ICal looking messed up

Granted, I'm a bit new at this iCal stuff, as I got my new machine last week, but when I try to put an event on a day, the little window where the event is, where you fill in its name, time, location, etc, is in black. I can't see what the heck I'm doing. I'm running 10.5.2 Leopard (Intel version)
I've run DiskUtility and that should have fixed things. Will try zapping PRAM next

This issue has been addressed in at least nine topics without a solution: Blacked out dock icon & more (4 Aug 08), iCal Misfunctions (19 Jul 08), Get Info Background Color Problem (19 Jul 08), ICAL colors (19 Jun 08); iCal looking messed up (17 May 08), iCal Events window (22 Mar 08), Event Info Box Reversed (17 Feb 08 - archived), ical inspector screen is black... (29 Jan 08 - archived), iCal info windows are black (8 Nov 07 - archived).
The “iCal events window” thread has the most posts.
My symptoms:
- The event info window (double click on an event and the details pop up) has a black background making the entries unreadable until I click on the fields.
- iCal opens with Home calendar checked (my only calendar), but the calendar is empty until I uncheck it and recheck it and then the events show up.
- New calendars do not show until the application is relaunched. (Same with calendar deletions.)
- Icons are missing...for example, the Thumb Tack icon on the button to open and close the To Do drawer.
- Transparent, nearly in visible, iCal icon in the Dock.
I trashed all the iCal related .plists, caches, and even the program; replaced the calendar - exported and reimported it; reinstalled the iCal program using the original Leopard disk; reinstalled update 10.5.4 - both combo and single versions several times; did all the above in various sequences.
One of the 10.5.4 re-installations fixed the transparent Dock icon.
The Console log captures between 150 and 300 entries when I launch iCal - indicating that a lot of images aren't loading right - which would seem to correlate with the symptoms. (Excerpt below).
I would appreciate any ideas for a fix.
cheers,
emil

hello Simpetus, please report that issue to the theme's developer - the changes in the search interface landed in firefox 34 without the usual grace period, so they might not have had enough time to prepare & adapt.

  • Firefox 5 having encoding (utf8) problems? Twitter looks messed up...

I'm really clueless why the twitter site (among others) looks so messed up?
Does Firefox have problems with encoding and displaying utf-8 websites correctly? I already had this problem with Firefox 4 but not with older versions... I can't believe they launch a new browser version with utf-8 problems?
Am I the only one having this problem?
    Help!

Yes, I was already expecting to see something like that.
This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica font or other fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.<br />
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.<br />
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.<br />
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.

  • When importing the PSD into reflow it looks messed up

I'm importing a website PSD into reflow and compared to my original PSD it looks a mess. The header image isn't showing up, text is all over place etc, any idea why?
Also I'm new to this whole programme, once you have produced a set of responsive versions on the site what is the final outcome? Is it code to give to a developer?

  • Screen looks messed up

    Hey,
I just bought an ipod touch 32 GB first generation from somebody off of ebay used. The screen is messed up. Blotches of light and dark areas spread across the screen. It almost looks like a cloud background behind everything. It's much more noticeable when the backlight is on and when I'm in an app that has a white background. It is almost invisible in the black home screen, but you could still see a little light spilling out at the top of the screen. Please see pictures below. Did anybody ever see something like this before? Is it going to cause problems? Can it be fixed? The unit works great otherwise; however, the water damage sticker in the headphone jack has been activated.

How likely does it seem that it is water damage that messed up the screen? Do you think there is actually water in there?
It wasn't listed as water damaged. I already contacted the ebay seller and he offered a 50% refund, but since it works fine, I said I would be happy with less and took $75 off of the original $190 I paid. Bad choice?
I plan on reselling this because I wanted the 2nd generation (made a mistake when bidding). Do you think I could sell it for $115? I see ones on ebay go for $70-$80 that won't even turn on.

  • Why does iCal look different on iPad than on Macbook and iPhone?

Is there a way to get my calendar in my macbook and iPhone to have the same visual interface as the calendar on my iPad? Is there certain software I need to download? I just don't like the format of the iCal on my my computer and iPhone, and finally they have a good format but only for one of my products.

I have no answers for you on this one, but I agree. I enjoy the layout on my ipad, but it seems that iCal is falling behind in its formatting. With a new iLife out there, and OSX Lion out in the open, you'd think they could make the interface a whole lot better on MacBook if they are offering it on iPad.

  • Basic dreamweaver question: My website looks messed up in certain browsers, help please

I made what I thought was a great web design in Dreamweaver, I uploaded to a company called Hostmonster and it looked really good on my Firefox browser, however when I looked at in Explorer it was jumbled and even on my friends Firefox page on his computer it didn't even have the same fonts. If someone could give me some directions it's greatly appreciated. I need to send out resumes with a link to my website. Thanks again. My website(it's still in progress so all the links don't work) is www.lorirogersphotography.com

See if this works for you, it's a quick put together and can be cleaned up a little more.. but I'll leave that to you.
I've added an ID for the navtable and applied the ID to the table.  Styled the menu links using your previous Style 14 - so you now can see that I've removed all the <span> </span> tags and the code is a little cleaner for their removal  :-)  I'll leave the header image background fix to you.  There is also a style for the image on the right, so that it has some white space between the black cell as well... play around with that until you get the exact padding your require.  All other styles can be edited as needed.

  • Firefox Looks Messed Up

So I just bought a new computer, installed Windows 8 then installed Firefox. Upon loading it, this happens: http://imgur.com/BndEiGV
I tried uninstalling then reinstalling and it didn't make any difference. I even tried to redownload it but still nothing. I just noticed that Firefox is not the only one affected, including some websites. Any feedback is appreciated :)

    Hi there,
It's better for the computer to wait so Windows Update does the thing. That should help, if it doesn't, you can download the driver manually, restart your computer and everything should look normal.
    Thanks,
    Borian

  • Will iCal look like the OS7 Calendar for icloud?

  • Website looks messed up in internet explorer....

I created a website for my volunteer fire company with Dreamweaver 8 on my Mac.  The site looked fine when I reviewed it with Firefox and Safari so I uploaded it.  Then I started to get phone calls that it was fouled up looking.  When others looked at it using Internet Explorer on there PC's the background images in the tables became offset and in some cases started to repeat.  Is there an issue between Mac and internet Explorer or between Dreamweaver 8 and Internet Explorer.  The site is www.goodwillhose.com if you want to take a look.  Please, any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible to "no-repeat" the background image in a table?
Yes, with CSS or inline CSS styling like so:
    <table style="width: 1000px; border: 2px solid silver; background: red url(your-image.png) no-repeat top center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5">
    <tr>
    <td> </td>
    <td> </td>
    <td> </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
Your code is invalid, owing to your use of deprecated table height values and HTML syntax with an XHTML document type.
Use the on-line code validation tool here:
    HTML Validator - http://validator.w3.org
You might want to study this tutorial.  It was written with DW8 in mind, but the basics are still the same.

If your site visitors use pre-IE7 browsers, your transparent PNG images have a light blue cast to them. Do a Google search for IE PNG Fix.

  • Theme looks messed up

    Hello,
I am pretty new to Dreamweaver, so bear with me, please :)
I am creating a website, which I want to base on this theme:
    http://andreasviklund.com/files/andreas04.zip
The theme looks great in IE and FF.
I need to change the theme a little bit, to move things
around, twist and tweak it lightly, so I opened index.html file
with it, and it looks garbled! The boxes are one on top of another,
can't seem some of the content, etc.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you for your help,
    - Eli Baskin.

It does support CSS. But not so well.

  • ICloud calendar (iCal) looks better than the one in MBP

    Hi,
My calendar in MBP looks different from my calendar when viewed thru
    https://www.icloud.com/#calendar
The iCloud one has a timeline under the calendar etc. Can I make my "MBP calendar a look alike?
    Please advice,
    pyry

No, unfortunately there is no way to do that.

  • ICal reminders messed up

I use iCal reminders for upcoming bills and have the reminder set to remind me three days before the bill is due. I will often have the bill repeat in 1 day using the arrow in the iCal alarm window. The problem is that the next time the reminder comes up, the date of the event will be wrong. For example, I have a bill that is due on Friday, September 7, 2007. This alarm pops up on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 as it should. I request this alarm to repeat in 1 day. On the following day, the alarm pops up with a due date of Saturday July 7, 2007. If I request this alarm to repeat, it will actually reset the alarm notification for the event in the previous month. There is no consistency, with some repeating events going reverting by many years. This all began after upgrading to 10.4 from 10.3. I have already tried deleting and recreating all calendars to no avail. Help, please.

  • ICal events window

The background on the events window is black, making editing quite difficult. Where do you select preferences for this?

This issue has been addressed in at least nine topics without a solution: Blacked out dock icon & more (4 Aug 08), iCal Misfunctions (19 Jul 08), Get Info Background Color Problem (19 Jul 08), ICAL colors (19 Jun 08); iCal looking messed up (17 May 08), iCal Events window (22 Mar 08), Event Info Box Reversed (17 Feb 08 - archived), ical inspector screen is black... (29 Jan 08 - archived), iCal info windows are black (8 Nov 07 - archived).
This thread has the most posts.
I would appreciate any ideas for a fix.
    cheers,
    emil
