ICal on iPhone Calendar Type Switch

So here's one of my many wishes...When you input a new event into iCal on the iPhone, and set it to a specific calendar, there is no way to switch the calendar type once it's complete. You should be able to switch the calendar type with the Edit button when entering a new event directly on the iPhone.

I want to add my voice to Graham’s. It’s frustrating when you’ve made an entry, then realize that you’d meant to assign it to a different calendar.

upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
    4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal.  Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once?  If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
    1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
    2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups.  They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.
    Hope that information helps.

  • Difference between iCal events & iPhone calendar after syncing

Events created on iMac iCal with a complex repeat (i.e every 2nd Tuesday of month) change their 'repeat' pattern on my sync'd iPhone calendar.
On the iMac calendar it continues to be correct but on my iPhone it now defaults to iPhone calendar's standard 'every month' repeat.
    Why the difference??

    I have this question too

  • Since Time Change, iCal and iPhone Calendar Time Are All Messed Up

Ever since the most recent daylight-savings time change, I noticed all events I created in iCal, when synced with my iPhone, became an hour off. If I edit the event on the iPhone, it stays the correct time on my iPhone, but when it syncs with iCal again, the time on iCal goes off by another hour, even though the time for the event on the iPhone stays correct. (Hopefully that makes sense) Has anyone else experienced this problem? It is incredibly annoying, because now I have no trust in any of my calendar entries as to what the correct time is.
As an example: I created an event for Sunday the 16th on iCal on my Mac for a 1-hour soccer game from 8:00PM - 9:00PM. When I synced my iPhone, I noticed a few days later that the event on my iPhone now said the event was from 9:00PM - 10:00PM...one hour off! I edited the event on my iPhone, and re-synced. Now my iPhone has the correct time (which I manually edited on the phone) but iCal now says the event goes from 7:00PM - 8:00PM. Again, an hour off, but in the reverse direction (an hour off early, rather than late). When I sync now, even though the times on the iPhone and the times on iCal don't match, they do not change...it's as if either the computer or the phone didn't recognize daylight savings time or something, and thinks it has the correct time for the event. Both my Mac and my iPhone's clocks do display the correct time and date, however, so it's not like the system clock is off. It is completely bizarre, and I entered my entire teams schedule this way, so ALL games were off, and now is completely screwed up. Please help.

Yes, I did. I posted an identical post in the iPhone forum since no one answered here. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1791145&tstart=0
The first reply solved the problem. It involved the Time Zone setting in iCal Advanced preferences for me.

  • ICal and iPhone calendars are off by 1 hour from each other

My iCal on desktop G5 and my iCal on my iPhone are syncing but they are an hour off of each other--in other words if I have a lunch scheduled for 11:00 on my desktop G5, it shows at 12:00 on my iPhone. I checked the clocks and they are both correctly on eastern standard time. Any suggestions?

It could be the hidden time zone settings.
The problem is that iPhone has TWO time zone settings -- one for time display and one for the calendar.
Under Settings->General->Date & Time, there is a time zone setting if "Set Automatically" is turned off.
Under Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars, there is a setting, too, but it's not obvious. You must scroll to the bottom of this window and select Time Zone Support, then turn it off. It's on by default.
What confuses the user is that the two settings can be different. The latter affects only the calendar.

  • Synching iCal with iPhone calendar through iTunes on Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I've seen some threads on in similar matters but none of them related to this problem:
I can't seem to sync my iPhone's calender and iCal throught iTunes. I CAN'T sync the two using iCloud, because I'm using Mac with Snow Leopard, which doesn't support iCloud.
I'm using iTunes 11.1.4, and when I go to the info tab on iTunes in order to sync the calenders, there are no options to choose. It simply says: "Your calenders are being synced with your iPhone over the air using iCloud, Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPhone".
I would rather not upgrade my OS unless I must. I'm using a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1.4 and iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.4.
    Thank you for your help!
    Daniel

    Hi danielshachar!
It sounds like the settings in your phone may be prompting iTunes to report that your contacts and calendars are being synced through iCloud. Use the information in the following article to adjust this setting so that you can sync your contacts and calendars through iTunes instead:

  • MobileMe, iCal, & the iPhone Calendar

How come when I add info directly to my iphone &/or MobileMe at Me.com, they all sync together, but if I add any info to my iCal on my Mac, nothing syncs internet wise.

Do you have System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync set to automatically?

  • ICal on Mac Pro will not sync to iPhone calendar

iCal-to-iPhone calendar sync seems to be busted. If I create an event on iCal on my Mac Pro (running OS X, 10.7.5), the Calendar app on my iPhone 4s (Model A 1387, running iOS 7.0.4) will not show it.
It used to sync fine, using either WiFi or plug-in. Now? Nada. Not Wi-Fi. Not via direct plug-in. The phone calendar remains undisturbed by any of my attempts to keep up-- which pretty much defeats much of its purpose. I've seen many posts on this subject, but I have not noticed my particular issue: that an iPhone that used to sync flawlessly now won't sync at all. The only variables are version upgrades in OS X and iOS. Any ideas?

    Hey McDougal,
Were you syncing direct with iTunes or going via iCloud?
Changes in iOS 7 means that there is no longer an 'info' tab in iTunes to sync your calendar there so you have to use iCloud.
I suggest you start here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3999
    Good luck.

  • ICal To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar

Why is it that at this stage of development, Apple has yet to offer a solution to manage and sync iCal to-do's with the iPhone Calendar? Am I missing something? It seems obvious that Apple is giving third party developers the opportunity to write the many wonderful To-Do apps out there, and there are many. The problem is, this doesn't fix the problem of sync-ability. I know that there are ways to sync between these third party apps and things such as their own desktop software (Things), which will then sync to to iCal. There are others that will sync to Google Calendar and/or Google Docs, but this is hardly a simple solution. There are always complications when you start syncing too many things to too many places, as the software doesn't always line up pretty.
I'm basically just looking for a simple solution to use iCal, my iPhone Calendar and a To-Do function that will sync seamlessly with both. The most natural thing would be for Apple to include To-Do creation in the iPhone Calendar app with full sync capability with iCal. I find it shocking that Apple hasn't written for this.
There are nice applications out there such as Pocket Informant that integrates a beautiful (and much more powerful calendaring function) with a To-Do function within the same application, but they have no ability to sync with iCal, nor do they have a desktop version of their software.
If anyone has any ideas on this, or advice on the best way to integrate iCal, To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar, please let me know. In the meantime, I will post feedback to the Apple developers with a seemingly obvious enhancement request.

With all due respect, I completely disagree with you. Integrating To-Do's and calendar events is a very natural way of organizing things. There is an app called Pocket Informant which does a very nice job in integrating the two. Even Apple thinks they are (and could be related), or else why even include to-do's in iCal to begin with? You see, it is as if they went half way in their effort. They provide something because they think it could be a good idea, but then they put no time or effort into actually making it useful for the end user. The fact that to-do's and notes show up in mail is also pointless. Why do I need mail to see my to-do's on my computer when I could just look in iCal, which is where they were created in the first place.
Omni focus is a very powerful app. I just think that it is way overkill. What good is an app that helps you get things done, when using it actually impedes getting those things done? It literally takes so much time and effort to work with Omni (if you really want to use it correctly), that you don't have any time left over for the things you need to get done.
And by the way, don't talk about hourly rates when you use words like "Gentlements", "prolly" (for, I am assuming probably", "proccess" (there is one c) "offence" (it is offense, unless you are from the UK, which I am assuming you are not), to name a few. Anyway, spelling aside, you shouldn't really be judging what people make based on whether someone thinks an app is expensive. The fact is, Omni focus happens to be very expensive. I am not saying that it is not worth it. In fact, I really don't know. I know that it is powerful, but for someone looking for a simple way to manage the important tasks in life, Omni is not for everyone, especially when you are spending upwards of $80 when something like Put Things Off (which I like a lot better) costs around $3.

  • I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?

I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?

Please always post your System details when you have a query. The upgrade to the new MobileMe calendar produces different results, and different problems, with different versions of OSX.
Snow Leopard: during the upgrade process your iCal calendars should be moved to MobileMe (this can take some time and you have to wait for it to happen). Once done, your iCal reads the calendars from MobileMe so any changes made in either place will be visible immediately. If this has not happened then this Apple Tech Note provides instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3397
Leopard: when the upgrade is completed iCal on Leopard will not be able to see the MobileMe calendars until an additional process is carried out, detailed in this Apple Tech Note:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
Tiger: iCal on Tiger cannot read the MobileMe calendars, period. The only workaround is to upgrade to Leopard, or Snow Leopard if possible (Intel Mac required).

  • ICal for iPhone. View all events as a list without having to type into the earth box.

iCal for iPhone. View all events as a list without having to type into the earth box.
On the previous software version I used to be able to view all my calendar events as a list by clicking on the magnifying glass. Now you have to type into the search dialog box for a list to populate. This is very frustrating and annoying because I much prefer the list format to populate everything unless I specify what I am looking for into the search box. Is there a way to view all the events as a list without having to type anything into the search box?

And you are aware of the possible options for listing the months and having an optional export value for each month.
For listing the months, you can use a number, a 3 character string, or the full name.
For the export value, the full name, the 3 character value, the 1-2 number, or the 0-11 JavaScript value.
I would look at deciding how you want to populate the drop down box and build a one page form with just this field. You can then insert that page into a PDF and copy the field as needed and then delete the inserted page. Or you could create an FDF file to create the drop down box.

I did switch off and on, did a sync with itunes, etc, but no luck.

RIM doesn't push the upgrades -- your service provider does so, once they have certified and approved the operating system upgrade for their devices.
But, .973 does work on the 9520 in the manner you wish it would, I've used it myself on that model.

  • ICal quit syncing on iPhone, won't switch back 'on'

My iCal calendars quit syncing with my iPhone.
When I go to iCloud Settings on the iPhone, the calendar sync switch is turned off. I turn it back on and then the Settings close instantly almost like the app is crashing. I return to the Settings and the switch for syncing calendars is still off. All the other iCloud functions seem to be working fine.
I've tried restarting the iPhone, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have a possible solution?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure it will help, but you could try force-closing the Calendar app: from the home screen, double-tap the home button, locate Calendar in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, tap the home button again.  Then for good measure restart your phone again.

  • Iphone and Ical on mac do not sync anymore. All my events are in the iphone calendar! How do I backup iphone calendar, and how do I fix the syncronizing problem?

After getting iCloud the iCal on my mac does not sync with my iPhone calendar. All of my calendar notes are in my iPhone (while the mac's Ical remains empty) so I need to backup the iphone version. How?
Itunes says that "your calendars are being syncronized with iphone using icloud" - but the mac's ical does not show any of the new events I have added on my iphone.
I would like to install the new update on my iphone, but I am afraid to do it without knowing that I will be able to restore my iphone calendar. I have made calendar events for many years to come, I and will not risk losing them!
I have been looking for tips online, but the solutions usually suggest that I backup the ical on the mac and start fresh using this version. In other words overwrite iphone calendar with the ical from the mac. Which is not an option. What can I do?

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • How to sync iPhone calendar with iCal on Mac?

When I migrated to iCloud, I lost all iCal data on my computer, but still have it on my iPhone. Any way to force iPhone calendar data onto my Mac? I have tried refreshing the calendar and turning the calendar on and off in my Mac's iCloud preferences.

Your profile indicates you are running Leopard v10.5.8.
You mac must be running Lion v10.7.2 in order to enable iCloud on your Mac.  Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
If everything is up to date and you've tried turning off Calendars and turned it back on and that didn't work, go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
