ICal Misbehaving - deleted events reappear and editing buggy

My iCal is not behaving properly—every time I try to delete an event it
re-appears a moment later and every time I try to edit an event it makes the
change, but leaves a duplicate of the original.

I tried looking for a downloadable version (I am currently using version 4.0.4) to re-install it, but I cannot find a version that will install.
iCal seems to work fine in other accounts, restarting / logging off and returning to my account doesn't help.

Deleted Events Reappear

Hey Y'all- So I noticed when I delete a calendar event or change the status of a task, and close Ical, when I reopen ical, the event reappears and the status of the task reverts. Additionally, other perferences also revert, like show the birthdays. I have deleted the preferences and that does not work. Any thoughts?

What for a live event capture and edition ?

Hi there,
What software is best for a live event capture and edition ? (for an instant public feedback) a one with the ability to be controlled by a 2-octave midi keyboard.
Can FCP do that ? even partly ?
The idea is to be able to do the same then tv shows (live cuts and effect layers)

FCP is a professional non-linear editing application ... not a live event playback device.
If you need a very fast turnaround editing facility you can look at FCP coupled with something like Picture Ready from Gallery, you can download a demo to test
if you're looking at doing a 2 camera live cut/switch then you can consider a dual decklink I/O solution and On-Air 2.0

HT2513 iCal string of events repeat and end on a given date?

Is there a way to have any given string of events repeat and end on a given date?
Example, I have a different training regiment for each day leading up to an event/date and then will have the same training regiment again leading up to another event. I want each day's training regiment to show up as an event per day... but don't want to have to post each days repeat string of training prior to each event... and they don't nessecarily repeat monlthy or regularly... I want to set an end date and all the training fill in from that date backwards. Is this possible??

Does this work any better? New-jobtrigger requires a datetime object.

ICal automatically deletes event I just added

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion software. Now, whenever I add a new event to my iCal, it appears for a moment and then deletes itself. I have several different color calendars for different subjects. Some calendars and their events stay, but for some reason, certain events will not stay in my iCal. Can someone help me with this?

I have this same problem but it happens on all of y devices, I have an iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iMac.
When I add events on to the calendar they disappear and sometimes when I get on my iMac hours later they've reappeared but they don't always reappear.
It's really frustrating!!!

Ical - automatically deletes events

by august 06 all the previous events have been deleted w/out warning except the ones I got from shared mac-users. now all the anual events (birthdays etc.) have been deleted w/out warning. any idea how to solve the problem?

I'm not sure if this is what is happening, but I thought my events were all gone too. Then I "unchecked" the various calendars that I have listed on the left...then "checked" them again...and wow, everything came back!!!
The problem now is that when I switch months, I need to repeat this process of "unchecking" and then "checking" the calendars to get all my events listed.

When I try to make an event afterwards (for example today tried to make an event for 7th of November), iCal first makes it and then after few seconds deletes it instantly. Is there a way to make an event afterwards?

You have messed up your iPad by installing an unofficial iOS release only available to developers.
If you are not a developer, then you should not have installed that iOS on your iPad in the first place.
Ask the people who sold you that unofficial iOS to help you.
This forum is definitely the wrong place to find help for your particular problem!

Deleted Items Reappearing in iCal

I am trying to delete items from iCal but they keep reappearing after a few minutes. I'm not syncing to an iPhone, iPod, etc, so I can't figure out why this keeps happening. For example, I am looking at my April calendar, I delete items that I no longer want on the calendar, they appear to be deleted, and then 2 to 5 minutes later they all reappear. If this has something to do with syncing with .mac I can't figure out what. I've tried turing syncing with .mac both on and off to see if that makes a difference and it doesn't appear to. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I had all sorts of weird things happening in iCal this morning: Deleted events reappeared, edited events were accompanied by an empty ghost event that had the default title "New Event", birthday entries were duplicated, etc.
I tried various things and finally what restored everything back to normal so far (fingers crossed), was the removal of a Microsoft Outlook Exchange meeting invite I had recently received in Mac OS X Mail and accepted which then popped into iCal. I deleted the event, Mail sent an automatic Decline email (which I had to manually reply to saying that I am going to the event nonetheless) and now everything seems fine again.
I think there are some significant flaws in the way Microsoft Exchange Calendar events and iCal work together.

HELP! iCal is deleting events, seemingly at random. It is also deleting everything more than a month old. Since I have no other record of my calendar, this is a disaster.
This has nothing to do with icloud, as my Mac is showing the identical calendar with identically missing items. Nor have I added or deleted any calendars.

Thanks, xmad, I'll look at th CPU again tomorrow/next day under the glass when I take the board out. I already checked them under magnification and was leaning toward a funky board, but it never hurts to re-check. Eyesight is not what it used to be, for sure (I miss DOS, if that's a clue...). Don't want to flash the BIOS if not necessary, since it runs Windows fine and everything works except that RAM.
Bernhard, I don't have CPU-Z installed on that machine and don't want to install anything else until it's working normally. I'd never seen Click-Bios before and just need to get over my initial suspicion of something new! Also learn my way around it before I change anything. I'd never encountered a board reporting a bios different than printed on it. I've never messed with manual memory settings or done more overclocking than just a little exploratory and suprisingly successful nudge - if you could point me toward a good basic explaination of all those settings, I could learn from there.

Have learned a lot just reading the threads here for the last few days. This is the best forum I've ever encountered. I'll report back - some suggestions in other posts resembling my problem ended with no resolution, and that's a shame because one doesn't know if it worked or not.

iCal is deleting events off our business calendar. Everything before 60 days ago has been wiped
1) Is there anything that can be done to retrieve?
2) Is there anything that can be done to ensure this stops?
Please note:
- All computers and devices that sync with these calendars have been checked and are NOT set to delete past events - including all iCal calendars and Blackberry settings.

To respond to redsteven1, everything on iCal and Blackberry preferences are set to keep events forever. This was the first thing I checked. Also, I checked preferences on my mobile me account and those settings are the same. Technically, and on the face of it, there should be no reason why any old events would delete. Clearly there is some kind of bug in the software or syncing process. There are no settings on iSync that should affect this either. I checked that too. At first I thought this may just be a Blackberry problem but from my research on these and other forums it appears that the problem isn't limited to Blackberry users.

ICal 4.0 and Snow Leopard: can't add / edit / delete events + workaround

iCal 4.0 under 10.6.1, any changes I made in iCal was reversed when I quit and reopened iCal. Plus my changes didn't sync to my iPod.
When looking at the Console.app, I saw:

I tried to export / delete / import all my calendars, that didn't help. Then I noticed I also have the calendar automatically generated for the birthdays from my address book.
I unchecked "Show Birthdays calendar" from the General preferences. Now iCal works again (I can add / edit / delete events and the error message doesn't show in the Console.app anymore)

I just installed Lion and am using Icloud - I delete an event and it pops back up right before my eyes. I try to change an event to all day, it moves to the all day section for a second and then returns to the original time.
Any ideas?

That's because your iPod shuffle is likely configured to automatically sync with your iTunes library. If you would like to be able to manually add, remove, and edit tracks on your iPod Shuffle, you'll need to enable the Manually manage music option from under your iPod's Summary tab.

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups. The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more. The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

Is there a way to get iCal to put the time of each event on Monthly view without going in and editing each event?

When I enter a new event on iCal with the time, it leaves the time off of the Monthly view and in order for me to glance at the times of the day's events I have to click on each event or go into the event and edit it again putting the time on, for it to show. Is there a way to get it to show without doing this?

Updated iPhoto 11 and cannot open Events with double click or any other way. I can only view those photos by creating an album from all of them, then I can open the album and edit or delete etc. Any one have that problem?

After upgrading to iPhoto 11 and the latest upgrade 9.4.1 (701 67) I cannot open any Event. The normal double click does not work, nor anything else I have tried. The only way I can view the photos in an Event is to make an Album of it, and then I can easily open it with a double click and edit and delete, arrange photos etc. Anyone have this problem. Any ideas about how to open an event?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
