ICal on my MAC book seems to be hung up.  Msg. says "upgrading ical calendars-"

ICal on my MACBook running 10.7.5 seems to be hung up.  Appointments from my iphone sync and show up but I am not able to enter anything to iCal on my MAC or change from monthly calendar to week or day view.  The message (for days) shows PROGRESS "Upgrading iCal calendars..."  What should I do to get this working again?

Roger,
Quit iCal, paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Then open the Preferences Folder in that Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open iCal to update.

  • Running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?

I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?  There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now.  Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

  • New Mac Book, old Aperture...I have all upgrades for Aperture, but cannot find my original Ap 1 disc...am I screwed?

I have a new Mac Book Pro and tried to load Aperture on it. Cannot find the original disc but have both discs and serial numbers for 2 & 3...can I still upload?
    Thanks,
    Nick

Maybe I didn't explain..I started with Aperture 1 and then "upgraded" Aperture 2 and then 3. All of these were on the same computer and with the use of hard discs I purchased through Apple.
I now have a new computer and the update 2 & 3 discs with paperwork but Aperture 1 is long gone....I tried to load from the Aperture 2 disc but it asked for the original disc...no habbu..
    Any suggestions..

  • Mac book 15" 2.16 any chance to be upgrade to 4g?

i bought a macbook pro at march the 15" 2.16 core 2 duo the ram could get up 3g, there is any way to upgrade this computer as if it were the newest ones that ram could get up to 4 g?
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hi There!
The one thing you may want to consider is "why do I need 4GB of RAM?"
It's nice to have the latest upgrades and whistles, but truly, do you need 4GB? Is your MBP some sort of a server for you?
I have the same system as you. I have 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM and have 16 applications open at once. Unless you're doing some serious backgrounding that requires server type performance, I cannot understand the need for so much RAM on a laptop.
Are you doing a lot of high end video on your MBP, or do you use Mathmatica, or multiple instances of Photoshop at once?
I wish you luck... I have been looking into upgrading the chipset and procs on my system... But I've discovered that to do that would cost about as much as a new iMac... Forget it! All the marketing hype is frustrating, isn't it?
Just for s&it$ and giggle, you CAN upgrade that laptop, but it's costly, and you wont get any support from Apple.
    Walt.

  • Mac Book Pro runs slow after Lion 7.2 upgrade

Ever since I downloaded the Lion 10.7.2 my MBook Pro runs SLOW! Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Reinstall preferably from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Mac Book Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz, HDD upgrade

    Hello,
I would like to change the hard drive of my MacBook Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz.
I would like to go fo an SSD Drive. I checked and find out that the kingston have got a good price.
There is something that is quite annoying me though, they propose model with Serial ATA III and serial ATA II. I tought Serial ATA III was compatible with older technology. So my questions are:
Why do they propose two versions (especially when the SATA II version is more expensive) ?
Will a SATA III SSD will work in my old macbook ? any idea of the perf ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards,
    Julien

Before 2009, all SATA Macs only supported 1.5 Gbps SATA.
Starting in 2010 they started supporting higher speed SATA.
During 2009, Apple provided firmeware updates for 2009 models that didn't support higher speed SATA to support it. That said, many SATA drives offer a jumper to slow down the bus speed so older machines can support them. Until the unibody models, only the 17" MacBook Pro supported higher than 9.5mm drive heights..
If the drive in question has to be thinner, naturally it might cost more because of the shrinking of components..
Slower speed SATA drives are becoming less common, thus can become more expensive as supply is outweighed by demand.
Before you jump the SSD bandwagon, remember, there is no technology that can totally wipe the drive,  unlike with platter drives.  If your machine is sold in the future, be sure not to put any personally identifying data on it, once you switch to SSD, unless they erasing technology improves. .

  • Received Mac Book Pro 13" uncharged, is it normal?

I received my new Mac Book Pro 13" yesterday. Welcome pack says that all Apple devices are charged and ready to use... but it didn't power on. I plugged in to charge it and it could start with battery at 0%. I shutdown and it charged fully in 2 hours. Can I be calm (and happy ) or Should I go to Apple Store to change it?
    Thank you in advance.

This does seem to be the norm for newer Mac notebooks. There are many reports of brand new Mac notebooks of all models coming with no battery charge. If you do a search of these forum you will find quite a few posts on this subject. Even people that have exchanged the system found the second one they got was the same way.
Whether that is good or bad for the battery I have no idea.

  • Wireless TC failure on Mac Book Pro

Hi Guys, It seems that a few of you out there are having similar problems with TC over home networks. My problem started when I updated Leopard Yesterday (latest security update). I have my Mac Book Pro (core duo with the wireless n upgrade) connected to an Airport Extreme and Airport Express (as an extender) with a canon pinter and two Lacie 500Mb HD's connect to the Airport Extreme USB.
The network was working really well and has been fro over 6 weeks, all my i-tunes stream from the external drives etc. So yesterday TC suddenly stop backing up on wireless network, however if i connect my Mac Book Pro direct to the TC drive (one of the Lacie's is TC only) via USB, it backs up fine.
Seems really odd that until yesterday TC worked great over wireless, now nothing all I get is failed (the error says 'failed to mount drive'). The drives are visible and everything is working as far as I can see, I can even manually go in to the TC drive and open files wirelessly!
    Any ideas???
    Thank you for any advice.

    KKong wrote:
The old cable was the one supplied by Lacie and the one now being used is a thicker cable (expensive). Don't care as it now works, so check the cables first guys!
Was the cable "Shielded"?=small foil in wire to shield from leakage/interference.
    Always check your cables!!!

  • Mac Book Pro wake up after sleep status

A few days after installing the latest security update for 10.6.3, there seems to go something wrong with the mac book. After a wake up / getting out of sleep status the mac book seems not to connect to the magic mouse, so i have to manually disconnect / connect the mouse and then it works. But this morning i saw that the battery status is also not working correct. it says 98 % and the light was out on the power cable, then i disconnected and connected the cable and now the battery status says: 85 % and loading and the cable has its orange light.
Something clearly doesnt work well, so i guess i have to do the whole reset of pram/vram again and look if it will work.
But reading the boards, a lot of people having problems with it. If apple should care more about its core business and less about the ipads it would work like it should be.

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Mac book& Aperture

New Mac book seems attractive to me due size, and should be durable. Apart of missing FW 800 - would be performance enough for Aperture?

enough ... well that is very subjective ...
i will impart my experience here ...
my main machine is an old G5 ... over 3 years old ... i bought a new MacBook with 4GB of RAM - top end one ...
holy crap ... i finished a 200 image shoot while laying on the couch in less time than it takes on the G5 to import and rate ... ok, so not really that much of an extreme difference but a difference that is seriously noticeable ... i think it might be a little faster than my 17" MBP ...
i had hoped that apple would make a 12" MBP, and they kinda did with this new MB ...
do i miss the FW port, heck yeah ... but all my portable HDD are USB/FW ... no issue for me ...
now i can't wait for the next rev of the MacPro so i can get my dirty hands on one ...

  • Mac Book Pro 5.4 HD to SSD upgrade?

Hello all, I have a Mac Book Pro 5.4. I wish to upgrade to a SATA III SSD from the ATA and upgrade from 4 to 8 GB RAM. Anyone attempted this and had/see any conflicts? I researched pretty well and I don't see any yet. Maybe ATA to SATA?

You may upgrade to 8 GBs of RAM:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
However, you cannot use a SATA III 6.0 Gb/s drive. Your controller only supports SATA II 3.0 Gb/s drives. Your computer does not us ATA drives, only SATA drives. You will find excellent SSDs from OWC.
