ICal isn't making changes to calendar

I use iCal for our companies production calendar. Lots of events on different days but these repeat every month. Since updating to Yosemite when I move an event to a different day and so on then move to the next month when I go back all those changes are moved to another date. For example Jan 13 event moves to Jan 12 I move it over and the next thing its back on the 13. The calendar is synced to my iCloud (it needs to stay synced).

Ok, here what I'm getting. I'll try to be clear.
I have the exact same problem. At first, I thought it was a syncing problem with my iPhone but then I realized it has something to do with iCloud vs my Macbook.
Like listed above by sbelo, If I create a recurring event with the same name it will work/sync with all devices perfectly.  If I change the name of one of them with my iPhone, it will work/sync perfectly too. As soon as I touch to my macbook pro or if I refresh my calendar on the laptop, it will go back to the original name. If I try changing names with my Macbook, it doesn't work. Oh but it might be a syncing problem like I used to have with my PC and Outlook......So I turned off all my devices except my macbook. Tried again, STILL DOESN'T WORK!!!. After trying 4-5 times, I just gave up and went online to seek for an answer. Still not found.
Please Apple, give us hope!! What's wrong??
I'm using a Macbook Pro late 2011 - Yosemite with an iPhone 6, latest iOS (at this moment : iOS 8.1.2)

  • Viewing ical in .mac-making changes from web

Can anyone answer definitively the following:
Can one's iCal be viewed at one's .mac account page, or does one need to "publish" it to the web?
If the latter, is it even viewable from one's .mac account page?
If "publishing" is necessary for remote viewing of one's iCal, can one alter it remotely (via .mac or the web from a computer other then one's own)?
Apple's comments on all this are curiously vague.
    Thanks.
    emac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    cue,
    1. Your iCal data is not viewable from the .mac page.
    2. When published, it must be viewed at the following URL> http://ical.mac.com/yourusername/yourcalendarname
    3. Publishing changes must be made from iCal on the original host computer, except that another Mac which is synced through .Mac could make changes if authorized.According to iCal Help...Synchronization is the process of updating information on different computers or devices so that all copies of your files contain the latest changes. For example, if you have calendars on more than one computer, you can synchronize them so that each computer has the latest information.
If you have a .Mac membership, you can synchronize your calendars across multiple computers via the Internet. To synchronize calendar information on your computer, mobile phone, Palm OS device, or iPod, use iSync (in your Applications folder).

  • Why does iCal change what calendar my event is saved in?

When I try to save evnts in a calender that isn't my standard choise calendar, iCal saves it, but then it takes about 2 sec and then iCal changes the colour of the event and saved it in my standard calandar.
What can i do to get it to stopp?
    /EM

Oops, I didn't notice.  iCal has changed names, and now is called Calendar.  I have Calendar 8.0 and am running Yosemite, OS X 10.10.1

  • Suddenly cannot change the calendar for an event in iCal?

When I creart new events, they now automatically are asigned to the top calendar group (as listed on the left side of the iCal screen).  When I try to edit the event and asign it to a different calendar, the menu only shows the calendar groups, all in grey, not the individual calendars.
When I go to preferences to investigate what's going on, I only see the calendar groups, all in grey, not the individual calendars.
When I click on the "+" sign in the top-left corner, same problem, only the calendar groups appear, all in grey.
Why can I suddenly not access these calendars when editing an event?  Why do they stop showing up in the editing menus?
The calendar still show up in the list menu on the left. I still can add new calendars and new calendars groups.  The problem occurs when I try to assign an event to a specific different calendar.

Saw your post Beth over on my thread but I thought I would respond on this one since we're all here.
    Hi y'all (^_^)
Sorry to meet under such horrid circumstances, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.
I've found out a few things that didn't work so here's the list to save you both some heartache.
No type of re-install fixes is. Not a partial reinstall of the OS where you keep your data or a full wipe.
Checking your permissions or scanning the disk for errors doesn't work either. Creating a dummy user account to see if the problem ports over is a waist of time. If you don't have free support on your machine don't spend money on opening a ticket.
The problem is specific to the Mountain Lion release 10.8.3. The only fix that I have found while I wait on apple is to regress back to 10.8.1 (18.8.2 has the issue also) . . . reverting isn't hard to do with this nifty program I found but nearly impossible for me as I purchased my iMac in February of this year and the firmware came with 10.8.3 in the recovery partition. I've been scowering the net looking for anyone with a 10.8.1 full install dmg (not the update) but everyone either thinks I'm pirating software or doing something impossible so needless to say I'm still running 10.8.3
But all is not as bad off as we think. The problem is only with Calendar (or contacts, whichever place originated the problem as I have found the majority of people on the net who have encountered this did so while in the Contacts program not Calendar). This is a good thing! Because since the problem is unique to the software of origin (Calendar for us) that means we can still use use Calendar and the cross-program functions of Calendar (like creating an even from mail or inviting someone from your contacts) as if nothing is wrong. All programs that read event or calendar files work just great, only Calendar is having the issue. In other words, keep using Calendar like there isn't a problem.
This is a hard pill for me to swallow because I see that there is still a problem and I am itching to fix it. My obsession is only causing me to drink. I have tested this theory by creating a whole new schematic on iCal where I have 6 new Calendar groups all with at least 3 calendars in it and multiple events. (I'm a small business so they're not just dummy events). The great news is everything works like it should as long as I take precautions.
    Here are those precautions:
1 - When creating a new event MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE CALENDAR YOU WANT THAT EVEN TO BE IN since you won't be able to use the drop down and choose later because it is greyed out for us.
2 - If you run into this loop where you can't save changes to an event (happened to me a few times when the problem first materilized) just pop the calendar that even is inside to the base calendar list. In other words, take the calendar out of the group, make your changes, then click and drag it back into the group. Even if the event is recurring everything will be fine. Groups only alter the hierarchy of how iCal stores and displays the files, not the files themselves which is why other programs aren't having a problem reading them.
After I made my slew of new groups I tried a few things out to make sure everything was actually still working and it all came out perfect. You can still publish, sync to google, or iPhone, or android and things will display just as you expect them too. Reminders even worked. The problem is ONLY inside iCal and even then only when trying to use that drop down menu.
Long story short, if you can deal with knowing in your gut that things are f.u.b.a.r but keep going about using iCal as if it isn't, then you will survive the long wait (prob 2-3 weeks) until the 10.8.4 patch comes out or worse yet the 10.8.5 major release this summer.
Sorry this is such a long post (and for the misspellings) but sharing is caring so let's get through this together. Plus I don't know about y'all, but I spent 3K on my iMac so if this b!tch ain't gonna work like it's suppose to then it better be because of something major. . . I figured you all might be feeling the same so I should tell you just how major this bug is. And it is major, so much so that people are literally creating programs to disenfiect 10.8.3 out of their machine. If the application developer working with me comes up with a fix I will update the thread. Until then, try not to pull you hair out (~_~)

How do I get my calendar to sync on iCloud?  I changed a calendar event on my iPhone 4 and it has not changed in Entourage on my MacBook.  This is supposed to be automatic, isn't it?

Entourage will not sync with iCloud, not now, probably not ever, time to change.

  • How to change color of iCal event, without changing the calendar.

I have my work Exchange calendar imported to iCal.  When I want to change the color of an event in iCal, it actually changes the event to a differnet 'calendar' and therefore no longer shows up on my work calendar.  This wouldn't be a problem, excpet my secretary can no longer see the event on my work calendar that shows up on her PC.  So how can I change the color of 1 event, say to 'Important' or 'Must Attend', without changing the calendar?

    Welcome to the discussions, spet.
Right click (Control-click) the calendar you want to change in the left pane and select Get Info. There is a colour selection button to the right of the calendar name..

There's a non Apple supported hack/methode that may let you share iCal calendars: iCloud Mail settings in Snow Leopard

  • Changes to calendar on iPhone don't appear on iCal or iCloud calendar

Objective: make changes to calendar on iPhone (iOS 5.0.1), iPad (iOS 5.0.1), iCal (on MAC with 10.7.3) that automatically sync with each other through iCloud.
I had a MobleMe account and moved to iCloud. However, when I make changes to my calendar on iPhone or iPad they do not appear in iCal on MAC or on iCloud calendar.
As an aside, when I make changes to iCal or on iCloud they do appear on iPhone if I connect it to iTunes.
Ive been searching through forums and trying different things all day & still can't figure it out.

Oh yes, and I forgot. Click the rectangle button on top left (Caldendar) in iCal. Make sure that iCloud calendar is listed and that when you are adding an event, you are actually adding it to the selected iCloud calendar, and not some silly Work or Home calendar under On My iPad.

  • I want to change my calendars...

I am lazy... well, not really, but I am looking for the lazy way to do this:
I have been pretty good about organizing my calendars so that I have a separate one for work, home, social, medical, church, family, and other random types of events. This is great...
    BUT
I have 2 separate computers that I use, and I don't have .mac, so I can't really sync them like that. What I want to do is transfer the new items from one of my computers to the other one, but I don't want a bunch of duplicates. I am therefore trying to create a calendar that has all of the events I have created in the past month so I can take them home and put them on my computer there. I have been selecting each event and selecting this new calendar, but I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to either drag and drop events into a calendar, or when multiple events are selected (using the event list) move all of the selected events to a different calendar. I suppose that I can take the time to go through one by one... but it is such a pain.
So, if anyone else has either had this problem or knows how to solve it, I would like to hear from you!
This is one of the only features I miss from the short time I used outlook... dragging and dropping events into categories and the ability to schedule meetings online and have the details automatically be entered into the calendar. It looks like there may be support for this in the new mail/ ical, but I haven't figured it out yet...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Liz,
You could select all the events you want, and then Control-Click one of them. This opens a contextural menu. One of the options in this menu is Calendar. You can change the calendar of all the selected events in one go from here.
    Best wishes

  • ICal error - can't see the calendars on opening...

iCal error - can't see the calendars on opening... unless i change the view - but then still the portlet in the top left hand corner remains blank.
Re-installed the whole OSx system from original disks and still the same problem.
cleared out the cache files, including trying to delete the metadata files... taken to my local Apple Centre (Academy) but no sucess so far.
Any ideas? Is it because i have around 8 calendars? Is that too many?
Could it be 'cos I sync with Missing Sync for my Palm TX?
    H E L P !!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

When a user launches iCal, they may have one of the following symptoms:
    * When iCal is launched the calendar is blank -- no calendars are listed on the left and no events appear in the day/week/month views
    * Switching views allows all events to appear but the calendars on the left are still missing
    * User can create a new event and designate a calendar but when the event is saved it cannot be seen
    * Clicking in the blank space where the calendars are supposed to be has no effect.
This issue is a Sync Services issue and not directly related to The Missing Sync. Mark/Space has identified a couple of solutions to this problem that others have reported. For more information, see: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060207074628694
    1) Quit iCal
    2) Locate the folder, User/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/ and delete the contents
    3) After deleting the files from this folder, lock the "Sources" folder. Do this by navigating up one level and selecting the "Sources" folder. Perform a "Get Info" (either through the "File" menu or by pressing Command-I with the "Sources" folder selected) then click the lock icon.
    4) Launch iCal and your calendars should reappear. Note that the relaunch of iCal will create a default 'Home' and 'Work' calendar, so make sure none of your calendars have the same names as the default .
    Do some backups first
    Follow those simple steps
    5) Go to Address Book, click on 'File' menu and choose 'Back up Address Book'. Go to iCal, click on 'File' menu and choose 'Back up database'.
    6) Go to Missing Sync and double click on the Backup Conduit and set it to backup all databases. Then run the sync with just that Backup conduit selected, disable all other conduits.
    7) Go to: /Users/<user name>/Documents/Palm/Users/<hotsync name>/ now hold the 'ctrl' key and click on the /Backups/ folder. Choose the option to 'Create Archive of "Backups"'. This is to safeguard your backed up data in case anything goes wrong.
Now 'Reset Sync History' using the iSync preferences option. The first sync will likely be slower.
    8) Launch iSync
    9) Click on the iSync menu
    10) Choose Preferences (make sure the "Enable syncing on this computer" is checked)
    11) Click the 'Reset Sync History' button. Read and follow the onscreen directions.
    12) This may launch iCal. Also the status of the reset is showing in the iSync display. When the reset is complete quit both iSync and iCal.
Launch Missing Sync and enable the Mark/Space Events and Tasks conduits and set them to Desktop overwrite Handheld. Disable all other conduits.
Then sync, when you do, you will get a dialog box with an orange iSync icon on it. Check the box to erase the device, then click the 'Allow' button. It will overwrite your device. You will get one for events, one for tasks, and one for contacts. The next time you sync .mac or other devices that sync with iSync like an iPod, you will get these same dialog boxes for their databases and you should check the box and click 'Allow' in those cases as well.
If you press the don't allow button you will need to reboot your computer.

  • Bulk change of calendar items

I had this sync problem with my Palm, and ended up with all of my appointments going into the Unfiled calendar. I want most of them to be in my business calendar. Is there a reasonably easy way to select a lot of them and tell it to change them all at once. I am going through month by month, shift-clicking to select, then ctrl-clicking to get the pulldown menu to change the calendar of the selected items.
It's just kind of tedious. Any better way?
    Thanks, Tony

Final comment on this topic I hope. The list view is nice in the sense that I can see all my iCal items in a list. However, changing the calendar for the items is incredibly slow. It takes roughly one minute per item. Even if I am changing them in the calendar, as long as the list is open it is really slow.
It will be faster to use the calendar view to change the items, but the list view to check to make sure I got them all. This is really sad. I hope Apple can put a little more effort into these basic productivity apps.
    Cheers,
    Tony

  • Changing a calendar of a webDAV event generates a 502 error

    To reproduce:
    1. Select an event in iCal that is served from a WebDAV Server.
    2. Using the optional click, change the calendar of the Event to another calendar on the same server.
Result: iCal returns a "The server responded with“502” to operation CalDAVMoveEntityQueueableOperation.”
Expected: The event to be changed to the newly selected calendar.
Note: This functions correctly with local calendars
Note: For an in-depth exploration, refer to http://itechieguy.com/page1/files/iCal_error_saving_edited_event_redux.html.

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I often do the same thing (ie create an event in the wrong calendar). Are you aware that the assigned calendar appears in the info pane. You could simply select the correct calendar there, even reassign events.
I understand the desire to do this with Quickeys, though I suspect very few people here use Quickeys. So if you don't get an answer here I'd suggest you consider the Quickeys forum: http://forum.cesoft.com/

  • Making changes in Mail

making changes; delete, move to iCloud folder, etc.; in Mail with Mountain Lion has no effect; must use iCloud webpage to make changes.  Didn't have this problem with Lion.

didn't change any setting/preferences in Mail.
Mail works correctly on wife's MacBook Pro
Do your settings correspond to your wife's under each of these three tabs in Mail Preferences? (The first few characters in the Incoming Mail Server address may be slightly different.)
Have you checked your Mail preferences at icloud.com to make sure iCloud isn't moving your messages locally?

  • ICal Wiki Groups - Can't Modify Calendar Entry - Error Bad Gateway

    Hello All,
Recently found out how to add a wiki calendar to iCal however it seems rather buggy. I can add calendar entries just fine but when I go about modifying an entry it spits out:
    The server responded with
    “HTTP/1.1 502 Bad Gateway”
    to operation CalDAVMoveEntityQueueableOperation.
    Anyone else see this problem?

i have the same problem. i have my own snow leopard server running ical server. 5 users, (typical) shared calendaring. i personally have multiple calendars created. i see this error when i try to change the calendar of an invited event (from work to personal, for example).
    any thoughts?

  • ICal crashes after I changed my Google password

Some time ago I set up iCal to sync with my Google calendar. This worked fine until recently when I reset my Google password. Now when I try and login to iCal I get the following error message...
"The server responded with an error. the server did not recognise your user name or password xxxxxx@xxxxxx. Make sure you enter them correctly"
The only option on the dialogue box is OK and when I click on this the message is re-displayed. If I click on OK again iCal crashes and generates a long error report.
Presumably the problem is that iCal is trying to connect to my Google account with my old password. However there doesn't seem to be anyway to go in and change this - or even delete the Google account - as iCal crashes before I can access any of the menu options.
The iMac I'm using is running OSX 10.6 which I realise is a bit ancient but up until now has worked fine

I looked on Google support as suggested by Eric, but this pointed me back to the Apple support forums where I came across this thread which I hadn't seen before.
Like other thread on the subject it had a lot of suggestions that didn't look helpful. However after reading through the various posts I tried the following.
    1. I went off-line from the intranet, and that meant that I could actually open iCal to update my password within iCal. However when you go back online you still get errors and therefore have to go through steps 2 & 3 for a complete solution.
    2. I then made sure all my Google related passwords within Keychain were correct using Keychain Access
    3. I then ran Keychain First Aid from within Keychain Access
Once I had done all those things I was able to get back into iCal without any errors.
