ICal - MobileMe - Exchange

Good morning all,
until a few weeks ago, all was perfect in this world. Received invites in Mail (ics attachements), dropped them in iCal, which would sync to my iPhone through MobileMe.
Then "progress" came our way in the form of Exchange 2007. Had to tweak a few things (adding an exchange account into iCal for one). Now, invites show automatically in iCal, but under a separate set of calendars (I have my own drop down calendars, and then this new Exchange list of drop down calendar).
The thing is, those invites, not being in "my" local calendars, don't sync to my iPhone through MobileMe. How do I get this to work? Do I make sense ?
Thanks!

Hi JWilson@ch,
So I thought I was the only person doing that crazy workflow to get everything synced. I do it exactly the same way.
I stupidly upgraded to the new MobileMe last year when first invited, and spent the next few days working out how to get it all back and working. I have been happily syncing everything the old way since then.
My major concern now is that I just received an email from MobileMe today saying I have to upgrade now as they have stopped syncing the old calendar! I haven't checked this yet (I will in a sec), but if I have to upgrade, that means I lose everything that has worked so well since MobileMe started.
My crappy work Blackberry is useless for mirroring my Outlook calendar, so syncing my work onto the much more user friendly iPhone had been a saviour. Now I have all of my work and personal appointments in the same place, and I never miss anything.
What to do now? Is there another way to get my PC calendar onto my iPhone, apart from the Exchange Activesync option which my office also doesn't support.
I'll hold out as long as I can...

  • ICal / MobileMe To Dos & iPhone syncing over mobile networks: Solution!!!

I have been after a solution to use the to do list in iCal on my Mac @ home and the MobileMe Calendar web page while at work & away from home AND have it sync OTA with my iPhone. There hasn't been a solution that I have found for this until now! I have tried Things and OmniFocus, but in my opionion they are both too bloated for my needs. I want a simple todo list with due dates, notes, priorities and URLs, that I can use on desktops as well as mobile. The iCal / MobileMe to do list is perfect for this, but until now there hasn't been a way to keep the same todo list on my iPhone and keep it in sync everywhere.
I now have a solution. Appigo recently launched a beta of their iCal Sync app for OSX. I downloaded & installed this to my Mac at home, and downloaded their iPhone Todo app. Great syncing between iCal and iPhone over my home Wifi network. Then, I thought, what is to stop me using this over the internet when I'm not at home? So I setup a domain with no-ip.org, which allows you to point a domain name at your home DSL router IP address and have it forward traffic to your home computer. Using a DNS solution in this way means you can dynamically update the domain name to change when your router public IP address changes (unless you have a static IP assigned with your ISP). So, anyway, I set this up to point at my router's public IP address, then configured my home router to forward a specific TCP port to my Mac. So when traffic arrives at the router from the internet destined for this specific port, the router forwards it to the Mac. I configured the Appigo iCal sync app to listen on a static port (the same one I configured on the router) and ensured both my Mac and router firewalls were set to permit this traffic.
So now, with MobileMe set to sync automatically, I can add/edit/delete a todo on my iPhone when I'm away from my home wifi network and it instantly syncs with iCal on my Mac at home, then that gets propogated almost instantly to MobileMe. Also it means a change to the todo list on my Mac or on the MobileMe Calendar web page will also almost instantly get propgated to my iPhone (next timne the Todo app syncs).
Brilliant! The perfect solution for me, and only costing the price of the Appigo todo iPhone app!
If anyone would like more detail on how this was all done, let me know and I can go into more detail.
Just need to find something similar for note syncing now, and I'll be sorted.

Thanks for the excellent information on Appigo ToDo and Sync. This is great way to fulfill the unexplainable absence of this feature from Apple's own application suite (MobileMe, iCal, To Do items).
I downloaded Sync and the iPhone app. Configuration was a snap. I'm still working from a trial membership of MobileMe...with this feature working I'm just about ready to pony up and get a full membership.

  • ICAL + MobileMe = Confusion

Having upgraded to the new version of MobileMe, I have eventually managed to sync my iCAL, MobileMe and iPhone diaries (thanks to those who have already posted communications on how to do this). However, I have a couple of questions in relation to this:
    1. If all three diaries are now syncing wirelessly, what happens if I lose my iPhone and have to remotely wipe the data on it - does this mean that all my diary entries on MobileMe will also be wiped?
    2. I now don't seem to be able to export my iCAL diary to archive to back it up - is this because i am no longer using 'on my mac' and now using 'me.com'? Is there a way to save the me.com calendar to the hard drive for safety and back-up?
    Thanks

    Dr Law,
...does this mean that all my diary entries on MobileMe will also be wiped?
No, all your data will remain in the cloud.

  • New iCal / MobileMe system: how to synchronize ? How to group calendars ? H

    Hi there,
Apple decides to change iCal/MobileMe system. Thanks for changing something that worked fine. Now it doens't.
I used to have my local calendar that synchronized with MobileMe, with groups of calendar (e.g. professional & personal). I used to publish professional calendars. Worked fine.
Now the 'MobileMe calendars' appear on iCal. I have problems
1/ I cannot create groups of calendars on MobileMe. How to do that ? And how next to publish one group ?
2/ I have local calendar still here. But it does not synchronize no more with MobileMe (in both ways). How to ?
3/ I want to go back with the ancien system. How to get back ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi Roger,
Thank you for your answers and your contribution.
The new MobileMe calendar does not support Groups.
You mean that, now that I decided to pay to synchronize, I have less services ? Quite original !!
To transfer a local calendar to MobileMe: select it; from the File menu choose Export...>Export... - an .ics file will be saved in the specified location.
I have several calendars (around 15) I regularely save. Before, I used to save the whole database simply in one click.
If I undersatand well, I will have to save manually all calendars one by one ?
I really do not undersatand these "improvements"...

  • ICal and Exchange Server 2003

    Hello from Barcelona,
I am a new mac user trying to sync iCal with Exchange Server 2003. I have followed all instructions regarding domain, user name, password and URL address but it does not work. The last answer received was "account info not found" & "“HTTP/1.1 440 Login Timeout”. Incredible but when using the program AddressX (downloaded from internet) with the above mentioned configuration...it works and can get my company's global book address.
Just to make sure I am following all "mac" rules. What I am using is:
    Domain/UserName
    Password
    https://company.com/exchange/User.Name
Am I missing any important thing? Please help!!
    Thanks in advanced!!

There are several discussions regarding this same topic on the Apple forums and elsewhere. None of them have solved the problem. This seems to be an issue that has been around for a long time but never addressed by Apple or Microsoft. From some simple tests that I have done, it appears the the Microsoft Exchange Server is not interpreting the iCal event (.ics extension) properly. I have seen discussions saying that Apple is not formatting the event properly or is using a newer standard that MS Exchange does not support. I believe it is the later as I can make the event work properly without any software changes but I have to do some steps manually. Here is how I can make it work and why I believe something is wrong in MS Exchange:
    - create event in iCal and add an Outlook user
    - send the event/email (ignore this email on the PC as it does not work)
    - open the just sent email and save the attached iCal event
    - find the saved iCal event and add a letter to the extension such as ".icss"
    - (Note: I don't know if there is a way to rename an attachment already in a message)
    - attach this renamed event to a new message and send it to the Outlook user
    - the Outlook user must open the message, save the attachment and rename it back to ".ics"
    - double clicking / opening this renamed file now works perfectly in Outlook
Now, if I could only automate some of these steps on the Mac before I send the message would be very helpful. This is not a great solution but I use it for events that I want to sync between my home Mac and my office PC.
Because the renamed attachment (.icss) works through Exchange (by ignoring it), I am lead to believe that MS Exchange will interpret an ".ics" extension and mess up the handling of it for some reason. Microsoft is never one to follow standards very carefully or adopt them very quickly. Our company is using Exchange 2003 so maybe that is part of the problem as it is an older version.

  • Sync iCal - iPhone - Exchange 2007 broken after MobileMe Calendar upgrade

I need to keep contacts and calendars in sync between my work pc (XP, Outlook 2003, Exchange Server 2010), my home Mac (10.6.6) and my iPhone (3GS, iOS 4.3). Until recently, that worked fine by the following (roundabout) way: PC syncs with Plaxo online via Outlook add-in; Plaxo syncs with Mac; Mac syncs with MobileMe; MobileMe syncs with iPhone. However, the recent upgrade to new MobileMe calendar breaks this workflow, at least for calendar syncing, because Plaxo cannot synchronise with the new CalDAV cloud-hosted calendars. Can anyone suggest another way of getting this to work?
I thought MobileMe for PC might be a solution, but while it can show MobileMe calendars in Outlook, it can't synchronize them (and it seems not to work with Windows XP). A while back, I tried using Google Calendar as the focal point, but found Google Calendar Sync for Windows created a lot of duplicate items, lost items and general mess.
PS The office network doesn't run Exchange ActiveSync and does not allow a vpn connection from Mac or iPhone.

  • Sync ICal with Exchange

    Hi
I have the following problem. my Ical doesn´t sync with exchange calendar any more. only syncs till june 2010. Iphone sync still works (with the same server address etc.) both ways. I deleted Ical and calender cache and created the exchange account from the start. but that did not help.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. All my Macs synced fine with the companys MS Exchange Server 2007 until the Mac OS X update was installed, which was released by Apple in mid Dec. 2010. The update was needed to support the new MobileMe calendar, which was also released by Apple at that time. Since this update all iCal installations on all of my Macs are not able to connect to the Exchange Server any more.
The sync of Addressbook and Mail with the Exchange Server still works. So does the syncing of my iPad and iPhone with Mail, Addressbook and Calendar of the Exchange Server still works. Only the iCal of neither of my three Macs doesn't sync any more. Well the sync with me MobileMe calendar and my devices works perfect.
I'm sure that the update is the cause of the sync issue with Exchange, because each of me Macs stopped syncing and showing the exclamation mark beside the Exchange Server account in iCal after updating the system with the MobileMe Patch. Clicking on the exclamation mark shows a message saying the at this time iCal is not possible to sync with the account. Looks the same as when there is no internet connection to the Exchange Server - only difference is, that there is a connection to it because Mail and Addressbook can access the Exchange Server.
I've already tried to delete the Exchange Server account in iCal and set it up from the scratch. But this only deleted my old calendar entries I had form the time when the sync still worked.
I hope someone from Apple reads this reply and has an answer to this problem. I was searching the Net since this problem accrued to me. I'm sure, that there is no system failure which causes the problem, because I have it on three Macs.
    Greetings
    Mano

  • MobileMe & Exchange?

    Hello all,
I've had a personal iPhone for some time working great with MobileMe. I have a Blackberry for work linked to my company's Exchange server.
We've just made the decision to go iPhone for work which means I can ditch my personal iPhone.
Will I be able to simultaneously use both MobileMe and Exchange? Are the contacts and calendar synchronised between both services?
    Thanks

+You can subscribe to calendars that use the CalDAV or iCalendar (.ics) formats. Many calendar-based services including Yahoo! and Google, and the Mac OS X iCal application support either format.+

  • ICal, MobileMe, Outlook sync

Hey all, thanks in advance for your help. I use an iMac, MacBook Pro, and iPhone for personal use. I also use a Dell PC at work and my agency requires that my appointments be posted in the Outlook calendar which utilizes Microsoft Exchange server, and the OS on my Dell at work is MS XP Pro.
I currently use iCal on my iPhone during appointments to schedule next sessions with clients. Those appointments then get synced with mobileme to my laptop and to my iMac at home. Fine. BUT, I also want (and am required by my work) to have those same appointments on my Outlook calendar on the Dell desktop.
When I go to the MobileMe control panel for Windows app on my Dell desktop Control Panel, it says that "Syncing of MS Outlook contacts and calendars is not possible when Outlook is configured to use MS Exchange Server" - which ours is. So it appears I cannot use MobileMe to sync my calendar.
I also thought, well, I can hard-wire sync my phone to my desktop at work, but when I do that, the sync process won't take the iCal data and draw it from the phone to be put in Outlook calendar, it wants to replace the information on my iPhone with the Outlook calendar data which I erased - so there is nothing on my Outlook calendar at this point. My thought was once I was able to do the first transfer of data from iCal on my iPhone to the MS Outlook calendar, then syncing would happen as needed from that point forward. I don't want to allow it to transfer from Outlook TO my iPhone the first time though because it will erase everything on my iPhone iCal, I think.
I'm so frustrated. Does anyone know how I can successfully use my iPhone, MacBook, iMac, and me.com on the web - to add appointments to my iCal calendars, and then make sure that data gets transferred to my Outlook calendar on my work desktop? I don't need to use my desktop outlook calendar to enter appointments, just need to have them appear there.
    HELP!! and thanks.

  • Tasks in mail/ical in exchange.

We have started to assign tasks to other people in the office using the tasks in exchange. What I see on my mac side is the task e-mail showing up in mail, and nothing in iCal. Is there some work around for fix for this to have those show up in iCal and hence exchange tasks? The reason I ask is because we are testing this for our phones and since the task was never accepted, it doesn't show up on my phone to complete it.

    I have the same question.

  • ICal Shared Exchange Calendar Stopped Working

I have been successfully accessing the Johns Hopkins Exchange servers for mail, address book, and calendar services on my Mac for months. In iCal I had also been accessing a shared Exchange calendar for many months. About 1-2 months ago, I lost access to this shared calendar in iCal only. Since I can still access it from Outlook on a PC, it seems something must have changed on my Mac. I still have access to my own exchange calendar in iCal, but when I go to re-setup the shared calendar in the account set up window, it shows that the shard calendar exists in the list of available calendars, but the indicator spins and spins without ever revealing my delegate privileges. Did Apple change something that is blocking access to my delegate privileges in iCal?
    Thanks for any help,
    Bill Convey

I would suggest to go into the options for that exchange server on your Pre and reset the calendar preference (that is: change it to not sync the calendar, save those settings, then switch it to 'on' again).
After doing this, perform the following action:
    -Open your Contacts App
-Select Preferences & Accounts from the dropdown menu
-Scroll to the bottom of that page and select "Sync Now".
This should resync all data on all Accounts on your phone.
Please note: It may take up to 10 minutes to sync all data from all Accounts. If you do not see all synced information after 10 minutes, perform a soft reset (shutdown your phone and restart it).

  • ICal and Exchange Errors

Hi everyone.  I'm new to Mac but experienced with iPhone and iPad.  I have a brand new iMac running Lion with all the latest updates.  I have my corporate Exchange account configured just like I do with my iOS 5 iPhone and iPad.  On the Mac, Address Book and Mail work fine.  iCal however is having some issues.
I have two calendars on my Exchange account, my main one "Calendar" and another one "Team Calendar".  When I fire up iCal it just says "Updating..." for a long time.  Clicking on "Calendars" I see both of my calendars listed.  This is what happens on my iOS devices.  However, only events from "Team Calendar" show in iCal.  Nothing from "Calendar" shows.  Not a single event.  "Team Calendar" is very simple with basic events (not meetings with attendees).  My main "Calendar" has tons of repeating events, meetings with attendees, events that I've yet to respond to, etc.  I'm suspecting something is tripping up iCal.  Like I said, works fine on iPhone and Pad.
I saw some posts in this community to delete ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache    I did that but it didn't fix the problem.  And like I said, this is a brand new Lion install and this is the first time I've used iCal.  My company runs Exchange 2007 from what I understand.  I checked Console and found this:
3/1/12 7:40:54.089 PM iCal: Could not find Meta Data for persistent Store
3/1/12 7:43:02.150 PM iCal: Unexpected type EWSMeetingResponseMessageType for calendar Calendar in account Pega
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Adam

With 10.7 I could not see either of the mentioned cache files to delete them - which puzzled me (I did not have to unhide Libaries, and I could see other cache entries, so pretty sure it wasn't just hidden?!)
I changed the port to 443 with SSL on and this allowed the Delegates tab to populate, and could even resolve a name of one of the exchange server users - so I know the connection is good. (And contacts and email are synching to the same work server). And like abfield, the iPhone and iPad sync the calendar perfectly both ways.
    My errors are
    25/06/14 12:38:04.233 PM iCal:  error = Error Domain=CalExchangeErrorDomain Code=-11 "iCal can’t refresh events in the calendar “Calendar”." UserInfo=0x7fcf4cb9af90 {CalFailedOperationKey=<CalExchangeSyncFolderItemsOperation: 0x7fcf3a978fd0>, NSLocalizedDescription=iCal can’t refresh events in the calendar “Calendar”., NSLocalizedFailureReason=The account "work" currently can’t be refreshed.}
25/06/14 12:37:36.462 PM iCal: Unexpected type EWSMessageType for calendar Calendar in account work
Apple phone support were apologetic but basically said that connections to Exchange Server were too hard as there were too many settings. Duh.
Reading others' posts it appears that if a user has Outlook 2013, that there are now some incompatible Status options that can be set for appointments.
This is similar to the issue in this thread but also an issue reported here https://discussions.apple.com/message/22514700
I have copied the content here:
Checked out the Console logs and it throws these three errors below.  There is something with the "LegacyFreeBusyStatus" that is causing the sync to fail.  Outlook 2013 has a new status of "working somewhere else".  I had used it for a few items.  I also found an item that had a Null status (like what it is pointing to in the error).  Removed that item and changed all the others to a valid stauts for previous versions of outlook.  ie. Free, Busy, etc.
2/12/13 3:29:32.871 PM CalendarAgent[19447]: [com.apple.calendar.store.log.exchange.queue] [-[CalOperationQueue executeOperations] :: [<EWSCalendarItemType 0x7f9dfac9e9b0> setNilValueForKey]: could not set nil as the value for the key LegacyFreeBusyStatus.]
This all suggests that one or more of my appointments has a status that iCal can't cope with.
Is there a way to narrow down which these are and to blanket change them in Outlook 2013?

  • Shared calendars in iCal via Exchange 2007

I am trying to test a solution for a user that has an iMac she wishes to connect to our Windows network and access her email and calendars from home. She will VPN of course, and upgrade to Snow Leopard for Exchange support. I have everything working up to that point on a test MacBook with 10.6.2 that is on the inside (will test VPN after everything works internally). I created an Exchange account that I can receive mail in Mail.app and normal calendar events in iCal.
The situation she is attempting to do is to see shared Exchange calendars. Not public folder calendars, but individual calendars that have been shared with her. Now in Outlook, all you have to do is click Open a Shared Calendar and input the user name of the calendar owner. In iCal, I think it is the Subscribe function, but it asks for a URL. What am I supposed to enter there? I have Outlook Web Access (OWA) URLs for the calendar I am trying to access, but when I input the URL string, I get an error saying the data was not valid.
    Anyone else doing this???
BTW, here is a link to a shot of the error message I am getting:

There is an alternative way you could try which works very well for our client who uses both macs and pc's on a windows network.
On iCal go to ICAL > Preferences. Click on the Accounts tab, select the exchange account and click on the delegations tab. On here click the + symbol and type in the first few letters of the user who's calendar she needs access to - if exchange is configured correctly it should automatically find the username and add that calendar to iCal for her to view.
