ICal not starting
My Ical application stubbornly refuses to open. I have no idea why. It begins to load up and then I get an error message which I have copied and pasted below. I am computer illiterate and have no ideas what is going on. I think a visit to my local apple store might be best?

Welcome to Discussions, coco4fun
Your Apple Store can certainly fix it quickly and without bother.
If you have the time and want to try something new today, here is something you can try first.
Even if the update does not fix your iCal, updating offers several improvements and does no harm.
Your posted system info shows Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Unless you have compelling reason for not using the latest version, you can update and probably fix your iCal at the same time.
Restart your Mac and then use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Then download and install the Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo):
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permisssions again.
Then try iCal again.

Added calendar in iCal not synced to MobileMe
I moved a calendar from "On My Mac" to my MobileMe account group, using the export-import method. The new calendar, however, does not sync to MobileMe. I even tried an overwrite (bookmarks, calendars, contacts and keychains) from my Mac to MobileMe but the added calendar still did not appear in MobileMe.
I quit and relaunched iCal, which started an immediate sync. The new calendar promptly disappeared from iCal and I got a string of error messages (one for each entry in the new calendar, it seems) all ending with
The server responded with
“HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict”
and asking me to either "Go Offline" or "Revert to Server". It didn't seem to matter which one I selected – the error just kept cropping up. Eventually, I gave up and force quit iCal.
How can I add a new calendar to iCal that will sync with MobileMe?Derek,
I presume that this procedure represents exactly what you have tried to accomplish?
Import an iCal calendar or event
If you use iCal and want to add your iCal calendars and events to a MobileMe calendar, you can import them.
Hide
To import an iCal calendar:
Open iCal, and then select the iCal calendar you want to import into your MobileMe calendar.
Choose File > Export > Export.
Type a calendar name, choose a location from the Where pop-up menu, and click OK.You can store the exported file anywhere, and you can delete it after you finish importing it.
Choose File > New Calendar, and then choose a MobileMe calendar (by default, your MobileMe email address).
Type a calendar name (you can use the same name as the calendar you just exported), and press Return.
Choose File > Import > Import, select your exported iCal calendar, and then click Import.
Select the destination MobileMe calendar to which you want to add the imported iCal calendar, and then click OK.
Quit iCal and go to the Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and delete any/all files with "Cache" as a part of the name. Log out/in or restart and reattempt using the exact procedure which I copied from the MobileMe Help page. -
Ical not showing new events and older events as well
Hi There,
Since (as I recall) last monday, iCal started to work strange. Or, better put in other way: stopped working.
I have three calendars only (personal, work and "no category), all of them syncing with iCloud. There are two other local calendars too (in "my mac"), but I don't use them and they are unchecked.
I only use my macbook white and an iphone 3GS, also syncing with iCloud.
I don't subscribe any external calendar and don't accept any kind of invitation. It is a basic-simple use: I set my appointments (throw the whole year) and want to see / edit them on iphone.
Finally, I use reminders (on iphone) a lot and share the "personal" calendar with my with (she uses iCloud on her iphone and ipad).
The problems are basic two (as I could indentify so far):
1) I can't set new appointments on iCal. Or better: I may set, but cannot see it. For instance, when a double click the Feb 24th to set a appointment, nothing happens, but a "New event" apperars on iCloud, right way. Looks like that iCal is setting the event up, but it just does not show it. Lately, I've discovered that when I go to the week view in iCal, it shows the event, but it just don't appear on month or year views;
2) There are a bunch of events that appear correctly on iCloud (and iphone) but just don't show up in my iCal.
I've been trying to find a solution, already followed a couple of step-by-step possible solution (deleted local calendars, took off iClound accoun from iCal, deleted all files on specific folders in my library), but anything work out. It just don't work anymore.
Scary...
I have just quit iCal and started using iCloud as my main input way for may events.... Wonder if anyone else is facing something like this and if is there any sollution out there.
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my bad English.i have a similar problem. i can't add any new events to my ical. i can do it on ical on icloud but not on the ical on my itouch. i can't edit them either. it tells me the event can not be saved because a calendar has not been chosen. it was working just fine yesterday and now it won't work.
i'm new to this on line community stuff. i posted my questions but i don't know how i'm supposed to see any answers. i guess it doesn't matter that i even ask you this or reply to you because i don't plan to be able to see any comments to this. oh well. computer stuff is just crap sometimes. i guess we have to learn to deal with it.
my paper calendar NEVER gave me any problems. i would just pull out my trusty pen and write down my appointment and wallah! it was done. it wouldn't get erased or deleted or stop working. -
Energy saver not starting the MM at times, holds the log a clue?
I have a MM as a server, normal OS, that sometimes does not start in the morning. It is set to shut down at 23.00 and does so all evenings at 23.10. However this morning (01-10-2011) it did not come on again and I was looking through the log and found some strange stuff.
like:
29/09/2011 12:38:06 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/Metadata.framework /Versions/A/Support/mdworker[848] FolderManager: Failed looking up user domain root; url='file://localhost/dev/null/' path=/dev/null/ err=-36 uid=505 euid
and
29/09/2011 12:38:11 /Applications/Utilities/QuickTime Player 7.app/Contents/MacOS/QuickTime Player 7[262] DTUninstall(), the current deferred task 0x267454 being removed is also currently executing its dtAddr routine, so unexpected things may result ( Radar #4555679 ).
and
29/09/2011 23:30:02 mds[66] (Error) Task: QueryClose failed (-1) for store <MDSStoreToken: 0x411050>{storeID:0x6b000010 registered:YES private:NO age:14h18m40s uuid:5D7AEDC7-4772-4AB5-A1D9-5C5AF631FBFF machPort:0x00004007}
Now if it hangs for some reason I have a cron script that kills all at 23.30. However I installed this via Cronnix and just checked and it is no longer there in Cronnix. however the machine turns of at 23.30, so this puzzled me too. Is there a way to see in cron if there is a script there? And remove it?
Two questions, is there anything in the log (I am not an expert here) that should not be or could cause this.
second one, if i do a cron killall, would this effect the energy control panel and for the machine not to start the next morning?
Looking forward to your wisdom.

Hi
For the last week or so have been getting this notice continually popping up on my screen
The Server is Busy or Unavailable
The server is currently unable to handle the connection due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline.
Go Offline Try Again
I can not find any way of fixing this and I do not understand what could be cause it.
KThis *might* have worked for me - i did both things suggested in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19181444#19181444 I'm guessing the iCal issue is connected to the real death of MobileMe. (It was accessible for a while to download your stuff from iDisk, but i think it went completely offline around the time this iCal issue started.) At first, I only did what I list in 1 below, but that did not fix it for me. (Others in the thread indicated that was all that was needed to fix the issue for them.) I went back and did what I list in 2 and have not had the error message come up for the past two hours.
1. Go to system Preferences --> MobileMe and log out of your account or remove your member name and password.
2. In iCal go to - Preferences -> Accounts and select your accout with the MobileMe blue and whilte cloud. Under "Account Information," DEselect enable this account.
Hope this works for you, too. -
Mail and iCal not launching?
Hello,
I have a fairly new Macbook Pro (purchased in February of this year). I've not had any issues with it up till now, but in the past few days I've been having trouble with the Mail and iCal apps. Neither will launch, at all. When I click on the icons, they bounce, but then do not continue to open. I think it started after an aborted attempt to install the most recent update, but I can't swear to that. I can't say I've done anything to fix it, beyond restarting the computer. There's no error message; the application simply does not start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
CheersNo Mail plugins.... I'll check for disk corruption and do a safe boot later.
I turned off the auto check mail to manual and now I can open application. But Every time I click GET MAIL, it crashes.
I think it make have something to do with RSS feed. I deleted it to prevent it from checking. But it still resides in MAILBOX>GET NEW MAIL>RSS. When I choose it, it crashes.
When I choose my personal mailboxes, it won't do anything. I can send mail but can't receive. Then when I force to check all mailboxes, it crashes.
I believe it's something wrong in the system folder. When boot it ROOT, I tried to create a new account in mail and something is corrupted. Clicking the FINISHED button won't close the window but everytime I click it, it creates a new account with a weird name.
It could be the iSync and/or RSS, issue. -
Question
I am not able to launch FF everytime i try to open it, it says FF has to submit a crash report, and restore yr tabs. I even tried doing that and the report was submitted too, but still FF did not start, and the problem still persists, please help me solve this issue
'''(in English)'''Hi Danny,
Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
=COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
or
=SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

"can not start a job" issue in AWM
Hi ALL,
I am maintaining my cube from PLSQL with following options
1. buildtype = "BACKGROUND"
2. trackstatus = "true"
3. maxjobqueues = 3
i get following error when i see the "olapsys.xml_load_log" table
***Error Occured: Failed to Build(Refresh) DB_OWNER.MY_ANALYTICAL_WORKSPACE Analytic Workspace. Can not start a job.
Can anybody explain when and why this error occurs? I have wasted a lot of time searching for this issue, but have found no person facing such issue.
Hi Keith, it will be great if you can answer this one.
My database version is 10.2.0.4.0 and AWM version is also 10.2.0.3.0
Kind Regards,

Oracle OLAP - Version: 10.1 to 11.1
This problem can occur on any platform.
Symptoms
- We have an AW maintenance / refresh script or procedure that contains BuildType="BACKGROUND", so that the AW maintenance task will be sent to the Oracle Job queue.
- When we execute the AW maintenance / refresh script or procedure, we do not get any errors in the foreground, the script/procedure has been executed successfully.
- However when we look into the build/refresh log (see <Note 351688.1> for details) we see that the maintenance/refresh task failed with:
13:29:39 Failed to Submit a Job to Build(Refresh) Analytic Workspace <schema>.<AW Name>.
13:29:39 ***Error Occured in BUILD_DRIVER
- In the generated SQL trace for the session of the user who launches the AW build/refresh script or procedure, we see that ORA-27486 insufficient privileges error occurred at creation of the job.
We see from the relevant bit of the SQL trace that err=27486 occured while executing the #20 statement which is 'begin DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB ...', and the statement is parsed and tried to be executed as user having uid=91:
PARSING IN CURSOR #20 len=118 dep=2 uid=91 oct=47 lid=91 tim=1176987702199571

ERROR #20:err=27486 tim=465202984
Cause
User who tries to create a job (executes DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB() procedure) does not have the sufficient privileges.
Solution
1. Identify the user under which the job is supposed to be created. This user is not necessarily the same as the user who launched AW build/refresh script or procedure. Get the corresponding username from one of the %_USERS views e.g. from ALL_USERS.
e.g.
SELECT user_id,username FROM all_users WHERE user_id=91;
2. Identify the system privileges currently assigned to the user by connecting as the user whom the privileges need to be determined, and execute:
SELECT * FROM SESSION_PRIVS ORDER BY PRIVILEGE;
3. Ensure that the CREATE JOB privilege is listed.
The CREATE JOB privilege can be granted in various ways to a user:
- via role OLAP_USER or via role OLAP_DBA (see view ROLE_SYS_PRIVS for what privs are assigned to a role):
GRANT OLAP_USER TO <username>;
- explicitly
GRANT CREATE JOB TO <username>; -

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?
- After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod? If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
- If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
