ICal, iSync, Alarms, causing my palm Treo 650 not to update

Hi All,
Looked around a bit and didn't see a solution to this issue and was hoping to find some information of confirm that it is a bug and I am not going crazy.
A couple days ago I noticed that the events I entered on my Treo 650 were not getting synced to iCal through iSync. Upon looking closer, I noticed that the reverse was true as well: Events I added to iCal were not getting synced to the treo.
The iSync logs said that everything was syncing successfully despite the problem. I double checked my settings on the treo and in iSync to make sure the calendars were scheduled to sync. All 6 of my calendars were checked to sync. Since this was all working a couple days prior, I assume the settings were correct.
After resetting my treo and restoring a back-up in an attempt to get my calendar to work properly, I noticed that the calendars listed in iSync disappeared even though they still existed and seemed to work in iCal. iSync keep trying to tell me to open iCal to add a new calendar because there were none.
After more fiddling I was only able to get iSync to properly list my current calendars by deleting a specific calendar. When I removed it entirely in iCal(I backed it up so I could test things out), iSync would update in a matter of seconds but if I put it back, no matter what I did, iSync would not update.
Finally, I started removing specific events in the calendar. It seems when I removed all the events that contained "alarms" (which I had started playing with a couple days prior). The calendars would work again. So I suspect iCal alarms as a culprit.
I can make due without the alarms for now, but would like to start using them again. I was starting to schedule applescripts to perform specific activities scheduled through iCal.
Has anybody else run into this problem and/or found a workaround that allows you to use iCal with your palm/treo and schedule applescript alarms? Any advice would be great. Or, if you are having the same problem I am, check to see if you have alarms in iCal.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.2 on a dual G5
iCal Version 2.0.2 (1038)
iSync Version 2.1 (88.0)
Treo 650 (Verizon) (firmware update 1.03)
Thanks,
Michael

Verizon Wireless does not now offer—and has not historically offered—the Palm Treo 680. The Treo 680 is a GSM device, and not compatible with the Verizon network. Verizon currently offers the Palm 700p and the 700wx, and has previously offered various Palm and Windows Mobile devices beginning with the Palm Treo 600.
The anomalies you see are likely the result of issues with iSync and the iSync Palm conduit, and not with the device itself. With an advanced Palm device such as any Treo beyond the 600, you should instead opt to use either…
• the Missing Sync for Palm OS, or
• the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
…selecting whichever one supports the operating system of your particular Treo. In your case with a Treo 680, that's the Missing Sync for Palm OS.

  • ISync Cannot Connect to Palm Treo 650 Device

OK, I have paired the device with my Mac, I have installed Palm Desktop, I have successfully synced via bluetooth with the Palm Conduit Manager, I enabled Palm OS syncing successfully in iSync, and when I try to add the device in iSync, my Palm beeps and shows that it's trying to connect but I get another window in iSync telling me: "1 device found. palmOne Device. iSync can not connect to this device."

Nevermind. Would help if I read. I needed to go to the HotSync Manager and check the Enable iSync Syncing box.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

If you press the Home button and open Security, you can change "Auto Lock Device" to "Never". Does that do what you want?

  • Can't sync address book with my palm treo 650

About a week ago, my sync stopped working for my G4 and palm treo 650. the hotsync works via bluetooth and there are no errors. When I look at my contacts and calendar, no events or contacts have been imported for the past week or so.
I downloaded the latest palm update for 650 and tiger, still nothing.
    Any suggestions

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

  • Send Mail from Palm Treo 650

I've had a Palm Treo 650 for about 6 months. I've been receiving mail from my .mac account, but when I try to send, I receive various errors, including authentication.
Has anyone out there experienced the same problem? I suspect it has something to do with IMAP setup. I've tried both ports 25 and 587. Also, I've included my user ID in my SMTP server setup and have taken it out.
    Cheers!

This may or may not help you...
I sync two computers through .Mac but don't use a .Mac email account. I've had a 650/Cingular for about 6 months. I use Apple Mail on two computers to poll two POP accounts with my ISP (Charter) and one IMAP account through my web host. I can receive mail on the 650 from all accounts with no problems. Sending or responding to messages on the IMAP account works fine through the 650, but I've never been able to do so with the POP accounts. I get the same error every time ("550 relaying mail to <email address> is not allowed"). It will let me send test emails to those POP accounts though! Unfortunately I don't have time to resolve the issue. Luckily my business account is the IMAP so It's not too critical for me to figure it out. I would try changing all accounts to IMAP to see if that would solve it, but I don't think Charter email works in IMAP.

  • Palm Treo 650 Sync wiped out my address book--HELP!!

Got a replacement Treo 650; went to do my first hard sync. Not only did calendar not port over, but it completely wiped out my entire address book (except for two records created yesterday). Freaked out!! All my iSync settings are the same as previous and have always worked. What to do? Thankfully I still have my old Treo 650 with address book intact, but no one seems able to tell me how to reverse port that address book to my MacBook Pro.
    Pul-eeze someone help me!

This was likely caused by introducing an 'empty' Treo into your synchronization framework with the same HotSync name and without having reset the framework before doing so. The framework properly recognized the new devices as the old—but now empty—device, and removed all of the records from iCal and the Address Book as it should have.
Simply backing up both databases using the built in facility to do so, or assigning a new HotSync name to the replacement device would have either allowed you to immediately recover from this unforeseen consequence, or to have avoided it entirely.
Before you do anything else, you should read this document so that you understand how the synchronization framework operates.
Then, reset the framework by launching iSync, opening the Preferences… pane, and pressing the Reset Sync History… button. This will leave your sync clients registered and your data—such as it is at this point—intact, and set the truth database to appear as if you have never synchronized at all. When you attach your identically named original device, be sure that you choose to Merge data with your computer and not to Replace the data on it.
Once you have merged the data, open iCal and the Address Book and make any changes that you wish to to your data, then pause to back each database up using the built-in option in each application to do so. Synchronize once again, and you changes will not only have been backed up, but distributed across your synchronization pool.

  • Syncing iCal and Address Book w/ my Treo 650 (Who overwrites who?)

I am able to sync both address book and ical with my treo 650.
    My question is:
    1. When I change a date or contact's info on my treo why does it not change that entry on my Mac? It adds a different one.
    2. Each time I sync I get the message for both Address book and iCal that entries will be deleted or modified on my computer. The numbers are not consistent each time I sync. I usually have to cancel the sync because many entries (I'm not sure which ones) will be deleted. How do I tell iSync or Hotsync Manager that my Computer gets priority?
Sometimes I get the conflict window that asks which entries (iCal or Treo) should be kept.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The synchronization framework should not behave as you describe. It appears that your truth database has become irreversibly corrupted, a condition which is easily corrected. Repeated cancellation of synchronization events likely has contributed to or amplified the underlying data corruption issue.
A couple of basics: all participants in this process, generally referred to as synchronization clients, are peers. They do not interact directly with each other, but rather through a process of pushing changes to and pulling changes from the truth database. You cannot set one to 'override' another, though you can reset both history [which empties the truth database, leaves your clients registered and your data intact, and results in a slow, initial synchronization during the next triggered event] and data—if using .Mac Sync—[which allows you to replace all contact, event and task records stored on your computer with those stored on the .Mac servers, or visa versa.]
The Conflict Manager is only invoked when iSync sees records with differences it cannot resolve at the field, rather than record, level. In such cases, it asks you to choose one record which most accurately represents the collection of data you want to keep for that contact, event or task.
To reset your synchronization history and prompt a complete restoration of your truth database, do this:
    • launch iSync
    • open the Preferences… dialog
    • press the Reset Sync History… button
This Apple developer document explains how these process work, and may clarify some of these issues for you.

  • Palm Treo 650 Bonus software question

How do I get a free download of the bonus software? I bought the phone from a friend and have installed palm desktop, but now i need the docs to go and such.
    Thanks in Advance!

Post relates to: Treo 650 (Alltel)

I don't know about the Treo 650 software, but a similar answer DTfromBH gives has been erroneously repeated for Treo 680 CD software. First time owners have been told they can't get replacements. The Bonus Software was actually freely available for download on the Palm site, contrary to what many were told when contacting customer support.  Since the demise of MyPalm Beta, I don't know the location of the Bonus Software download page, but it was there & the apps could be downloaded individually.
A license to single use means one individual may use the software for himself on one device only; it doesn't mean the software can't be replaced. That license would usually tranfer to the new owner. One is likely to be prohibited from transferring the software to another owner of another device, but not a subsequent owner of the same device.  The hitch is that the device must be registered with Palm in order to be eligible to purchase a replacement CD. However, as I said the Bonus Software had been available for download on MyPalm Beta, as was the Palm Desktop.

  • Outlook 07 synch to Palm Treo 650 Sync Conduit produces Contacts DUPLICATES in Outlook... Help!

I downloaded the Sync Conduit from Palm, ran a synch from Treo 650 to Outlook 2007 (Vista 32) and it created duplicates for most of my CONTACTS in Outlook 07, not all but most, wierd.
    Treo 650 (Cingular)   -  ( Palm Desktop 6.2 )  -   Outlook 2007 (Office 2007)    -   PC Dual Core Vista Home Premium
Can anyone help get Palm Conduit Sync to not create dups? I deleted all and tried it twice. There are no duplicates in the Treo or Desktop, never had a problem syncing to Palm Desktop, only to Outlook (I am converting from Windows Mail to Outlook)

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Te hotsync manager does not create duplicates.
You will need to clean up the contacts database in Outlook, hard reset your Treo, set the hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld and then sync.
Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding reset procedures.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887
There is a 3rd party app. that will remove duplicates in Outlook.
Here is the link to the site; http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/remove_duplicates/
One thing you may not be aware of is that Palm desktop 6.2 has the Outlook 2007 conduits already installed, you do not need to install the Outlook 2007 conduit update.
You may want to remove the 2007 conduit update using control panel.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • ICal event alarms aren't loud enough (and not long enough)...

I'm going to be getting my first smartphone very soon and am trying to decide which to get. I have an iMac, so I heavily favor the iPhone. But, I've run into a potential problem with Events in iCal:
I want to get an iPhone, use iCal for my schedule, and use MobileMe to keep everything synced. Until now, I've only used the calendar features in regular phones. I've been testing iCal on my Mac, and it clearly will be easier to program events into it.
My problem is iCal's audible alarm. I've been testing it by having it sound on my iMac (since I don't yet have an iPhone), and it seems you can only have a brief audible alarm sound (for instance, the "Glass" or "Basso" sound option with the "Message with Sound" option). I'm used to the calendars on regular cell phones, which have a loud alarm that repeats (like a cell phone ringer). Is there something I can do in iCal to make its alarm louder and repetitive on an iPhone?
I have a friend who has a droid phone and used the Google calendar. He says there is a setting on his phone (separate from the settings in Google's calendar) that lets him choose any ringer or .mp3 as the audible alarm for alerts from the Google calendar.
If I can't get a loud, repetitive alarm to sound on my iPhone with my iCal events, then it's really not going to work for me. The alarm will be going off on my iPhone and I will never hear it.
I know this question may be basic, but I really, really need an answer before I proceed (and I can't find the answer online). Thank you!

That is very surprising. Short of someone being able to recommend an app or other work around for this, the lack of such an audible alarm will rule the iPhone out for me. And I've waited a very long time for it to come to my carrier, so that is very disappointing.
It's really shocking to me that the designers wouldn't have started out by saying we need to have this smartphone incorporate every standard feature of previous regular phones. I had really not even thought that this could be a problem. I just stumbled on it and am astonished at the lack of a user ability to customize the alarm feature to a suitable sound.

  • Functions cause mappings to crash or not insert/update

    LS,
I am encountering some weird problems.
I've built a mapping with 2 tables as source, and in the end a table to insert stuff into and a monitor table which gets an update. This mapping never results in inserts or updates. If I check the Intermediate Results using TOAD, all queries deliver exactly what I expect to see. However, when I build the INSERT around it, things start to go wrong.
In one scenario I am using a SELECT which returns 1 row, then build INSERT around it and says "0 rows inserted".
In a similar scenario the SELECT returns 1 row, and the INSERT around it results in "invalid number"(ORA1722).
    Detailed description
What I use in this mapping is a transformation, a function in this case, which without parameters returns the ID of a file which needs to be processed (which is the PK in one source table and part of the PK in the other).
Since I use a splitter you see this function being called 2 or 3 times.
When I replace all occurrences of this function by the value it actually returns, the INSERT succeeds!!!
If I replace one with its original (the function) I get the "0 rows inserted".
When two or more occurrences of the function-call exist in the INSERT-SELECT I get "ORA-01722 invalid number".
If I do an INSERT from DUAL with all fixed values into this target table there is - of course - no problem.
If I use these same fixed values in combination with the FROM and WHERE of the original SELECT, it also 'crashes'.
    Any suggestions?

    Good morning Jean-Pierre,
No datatype conversion happening, and also the exact content was/is OK to convert (worked in SQL*Plus). Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the problem anymore since it - all of a sudden - worked again friday... WITHOUT ANY CHANGES TO CODE THAT IS.
So there you go, inconsistent behaviour... even though it is working now, it still gives me a sort of bad taste in the mouth, since you never know whether it'll happen again :-(
So far so good, I'll keep you posted when it happens again.
    Cheers, Patrick

  • ICal and iSync with Treo 650 and bluetoothing

    Hello,
I have a Palm Treo 650 with Sprint provider and I am trying to sync it with my iCal and Address Book on my MacBook Pro. I have synced the Treo with the laptop using the Cradle Cable once. When I did this, all the events from the Treo transfered straight over the Mac Pro but were deleted off the phone.
    1) How do I sync the two to have identical events, etc.?
I have heard that my iCal can also be synced using bluetooth. I've been reading on here trying to figure it out but nothing has been able to help me yet.
    2) How do I sync using the bluetooth capabilities?
I just signed up for a .Mac trial account to see if I had to be a member for the iCal to sync thru bluetooth but I haven't been able to figure it out. I have the Palm OS conduit installed. But I just need help answering these 2 questions if possible.
    Much appreciated!
"locmi01" I have read a few of your posts but nothing that I found could answer my questions.

I cannot explain why the events transfered from your Treo through the Sync Services framework where thereafter deleted if you were using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit. That should not have happened.
In order understand synchronization under Mac OS X 10.4 and later, you should read this document:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
To restore the data to your Treo, you should first make sure it is present in both iCal and the Address Book, back up both datasets using the option to do so under the File menu of each application, then…
    • launch iSync
    • open the Preferences… dialog
    • press the Reset Sync History… button and follow the directions which appear
You should opt to replace the information on your Treo when presented with the option to either merge or replace records.
With regard to Bluetooth synchronization, you must first get USB synchronization working properly. Only then should you pair your device initiating the process from your Treo and confirming it from your MacBook, then electing to initiate a HotSync Bluetooth sync session from your device.
Keep in mind that USB is a faster and wider path, and will result in faster, if not necessarily as convenient, synchronization.
