Ical/isync deletes old posts on N95??
Hi
When i Sync N95 with Ical (v. 3.0.5.) using Isync(v 3.0.2.), all post older than 2 monts are deleted from the phone?? Any way to avoid that?
And that's fine (that it won sync old tasks), but apparently it also means that it deletes whatever it Isync defines as old tasks (in my case older than two months), for no reason in my opinion. I tried different ways in the "more options" to solve the problem, nothing helped though?
Any good suggestions ?

When i upgraded to Leopard, iCal stopped deleting old events. I have it set to delete events older than 30 days, and it's not doing it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Message was edited by: auittoIt's a bug, it didn't work for me in Tiger either. I have the preference set to delete To Do items one day after they are completed. It rarely does. Sometimes it will work, and then it won't. It's flakey.

How do I keep iCal from deleting old appointments (after 90 days)?
For my business, I need to keep track of which clients I met on specific days. I keep notes about what we discussed in those calendar items. Also, I want to keep that record for my taxes.
I just discovered that iCal is deleting old calendar items after 90 days. I've gone into the Settings and tried to fix it, but there doesn't seem to be an option to save that data.
Has anyone else had this same challenge? Any suggestions?iCal's Preferences/Advanced

does anyone know how to delete old posts on this forum?
i changed my username awhile back because i had used my real name, but i have just noticed that some of my old posts still have my real name
thanksIf you can, post a link to the profile for your old Alias. One of the hosts will take a look and should be able to remove the posts for you.

Is there a way of getting rid of the posts in my account that have been solved? John
You mean marking them "solved" so they don't appear in the little question mark bubble box in the bottom-right corner of the windlow saying: "you have xx unsolved questions"?
I only know one way: go to those posts and mark them as "solved" (click the solved button right next to the reply button in one of the answer windows.)
If you mean deleting the post from the board entirely - that would be contrary to the board's purpose. People need to be able to search and browse (and learn from) old questions and answers so that the same questions doesn't have to be answered again and again. Many people don't do this but one really SHOULD search any new question first, before posting it. Saves a lot of time and effort for everyone.

IPhone sync to iCal not deleting old events!!
Can anyone help me? I just upgraded to the 10.5.2 and since that moment every time I change an event in my iCal and sync with my iPhone the iPhone keeps the old events and adds the new ones, so I end up having tons of duplicates. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution? Thanks
If you are in Toronto using an unlocked iPhone, I am not sure anyone here is going to be able to come up with a solution for a problem you are having once unlocked...
Apple relocks their iPhones if you upgrade to the eventual 1.1.4 or update iTunes. I don't know if they also change registry settings at all causing certain things to not work properly on unsupported iPhones.
IF you are using a standard ATT-based Apple supported iPhone, you can also try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, and resyncing to see if that helps.
Also - make sure that while connected under the INFO tab, you have the correct calendar selected for where you want to place new events, in case it somehow got unchecked during the update process.
I don't know about you, but 10.5.2 changed none of my settings and everything is syncing properly to iCal in both directions. -
HELP! iCal is deleting events, seemingly at random. It is also deleting everything more than a month old. Since I have no other record of my calendar, this is a disaster.
This has nothing to do with icloud, as my Mac is showing the identical calendar with identically missing items. Nor have I added or deleted any calendars.Quote
Do this, and while it is in the open re-examine your cpu pins w/ a bight light and hd zoom or a magnifying glass.
Thanks, xmad, I'll look at th CPU again tomorrow/next day under the glass when I take the board out. I already checked them under magnification and was leaning toward a funky board, but it never hurts to re-check. Eyesight is not what it used to be, for sure (I miss DOS, if that's a clue...). Don't want to flash the BIOS if not necessary, since it runs Windows fine and everything works except that RAM.
Bernhard, I don't have CPU-Z installed on that machine and don't want to install anything else until it's working normally. I'd never seen Click-Bios before and just need to get over my initial suspicion of something new! Also learn my way around it before I change anything. I'd never encountered a board reporting a bios different than printed on it. I've never messed with manual memory settings or done more overclocking than just a little exploratory and suprisingly successful nudge - if you could point me toward a good basic explaination of all those settings, I could learn from there.
Appreciate your input very much.
Have learned a lot just reading the threads here for the last few days. This is the best forum I've ever encountered. I'll report back - some suggestions in other posts resembling my problem ended with no resolution, and that's a shame because one doesn't know if it worked or not. -
Sync phone with iCal deletes old events in iCal
Whenever I use iSync to sync my mobil phone old events in iCal are deleted. This never used to happen, I need the old events for work. Can anyone help?
I also upgraded to the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac v 1.0.6 (Build 16).
I synchronized my calendar and EVERYTHING from iCal was deleted. Fortunately, my Blackberry Calendar is intact. Despite this annoyance, this is still a major improvement over the first time I installed the desktop (sarcasm intended).
I also tried creating an event on iCal and synchronized. This new event sychronized with my Blackberry. When I open the event the Send Using entry is the same email address that I used for all my other entries on my Blackberry.
So basically, my Blackberry Events don't sync to my iCal, but my iCal events sync with my Blackberry.
<RANT> It is very baffling why RIM hasn't been able to solve these problems for the past 3 years. I'm still happier using Parallels with Microsoft Outlook (it hurts to say that) than using this unreliable product. It's things like these that prevent me from using my Mac Calendar and Address Book. The proposition value for switching to an iPhone is looking better every day.</RANT> -
ICal synch wants to delete old entries
Recently when I use BB Desktop to synch with my new MacBook, it wants to add 2, modify 482 and delete 1053. The first 2 are not a problem but I do not want to delete old iCal entries.
I've tried adjusting to synch only Future or synch between -999 and +999 days to no avail.
What work around can I use to get back to synching?
Thanks
Spyderwebb
Solved!
Go to Solution. This helped me for this problem...
On your BlackBerry, go to the Calendar, then press the Menu button, and select Options. Do you have a settings that says "Keep Appointments" set for a specified time.
If yes, you will need to change that to forever.
Once I changed that, I did an overwrite sync of the BlackBerry (I use Missing Sync). Then normal syncing worked fine without deleting old events. -

MarkusI was about to try this, but the problem was solved - by updating to ML DP3. Time Machine was able to report more specifically a UUID mismatch - which was strange as there had been no hardware changes:

If it's of any use to anyone finding this, I would say that the solution seems to have been a Mac OS reinstall - which is counter-intuitive, but if all else fails, give it a go! -
I imported a lot of old events from Palm Desktop and want to delete everything more than a year old. But ical won't let me change the default for deleting old events from "more than 30 days" which is much too short a period for me.
I am losing NEW events when I sync and think maybe the file size is too large.Jane,
Although I have not used it, but you may find http://www.busymac.com/utils/icalarchiver.htmliCal Archiver useful.

Time Machine Deletes Old Backups without warning!!
I have just lost loads of pictures and emails when my Timemachine deleted old backups. I was so happy to have an easy way to keep my iPhoto cleaned up while keeping all the photos for the future. I would load my all the photos from my camera, backup with TimeMachine and delete the "bad" unwanted photos, confident in the knowledge that these pictures are still there on my external. I looked forward to some future date when someone would write an easy piece of software to consolidate old iPhoto libraries and even go through TimeMachine and consolidate those photos too. But until that fantasy event, my pictures, even though not wanted were still there.
Not any more!!
I replaced my hard drive and reloaded my laptop from Timemachine and I think that was the event that sparked the dump.
There should be a special check box to make sure that NO backups are automatically deleted, EVER. They should be a way to make them Sacred!!
There should be a way to create a separate backup just for iPhoto because right now, there are no good ways to easily break apart or merge iPhoto libraries. At least what I was doing worked, (well.... until it didn't).
Any ideas??nerowolfe wrote:
True, TM is not a classic archival system, but until the drive is full, the difference is moot.
No, the difference isn't moot.
I still have on my TM HD every file I ever had because it's only 1/2 full.
No, you don't. Read on...
Time machine has three levels of backups:
1) hourly - deleted after 24 hours
2) daily - deleted after a week
3) weekly - deleted only when the disk is full - these are the only deletions you will be warned about
Time machine is always deleting files. Every time it backs up, it deletes files.
But the OP's real question is why he was never warned about the old backups being deleted, as TM says it will do, archival stuff notwithstanding. Apparently TM simply ignores the user's request to be warned.
No, it doesn't.
That being said, as I asked in a post not too long ago, "how many have had a warning from TM that old backups are being deleted?" as one would expect when the TM preference box, "Warn when old backups are deleted" is checked.
It appears to me to be a bug.
I ask again if anyone has gotten this warning.
Nobody answered my previous post with a yes.
Yes.
Because Time Machine continually cleans up behind itself, it tries very hard to ever delete the weekly backups. The only time I've gotten the deletion warning was when my disk was full. I think I just avoided the problem by removing my old Parallels images from Time Machine and got back an extra 70 gig or so - good for another six months.
This is not a bug. This is how Time Machine works. It is unfortunate that the original poster did not fully understand this. The fact is that Time Machine backs everything up. If you create 100 files, it backs up the folder with 100 new files. If you delete 100 files, it backs up the folder with 100 less files. Then, the next day, it deletes old backups. The only one it keeps is the last one, with 100 less files.
It is correct to say that Time Machine is not an archival system. It is a backup system. If you want to save your files forever, you need to copy them to a location that isn't under the control of any sort of automatic software. -
I have a previous generation 2TB Time Capsule shared by three of us, each with separate accounts.
I know there's not much space left on the Time Capsule and that it's therefore expected that Time Machine would make room by deleting old backups. But my account seems stuck forever on these deletions (for over 72 hours now), while the other two accounts on the Time Capsule are working just fine.
I've been through Pondini's recommendations for (a) patience and (b) finally resetting Time Machine, but on it goes.
Here is the last couple of hours of the log (filtered for this problem). The entire log for the last 72 hours is too long to post -- but the pattern is the same, with the constant deletions barely making a dent, and sometimes in fact the space available decreases.
I'd cheerfully give up on the oldest backups, but meanwhile it's been 8 days since TC has been able to complete a backup. (I have been cloning the drive daily with SuperDuper just to make sure I have a fallback until this is figured out.)
Hoping one of you can recommend a course of action.
Thanks in advance for any help...
