ICal invite replies Use Wrong Outgoing Server

Hi There,
I have 3 e-mail accounts in Mail.
When someone sends me an invite it goes into iCal no problem. If I try to reply to the invite through iCal then it works ok on 2 of the e-mail accounts but not on 1.
i.e. If someone sent the invite to account 1 it is ok.
If they send it to account 2 it is ok
but account 3 is the problem.
With account 3 I get a pop-up message from Mail telling me "Cannot send message using the server xxxxx". The server to which it is referring is the server to be used for one of the other accounts.
It won't even work if I select another server from the list.
Any ideas?
powerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Thanks for your help.
I'm not entirely sure I understood your instructions though.
I went into Mail preferences and went to the accounts section. I clicked on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down box and then went to 'edit server list'.
From here I was able to delete 2 servers that I do not use and the other 3 servers listed were listed against the correct e-mail addresses and accounts.
I then send an e-mail from each of the accounts to make sure I had it all set up right and each e-mail account sent and e-mail and received an e-mail without a problem.
Then I went back to iCal to accept an invite and it tried to send it using the wrong outgoing server for that e-mail account and I had the same problems as normal.
Any other ideas?

  • Mail is using wrong outgoing server

We just changed hosts for our company email and website. I set up a new account with the new info for incoming and outgoing servers. When I try to send Mail tries to send using the old outgoing server, despite the fact that I entered the new server info when I set up the new account in Mail.
When it bounces back I get a pull down menu where I can choose the right server and then it works. I don't want to delete the old account as I'd loose the emails in it. Is there a place where the computer stores a list of servers where I could delete the old server name?

Mail tries to send using the old outgoing server, despite the fact that I entered the new server info when I set up the new account in Mail.
Because you didn't make the new account the primary one, so Mail chooses the current primary account and it's mail server settings. You'll need to go to Preferences > Composing and select your new account from the pop-down list as the "Send new email from:" account.
Is there a place where the computer stores a list of servers where I could delete the old server name?
Yes. Preferences > Accounts > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):. Click on the pop-down menu and select Edit Server List… to remove servers.

  • Apple Mail Repeatedly Using Wrong Outgoing SMTP Server

    Hi
SInce upgrading to Mavericks my Apple Mail is extremely confused.  It is trying to send emails using SMTP servers to other accounts.
For example, one of my Gmail accounts will send using a outgoing server from my university email.  The sender name works out correctly, but it is tedious to sort through finding which outgoing server will work and provide the right user name.
My me mail keeps asking which outgoing server to use.
Is there a one and done solution to this?  I'm already trying to get used to Outlook and Thunderbird, but frankly did used to like Mail.

I solved this with the following steps:
Change the "Outgoing Mail Server" to "None"
    Compose a new email
    Click the send button
A window will come up that allows you to select the outgoing mail server (this is the same window that appeared when Mail was originally having connection issues to the mail server)
Select the outgoing server you want to use (in my case, my company's exchange server) and send the email
You should now find that the "Outgoing Mail Server" has been set back to the one it should be, and all your mail is actually being sent via this server.

  • Mail does not use correct outgoing server

    Problem
Mail in Mavericks (and also IOS6 snf 7) does not use the outgoing smtp server associated with the account being used. This results in either a failure to send or mail being put into the wrong "Sent" folder.
    Background
I have most of my non-icloud mail pulled down to a home server from which my laptops and ios devices access various accounts using imap. The local home server also provides smtp and relays all mail to my ISP. Recently I have been switching from an old home server (Mac Mini) to a new one (Raspberry pi running the debian Raspbian version with fetchmail,  Dovecot and postfix setup).
While making the changeover I had access to both the old server and the new server enabled on my laptop. Naturally the majority of the settings (Name, email address etc) were the same although the name and address of the server to be used for both incoming and outgoing mail were different. This seemed tp work fine for incoming. However when I tested outgoing mail the copy that should appear in the "sentt" box  went missing. This usually indicates some mistake in the setting of the sent mail folder on the accounts but this all checked out.
I eventually found the missing outgoing mail intended to go through the new server in the sent box on the old server. Further trials showed that no matter what I did the outgoing would always default to the old (and therefore first set up) outgoing server.
Deleting the old account and the old outgoing server of course should cure the problem and will eventually be the solution for me when I kill the old server. But i wanted to get to the bottom of the problem in case it reappeared in other contexts. Checking the "use only this server" box produced failure to send rather than the correct result.
Trialing various alterntaive settings showed that the problem occurs when there are two outgoing servers with the email address in the settings and the user name on the outgoing server name being the same. I had assumed that changing the description field would distinguish between the various settings; however this did not work. Changing the Name Field did work eg by putting (O) after my name.
It appears therefore that mail selects the outgoing server on the basis of email address (with the full name included) and user name (trrespective of the actual server or the Description that shows in the smtp server listing. In some ways this is logical but it produces problems in the context I have described and would also be a difficulty if you wanted to use an alternative server when in a different location.
I have trawled support and elsewhere for any thing similar. Lots of mail problems (don't get me started on the way icloud loses outgoing each time you edit the list!) but I have not found any posts on precisiely this point.
IOS devices seem to have similar problems, but a quick attempt at a similar solution does not work, and I cannot be bothered  to test the options. I will simply clean them out and put in the new accounts.
    Advice
Grateful for any comments or advice from people who have encountered similar problems and whether my diagnosis if correct. Have I missed any obvious corrections that would clear this up. I do not know whether this is a Mavericks issue or also appears in earlier OSX versions.

    Peter,
Where ever the Sent and Trash folders show in the Sidebar, highlight first one, and then the other, followed by clicking on Mailbox in the Menubar, and choosing Use This Mailbox For, and choose the function.
Keep us posted on your progress.

  • ICal invitation replies don't add

    Hi,
I can send out out iCal invitations just fine, but when the receiver respond with their calendard application, iCal does not seem to recognize it. I still have the questionmark on the left of each invitee's name.
The replies I get look fine, they are .ics files.
Neither does iCal automatically add these to my invitation, nor does anything happen if I double-click on the .ics file.
When the same people send me an invitation from their end, it works just fine, they get added automatically to my iCal.
So it's just their replies after I invited them to an event that don't seem to do anything.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Sascha

Reply acceptance has always been flaky for me. Snow Leopard behaves better, but not perfectly.

  • ICal invitation replies stuck in mailserver (ML Server)

I've tried to setup the iCal server on my MacMini server. Spend a lot of time to get the invitations to work. Finaly it's working but when you reply on the invitation it's getting stuck in the mailserver. I use the com.apple.calenderserver address. I'm using Kerio Connect as a mailserver. When i look in the message que of Kerio i can see the replies but they stuck. They are pointed to: [email protected]
So it looks like there is a missing link between kerio sending it to the iCal server or the iCal server receiving it from kerio...
Anybody know how to fix this? All help is welcome! Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Unfortunately it does'nt work yet. Invitations going out, no problem, same as before. Replies on invitations coming back to Kerio, see them in the message Que. After a while they disappear. It's telling me: "Result failed, Too many hops, message looping so it's still not delivering the message to the iCal server.

  • Change iCal invitation email text (wrong sender in email)

Please help me... I have read forum after forum and thread after thread to find a solution...
When sending calendar invitations from iCal, they are sent with the old company name I used when installing my computer instead of the one I use today. So, the text I want to change in the email received by the invitee is "Thomas Dalebring - Humanor AB invited you to..." to "Thomas Dalebring - Predictio invited you to..."
Of course, the current problem creates quite a few misunderstandings and now I cannot use iCal to send invitations anymore.
I have tried changing my user profile in address book and changing my profile in the user accounts - but nothing works...
Has anybody else had this issue? Please help!

    I FOUND the answer.
Go to your Mail application. Select Preferences. Select Composing. CHANGE "Send new messages from" field to contain the email address you wish to be the sender.

  • Unable to see ical invitation replies

Our household uses multiple Apple devices that are linked to my credit card for payment with ITunes, ICloud extra storage etc.  Our family typically sends invitations to one another from iCal to our respective iCloud addresses.  This entire process worked flawlessly until mid October when my wife, daughter, sons, etc. received invitations from me and replied.  Their devices are showing they replied, but my iCal shows them as not replying and leaves the appointment grayed out in iCal.  What is peculiar is that that there appears to by no rhyme or reason why this happens, but it was not long after we upgraded all of our machines to Mavericks.
    Thank you.

  • Can't send mail; wrong outgoing server?

My mom has having problems sending mail. I am personally a windows user so i don't know too much about the mail program or the OS in general (i'm using my dad's account). Originally the error message was something short about checking the server settings. Now the message is:
Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com
The server response was: 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied, try authenticating.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Message from: [my mom] <[my mom]@mac.com>
send message using: [drop down bar for selecting alternative servers]
(edit message) (use selected server) (try again later)
What exacly is the problem? she said she didn't change any settings or anything like that and it started this afternoon.

According to the .Mac web site 10/02/2006
EMail was unavailable for 3 hour(s) to some .Mac Members.I suspect your Mom's email is working normally now.

  • Mail on iPhone sometimes uses wrong outgoing mail account

I have selected my .me email account as the default for outgoing email messages. But my iPhone does not always use that account. When I hit the "compose" icon a new blank email message opens up and my .me account always appears in the "From:" space. HOWEVER, when I then enter the recipient's email address my iPhone sometimes, but not always, changes the "From" account to my Gmail account.
There are certain recipients for whom it always uses the correct default outgoing address (my .me account), and there are other recipients for whoom it always changes the outgoing account, but I haven't been able to identify a common thread that would tell me why it is making the change for those recipients.
I have an iPad, which is set to use the same default outgoing email account, and have not had this problem on that device. Nor on my iMac.

It switches to Gmail for some Gmail recipients, but not others. And it switches to Gmail for some other recipients who use non-Gmail accounts, but not for others with non-Gmail accounts. Haven't been able to figure out a pattern. It does seem to treat each recipient the same each time I send to them (in other words it doesn't use the default email for a certain recipient one time and then the Gmail for that recipient another time).

  • ICal invite field types wrong characters

After upgrading from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.8-1.1 I can no longer invite people to events in iCal, when I start typing an email address within the invitee field the character I am typing changes to a different character. This is the only field that I have experienced this behavior in. I have upgraded other users within our organization from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issue, so the trouble appears to be based on something specific to the users account, because the results are inconsistent. I have not created a test user account, nor have I tried booting this computer in safe mode. But will try when I have access to this computer and then update this post. Has anyone else experienced this?

Okay, so after spending several hours with Apple tech support I was able to resolve my problem, hope this helps. The user had manually synced their Address Book contacts with their iPhone and a Google contacts list. Both of these syncs as well as manually adding new contacts into the Address Book on their iMac caused the Address Book to get completely scrambled. The user had cards with no title, but as many as five (unrelated) email addresses assigned to the card. This same Address Book contained multiple address cards like this, yet each one was slightly different. The user also had cards with titles containing special characters (&;?-_/   etc.), the quick answer for me was, the user had o go through their Address Book on their iPhone and their iMac and completely descramble the bad data. Then before a fresh sync they had to turnoff sync with Google contacts within iTunes. Once the bad data was removed the invitee field with iCal immediately started to perform as expected without fail. What a relief to have this issue resolved.

  • Selecting email acct in New Message + outgoing server??

Help me understand how to easily select email account from which to originate a new outbound message. The issue is as follows:
    a. Under SUBJECT line, I can clearly select the email account from which to send from
    but....
    b. What is with the drop down box to the right of email selection drop down box to choose a outgoing email server?
Do you have to make a two step process when changing email account from which sending from?

The two are independent. 'From' enables you to choose the address from which the message is seen as coming by the recipient. If for example you own a couple of domains, each giving you an email address, you might be forwarding these to your normal ISP's mail, or collecting directly from the domain provider's POP server: when you reply to these various messages you would want to choose the account associated with them so replies to your your replies come to the correct address.
The server you would normally use would be your ISP: as a general rule other services won't allow you to use their outgoing servers unless you are connected directly to them (by dial-up for example) and you would use your ISP's server to send. If you have a Google Mail or MobileMe account then you can send using their outgoing server, and you can choose whether to use that or your ISP's server: it doesn't make much difference, but if there is a problem with your ISP then you might be able to use another as an alternative: you can set the preferred outgoing server with each account so in general you don't need this drop-down menu to be visible.
Note by the way that the MobileMe outgoing server won't allow you to use any address other than your MobileMe one, as a security measure.

  • Outgoing server settings for MAC MAIL with multiple accounts?!

if i got paid to do this, my outgoing mail server issues would be somewhat amusing but as it stands they are really extremely annoying.
i have multiple email accounts (multiple addresses with multiple hosts - gmails, domain based email, me.com address etcetera).
does ANYONE know if there is an FAQ on what is recommended with respect to the settings on whether to tell mail to ONLY USE the one outgoing server and/or anything with the other settings?
i feel like i am in a pachinko parlor when i send mail because there is constantly an error of some kind and then i try dropping the mail through a different outgoing server by selecting a different one from the list and i just do this until it goes out. oftentimes i don't find out it didn't go out until the NEXT DAY becasue i am working and this alert gets hidden behind my other windows where i do actual productive work.
any ideas? i have two domain based websites (multiple emails with two SMTP addresses), two GMail accounts and me.com...
    THANKS!

    hi. CS. thanks.
do you know what this does as a practical matter? i mean, is it NECESSARY to check this box? will it try other outgoing servers and NOT WORK if you don't check this box? conversely, will it NOT try other outgouing servers if this one is unavailable if i check this (presumably the answer is yes here). i mean - am i likely to run into fewer problems by checking this box and i assume it is necessary to use the OUTGOING SERVER of the actual domain you are trying to send mail from as opposed to - for example - using GMAIL outgoing server for everything because you think you will get less errors than sending from your email domain outgoing server.
you know what i am saying? i mean, i get a bootload of errors and actually can't send mail these days even though Connection Doctor is telling me everything is hunky dory.
also, what is meant by "Offline"? do i have to go in and tell it to take everything on line for some reason and is this totally separate (telling it to go online) from checking things in Connection Doctor?
    THANK YOU

  • Mail outgoing server choice not sticking

I've got Mail set up to only use one outgoing server (or a default server), but it is not abiding by this and instead wants to default to my iCloud outgoing server. Does anyone know how to clear this issue and get things working correctly again? Also, the default server that I want to use (and was using just fine until this problem began) is for an Exchange account.
    Thanks

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Saving Drafts on IMAP account that's forced to use SMTP outbound server

    Hi!
Occasionally, I'll get messages from OSX Mail telling me that it can't save a copy of a draft on an IMAP address, and when I send said message, it never shows up in my sent items folder.
Due to limitations with my ISP, I cannot use the IMAP outbound server (they block 25, and my IMAP's outbound port only operates on 25.). Instead, I use an SMTP server that I have for another account.
Any thoughts as to why A.) It's not saving in the sent folder, B.) I cannot save drafts, and C.) This only happens occasionally?
    -Jonathan

    Jonathan,
Typically, the choice of SMTP used as Outgoing Server, does not have to match the account of the From address, and the SMTP provided by your ISP would not prevent Mail from saving the message from the IMAP account in the proper Sent mailbox. However, with IMAP accounts, it is normal and necessary to choose a folder on the IMAP server, and tell Mail to use that folder for the Sent message (via the aforementioned "Use This Mailbox For" command), if the selection in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors is to save the Sent messages on the Server. Without this choice, Mail should create a Sent mailbox that will reside on your Mac's hard drive. There is a similar choice for the Drafts.
In the Sidebar to the Mail window, does your Inbox for the IMAP account have any small black triangle beside it, or at the bottom of the Sidebar, are there any folders you have not created, or perhaps an Icon in the form of a sphere with "@" in its center?
