not using time machine - I backed-up before I upgraded). I hope to avoid having to erase and reinstall but I will IF that will solve this problem (and not cause any others
    Help please. Thanks.

    Hi
Dock icons are simply alias. The ones on your dock may be corrupted, especially since you can open Safari from the applications folder. To remove an icon, right click on it and select "remove from dock", or simply drag it off the dock, where it will disappear in a puff of virtual smoke.
Then, go to the Finder and single-click/hold any item you want on the dock. Drag it there.
Try Safari or the other apps again.
Specific to the Leopard upgrade, important any 3rd party items installed in your system are Leopard compatible, otherwise you'll have operational problems when using them.
One other thought. It is possible the Dock is corrupted, causing the problem. If the above does not resolve the problem, go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. There, move the com.apple.dock.plist and com.apple.dock.db files to the desktop, then relaunch the Finder (hold down the option/command/esc keys to reveal the Quit Panel. Select the Finder>relaunch.

  • I"stuff" won't open after leopard installation

A Tale of Taxes and Computers
My wife and I purchased our first computer in 1984. It was a Mac, no hard drive, just a floppy drive so we also got an extra external floppy drive. BIG TIME!
In 1991 we began using MacinTax (Turbo Tax) which saved much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth around the house.
We loved both so much that we have upgraded our Macs several times (we are now a three Mac family) and signed up for automatic renewal for Turbo Tax.
Which brings me to December of 2007.
I received my Turbo Tax in the mail and promptly popped it into my G5 to begin the taxes. Install, restart. But wait, the Turbo Tax icon just sits there and bounces, it won’t open! Reinstall, try again, same thing. I’ve never had this problem, what’s going on?
I eventually end up in Turbo Taxes’ FAQ forum to find out that my G5, running system 10.3, won’t open the program. I need system 10.4 or better. The only thing better is 10.5 and it’s just been released.
    What to do?
Well, I have a G5 running 10.3 (the computer I do our taxes on) and two laptops running 10.4. I may as well upgrade them all to 10.5 Leopard, I can get a family pack for only $199.00.
One week and $200.00 later, Leopard shows up at my door. Good, now maybe I can get back to doing the taxes!
Load, install, wait, blue screen, blue screen, more blue screen. Retry, reinstall, wait, blue screen, blue screen, still more blue screen. Call Tech support, how much Ram do I have? 256. That’s the problem, I need at least 512!
    What to do?
I need memory chips (plural), my wife’s laptop doesn’t have enough Ram either.
$130.00 and one week later, I’m ready to try again. Wait, the G5 won’t read the chip. Try a different slot, won’t read. Try a new slot, won’t read. What’s going on! I must admit, at this point I broke “The Man Law” and got the G5 manual out and read it.
“Memory chips must be installed in pairs”
    What to do?
Another $80.00 and another week later I got another chip for the G5!
Install both chips, install system 10.5, open TurboTax, IT WORKS!
But wait, with 10.5 Leopard there’s more!
Everything I had that operated in the Mac “Classic Environment” will no longer operate. It’s all gone! And while the third party software programs from 10.3 still work, the Apple programs do not! Does that make sense? I had recently started using iphoto, but it will not open anymore. Neither will any of the “i” applications in my G5. I guess now Apple expects me to spend another $80.00 for iLife 08 just so the applications that I already had will work with their new OS!
Congratulations Apple! You have made a giant leap to close the gap between Macs and PCs

A long saga with a moral: Look before you leap"
Everyone knows Leopard does not support Classic.
Everyone knows that many apps are not supported under Leopard.
I would never upgrade anything without first doing a complete investigation into the pros and cons.
    It's called due diligence.
Your rather strange comment to Mac about closing a gap goes unheard by Apple. This board is used by people who only are here to help others, and rants etc, rarely help anyone.
Your epic is unique in the annals of history in detail; but rather passe and blase in broader strokes.
I have had no such problems with Leopard on any of my three Macs and I do not expect I ever will. I pay attention to details and never move forward without knowing where I am going.
Since this board is for problem solving and you have not expressed a need for a solution to anything, I do not really understand the nature of your desultory philippic.

    HI,
If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With  Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself  (on it's own) and restart iChat  (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)

  • I've upgraded to Snow Leopard, Aperture 3 won't open.

I've finally upgraded to snow leopard (hoping the bugs would all be worked out!)  Aperture 3 won't open.  I did the "fix" found under aperture support.  However, the advised,  3.1.1 update for aperture won't open either, saying it I need to install aperture 3 first (it is installed!)  help please....

Please see this thread and do follow all the instructions.
Just upgrade to Snow.  Now Aperture 3.1 will not start.
I know you have Aperture 3 installed and feel its silly to reinstall it but just try it.

  • Lower DVD drive won't open/close since Snow Leopard upgrade

    Hello,
I have 2 optical drives in my Mac Pro: 1 Superdrive in the upper slot and 1 DVD-ROM drive in the lower slot (a HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000 which came with my old Dual G4 450).
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't use the lower drive anymore, it won't open or close (I used the alt-eject keys, nothing happens). The drive also is not listed in the eject-menu in the menue bar, but it appears in system profiler as:
    HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000:
    Modell: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7000
    Version: 016J
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein
    Protokoll: ATAPI
    Einheiten-Nummer: 1
    Socket-Typ: Intern
    Low-Power-Polling: Nein
    Ausschalten: Nein
Anybody any ideas what I can do to get that 2nd drive to work again?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

Today I had a little time do do some testing:
The tip with the SMC RESET button didn't help.
Zapping the PRAM/NVRAM didn't help either.
The jumpers were on "cable select" on both drives, I tried to set one as "master" and the other one as "slave". Problem still exists.
I changed the position of the drives to check if the cable is ok. Still the same.
I unplugged the other (working) drive and had just the one plugged in. It shows up in system profiler but not in the drives menue nor in the disk utility application.
I booted from my 10.5 installation DVD and tried the disk utility from there. It's not on the list.
    Any other ideas?
    Peter

  • IPhoto won't open since Snow Leopard upgrade

    Hi,
Since upgrading to snow leopard iPhoto won't open, it just crashes instantly. I ahve tried reinstalling with no luck.
    Can anybody help with this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan.

i just bought a new MBP 13'' 2.53 Ghz 4Gb Ram 250GB HD... i tried moving my iPhoto library from my powerbook g4 1.67 machine that was running 10.4.11 (via a Lacie external)
once i moved this and opened iPhoto (on my new MBp running 10.6.1 - SNOW LEOPARD) it instantly asks me to upgrade the library (saying that the old library needs upgrading for this version), so i click upgrade, and then 2 seconds later it says that the library is corrupt and damaged and i must install from a back up...
I deleted iPhoto then emptied trash after clearing up some space on the external, meaning i lost iPhoto applicaton - IDIOT I KNOW - so i download iPhoto 8.1 and the library upgrade and error / damaged library message appeared again...
I have now, (as i type this right now) re-installed snow leopard from the snow leopard disk that came in the MBP box (i have had it like 2 weeks, thats it, it shipped with leopard and i am having to install SNOW LEOPARD, for the 2nd time) to get iPhoto back)... will this give me iPhoto back, or do i have to re-install from the LEOPARD OS disks that were sent in the MBP box, the OS that it shipped with?
i am very annoyed that it seems that my iPhoto library from a 3.75year old machine cant be on my new machine unless i re-add each PBG4Tiger10.4.11 individual library folder thru the interface of iPhoto on my new machine... (if indeed it will ever open)...
    PLEASE HELP !

Do you use your Vaio Update for updates, kingdom? If so, check in there to see if you're also up to date on your video card drivers and BIOS. (Your downloads page at Sony UK shows some updates for those there, so we'd better check on them too.)
