ICal - moving multiple events as group

Hello. Please, it's possible to move multiple events(in the same or different cals) as a group ? For example i wake up one hour later so I need to move all today's events one hour later...
I see no way to do this

Moving multiple events to a new HD

I have a new external HD. I'm wanting to move many, many events from one external HD to the new one. Seems I can only move one event at a time. If I Command Click to select multiple events then Command and drag, that is not possible. If I click an event then Command and drag to new HD that works fine. Is there a way to move multiple events at once rather than one at a time? Thanks.

No worries.
Either way it should work fine using the command key to highlight many iMovie events and then drag them. Move slowly so that iMovie has a chance to track your motions and make sure the external drive icon lights up in the iMovie interface before you drop the files.
If it still doesn't seem to be working remove the following to the trash and restart the computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.imovie
If that does not take care of it I would re-post your question in the iMovie forum for further suggestions.

How can I stop iCal giving multiple event notifications?

Fellow iCal users,
I'm currently using iCal and MobileMe to share calendars with my wife and kids, very successfully to my surprise after years of not quite getting it set up right. But, I'm plagued by one very annoying behaviour when creating events using iCal on Mac OS X Lion (10.7.1) at least, as opposed to iOS devices, and can't seem to find a way to stop it.
We have the service set to email new and changed events to the appropriate users so that everyone is aware of additions to the calendars. But here is what happens :-
Create New Event - Everyone gets an email to say "New Event added"
Give Event a name - Everyone gets an email to say "Event updated"
Set a time for the Event - Everyone gets an email to say "Event updated"
Set the correct calendar for the Event - Everyone gets an email to say "Event updated"
So, in the 20 seconds it takes me to create and set the event, everyone get 4 emails as I'm doing so. Needless to say I'm doing this in one go, and not closing the event between operations. I can't see a logical reason why anyone would prefer such a behaviour, as opposed to a single email once all the parameters are set during the creation or modification of an event. I've trying changing the Preferences from "Push" to "Every X minutes", but that didn't make any difference.
Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

I wish that I was replying with a solution. Alas, I am not. I am writing to commiserate. This issue is driving me and my husband (to whom all of the useless email notifications are being sent) completely bonkers.

ICal moving an event to a new date, next week or next months,

how do i drag my event from todays days to next months, i can not seem to drag an event from a date to another date unless its in the same week if in week view, or same month if in the mionth view, Their must be a simple drag function

Dragging is not possible under the circumstances that you describe.
You click on the event and use (⌘C) and then (⌘V). if you want to remove the event from the first occurrence use (⌘X), and (⌘V).

How do I select multiple events in iCal 8.0?

In OSX Mavericks, I used to be able to select multiple events in iCal in the event list view. I could select the initial event in the span of events to be selected. Then hold Shift while selecting the final even in the span of events. As a result, all of the events in that span would be selected.
in OSX Yosemite, this is no longer possible. There appears to be no list view, and holding the Shift button does not allow me to select a span of events.
What is the best way to select a span of events, say as much as 30 events?

Empty Caches
1. Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    "Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
2. Quit Safari if open.
    Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" and then "Caches".
    Look for the folder 'com.apple.Safari"
    Right click "com.apple.Safari" and select "Move to Trash"
    Relaunch Safari.

I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal

I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal. Except I don't know where these are coming from or why. I've check iCal preferences and Help - can't find a way to stop this from happening automatically. Any Clues? Also, some of the events are already on my calendar and have been for quite some time.

What do you mean by "events to update"? Do you mean invites to new events or changes to existing invites?
Troubleshooting:
1. Your profile indicates you are running 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is the current version Apple > Software update.
2. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

Ical keeping both events when I move events from one google calendar to another

Hi all!
I use multiple google calendars and sync them with my iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Air. I like to move events from one calendar to another (for color coding purposes), and am coming across a unique issue that I hope someone has a solution to.
When I edit an event by moving the event from one calendar to another the events show up correctly on the iPhone and iPad, but not in my iCal on MacBook Air. (Only when I make the changes on my iPhone and iPad). For example, when I switch an event originally created in my 'appointments' calendar to my 'done' calendar the event shows up appropriately on iPhone and iPad, and even in my Google calendars on the web. But, the iCal on my MacBook Air keeps both events. This only happens when I make the changes from the iPhone or iPad. If I make calendar changes on my computer, then there are no hiccups on any of the devices.
It seems like a syncing issue with iCal, and I can't figure out how to prevent the duplications in my iCal on my computer from showing up. Quite annoying because I have to go in and delete all of the duplicated events on the computer at the end of the day.
I have the Mavericks OS on my MBA and the software on my iPad and iPhone are updated to the latest software.

Add alarms to multiple events

Hi,
I've imported a number of events into my iCal calendar for anniversaries and birthdays, using Dates to iCal 2. This is supposed to set up alarms when selected, which I did. However, it didn't set up the alarms.
As I've got probably over 100 events which I want to have alarms on I don't want to go in to each event individually to set them up if at all possible. I'd really like to shortcut this if at all possible as all of the alarms will be set to the same time frames, ie 5 days before - send email. 4 days before - pop up message.
Is there a way to set the alarm for multiple events at once, be it in iCal, through Automator or AppleScript for example?

Here's how I've got it set up...
General tab
I've got the Sync Address Book dates to iCal checked.
For Birthday events and Anniversary events I've got the text "Birthdays and Anniversaries" so that they both go into the same calendar.
I've left only sync for group blank as I want it for all.
Titles tab
For both Birthday and Anniversary I've got the the same fields, set to...
First name | Last name | : | type | age
Alarms tab
In this tab I've got
Email: 5 days before at 08:00 ticked for Birthdays and Anniversaries
Message: 4 days before at 10:00 ticked for Birthdays and Anniversaries
I've got no other alarms set.
I've got the email set to my personal email address.
The path for the alarms to my Home folder
Sound for alarms as Basso
When I then close Dates 2 iCal it creates the events in iCal, but not the alarms.
One further query, I've just done a reinstall of my system and since reinstalling Dates 2 iCal the Buy/Register button is greyed out, so I'm unable to reregister it, I purchased it a good while back as I've found it a really useful tool.

How do I split a single event with many clips into multiples events, one event per date?

I archived the video from my AVCHD camera into a Final Cut video archive. Later I imported this into iMovie. All the clips from this archive (spanning several months) are dumped into a single event. If I recall, older versions of iMovie would import video into separate events for each day. Then I would go through and give each event a meaningful name (e.g., "Mary's Birthday").
This is what I would like. Is there a way to split this very long event into multiple events, one for each day that is present in the event?

Not automatically but with imovie 10 you can create new events with any name you like then move clips into them from other events (Just like FCP 10.1). See:

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and called apple support. The solution is as follows:
Most apple users have multiple devices using icloud such as an iPdad, iPhone, and other computers. In my case, I had two computers, two iPads, and one iPhone. After speaking to apple support, I realized that one of my ipad's setting were set to delete events older then 2 weeks. In short, if you are expeirienceing problems with ical deleteing events, you better check all your devices. If just one of them is set wrong in your preferences, you will lose past events. Even check computers you gave to your cildren or other members of the family. You will probably find out that the settings on one of these machines is causing your problems.

Is it possible to show multiple events in the Events window of IMovie ?

we have recently made a video of a play, where we filmed from different angles each day over 7 nights using a selection of long and mid-shots. So we now have multiple Events ( one from each day). In order to now edit all the events into a single project it would be helpful if I could display all the events underneith each other in the Events window to make shot selection and editing easier.

In the View menu do you have, Group Events by Disk, Grou Events by Month and Show Separate Dates in Events all checked?
That should allow you the broadest way to view all your Events.

Moving multiple objects in a Finder window

Try a simple experiment in Tiger (10.4): in a Finder window with the icon view + snap to grid ON, select multiple grouped objects (e.g. 10-20) and move them to a different place in the same window.
They will not stay grouped but be sometimes dispersed in a random way or even move to places belonging to different grids.
Another experiment is to move a single object from one window into another one: this changes the grid of the second window from time to time.
This is extremely annoying when you want to keep the icons ordered.
This bug existed also in Panther.
I'm convinced it will exist in the next Mac OS X release. Do you bet ?

In my case there are no other major application running when I see the moving multiple objects bug in the Finder. And (as for econupmac) the problem is intermittent.
I've checked the bug again and realize that it appears mostly when I'm moving a group of objects belonging to different columns. Here is what I did:
Create a folder with the 'Snap to grid' option ON and 'Icon size 16x16'. Set its View as Icon. Load this folder with 30 files and organize them into 3 groups of 10 files side by side. Enlarge the size of the folder to have plenty space by maneuver.
Now select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and move them gently around, then release them. The 'Snap to grid' feature will work fine and the files will be shifted to the nearest grid position... except when the files will stay in the middle of nowhere (you might need to do it several times until it happens).
THIS IS THE APPLE BUG.
This bug is more easily seen when a group of objects belonging to 2 adjacent columns is moved. Check this on a nicely arranged folder : Select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and the 5 bottom files of the right column and move them slightly. I bet that they will not stick to the grid. This will create a second grid which corrupts the folder. The next time you'll move around objects in this folder you'll see how crazy the folder behaves.

Create a new calendar iCal>File>New Calendar, name it as you desire, and delete the remaining calendars.
This will delete all of the events that currently exist in iCal!

Multiple event structures in one VI

I have two event structures in a single VI, one that handles events that freeze the user interface and one for events that don't. The latter group are all triggered acquisition tasks, where you arm the data acquisition, but possibly might want to abort it (or do other things, while waiting for the data to come. Obviously you need a stop button to be active and responsive. In retrospect, using two loops was possibly a poor choice, but one I made because it never occured to me that these things would only fire once and have to be put in a while loop to be kept active. No other language does that as far as I know. Anyway, the question is how do I keep both active? Do I enclose both in a single while loop? Do I give each there own while loop. Do I give up and merge the two event structures into one. For clarity I would like to keep them seperate, but that is not essential. I'ld like to know what my options are.

The answer to this is fundamental to how LabVIEW works. A loop will not proceed to the next cycle until everything inside it completes. If you have two event structures in the same loop, both of them need to process an event (or a timeout) before the loop will iterate.
You can have multiple event structures in the same VI.
By "freeze the UI," do you mean the "Lock front panel..." checkbox in the event dialog? There is no problem with having some events that do lock the front panel and some that do not in the same event structure. I'm not sure that this is what you mean by "freezing" the UI, though.
EDIT: and one more comment. Generally you should not put long-running tasks (like data acquisition) inside an event structure. Instead, the event case should pass those tasks off to a separate loop (for example using a queue) so that the event structure can quickly go back to listening for other events.

Ical crashes when event not all day over several days

ical shows event across several days when "all day" box checked. when "all day" box unchecked, and specified times span several days, event only shows on first day?

Yes, Apple any help for this would be great. The only way I've come to work around is to use multiple events. So for a flight out of town would be one event, and the return another. I would create a third event then for the actual time out of town. There must be some way to easily fix this.
