Please check your network configuration that is stored in Firefox.
Go to the Options > Advanced > Network > Settings ...
From here make sure the settings are optimized for the ADSL network.
This is is an add on you might find handy as well: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/net-usage-item/?src=search Net Usage Item]
You could map it with static ip, though this documentation may be for another router.

  • WRT54GL Connection drops and freezes

    Hi,
I just recently purchased WRT54GL and I've been having an issue with it. Whenever I'm downloading (both regular download and progress download on you tube for e.g.), and I'm not browsing or active with internet explorer, it drops the connection, even worse, it freezes (idle) for sometime and back in a very low speed. Sometimes it doesn't come back up until I open an IE. It causes the downloads to fail every single time! I opened the Local Area Connection and i guessed it right, it does drop and stop so very often.
I tricked it with going "forward" and "back" on my IE to browse between two websites just to keep the connection "alive" so that the download doesn't get disconnected. I checked connecting my modem directly to the computer without the router and it worked great.
I have Comcast and Vonage connection.
if someone could help, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks all, :-)

Your router needs to be Upgraded, Download the Firmware from here ,
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...Check if this works for you...

  • New 27 iMAC keeps crashing iMovie and freezing videos on YouTube & Quicktime

We just got a new Sept 2013 iMac three days ago, purchased refurbished from the Apple Store online. The whole point of the purchase was to be able to use iMovie to thoroughly edit videos for our YouTube channel, use garage band, lots of internet surfing and video watching etc. We spent the extra dollars to get what we thought was the most improved version of the iMac with all the souped up specs in order to avoid any hassle and headaches from a lack of performance. Here's what we have:
    3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
27-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1440 resolution
    8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
1TB hard drive (We have only used 80 GBs of it so far, so plenty of space left)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
    720p Camera & Mic
    OS X 10.9
We're feeling a bit duped now as this seems to have turned out to just be a big expensive piece of junk. Here are our problems:
    - Firstly, thank goodness that we had our own Logitech HD camera/mic left over from our PC because the "HD camera" built in to the iMac is worse in quality than my old blackberry curve. Grainy, lack luster, mic has sharp and distant sound, really really bad and false advertisement.
    - In the middle of using iMovie (iMac came preinstalled with the newest one, i think its 10?), it will stop responding properly or will crash and close, we wont even have any other programs running.
    - When opening Quicktime to record a new video, in the middle of a recording or while the recording window is idle, it will start glitching - flashing between live footage and a freeze frame repeatedly. The only way to stop it is to quit out Quicktime and open again and try to record quickly, or in some cases we have to completely restart the iMac, which then still randomly in the middle of a recording or idle window it will continue to flash and glitch. (You can view an example here in the last minute of one of our videos, we tried to make it work and kept the take since we were doing our outro music dance, but it totally ***** when this happens randomly during our content portion and we have to redo recording. http://youtu.be/MAJzaEShJGw?t=4m34s )
    - When watching YouTube videos, the computer takes a while to respond to a command, like if we click on a certain part of the video, it will not load it until we press the pause/play button a few times and wait. Also at the beginning of a video it will start glitching and freezing again, similar to how we explained above in the quicktime, but faster.
If you are familiar with what could be the problem or have any advice, PLEASE HELP, we are concerned that after dropping so much money within just 3 days of use, this iMac is not performing flawlessly in the areas that we most needed and want to know if these issues are common and fixable or if its a defect that would require we send this thing back immediately. We did not get apple care and would hate to have wasted money that we really dont have on a glitchy crashing huge piece of junk.
Want to mention a few other pros and cons unrelated to our issues, for those who may be considering buying one too:
    PROS:
    - The Magic mouse is really great, particularly because of the scrolling and zooming gestures. (Though sometimes i accidentaly swipe in a browser and go back to a previous page losing any information that was input on the page i was originally on, for example, i had to retype this whole apple imac inquiry because i swiped backwards by mistake and the whole form cleared! annoying, wish the horizontal swipe navigated between tabs instead of going through the page view history.)
    - When the imovie is not crashing, after watching some tutorials and making a few vids, its a really greatly improved program from the '09 version we used to use. I import and edit videos much faster now, and footage does not freeze or take time to load while im dragging and dropping, it is immediately responsive.
    - Love using the Talk to text function (like Siri) by pressing "fn" twice. Use this to write long emails and papers with ease. Would like to see a "Speak" read back option that allows for text to be selected and read back (like Siri on iPad)
    CONS:
    - The text is SO small everywhere and there is no option to exactly set text size across the whole system, only option given is to set a different resolution which lessens the quality of the screen with pixelation, and some programs give you the option to set custom sized text in their individual preferences.
    - Sometimes in both iMovie & Garageband, simple automated functionality will stop working, for example in iMove, when certain screens or images are dragged and dropped to the work area by the activity bar (i dont know what else to call it, the line that rolls across during playback or stays put when pressing spacebar) usually, that screen or image will click into place to align with the activity bar and will highlight the bar yellow to further communicate that alignment before you drop it, but after extended use in a session, that snapping into alignment when adding items stops working. Or sometimes you can drag and drop the ends of a title screen to adjust/trim the clip, but after extended time that too stops responding and does not let the cursor turn into that arrow that allows you to trim or extend, until after many frustrated clicks or a quit and restart.
    - When sharing/exporting a video from iMovie, i would recommend unchecking the add to theatre option because it significantly extends the amount of time needed to complete the action and i found out the theatre is just like a video stream of your movies to be shared on icloud for easy access from your other devices (similar to the icloud photostream connected to iPhoto). It takes the time to make the video readily availabe in various sizes on the Mac server for easy access, which means it takes forever for your video to be exported to where you actually want it. This is not something we need and is not worth the wait time. (For example, last ime we left the theatre box checked, the progress status of the video was estimated to be completed in 351 minutes, and then 20 minutes later that somehow inclreased to 385 minutes, then duddenly it was done, so i think this add to theatre option also cause the progress status updates to go berzerk.)

Given the maximum RAM that model can use is 32GB, and the earlier release of that 27" mid-2013 iMac is nearly the same in most regards, you may note the listing of this slightly older iMac 27" is here in an Apple support document...
•iMac: How to remove or install memory:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423#1
The images of where the RAM chips are located, behind a metal plate, should be similar in your iMac and the mid-2013 iMac 27" shown in images on that page. Note there are several models discussed.
You could take the computer to a certified Apple service facility (retail store, or specialist reseller) and pay them to do this, and buy the RAM from them, and you will pay for this at a retail level. If they do it, you'd want to be assured the computer did all the things you sought to cure by upgrading RAM, correctly without fault. Like run tests and stuff.... Or there's no reason to not go ahead (after confirming from Apple) that you could buy quality RAM and do this job yourself, citing the Apple page link I'd posted above.
    Contact Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
You'd have to obtain the correct RAM (as indicated in my earlier post, citing MacTracker) of suitable quality for use in a Macintosh computer, and the recommendation for a DIY is to get the kit from 'Other World Computing' OWC online at their site. You can talk to knowledgable sales staff at OWC about what you have and what you need, and to help they may ask for the product serial number.
This is OWC and they have the spec RAM required for your iMac 27" model; double-check info:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Since yours is an Apple Refurbished model it will have a different number series. Unlike those in a retail store, because Apple does that to tell what ones they refurbished; refurbs I bought online were like that.
With questions during the first three months, you can get 'support' under the initial 90-day span of ownership of the new (and certified) Apple refurbs bought online; the other part of that is 'service' for 1 year. Call a nearest retail Apple Store, to set a genius appointment; or go online, and start the process of reporting your issue, while you still have some kind of warranty on the device. They can diagnose the issues you cite and tell you if you can upgrade the RAM (as you likely can) then you can buy and install the RAM yourself and probably pay less than 1/2 the retail rate, if you get some from OWC. A diagnosis is free if the Genius looks into it, but you'd need to set an appointment & lug the iMac to their store; protected from weather/shock.
If you want to extend the complementary service to three years (less the included 90-days) and add two years of AppleCare service, that is an affordable option of about $170. For a total of three years coverage.
    {If you had a 21.5-inch iMac the RAM would require a service department visit where they use a different method to install the RAM upgrade. Those are built differently than the 27-inch iMac.}
There is a bit of detailed important information in the Apple link on how to upgrade the iMac RAM. There is a certain amount of RAM installed already and these chips would likely be removed if you get matching sets of new RAM to upgrade the capacity. And no matter what some say, there is a reason why they can be upgraded with more. Even with Mavericks OS X 10.9.x and its 'memory compression' etc, it would gladly accept all the RAM upgrade chips it could swallow. (Behind metal screen, mid-bottom iMac 27")
You may need to consider questions about applications that use system resources separate from those about whatever issues your iMac seems to exhibit. There may be some other cause of the video and iMovie symptoms, but more RAM won't hurt given the beast you bought can use 32GB and it has 8.
And if it seems too much to handle, you have 14 days from date of
purchase to take it back. Contact them ahead of then, if you do.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

The CPU keeps spiking and maxing out, thus the computer freezes up until the CPU drops back down. This is all visible from the windows task manager @ the performance setting.  The CPU keeps repeating this up and down cycle zero to max.

  • My macbook keeps turning off and freezing on start up

So like my macbook keeps either freezing on start up or it will just shut off or restart itself
When it restarts itself it will bring up the main screen then this box comes up telling me to hold down the power button and restart it
A friend said it might have something to do with the fan not working or it overheating
But I can have it off all night then turn it on in the morning and it will mess up
It will do it sometimes between 2-4 times
I don't know what is making it does this
I ran the check up things and it said that nothing was wrong?

This sounds like the same thing that has been happening to both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Some others sound like they have similar problems. This is what I posted in the Macbook Pro area regarding the same symptoms. This is discouraging. These computers are expensive and they should have the bugs worked out better than this.

I wonder if I have similar problems. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and a Macbook 13"
1st my macbook started shutting itself off unexpectedly. It got more and more frequent. I have done several fixes including: archive and install, sending it in to have a logic board replaced, downloading an updated disc utility repair, and sending it in to have a power component replaced. Now I will be sending it in for a third time and I think they will replace the Macbook machine if this repair doesn't work.
Now my Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had it for about 6 months and it was running fine until now. I ran the exact same software on my 12 G-4 powerbook without any problems. One of the computer people at work said it sounds like a power problem. It happens whether it is running AC or on battery power and doesnt seem to matter what I am doing.
I am waiting for the macbook to be fixed before I address the Macbook Pro because I dont want to have both of my computers in the shop at the same time.
Any suggestions? This seems totally unacceptable for two new expensive computers.

  • Firefox keeps "Not Responding" and freezing my computer

As of late, my Firefox browser has been freezing my entire computer. It keeps saying that it is "not responding", my mouse turns into that blue circular loading screen, I can't exit anything, I can't even open task manager, I have to take the battery out just for my computer to turn off.
I scanned everything with Norton; didn't detect anything. I even did the Norton Power Eraser, still nothing. I set Firefox to run the program as an administrator and I thought it was fixed but it wasn't.
I even update my plug-ins and for some reason, your website keeps telling me I need to update the same ones, so I can't even rely on that.
I noticed that it does happen when I'm on a Youtube page. Like when I've paused a video.
It opens fast, it browses fast, it goes to certain websites fast. It's this annoyance that has really bothered me and has considered me switching to Google Chrome.
If you don't want me to, then tell me how to fix this issue.

I am having the same problem... it seems isolated to the version I was running at the time which was V21.0.
Less than a week ago it just hung/froze my system completely for no reason..no keyboard no mouse no luck...
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Bit and runs well with no other issues.. here's what I tried...
Uninstalled Firefox completely including all personal data, caches, etc, then I downloaded a fresh copy from mozilla.org (V21.0) and installed it.
Now I have the same issue!
Chrome runs perfectly as does Internet Explorer, so does any one have any ideas as to what changed in this version that would cause such a condition to occur?

  • Airport Drops and Freezes---- Finally Fixed!

Ever since I bought my MBP in July, 2009, I have had trouble with total freezes and airport drops.
    The fixes by Apple:
    1. New hard drive, battery, keyboard, logic board
    2. Problem persisted-- new logic board
    3. Problem persisted-- heat sensor was missing the sensor part
    4. Problem persisted-- Genius said it was 3rd party software
5.Problem persisted-- local Apple certified repair shop had no idea
    6. Problem Persisted-- in the meantime I had done several erase and install. It froze up every time I installed SL
    7. Problem persisted and I took it to Apple Store last week in one last final try. After hours of testing, it froze for them. They ordered new hard drive and logic board. Then the tech noticed it freeze and dropped the internet. He checked one of the logs and saw that the airport card had lost power just before the freeze.
He replaced the airport card and it is finally fixed-- the first time since July, 2009.
So if you have freezes and airport drops, be sure to check the airport. The airport was never changed when the logic board, et.al. were replaced.

Wow! I would think replacing the airport would be the first step in this madness.

  • Outlook 2010 keeps locking up and freezing - large mailboxes

I have an attorney customer who has 3 large Outlook pst's as follows:
    main mailbox - 1.6GB
    Archive mailbox - 14GB
    another mailbox - 6GB
He keeps everything in the Inbox with thousands of items deep.In an ideal world he would like to keep all mailboxes open and accessible but when they are all open Outlook hangs constantly. I have ran scanpst on all the mailboxes and disabled all unneccessary addins but the issue persists.
He would be willing to pay for a solution if one is out there. Can you guys suggest anything where he can have access to all his email at once without Outlook freezing up?
His outlook is setup with 1 pop email account and he only accesses email on this one computer. I have tried using Xobni as well. Didn't help.

    Hi Tim ..
    Reinstall Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard
Then restart your Mac. Try Safari.
If it crashes again, uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Quit then relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info.
If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • For a few months now my ical keeps jumping back and forth.  It's very hard to use my calendar as it doesn't open on today, it may stay a few seconds and then it goes backwards to random dates and forwards.  It doesn't sit still so I can see what I have on

My iCal is driving me nuts.
It won't sit still when I am looking at my calender.  I try holding it still with one finger, two fingers and it just moves.  It jumps to random dates and I have no confidence in it any longer.   I use my calendar all the time and this just isn't good enough.
I have gone into the apple store and they said they hadn't seen that before.  It did it while I was there.  They restored the phone and it didn't make any difference.
I have turned the calendar off in settings - mail - icloud - deleted and then turned back on again.  It didn't help.
I put the Google Calendar app on in the hopes I would have a calendar that wouldn't frustrate me and it is so slow in responding, I have deleted it.
I see online that many others are having the same problem with their iCal.
It would be great to know the solution.
    Please help

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Firefox keeps hanging up and freezing. I get this message. "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing--what a mess.

No matter how many times I open and close, firefox hangs up after surfing a few pages. When I look at task master, firefox is using up hundreds of thousands of kb, causing the processor to stall at 100%. I do not have this problem when surfing with IE. I have the latest version of firefox. I never had this problem with version 5. It keeps getting worse with each "update".

See [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]
Obviously firefox should not hang after surfing a few pages. I have Firefox installed on an XP including firefox 6.0.2 and do not have problems.

  • Adobe Reader keeps on crashing and freezing my computer

I have Adobe reader 9.4, the latest version, on my computer but even after numerous reinstalls the software continues to cause problems by freezing my computer. I've thought about other problems like viruses or bugs that could be and explanation but I have run scans on my computer which have come up with nothing. My computer does not have that much software running on it and I have checked for issues with those programs but have come up with nothing and still believe Adobe Reader Is the cause.Any advice? Thank You!

Uninstall Reader 9.4 and try the latest Adobe Reader X (10.0).

  • My computer keeps glitching up and freezing. Please help!

So yesterday my computer started blinking black with white marks on it. The only way to get out of the freeze was to restart it. This kept happening but at one point it started mirroring the wallpaper when it "highlighted" areas on the screen. It wont allow me to click on anything and when my sister went on it to her user, it did nothing. Also when it glitches up it makes rectangular white noise marks at random places and flashes black with the background. Please help me!!! Also I don't know what operaing system it is.

    You have one of these.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377
And there is nothing that can be done. Apple had a Recall on them but that is long over with. It only lasted 4 years from date of purchase.
About the only thing you can do is do a search for Baking a 2008 logic board. Or find an indepentant repair shop that can do basically the same thing. But that fix will only last so long before it starts to fail again.
There is  LONG thread on it on this forum. Something like Failed Logic Board. Dating back a few years.

  • Apple pop-up keeps popping up and freezing my apps.

Pop up keeps saying I need to log on to iTunes to receive notifications but I already am. Keeps doing it over and over again and won't let me do anything.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    If necessary...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iPad device settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
