ICal invitation issue

Hi Community, I have a strange question and I hope someone call help.
When I create an event in iCal on my MacBook and invite attendees everything is okay.
However, when I create an event in iCal on my iPhone the organizer is my father in-law.
I really don't get what is going on. This was first brought to my attention when a friend was seeing who else was attending and he asked me, who is (father in-law).
Anyway, it is weird and I would like it to be fixed. I have no idea why he is the organizer of an event he is not even attending.
Thanks community!

  • Ical invite issues

I have been trying to send invitations using Ical to a event. Unfortunately the other people get the invite but are not receiving the RSVP part of the invite. So all it does is enter the event information onto their ical or calender. I thought ical allows RSVP as well... am I mistaken? If it is possible to do so then is there a setting I need to change? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i'm having a similar issue. i'm writing a caldav server and can't get ical to recognize that i own events can therefor rsvp to them.
what does iCal expect in order to rsvp to event via caldav?
    thanks.

  • ICal invites are not received by some people (I know why, but Apple won't fix it)

I switched to icloud a while back and have the maddening problem of SOME people not receiving invites, and have discovered what causes it (at least in my case):
If the user you are sending to has an itunes (or apple id) account with that email as the login (and that email is NOT an icloud email) they will never receive the iCal invite! Instead it gets routed to their (non setup) icloud account. If they start using icloud for their calendars with this same external email address as login, they will receive them there (directly on their calendar if it is setup). Apple refuses to forward it to their real email address, the one we are sending it to. I have reported it to Apple several times but they are not inclined to fix it, probably because they want to force external users to use icloud. This is mega frustrating. Many of my friends do not receive invites, forcing me to use Google calendar for events with those friends. I prefer the general interface and look of icloud/ical invites, but I need to be able to actually invite people!

Not for me, but let me verify the following type scenario with you:
    1. Your person to invite has a gmail address ([email protected])
    2. That gmail address is their Apple ID/iTunes login name (this is the most important piece)
    3. They may have some icloud service on (like note syncing) but do not use icloud calendaring or mail (or may have signed up for mail but never check it)
    4. Your icloud/ical invite arrives properly in their gmail inbox (at [email protected])?
Is all the above true? For me, the above scenario results in no email being received at the address I sent it to (number 4), it gets routed/lost in icloud if that is their Apple ID login.
Like I said, I do not have the issue you have, all my invites are received regardless of the email provider and user ID's I just send to the correct address and that's it. Frankly if what you said was common the service would be useless, but it works for millions. The problem is at your end, not everybody's.
The login name is just a text string to iCloud, not an address.

I can no longer send iCal invitations.  I have not changed any settings, passwords or email accounts.  No idea what to do.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
What happens when you put in an email address in an event? (Make sure the email address is also in your addressbook (Macintosh HD > Applications > Addressbook)
Are you using calendars that show up under "On My Mac" on the left hand side of iCal or are the calendars under a different heading?
    Troubleshooting:
Make sure that you can send / receive email in the Apple Mail program.
Make sure that the email address in Mail > Preferences > Accounts is also on your Addressbook card:Go to Addressbook > Card > Go to My Card -- The email address you are using to send receive messages on your computer should be on this card.
If that doesn't take care of it:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Time zone ignored in iCal invites

Recently, maybe since the timezone update, iCal has not been processing the time zone of meeting invites that I receive from Exchange users in my company. It is ignoring the time zone, for example an East coast user sends me an invite for 7pm EST, but I receive the invite as 7pm PST.
I just noticed this problem today but it could have been since the time zone update. I'm a long time user of iCal / Mail, normally I don't have this time zone issue.

Issues like this have been tossed around for a relatively long time, and those beset by them often are prone to point fingers at just about anyone. Much of the evidence offered is incomplete, or even contradictory. I've tried to follow this issue and others like it for some time, and—though, like most others I have encountered, I remain somewhat dazed and confused—I have come to these basic conclusions:
    • the issue relates somehow to TZID, the global—but, not globally defined and therefore standardized—time zone identifier
    • the heart of the issue appears to reside with some of the many releases of Microsoft's Exchange Server software
It's relatively easy to point the finger at Microsoft, as the notifications which display this behavior seem to originate from domains which run an Exchange Server of one variety or another. But, it's not that simple. Some report that invitations issued inside work, but those same invitations sent outside do not. Some report that patching the Exchange Server corrects the issue, but it's unclear if a specific post-SP2 patch exists to address the issue. Some report that Outlook Web Access users are affected, but not Outlook users. This may simply be because OWA and Outlook users 'get' their time-stamps from different locations, which do not use the same time zone definitions.
I think that you're on the right track examining the source data, but I think that it's the data itself that is the problem—specifically the TZID value, or a combination of that value and other information in the file—that raises the issue.
I don't see much evidence that the problem lies with the current release of iCal, or is caused by the DST patches present in Mac OS X 10.4.6 through 10.4.9, the various security updates or the DST update released by Apple.
The future release of iCal under Mac OS X 10.5 will be CalDAV compliant, and the CalDAV participants are working diligently to prevent just such problems, by standardizing such values as TZID. Microsoft is late to that party, although is now participating as I understand it, suggesting once again that the root of this problem is likely one or more Microsoft products, including Exchange Server.
One challenge with correcting the problem is defining it, and another clearly is working through the many varied iterations of Entourage, Outlook, OWA, the Exchange Server product line, and being sure that applied changes to create problems for others, like an organization's Blackberry and Windows Mobile users.
It would seem incumbent upon an organization's information technology staff to isolate, identify and correct the issue, and not upon users. That might be a challenge to achieve, however, if the majority of users in an organization do not seem to be affected by the problem, no matter how prevalent the problem might be, and how incorrectly an Exchange Server might be operating, if indeed it is.
Further complicating this is the unfortunate change to DST rules which recently occurred, and the requirement to apply changes to Windows XP and earlier along Mac OS X and OS 9 computers, Palm devices, Windows Mobile devices, mobile handsets and the server components which support them. While that issue isn't at all a likely component of this problem, they unluckily have appeared in some organizations almost simultaneously, making a possible link somehow a foregone conclusion, thus only adding to the confusion.
Where the offset is just one hour, as contrasted with the twelve hours reported by one poster, the immediate and logical conclusion is to assume that it's a DST issue. It likely is not.

  • I can't receive some iCal invitations in MS Exchange Outlook.

At work I use MS Exchange Outlook. I also use an iPhone and an iPad. When certain people send me iCal invitations, I don't receive an email in MS Exchange Outlook and, therefore, can't add them to my MS Exchange Outlook calendar. When they appear in my apple devices, the invitation doesn't include my MS Outlook calendar as an option. What do I do?

What's your account type in your Outlook? Does the issue only happen to meeting request? How about sending or receiveing emails?
Please check whether the meeting request can be send and receive in Webmail. Also check whether you can send/receive meeting request from Windows users.

  • Accepting a ical invitation on ipad

How do we accept an ical invitation on ipad from iphone or Macbook or Mac desck top
I get this message ''Safari can't open this document''

I would love a solution, too. This issue came up as soon as I updated to the mobileme beta in october. First, all my "on my mac" calendars were deleted with years of needed historical data. Luckily I restored them via Time Machine backup. Then I talked in depth to multiple levels of AppleCare support and they were beyond perplexed. Any calendar invites I receive into iCal will automatically go into the first "on my mac" calendar, and cannot be moved to the mobileme calendars. The only bad solution is to "duplicate" the calendar event, and then move it to whatever calendar you want. Then delete the original event. Unfortunately, even if you select "delete and don't notify" the original event sender will receive a notification. I've also had problems with calendar invites in ical I accepted into mobileme syncing to my iphone and ipad in a format that does not allow me to edit.

  • I have accepted iCal invitations with repeating events and they have since been deleted from the iCal on my Mac but won't delete from my iPhone. Help

I have accepted iCal invitations with repeating events and they have since been deleted from the iCal on my Mac but won't delete from my iPhone. Help

I experienced this issue as well.
    Background:
I had opened an ICS attachment for a repeating event on my iPhone, which added the item to my phone's calendar. I did not have the option to delete the calendar entry from my phone, and the item did not appear on the calendar on my Mac. My phone is currently running iOS 7 (but the problem began quite awhile ago; I don't recall which version of iOS was installed when it started).
    Solution (summary):
Create a new calendar, move the items that you wish to delete to the new calendar, then delete the new calendar
    Solution (detailed steps):
    Create a new calendar
On your phone, open the calendar app
Tap the "Calendars" option at the bottom of the screen
Tap the "Edit" button in the top left corner
Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap the "Add Calendar..." option
Give your new calendar a good name, such as "Delete me"
Tap "Done" in the top right corner to save the new calendar
Tap "Done" in the top left corner to finish editing the list of calendars
Tap "Done" to exit the list of calendars
Assign all calendar entries that you wish to delete to the calendar you created in step 1
Tap a calendar entry that you wish to delete
Tap the "Edit" button in the top right corner
Scroll down until you see the Calendar field (on an iPhone or iPod it's usually just below the bottom of the screen), then tap the Calendar field to bring up the list of available calendars
Tap the name of the calendar that you created in step 1 (e.g. "Delete me"); the screen should return to the main calendar entry page
Tap "Done" in the top right corner of the screen. You may need to then tap the "< Day" button on the top left of the screen to return to the main calendar view
Repeat the instructions in step 2 for each of the calendar entries that you wish to delete
Delete the calendar that you created in step 2 (this will delete all calendar entries assigned to this calendar)
From the main screen in the calendar app, tap the "Calendars" option at the bottom of the screen
Tap the "Edit" button in the top left corner
Tap the entry for the calendar that you created in step 2 (e.g. "Delete me")
Scroll to the bottom of the scren and tap the "Delete Calendar" option. You should be prompted with a warning that explains that "All events associated with this calendar will also be deleted."
If you're sure that the only items on this calendar are items that you wish to delete, tap the "Delete Calendar" button
Tap "Done" in the top right corner to exit the Edit Calendars screen
Tap "Done" to exit the list of calendars. You should now be back at the main view of the calendars app
Rejoice, your pesky repeating calendar events have been deleted
At this point all of the items that you assigned to the deleted calendar should be gone
Repeat the steps above for any entries that you missed
Post another message to this thread if this did not resolve your problem

  • Cannot sent an calendar or iCal invitation to my wife

As stated above I cannot sent a Calendar, iCloud or iCal invitation to my wife. She also uses iCloud and Calendar.
We both have @me.com accounts but when we try to invite one another nothing happens in my calender it says she hasn't respond and visa versa.
I have checked my Address book and looked at what email is defined in my Card and this is the @me.com.
Under my appleid.apple.com I checked if my secundairy email @gmail.com account was still there which wasn't cause I removed it a while ago, so this cannot be it either.
I went from a Mobile Me account to iCloud and my wife got iCloud with her iPhone4S.
Is there anybody with the same issue? And if so did you manage to solve this?

    Alex,
Try Unpublish..., followed by Publish... on her computer. Then subscribe to the new published calendar.

  • Wrong "reply to" with iCal invite

    Hi,
    I've got a MacOS X Server running 10.6.6.
Everythings works fine with iCal except one thing.
When I send iCal invit. to the outside world, the reply-to that my mail program is getting is just a junk of numbers and letters like :
    [email protected]
Is there a way to get rid of this ?
    Thanks for help

Okay, so after spending several hours with Apple tech support I was able to resolve my problem, hope this helps. The user had manually synced their Address Book contacts with their iPhone and a Google contacts list. Both of these syncs as well as manually adding new contacts into the Address Book on their iMac caused the Address Book to get completely scrambled. The user had cards with no title, but as many as five (unrelated) email addresses assigned to the card. This same Address Book contained multiple address cards like this, yet each one was slightly different. The user also had cards with titles containing special characters (&;?-_/   etc.), the quick answer for me was, the user had o go through their Address Book on their iPhone and their iMac and completely descramble the bad data. Then before a fresh sync they had to turnoff sync with Google contacts within iTunes. Once the bad data was removed the invitee field with iCal immediately started to perform as expected without fail. What a relief to have this issue resolved.

  • Ical invites

whenever i send an invite to an event, the invitee receives it but there is no link to respond. is this because they are using pc's rather than a mac with ical?
the most recent person got this: Carol Schultz has invited you to the iCal event: Meeting w/carol schultz, scheduled for November 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM (Mountain Standard Time). To accept or decline this invitation, click the link below.
there was no link for him to respond.

    Hi Guys,
Been dealing with a similar issue for about 3 years now, so I know your pain. Apple will not solve this problem because they're a stickler for standards, no matter what the rest of the world really needs. Since I'm a developer at heart, I decided to tackle the problem on my own and built a software product cal Zamain for Mac to resolve the Apple iCal to Microsoft Outlook/Exchange incompatibilities. I originally built the product for myself, but soon realized that this can help others as well. Here are the major issues that Zamain for Mac resolves:
Supports sending Apple iCal invitations from multiple Apple Mail email accounts
Resolves the "unable to Accept" Apple iCal invitations sent to Microsoft Outlook/Exchange recipients
Resolves incorrect time zones for Microsoft Outlook/Exchange recipients
Prevents multiple attachments when viewing Apple iCal invitation emails in Microsoft Outlook
Although I know that this is a shameless plug for my product, I urge you to give it a try because it will really make your life easier. I have been using it every day for past 6 months and I can tell you that it saved me a lot of grief.
You can get Zamain for Mac at www.zamain.com.
    Thanks!

  • Accepting iCal invites...

I currently have an Iphone 4, Macbook Pro and Mac Pro synced using iCloud. My problem is that I cannot accept iCal invites on the Mac Pro.  I can add the invite to iCal but it does not send the confirmation email when I accept it, so the person inviting can't see that I've accepted. It works properly on my Macbook Pro but not on the Mac Pro or iPhone.  Thoughts?

I have similar issue - I cannot accept invites in iCal on my macbook pro.
If I "view" the invite I can see it on the calendar through preview, but NOTHING ever shows up in iCal.
Also, "updates" to scheduled items don't update existing appointments.
