Ical lost calendars with a twist

I've followed some of the threads about iCal missing calendars and have tried the common solution of deleting the iCal.plist in preferences and also moving the contents of the iCal applications folder in library. Not sure if there is a specific order to this though.
My situation arose just after I interrupted a decrypt process for filevault (I was running out of time before getting on a plane). Anyway, after this, mail launched and then terminated many times and eventually started in safe mode so I could recover. The XP.hdd file for parallels looks like it was corrupted and won't start (so I'm going to have to reinstall all windows stuff when I get home), AND iCal lost all its calendars (could be due to a corrupt .ics file.
None of the currently published solutions have led to me recovering my calendars. I have also my calendar on my cell phone which I sync using iSync. There looks like there is activity going on (e.g records being updated etc.) but no appointments appear back in the calendar. This is getting a tad frustrating and as yet no news from apple.
Any suggestions before I go down the route of manually recreating my electronic diary?

Fixed with a device reset. Can't remember which post suggested this, but thanks for whoever suggested it.

How can I share my ical work calendar with my coworkers that are using google calendar?

You can only do this by syncing your calendar to an external server - MobileMe is designed for this but if you don't already have a MobileMe account you can't start one now.
If you do have a MobileMe account the method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/sharedcalendar.html#publicshare
If you don't, you could sync to Google Calendar (Google accounts are free) or wait for iCloud which should be out in a couple of months and will probably provide this sort of facility.
You might like to consider BusyCal which is like iCal Pro - similar to iCal but with extra facilities. It can sync calendars on a Lan and also between accounts on the same machine (you have to have fast user switching enabled).
There is a free trial available on their website: it's slightly cheaper from the Mac App Store. (I have no connection with this company).

  • Create iCal-iCloud calendar with applescript

I am trying trying to create a new calendar with Applescript in my iCloud account.  I've tried using the following:
    tell application "iCal"
      make new calendar with properties {title:item i of NewCalendars}
                        end tell
but it creates it On My Mac.  I've tried searching for a way to do this but can't find anything.

That seems to be possible with GUI Scripting:
    set theTitle to "New calendar"
    tell application "Calendar" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Calendar"
tell menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
click menu item "iCloud" of menu 1 of menu item "New Calendar " of menu 1
-- (don't remove the space at the end of "New Calendar ")
        end tell
        keystroke theTitle & return
    end tell
Before running the script, don't forget to enable access for assistive devices in the Accessibility System Preference pane.

  • Ical subscribed calendar with Iphone?

I have a client that uses Ical for multiple calendars. All are his, except for one, which he subscribes to.
That one calendar is not listed on his Iphone. It is the only one missing.
Is this normal or is there a way to turn on this functionality?

This is how I managed to get a workround.
Note my wife does not have a Mac, she only has a PC and uses her Iphone Calendar to share her appointments with me:
Firstly I Set up a new user on my Mac for my wife, I then created her ICal account and set it to publish to the net and for it to sync with MobileMe. You can email to subscribed Calendar link to your own account and subscribe from the message
Then go to this link and follow what they tell you to.
    http://www.jacksmac.com/JacksMac/Jacks_Mac_Blog/Entries/2008/8/21_iPhones_Calendar_Can_Show_iCalSubscriptions.html
Once completed ICal checks the published Calendar and copies it to a local folder. You need to leave your Mac on for this to work.
In addition to this I set up fast user switching which really helps this process. I did this by:
System Preferences > Accounts > Login option (Bottom LHS of the screen) > Check the box saying Enable Fast user Switching.
You will then see your login name appear on the top RHS of your screen next to spotlight, switch your user to the second profile, Launch ICal and set Mobile Me to sync and leave Ical open.
Once you have done this switch back to your main profile and open ICal in the background, all Calendars should then sync through to your iphone and be updated every 15 minutes.
NOTE IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK PROPERLY, YOU NEED TO LEAVE YOUR MAC SWITCHED ON AND LEAVE ICAL RUNNING IN BOTH PROFILES.

  • Sharing icloud calendars with non icloud users

Anyone have a suggestion on how to share my ical icloud calendars with non-icloud users?
Can't seem to share with MobileMe - and Tungle.com doesn't support it either. What about google calendars? Would that be a good work around or end up duplicating entries somehow if they're all synced.
    Please advise.

Ok Apple... I was sooooo excited about moving my whole team to iCloud, I've already got us setup and our upcoming events are being entered as I write. Then.... I discovered.... The fatal flaw....
While most of my people are apple users, I still have an employee that isn't and isn't ever going to be. No big deal right, they should just get read only access while the "in crowd" gets the cool toys. Except....
See screenshot below, I can EITHER publish read-only to a url OR share through iCloud... NOT BOTH. So in order for my one non-apple employee to see the calender, I have to give up the ability for all the others to make changes... making this calendar service just as ineffective as the one I was trying to replace!
This would be such an easy thing to fix, but I suspect it was a conscious decision to incentivize more people to switch to all apple. Yet I just can't get everybody to do that, I can't force an employee to buy an iPhone and I sure ain't gonna pay for it. So I'm stuck. Next stop... Google Calendar.

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • Ical: print calendar week starts with tuesday

Every time I try to print my Calendar (iCal) calendars, they print with Tuesday (torek in Slovenian) as the first day of the week (in either Month or Week version). Always. I tried everything — turning some calendars on and off, and it doesn't help. I have Monday set as the first day of the week and the preview in Calendar (iCal) is working correctly, the problem is just with printing. Basically, I just can't print the normal week or month calendar with Mondays as the first days of the weeks (Monday = Ponedeljek).
Is this bug only present in Slovenian version or elsewhere too? Can I fix it somehow?
The Calendar is working fine, pon (Monday is the first day of the week:
When trying to print it, first day is switched to torek (Tuesday) — here in month view:
The same problem with the week view:

Changing the 1st day of the week to Sunday usually corrects this bug.

  • How can i sync a CalDav google calendar with my local calendar in iCal?

    Hi,
I have a google calendar as CalDav-account in my iCal. It works perfect. Now i'd like to sync the google calendar with my local calendar, without copy/paste for every date. Ist there any possibility?

I just discovered that when you set up CalDAV delegate accounts in iCal, you are really moving google calendars into iCal, not the other way around. So for everything to sync up you must enter events in the delegate calendars in iCal, not in your original iCal calendars.

  • ICal and subscribed calendars with MobileMe using AppleScript

I am having the same problem as many of you; I have a MobileMe account which does not sync the calendars I have in iCal that are subscriptions. I found this great script online which I'll post below. I don't know anything about AppleScript so I'm just copy-pasting. I want it to work, but I'm getting the error "The variable theOldEvent is not defined." right around the line "if similar_found is true then set theOldSummary to the summary of theOldEvent" kinda near the middle. Like I said, I don't know anything about AppleScript. So my question is; how can I fix this error and/or is there some better way of using AppleScript/Automator to do this same thing? Thanks!

  • Printing iCal calendars with a gutter

Is this possible? Am I dense? All I want to do is print my weekly view calendar with a gutter for 3 hole punching. The default printing prints all the way to the very edge of the sheet with no apparent way to edit it. Looks really gross printed that way.
    Any ideas or work-arounds?

This can't be created in iCal, but it CAN be created it in another program and then used in iCal.
    Here's how
    1) Quit iCal.
    2) In Safari (or Pages, or some other Apple app) choose File:Print:Paper Size.
    3) Go to Manage Custom Sizes
    4) Click on the Plus symbol to create a custom size. It should default to 8.5 x 11
    5) Give this a name by double clicking on "Untitled" (eg "Calendar")
    6) Set the left margin to .5 or 1.0 or 1.25 (or whatever you want).
    7) Click OK
    8) Open iCal
    9) Select File:Print
10 Under "Paper;" select "Calendar", or whatever you named your new paper size
    11) Carry on
    Hope this helps.

  • TS2481 How do I sync google calendar with Ipad 2 thru the cloud. Used to work, but now I've lost it. Maybe a setting?

What setting do I use on my Ipad 2 and Iphone 3GS to enable google calendar to sync thru Icloud between my 2 devices? Thank you!

    Hey JonC84
Thanks for the question. You can definitely sync your new iPod touch with the local calendar on your computer (you won't need to setup an account like iCloud). The following article may help you achieve this:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
    Calendars
To sync calendars with your computer, choose "Sync Calendars" or "Sync iCal Calendars."
    - When syncing calendars, you can sync all calendars or sync specific calendars.
    - You can limit the data that is synced to only events that have occurred in the last 30 days. The option can be changed to any number of days.

  • How do I sync iPod calendar with iCal?

    Hello everyone,
I have just been bought a new iPod touch as a birthday present.  Since I have never had a device that operates like a smart phone before (I know it's not exactly a smart phone), I thought I would begin to use it as a diary, note-taker etc.  I have always done these things on paper, but now I think it would be a good idea to have them synchronized between iPod and computer.
My laptop is running Snow Leopard, which I believe is too old to exploit iCloud.  So I have been trying to find out the "old fashioned" way of syncronizing an iPod and iCal on my laptop.  I thought it would do it automatically during the usual iTunes sync, but apparently not.  And I've found surprisingly little information on the web.
What I have done so far is try to set up an account on iCal.  I clicked to add a new account, selected "Automatic" for account type, put my usual Gmail address in the e-mail address bar, and my Gmail password in the password bar.  Then clicked create.
But as soon as I now try to enter anything in the calender, an error message comes up (I have redacted the event name and my Gmail username):
The server responded with an error.
Access to “[EVENT NAME]” in “[MY GMAIL USERNAME]@googlemail.com” in account “[MY GMAIL USERNAME]@gmail.com” is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    “HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
    to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
Seems as though some mismatch between "gmail" and "googlemail" is the problem?
Anyway, I'm not even sure I want to start using Google calendar – that was just what iCal automatically gave me.  Is there not an Apple equivalent (not iCloud) that would make things more compatible?
Since I'm starting from scratch, I thought this would be easy, but no such luck!
    Thanks for any help!
    Jon

  • How do I share iCal 5.0 calendars with PC's...

Prior to Lion, PC XP users in my office could subscribe to my iCal calendars. As I understand it, in Lion, I can Share calendars, but do my PC users need to have an iCloud account? And if so, is XP even compatible with iCloud? And if not, what do I do?

I'm afraid you can't do this in Leopard. I quote:
'Features of the MobileMe Calendar that are not available with Mac OS X Leopard:

  • Force Outlook 2011 to use iCal default calendar to synchronize with google

    Here is a problem.
My default calendar program is Outlook 2011.
I have an iCal synchronizing with my google calendar and outlook to sync with iCal via Sync Services - so in theory my outlook calendar should be synchronized with Google.
I setup in iCal's preferences my google calendar as default (because iCal synchronizing only Google calendar not the other calendars on my mac) so at this stage, if I use iCal to add new remainder/appointment it is store by iCal in default calendar (which I setup to be my google calendar) and is synchronizing with goggle calendar right away.
Synchronizing between iCal and google works fine, however there is a problem with outlook sync with iCal, because Outlook synchronizing all items in iCal with “no category” calendar (which seems to be default and although I have changed in preferences of iCal default calendar to be the google one). Even if I delete all “on my mac” calendars - outlook creates always new one called “no category”, when I try to add new appointment with Outlook.
So there is question, how to force Outlook (or maybe syncservice) to use my google calendar in iCal as default. I think once it be possible, synchronizing between Outlook and my google calendar (via Sync Services and iCal) works great.
Anyone knows how to manage it?
    My system:
    Outlook is 14.1.4 version
    MacOs X Lion 10.7.3
    iCal 5.0.2

    Hi Maxulus,
Did you ever find a soloution to this, as we have the same problem?
