ICal, Mail and Finder times all stuck since upgrade!  System clock O.K.

Very strange problem:
All of my calendar event times (in iCal), email message receipt times (in Mail), and file modification/creation times (in Finder) are listed as some time between 7:00-7:59 AM or PM, regardless of time of day! My system clock (as it appears in the menu bar) is fine!
More details:
iCal: the events still look like they're at the right times, i.e. the blocks are in the right places, with the correct spacing, etc etc, they are just labeled with times between 7:00-7:59 AM/PM. Similarly, alarms go off at the correct time. Also, in the day or week listing, the column on the left which is supposed to show times instead just says "Sat" for all times, except "Noon" (at noon).
This is continuous since upgrading to snow leopard a couple weeks ago. Seemingly no other problems besides this.
I don't know much about the OS, but I don't understand how the system clock (in the menu bar) could be fine, but every other sign of time-keeping is completely off. I just its just something about the labeling of times, instead of the actual record of them?!
I have screen shots of the problems if that might help clarify (apparently I can't attach them however).
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Any solutions to your problems?
Just found my Mom has the same 'time stuck' problem (iMac OS X 10.6.7) Finder 'Date Modified' is stuck at 2/14/2011. Also, the Time/Date displays correctly on the Menu bar but when click on it, the drop down menu shows a gray out 2/14/2011, etc.
Much appreciated of any help. Thx.

  • Yosemite Mail and Finder

    Hi
    Anyone experiencing one of those?
    1) Mail does do not search mails, smart folders don't work, flagged messages don't show up when filter them.
    2) Finder once a short while reset window size on Home folder.
    Using nMP 6c base model.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Search and Finder are all kinds of screwed up.  Finder is remembering settings it shouldn't (it ALWAYS opens a new window using the last used folder, overriding the Preferences) and doesn't remember settings it should (folder view options).
Search doesn't work reliably in any application other than Spotlight.  Finding system or hidden files is impossible without a 3rd party app...

  • HT4367 Rented a movie but it won't download. Rented it again and was told to go to settings and download. Should I be renting from iCloud and not my iMac? Never happened before and been renting all week since Thanksgiving!

Apple TV 2 with rebooting the iPhone 7.04 and iMac running Mavericks and rebooting TV etc today. Selected to rent a movie but it started to download and we lost it. Tried to rent again and was told it wasn't downloaded. Went to settings and only get spinning circle when I try to download the rental. Apple TV up to date and been renting all week since Thankgiving. Only 4.99 but making me nuts. Help anyone??

Dear Colbabomb; thankyou for your links.
So far, I looked at your first solution, Revo Uninstaller and it gives you a 30 free trial. Ergo, it will eventually cost money so I'm leery of using those kinds of programs in general, meaning most "free trials" have unwanted strings attached and often are big probs to get rid of later. Perhaps you can assure me that it is easy and very user friendly, before I proceed. And I already ran malwarebytes and it found nothing tho the program still can't be uninstalled. I downloaded Adw Cleaner and during the install, my Norton's security popped up and warned that there were (low risk) threats with two of their "other offers" and i hadn't even actually clicked to agree either of them. Nonetheless, Norton warned me against the "lyrics finder" and "deal ply." In fact, there was a box already with an x in it, saying that you are accepting deal ply if you x on "next." Well, except I unchecked that box before clicking on next, yet when it went to fully install, it still showed that it was adding itself; so, just before the install was 100% completed, I had to abort the whole thing. I really do hope your other suggestions are programs that you personally know that they don't try and trick you. But right now, I would not suggest Adw Cleaner to anyone. I even read the fine print about what they will try and install and how to decline and it still tried sticking stuff on that i believed I had declined. Anyways, i have to leave now, shall pick up later this evening, if my pc is still functioning.

  • Timer misbehaves if user changes system clock

Can I write a java 'stopwatch' application that records the time between two events, even if the user changes the system clock in between?

I have implemented a short test program because I discovered that different JVMs (Windows <-> Linux) behaved different.
e.g.: if you change the system clock the nanotimer is stable in Windows but not in Linux. (stable means that the nanotime reports the correct elapsed time no matter if the system clock has changed).
Use the test program to check which version is reliable for you OS and your JVM.

  • Switching from Entourage to ical, mail, and address book- duplications?

I am tired of the slowness of Entourage and was thinking of switching to all of the native mac programs. Any suggestions or comments on whether this is a good idea or not?
Also, will all of my information be duplicated. I have about 3 gigs of information and I don't want to needlessly store it if I don't need to. Can I get some advice on where to find and extract that information from the entourage program so I am not eating up disc space unnecessarily.
    Thank you.

Three weeks ago I switched from Entourage and Palm Desktop to Apple mail, address book and ical. It was a tad painful because I ended up with a lot of duplicates as I had email and some contact info in Entourage and several thousand contacts in Palm Desktop.
However after a couple of solid nights sorting out the duplicates all the contact info for each person is now in one place.
Word of warning though when you are checking address book entries make sure you keep backing up the changes (File - Backup address book) because for some inexplicable reason a couple of times all the entries in address book vanished.
Also the check for duplicates option in address book might be great for some but for me it created contacts that had their addresses and phone numbers duplicated several times.
After initial teething problems (getting used to the different programs) I am now pretty happy with the changeover. I am ecstatic to not be seeing the constant Entourage error message of 'your database is damaged and needs to be rebuilt' which entourage kept throwing at me (even after repeated rebuilds).
I have a Palm Treo and Address Book and iCal sync fine with that as well (after installing the conduit).
You'll also find in mail that you can't do as much snazzy formatting as you could with Entourage (ie numbered lists and bullet points) but hopefully Apple will address that in later updates. In the meantime if I'm desperate for formatting I write the email in rtf and paste it across complete with bluet points.
Sorry to drone on but wanted to give you some moral support.
Oh by the way the entourage data is stored in Home folder - Documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities - main identity - database (almost need a compass and flashlight to find it). To be on the safe side burn it to a dvd just in case and then trash it and all it's little friends (rules, lists, signatures and the other main identity folders.
    Good luck

  • When is Draft folder Sent mail and when is it STUCK mail?

i am having problems with outgoing mail and adding to this i am having problems figuring out what has in fact been sent!
obviously if i have mail in a SENT folder it has presumably been sent and arrived.
however, if i have mail in a DRAFT folder does this mean it specifically has not been sent? i mean, i oftentimes find /partial/ drafts in my DRAFT folder and i am wondering if i need to look at the draft email to see if it is completed or partially (god only knows how reliable this will be) with the assumption that if it is PARTIALLY COMPLETED there may in fact be a completed version of it in the SENT folder? alternatively, do i have to somehow search the SENT folder to see if the email is there to see that it is not in fact stuck in the draft folder?
i just ran into FOUR emails that do not appear to have been sent to the person that i was sending to but since i think i hit SEND on all of them i cannot 1. figure out why they were in the DRAFT FOLDER but more importantly i 2. CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHICH MAIL IN THE DRAFT FOLDER IS BASICALLY stuck in the OUTBOX. and since there does not appear to be an outbox in Mail on my macs (as there is in Mail on my iPhone or in Sparrow on my iPhone iu basically have to ask a byzantine question like this to figure out an absolutely mission critical issue as to whether important business mail is basically stuck in mail on my mac and WHY i don't know about this and cannot figure it out either.
    bueller, bueller, bueller....

I know there is an issue in Mavericks Mail with messages being saved to Drafts that were actually sent, but am not sure if this also affects Mountain Lion Mail.
What is happening as you compose your message, Mail is saving the current version in Drafts. It's supposed to remove the Draft message after sending but in Mavericks Mail this is currently not working as expected. The workaround is to save your Drafts for IMAP accounts to the "On My Mac" Drafts Folder.
If you put Mail in offline mode then try to send you should see your Outbox.
Personally, I know I often start a message then before I complete I get a call and forget about the message only to find it later in the day hiding behind my Mail window.
You can eliminate Mail by testing in Postbox and MailMate. Both have demos.
    http://www.postbox-inc.com/  $9.95
    http://freron.com  $49.99
Setup in MailMate is super easy since it imports your account info from Mail. MailMate supports IMAP only.
Postbox has a nice interface and includes features like adding DropBox links in a message.

  • Connecting my iPod gets my iTunes and Finder to get stuck! Any suggestions?

Hi, ya all... I saw there are some similar threads but with no useful answers, so I'll start a new one.
A while ago, after several weeks of flawless performance, my iPod classic (120 GB) has begun giving me problems. Although I'm not sure it's it... it may be iTunes, I dunno...
You see, as soon as I connect it to my Powerbook to sync it, iTunes does start, but quickly gets to the "coloured spinning wheel", as does the Finder!
Needless to say I can't do anything about it. I can't wipe my iPod clean and start all over (since it's not recognized at all) and I can't update its software whatsoever (even if there's no need to do it, since my last update was roughly a month ago).
The iPod itself displays the "connected" screen, as everything was OK, but on the computer it's not connected at all (since both iTunes and the Finder are stuck).
Then, when I forcefully unplug the device, the computer says that I should have done it in the proper way! *IS IT KIDDING?!?!? IF IT ONLY LET ME DO THAT, I WOULD!!!! (THAT F£#%ING PIECE OF JUNK!)*
Anyway... I seem to be stuck in a rut, since the very act of connecting my iPod to the Mac seems to make it go nuts.
I already re-downloaded iTunes to the last available version, and I already did the "press 'menu' and the center button" trick on the iPod.
    Now what?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Alex

Well... go figure... I tried to connect it once more, just for the sake of trying once more... and after a loooooong while the problem seemed to fix itself.
    Really...
    *_GO FIGURE!_*
Still I want to ask you if that thing ever happened to you and, if so, how did you manage to resolve it.
    Thanks again

  • Scrolling in Mail and Finder not working reliably

In Mavericks on my 2009 iMac, using a Magic Mouse to scroll by gesture stops working in Finder and Mail.
The only way to get it to work again is to either restart the finder, or quit and restart Mail.
    Anyone else finding this issue?
    Bob

I have this issue regularly inside: Mail.app, Preview.app and Finder.app - It occurs independently of each app. (E.g. one may still allow scrolling while another is "frozen".)
Additionally Preview.app does not snap to pages correctly as per 10.8
The immediate work around is to manually click on the scroll handle and move it, this seems to restore the functionality. Additionally, sometimes a subtle visual glitch is present, with the scroll handle being moved slightly to the right. (As if it's stuck in this position.)

    Hello there, Ruby_01.
Being able to to send and receive email is definitely an important feature of the iPhone.  The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
    Particularly:
If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
    Restart the iOS device.
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage to ensure that the device has Internet access. If you're unable to load a webpage, try the Wi-Fi assistant.
    Try an alternative Internet connection.
If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi:  TapSettings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
If you're still unable to send or receive email, contact your email provider and verify the account settings are correct. You will need to gather this information (PDF).
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Can't access Time Machine files since upgrading to Mavericks

I have searched the community and found that people have experienced issues backing up to Time Machine since upgrading to Mavericks, but my problem appears slightly different from the ones I've found.  I can see that my Time Machine is actually backing up since the upgrade as it was before the upgrade.  The issue I'm having is that I can't access the backed-up files in any way.
When I try to open time machine it launches the "space view" with all of the historical tabs lined up for me to scroll through, but imediately closes that window and gives the error message: "Can't connect to a current Time Machine backup disc".  It's so weird, because it says that there have been backups completed since the upgrade (most recently this morning).  If it wasn't writing to the disc, it would have showed me an error of some sort.
What I am, specifically, trying to accomplish is that I need to restore some iTunes playlists that I somehow managed to delete this past weekend.  I figured that I would easily be able to access the library file that contains the playlists from Saturday morning, when I KNOW that playlist was still there, and just restore it.  Now that I am seeing that I can't access any of my time machine files, I'm realizing that I have an even bigger problem, and that all of my files are, essentially, going without backup at this time (assuming I can't access the files that have already been backing up).
If anyone has some insight as to how I can fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi John, (The above was for your attention) I'm 72 and must've hit the wrong button!!!
I followed your instructions to the letter, but sadly, no success...all my backups are showing on the TM external HD, but I cannot access them after instsalling 'Mavericks'
I spent the entire day on and off the phone with Applecare (they are very nice, and I'm sure they know most of the stuff needed; but not this problem. They are phoning back tomorrow as the senior chap was not available.
I love my apple products, and like you, have been using their gear for well over 25 years...not studying the things, but using them all the way through.
My present Mac,  a 24" iMac is nearly 7 years old, bought on December 11th 2007, and this is the first time I have had a significant problem, and never a virus..got bless em!. I bet there are not many Windows users around who can say the same!
However, if I cannot access my backups, I'm a bit lost, as all my accumulated stuff is there!
I guess the worst case scenario is that I revert to OS X 10.7.5, and wait 'til the bugs are ironed out in Mavericks....Ho Hum

  • Spotlight and finder not working after Yosemite upgrade

    Hi,
    I just upgrade to 10.10.1 from 10.8 on a Mid 2012 Retina macbook pro, 2.7Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, 750GB SSD drive.
Since upgrading spotlight and finder have stopped working.  When I first upgraded I noticed it worked very briefly and found some of my applications, but now nothing.  The only thing it does is find the definition of the word I am searching for,
    I have
gone in to sys pref > spotlight added and remove all folders and rebooted the machine
gone in to sys pref > spotlight > privacy tab and ensured no folders are in that pane
gone in to sys pref > spotlight > privacy tab and added "documents folder" closed sys prefs rebooted and then removed "documents" folder to try and trigger a re index
gone to terminal and typed "sudo mdutil -E /" which should erase and rebuild the index but i get the error back "Error: Index is already changing state.  Please try again in a moment"
gone to terminal and typed "sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist" and then typed "sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist"
go to disk utility and verified my disk which comes back as showing no errors
logged in as another user but spotlight and finder still not working
Any other ideas my laptop is useless for work if I can't find anything,
    Thanks

unfortunately I this is still not working, thanks for the link Eric i tried those options, but still the problem remains.
I can clear the cache and re index my mac, and while the system is re indexing spotlight works and I can find material during the reindex.  This is obviously limited to the files that have been indexed at the point of using spotlight.
Once indexing has finished if I go to spotlight and try to search for anything, there are no results only the dictionary appears.
At the moment I have to delete the index cache every morning to trigger a re index so I can work, this is terrible and the worst upgrade experience I have had with any OS mac or windows
