ICal is stuck.

I don't remember what I did, but now my iCal is stuck.  It won't respond to any commands.   All it does is give me the following box at the top of the iCal window:
In order to get rid of iCal, I have to do a force quit.   The program won't respond to command-quit.
I can't use iCal on this computer.
How do I get iCal to stop doing whatever it is trying to do with some unknown server?

Hi Richard, I had the exact same issue. Spent 6 hours with support staff who got me to reinstall Mavericks, do numerous safe boots, and perform various strange CVC and NVPRAM resets as well as deleting some 3rd party software they believed was the problem! none of it worked.
And then I found this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23829145?ac_cid=tw123456#23829145
30 seconds effort to delete a single calendar cache file sorted it immediately without even having to reboot!
Worth a try. T

  • ICal gets "stuck" on date - can't view a different week without quitting

I haven't seen anyone else post this, but it's getting really annoying. Every now and then, iCal gets "stuck" on a particular week. If I click on a new date in the calendar, it is highlighted, but the date I am on remains highlighted as well, and the week view does not change to the new week.
When I am clicking on "To Dos" the list magically moves from the item I am clicking to another item on an earlier date - essentially the list scrolls to the top of the list, and instead of clicking on the item I want, I am clicking on whatever item is in the bottom of the window when viewed from the top of the list. When this happens, the week view changes to the week of that "To Do" item's due date, and - again - will not let me change the week that I'm viewing.
Anyone know of something I can delete or purge or cross out with a magic marker to make this stop happening?

Actually, I only addressed your first complaint about the view being stuck to a specific week when a todo item in that week is selected.
It turns out I am also experiencing something that looks like your second complaint, about the wrong todo item being selected when you try to click on one. What I am seeing is the following: just like you can't show a date and its events outside of the current week if a todo item in the current week is selected, you can't show a todo item outside of the current week if an event in the current week is selected. If you scroll down and try to select the todo item, the list scrolls back up automatically, and you end up selecting a different todo item in the current week.
I also reported this to Apple in the same bug report.
So, good rules of thumb are the following:
    - If you want to select/show an event or a day outside of the current week, make sure you first select an event in the current week;
    - If you want to select a todo item outside of the current week, make sure you first select a todo item in the current week.
Hope this helps, while the guys at Apple are (hopefully) working on a fix. But I am rather pessimistic. My experience with bugs I reported in the past is that they are only fixed if they are critical, security-related bugs. If they are just usability bugs with workarounds like this one, they are only fixed in the next major release of OS X. But let's cross our fingers. There are so many people complaining about iCal on these forums that Apple might want to do something about it. But people who have complaints or requests about a product should send them directly to Apple, and assume by default that they are not reading this forum.
You can send your complaints on the following site:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
The more people file complaints, the more likely they are to be fixed soon. You might want to put a link to this discussion thread so they know exactly what you are complaining about.

  • My iCal is stuck "updating".  How do I get it to stop?

My iCal is stuck updating.  I've been using an iCloud calendar for quite a while.  All of a sudden it's stuck "updating".  I've quit iCal and restarted it and it's still stuck.  Rebooting the iMac doesn't help either.  Other than the "updating" at the top all seems to be working.

  • HT2513 importing ical data stuck- how do I stop it?

importing ical data stuck- how do I stop it?

    Greetings,
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Ical is stuck on upgrading !

My ical has been stuck on "Upgrading ical Calendars" for two days now - i have force quit but still same - can anyone help please?

    jrObert,
The advice that was given for the OP was offered almost three years ago, and the OP was using OS X 10.6. You are most likely using a newer version of OS X. Try this updated list of instructions.
    1. Disconnect your computer from your internet connection.
    2. From the  Menu, select Force Quit...>Calendar.
    3. Paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
    4. Then open the Calendars Folder in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
    5. Next open the Preferences Folder in the same Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
    6. Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • Ical is stuck in importing

I'm stuck in "importing iCal data"... when I try to shutdown, iCal cancels the shutdown...
I can't restart my laptop... help.. it's been in this state since 4am this morning..
I can get into other applications and go online, but I can't shut my laptop down..
it's stuck in iCal... oh, "quit iCal" is not an option...
    help..

    Try a force quit:
    option,command,esc.
If this does not work you can do a hard shut down (not reccomended) hold the power button down till it shuts down.

  • Ical is stuck syncing then turns off

I have my ical setup to sync with my google calendar and right now its stuck in some kind of loop where it is trying to download a ton of events and it won't stop and let me stop it so I can click off the sync or clikc off the calendar. it just keeps running and then shuts down.
Is there a way to turn off the sync without starting ical or stop it from trying to load anymore events?

THIS is happening to me too and i have dione all the things ive see to do on line nothing is working

  • ICal events stuck on GMT time zone on 10.7.5

I have mac OS X 10.7.5. When I download an invite from Evite, or TripIt. The items comes to my iPhone in the correct timezone, but not on my iMac. My iMac defaults to GMT. i have updated the preferecens, added time zone support, and it still loads in GMT. How do I fix this?  iCal is version 5.0.3.  I think the issue only comes when I download invitations from others.

First since your iMac is running OS 10.7.5, you have an Intel-based iMac, and yu posted this thread in a forum for PowerPC (pre-Intel-Based) iMacs.  So you might not get many responses.
I have one suggestion, and I'm not sure it will help, but try this and see if it helps.
Open your System Preferences.  Clcik on Date and Time, make sure you have the correct time zone setting, the click the open lock in the bottom leftof the window, to lock the settings from being changed.  To open the lock later, you'll need totype in your system password.
I doubt this the actual correct fix for your problem, but it might help in the mean time.
    Good luck.

  • ICal getting stuck at "Importing iCal Data..." when trying to import .ics file

I recently discovered I had 2 iCloud accounts.  Since I only want to use one account I decided to export my entire iCal to a .ics file to my desktop, delete my old iCloud account, and then import the .ics file into my new iCloud account.  This is all being done on the same computer (iMac).  But when I try to import the file it immediately displays "Importing iCal data..." but just stays there forever.  I left it for about an hour today and it never imported.  This file is only 206 bytes.  Can anyone help me?

After long investigation I made the assumption that my original .ICS file was somehow corrupted.  Fortunately I remembered that all my calendar data was still on my other iCloud account so I was able to recover the data from there, make a 2nd .ICS file, and repeat this process to transfer my calendar info.  Hopefully you are able to do the same.

  • ICal stuck displaying 'importing iCal data'.  I can not shut down.

iCal is stuck displaying 'importing iCal data' with a candy cane display to the side.  I can not close iCal nor shut down.  How do I determine where it is seeking data?  How do I get it stopped?

    adboger,
    Force quit iCal. >Force Quit>iCal.
Then remove the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the .plist file to your desktop.. Also go to your HD/Users/yourusernam/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal/Calendar for functionality.
To find the correct Library Folder for Preferences/Calendar, select Finder>Go and depress the Option key.

  • Syncing issues between outlook and Ical

My ICAL and Outlook 2011 are not syncing. ICAL seems stuck. Have been the entire gamut with Microsoft and it seems ICAL is the issue.

  • How to change ical to mm/dd/yyyy

Hi - My iCal seems stuck in dd/mm/yyyy and I prefer to use mm/dd/yyyy
How would I go about changing this? I ran into a problem when I tried to add an event from a date in my apple mail... It added it to Nov 9, 2010 instead of Sept 11, 2010 !!!
    Please advise thank you!

Thanks that worked for now! Gave me some message about not being compatible with 'older versions' (of what I don't know) and that it will revert to the most compatible version when necessary.
    Thanks!

  • ICal, Mail and Finder times all stuck since upgrade!  System clock O.K.

    Very strange problem:
All of my calendar event times (in iCal), email message receipt times (in Mail), and file modification/creation times (in Finder) are listed as some time between 7:00-7:59 AM or PM, regardless of time of day! My system clock (as it appears in the menu bar) is fine!
    More details:
iCal: the events still look like they're at the right times, i.e. the blocks are in the right places, with the correct spacing, etc etc, they are just labeled with times between 7:00-7:59 AM/PM. Similarly, alarms go off at the correct time. Also, in the day or week listing, the column on the left which is supposed to show times instead just says "Sat" for all times, except "Noon" (at noon).
This is continuous since upgrading to snow leopard a couple weeks ago. Seemingly no other problems besides this.
I don't know much about the OS, but I don't understand how the system clock (in the menu bar) could be fine, but every other sign of time-keeping is completely off. I just its just something about the labeling of times, instead of the actual record of them?!
I have screen shots of the problems if that might help clarify (apparently I can't attach them however).
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    Any solutions to your problems?
Just found my Mom has the same 'time stuck' problem (iMac OS X 10.6.7) Finder 'Date Modified' is stuck at 2/14/2011. Also, the Time/Date displays correctly on the Menu bar but when click on it, the drop down menu shows a gray out 2/14/2011, etc.
Much appreciated of any help. Thx.

  • HT2513 How can I fix iCal that is jammed/frozen/nonresponsive after trying to past in a calendar entry.  I've restarted program and computer.  Unable to remove entry and associated message "the server responded with an error" ICal stuck updating.  Help?

I was trying to past an entry and the iCal program froze with an error message that can't be deleted, the program stuck indicating updating and totally non-reponsive.  i can only exit by force quit.  It is stuck on yesterday which is the day I was trying to paste an entry.  I think the entry was too large.  How can I get out of this.  i've restarted the program and the ocmputer but it doesn't change.  I wonder if I could use time machine to go back to a previous cal version?  Any ideas?  I have my cal also on iphone and at icloud so I am not at a total loss.  Except that i cal is now totally non functional.

    Joe,
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.
