ICal indications on the Dock

I have a number 1 in a red circle on the iCal in the dock. Great feature to tell me when I have a new meeting request. Now I have it but can find no meeting for this one. Was working great. Is it a meeting I set up and received no reply and the date / time has come and gone? How do I find it / clear it? Thanks for helping me!

I am having the same problem. There is a "1" in a red circle on my iCal dock icon, but I cannot find the event referenced or clear the indicator. Anyone out there who can shed some light on this? It happened to me once before, and somehow was cleared without me knowing how it happened.

• ICal icon in the dock is NOT live

One of the first things I noticed in Leopard was that FINALLY, the iCal icon in the Dock reflects the current date without iCal being open. This was "confirmed" by several reviews I read online.
Woohoo! Apple finally responded to the #1 complaint about iCal and the Dock! Right?
Wrong. They simply defaulted it to OCT 26 for Leopard's release, which should now be known as October Fool's day.
Honestly Apple, how hard would this be to fix? You even did it on the iPhone! You spent all that effort on live reflections in the dock but can't fix a bona fide usability problem?

you're not alone. my ical dock was also buggy. when it was closed it displayed the date that was one earlier than the current date in the menu bar. and when i opened, ical, it displayed the current date. i removed the icon and then replaced it like you did and it fixed the bug (that was really annoying me).
i had a clean install of Leopard, don't know if you did upgrade or clean install.

• My iCal icon in the Dock is still showing 31 Dec

Hello all and Happy New Year!
*It's already 1st Jan 2010 morning* here in Singapore.
A glance at my iCal icon in the Dock I just realized *it is still showing 31 Dec*
Hmmm, what is going on?
Thanks and cheers

Hi there Kosmic_Kayy,
If I understand correctly, you have successfully upgraded to Yosemite but you see the installer in Launchpad, and it indicates that it is paused. You should be able to remove that, with the following the following steps:
OS X Lion: How to remove Mac App Store apps that appear in Launchpad
Follow these steps while you are logged in with an administrator account:
Enter Launchpad.
Click and hold on an icon until you see all icons jiggle.
Click the "x" button in the upper-left of the Mac App Store app icon you want to delete.
Note: If you do not see an "x" button, either the app is not from the Mac App Store or you are logged in as a standard user.
Click "Delete" in the confirmation dialog to delete the app.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

• ICal icon in the dock partially missing, only number shows

Hi there, my dad was messing around with iCal today, trying to drag it somewhere else, and I think he broke the icon for it.
The paper, rings, and red bar in the iCal icon won't show up. The only thing that shows up is the number 11 and the word Nov, which are today's date.
I found an icon file called "App-empty.icns" inside iCal's resources folder (when you right-click "show package contents") that looks like just the paper without the numbers. It seems like this icon is the "behind" part of the iCal icon, meaning the paper and rings, and the numbers are the "in front" part of the icon, but only the "in front" part is showing up, if that makes any sense.
I've tried dragging it out onto the desktop then opening iCal, but that didn't work. Computer restart didn't work either. When you launch iCal, the icon snaps back into shape like it's supposed to look, but when you quit iCal, it goes back to its ghost mode where it only shows the number and the month, sans the paper.
Any help would be lovely, thanks.
Evan

Did anyone resolve this problem?
I have a client who has a partially missing iCal icon on the dock. it appears to have just the number of the month in black and nothing else!
also when you open the iCal app, the icon then turns 'normal'. But another issue is that
all the current month's appointments are missing until you move the calendar one month ahead,
and then back again to the current month. Then, mysteriously, all the appointments re-appear in
the current month.

• ICal image in the dock

Does anyone know of a fix to have the correct date show up in the dock icon for iCal? "17" seems so odd. How can today's date show up there.
Thanks

• ICal opens on the dock, but no window appears

For the last few days my iCal (which is in the start-up disk) will bounce on the dock but then no window appears. The icon stops bouncing, but when it finishes, all that appears is the date but it is clear, there is no calander picture in the background. The only way to quit iCal is to force quit. When I click on the icon on the dock, no window appears and iCal's menu does not appear on the top bar like in other apps. Every now and then my isync tries to sync my iCal with my .mac account, but it comes up with the following message
|(null)| iCal application is not available for sync. Please quit iCal.
Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to iCal: device is not available
I have tried to run Virex several times but no viruses have come up. any suggestions?

Does running Firefox in Safe mode help?
Did you at least try to disable hardware acceleration if it works in safe-mode?
Such a test only takes a short time and can easily be undone.
Testing for misbehaving extensions takes a lot more time with all the restart involved.
If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.
We only can do some guesses if you post a list of your installed extensions and themes.

• TS4337 Whenever I turn on my computer the ical alias in the dock displays "July 17". I would like it to show the actual date. Is there a way to do this and if so, how?

Whenever I turn on my computer the ical icon always displays the date "July 17". I would like it to display the correct date. Is that possible and if so how do I set that up?

Yes. I read some other discussions regarding this and have just added the app to my start up list and checked "hide". I'll see if that works.

• ICal still shows previous day in ical proper, but shows current date in the dock

iCal is open in the MONTH, on my desktop permanently, but it continually shows yesterdays date. It isn't till I actually click on the following day in iCal proper that the date changes to the current date. The iCal icon on the dock works fine with no issues. When I first purchased the iMac iCal worked aok. Software is continually updated.

I have the same issue. I am also running iCal 5.0.2 under Lion 10.7.3. It worked fine for me on Lion 10.7.2, and it still works ok for me on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1. It does look like a bug to me. I have the issue connecting to a Google Calendar as well as to another (non-Apple) CalDAV server.
Let me know if you call Apple Support to report this issue.

• Major crashes even after clean install. iCal/sqlite/MobileMe the culprit?

In 25 years of using Apple computers, I've never had problems like I'm having now.
My iMac was acting up severely with some strange symptoms such as:
* The red & white portion of the iCal icon in the dock disappearing, while the date itself remained visible.
* All kinds of 0K sqlite files showing up on the base level of the hard drive, and a lots of cfx pref files being generated (stuff like cfx#1t9Oiul -- these i understand to be corrupt pref files). The sqlite files, by the way, show up as things like etilqs_3HVA6IL9BWQtB9e
* Freezes, generally slow behavior, and multiple crashes, including the "blue screen of death" where the color just shifts and the cursor comes and goes. Eventually, even after running DiskWarrior, I the computer would start up, then spontaneously shut itself down after the grey apple screen with the progress wheel.
Ultimately, I decided to just wipe the thing clean and start fresh from a backup.
Using a Leopard install disk, I attempted to do the clean install, but was unable to from the iMac's internal optical drive - the installer told me the disk was damaged or dirty (the optical drive is brand new, by the way).
Using a powerbook and putting the iMac in target mode, I was able to do a completely clean install.
I ran all the software updates and have added NO third party software.
Problems are back:
Running a sync to get my calendar, contacts, and bookmarks back, I encountered my first problem again: address book wouldn't sync "due to inconsistent data" and told me to replace the data on the computer by resetting it -- which I attempted to do, multiple times, but the sync always failed.
Then , once again those sqlite files started showing up.
Then the iCal icon disappeared again and programs weren't responding. Moments ago I had to do a hard restart.
I've zapped the PRAM, I've tried everything I know, and I'm still having all these problems (some of which, by the way, are now beginning to occur on the PowerBook G4 I also have).
If anyone can provide me any guidance here, man would I love it. Is it possible the Leopard disk I have is somehow corrupted and is causing all these issues? Or is it hardware? Or is this some sort of problem that's being generated by synchronization?
I'm really at my wit's end.
Thanks to anyone who can give me a hand.
Jon

Just wanted to update anyone who's interested:
After replacing the internal hard drive, all problems have ceased and my Mac is running beautifully -- fast (though I also upgraded the ram from 1 to 2 GB) and I couldn't be happier.
So just a word to the wise: those "software" problems I was so certain I was having turned out to be a hard drive that was slowly failing. A friend of mine who's a programmer said he's never heard of a hard drive failing anything but suddenly, but in this case that's what happened.
With the problems I was having, I was seriously beginning to question my loyalty to Apple.
As it turns out, now I'm questioning their loyalty to Western Digital -- that drive was a dog and I'm glad to have replaced it with a Seagate.

• Ical appears translucent in dock and will not show events when opened

Has anyone recently experienced iCal appearing translucent in the dock? This is weird and just recently started happening. Once iCal is launched it appears normal in the dock but goes back to translucent when I quit. Our MacBook Pro is brand new just a few weeks old and all the software is up to date. Also, even weirder, suddenly the events are not showing up in the month view when launched. I can go back to December and then move to January and then they appear. I made sure that the preferences are checked to show times and that in View "show the to do list" is selected. Whenever it has been launched the calendar is blank and will only show events after view or preferences have been manipulated. Any help would be appreciated..

kkovardfd,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Do you have any duplicate fonts? If so, make sure to resolve duplicates with Font Book.
Remove the iCal icon from the Dock, and replace it with the iCal Application located in your Applications folder.
Open System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats> and set/re-set your appropriate "Region."
After deleting the iCal plist, also delete the com.apple.Dock.plist, log out/in from your account, or restart the computer. Your Dock will revert to default appearance.

• Does Mail display # of new messages in the dock icon even when app is off?

I'm not sure if it does or not. I like how the new iCal icon in the dock displays the date even when the app isn't open.
I'd love if Mail would display the # of new messages in the dock icon without having to leave the application open all the time.
Otherwise, I just have to stick with Gmail Notifier.
Thanks for any insight!
- Jeff

you would have to leave the application opened.
hope this helps

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

• Please make iCal update the date in the dock!!

If I leave iCal open for several days, the date in the icon on the dock remains unchanged. I have to quit iCal to get the date to update (the current date shows as soon as I quit iCal; I don't even have to restart the application.

Linc -- thanks so much! This fixed it. I had posted the same question a few months ago, but never got an answer. I do appreciate your assistance.

• ICal showing current date on the dock

I have Leopard and the iCal icon on my dock shows the current date, whether or not the application is open, whether or not I shut down the computer.
Another person in the office, with Panther, has iCal on her dock but the date does not update each day unless she opens the application.
Is there a way to set the dock icon to update in Panther.
thanks,

Is there a way to set the dock icon to update in Panther.
Not without keeping iCal open all the time.
