ICal on Webdav

I just set up a published calendar using iCal and webdav.
I want other users to be able to make changes to the calendar besides the owner/author. Is this possible? How do I give permissions to other users to make changes on my calendar?
Thanks,
Andy

Other users can't make changes in this version of iCal. Still looking for a loop-hole around this problem. I can't afford to upgrade!

  • Impossible to publish iCal on Webdav Apache2

The OS X Server is set-up using Apache2 and the webdav was correclty configured as discribed in the following useful pages:
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_dav.html
    http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Apache-WebDAV-LDAP-HOWTO/
I have no problem to access the webdav folder by ftp, browser, "connect to server" or to read the content with iCal after having copied the ics fiels.
But it is impossible to publish an ical to that webdav folder.
    (Problem of authentification).
The compliance test with Litmus is ok except for the "cond_put .." which Failed.
    Client: OS X 10.4.8
    iCal: 2.0.3
    OS X Server 10.4.8
Any idea why it is impossible to publish Calendars?

    I found the solution:
It work fine using ../davlocks/DAVLock for the DAVLockDB parameter.
But the davlocks folder must have the rights to 777 (chmod -R 777 davlocks/)
    Hope this help.

  • ICal and webDAV?

Good morning group. Maybe this is not possible on OS-X Server but I presume it is?
Can I Publish web representations from iCal using my server to display a web page that is not modifiable? Are there any easy to follow instructions some where?
I would like to have a real time calendar page show up for employees to see schedules and events but not be modifiable?

    Hi,
From what I have read and observed iCal as a client app does not seemlessly work with the web group calendar service which is part of the twisted python app for the groupware.
The web group calendar can be set up and access controlled via WGM or Directory.app. All viewers of the web calendar page will be able to see events on the calendar but unless granted permission, will not be able to add or modify events on the calendar.
I have several web groups that restrict editing to only members of each group on their respective pages, but allow members of any of these groups to view the pages on all the groups. A group member can add/change an event on their group calendar but members from other groups can view the events on any group calendar.
AFAIK, there is no way to consolidate the calendars to a summary calendar display.

  • Synced WebDAV/CalDAV calendars

Does anyone know whether or not the 2.01 update fixes the problem where subscribed/synced calendars in iCal using WebDAV/CalDAV are not shown or synced with MobileMe and iPhone? I have Google calendars and work WebDAV calendars that I can't get to sync through MobileMe.

It does not appear to be supported yet on MobileMe/iCal.
There is a product called BusySync that I tried which does sync your Google Calendar(s) with iCal. It is fully editable in iCal and updates are automatically synced with Google. Best part is that it looks like a local calendar in iCal so it is also synced with MobileMe, and subsequently iPhone/iTouch, and MobileMe on Windows. BusySync is not expensive, but I am still looking for a free solution.
I wish Apple would get their act together. If they offer native CalDAV support in iCal 3.x then they should mirror that functionality in MobileMe.

  • ICal is showing phantom entries at the beginning of each month

Back in January, I added two appointments to my iCal "Home" calendar (which I share with my wife's iCal via WebDAV):
Physical Therapy on January 24 at 5:00 pm
Physical Therapy on January 31 at 3:30 pm, repeated weekly until February 21
These 5 appointments are displayed correctly on the January and February month views.
But beginning in February, iCal goes crazy, showing phantom appointments:
The January 25 appointment is displayed on the first Sunday in the February view (January 29).
All 5 appointments are displayed in the first Sunday in the March view (February 25) and the first Sunday of every subsequent month.
In my wife's iCal, the January 25 appointment is displayed on the rst Sunday in the February view (January 29) and every subsequent month.
    Printing is even worse:
When I print the March view from my iCal, it shows all 5 appointments on every single day.
When my wife prints the March view from her iCal, it shows the January 25 appointment on every single day.
I suspect one fix to this problem would be to simply delete the two appointments on January 24 and 31.  However, I'd like to retain these entries for queries months from now (e.g., "When did I go to physical therapy.").

    Hi,
Have you tried re-creating the events and deleting the originals?

  • Publish list of iCal events...

    Hi.
If managed to succefully publish an iCal via WebDav, which is working fantastic...
However I also need too be able to publish a list of the events in the calendar on a website or something, so that non iCal-users can see the list online...
I know .mac is a possible sollution, but will this allow "visitors" to see all events nomatter how many there are in a month?
The thing is, I'm a musician, and I need a way to publish all my gigs in one list, without the visitor having to "click for more events" and so on... just a plain n' simple scroll-able list...
Is this possible - and if so, how ?
And are there any solutions which will work without .mac?
    Thanks,
    Lars

I imagine what you want to do wouldn't be too hard but I haven't seen the solution. In iCal, the best you can do is display a month at a time, and then click through each month.
You could also print PDFs and pull data from those but that wouldn't be very easy to maintain. You could also search for solutions here: http://guide.apple.com/index.lasso
Search for "iCal Publish" yields 11 results but they all look more involved that I would want to get.
I'd try the .Mac solution. You can get a trial account, and you might even find the new .Mac groups to your liking. And I suspect it is the only iCal solution that will keep your website up-to-date automatically.

  • Trouble with WebDAV and One Client

We publish our ical calendars to a WebDAV folder on our Xserve. So I set the owner of the directory "ical" to www and the group to www. I then set up a realm called "ical" with prufrockstaff (a group with certain user accounts) as the assigned group (Can Browse and Can Author).
However, one of my staff (a member of prufrockstaff) keeps failing to authenticate "Authenticating using checkpw failed, trying legacy method" then failure to publish in ical (Actually, she can publish a new calendar on a first attempt, but all other Refresh attempts fail to authenticate). All other staff (members of prufrockstaff) can publish their calendars fine.
As an experiment, I published a calender using this staff member's account name and password from my client machine and everything worked fine.
It seems to be related to something on the client machine. All other authentication from that machine using the account name and password works find (webmail, file services, etc.).
Any ideas where to start trouble shooting?

The trouble was unrelated to web services.
It turned out to be a problem was with the account name/passwords saved in the user's keychain for iCal and WebDAV.
I deleted all of the user's keychains for iCal and WevDAV, republished the calendars from the user's account, and everything works perfectly.

  • How do I run iCal 1.5 on an intel mac or fix iCal 2.0 webdav publishing?

I've been using iCal 1.5 (any version, 1.5.2, 1.5.5, etc) to publish to a zope server using webdav for a few years now. I just bought a new Mac Pro, and discovered that while iCal 2.0 still publishes using webdav, the zope server is no longer able to recognize the .ics file. (it still can perfectly with any .ics published via iCal 1.5)
If I export an iCal 2.0 calendar as an .ics file to my desktop and then manually ftp that up, the server recognizes that, so the problem lies somewhere in 2.0's webdav publishing process.
So, in short - is there a way to run iCal 1.5 on an intel mac, or to edit how iCal 2.0 publishes via webdav?
Any ideas at all would be welcome.

    Hi DaddyPaycheck,
    Thanks for your helpful reply.
However, I'm still wondering if the SMC reset includes all other possible resets like PRAM and NVRAM or should I still try the option + command + P + R ? In other words, is it the ultimate complete reset you can do on an Intel Mac ?
It is just to know it the right way, because since the last SMC reset I described everything is stable and fast without any trouble whatsoever, so I prefer to leave things unaltered and be sure about the procedure when needed.
    Thanks in advance for replying,
    Beliarus

  • Publish iCal to OS X Server 10.3.9 with WebDAV enabled--not working

I've published iCal calendars to other servers with WebDAV enabled, but so far have not been able to publish to OS X 10.3.9 server with WebDAV enabled.
Error message is: Calendar could not be published. This access has been forbidden by server.
I'm using an administrative username and password to eliminate any question about access to specific directories, I've ensured that the site is WebDAV enabled using the OS X Server Admin gui (so, web/sites/domain name/ editing section, under Options). I've been unable to find any more detailed instructions on publishing to OS X server. Any suggestions, webpage tutorials, etc., greatly appreciated.
FWIW, I suspect the folder location for where the .ics file would go on the server may be the issue. The web content is in Library/WebServer/foldername and this is where I put the calendar folder.

    Hi Jovan
I don’t think its a problem with 10.3 server as such. You’ve got to remember that 10.3 is getting on a bit. As far as supporting the latest drive sizes Apple as well as other interested parties would devote their energies in supporting the latest operating systems. For example Microsoft have recently released Vista. Most interested parties will get on board the Vista bandwagon and start developing and writing drivers and software for that rather than XP. After a while you will start to see less and less being developed for the older operating system. I think this is just one of those times.

why don't you look at these two links:
    http://www.busymac.com
    http://www.spanningsync.com
i use spanning sync to sync ical on two macs with google calendar. works quite well and i can access/manage my calendars on either my mcas or on the web. busysync from busymac will achieve the same thing.

  • Leopard ICAL (10.5) not publishing to webdav

I have 6 computers each which publishes a calendar and we all subscribe to each other using a WEBDAV server on my website. I upgraded all computers to leopard this weekend and our main calendar will NOT update. I unpublished the calendar and tried to publish again, it sends the entire calendar to the website, but then puts up an error message that I need to check my login and password info. Which work on all other computers and for my other subscriptions.
    Is this a bug?
All the other computers ical works fine.

I upgraded my MBP and Dual G5 to Leopard and, of course, my WebDav server stopped working on the G5. I edited the httpd.conf file in /private/etc/apache2/ and it all started working again. The /Library/WebServer/DAVLock and /Documents folders had been correctly imported during the Leopard upgrade so all I did was:
    cd /Library/Webserver/Documents
    chown www:www DAVdocs
    chown www:www ../DAVLock
then added the following code to httpd.conf just before the code
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents">
    # Settings for WebDAV Server
    DAVLockDB /Library/WebServer/DAVLock/DAVLock
    DAVMinTimeout 600
    DAVDepthInfinity On
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/DAVdocs">
    DAV On
    AllowOverride AuthConfig
    AuthName "DAV Restricted"
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile /Library/WebServer/users
<Limit PUT POST DELETE PROPFIND PROPPATCH MKCOL COPY MOVE LOCK UNLOCK>
    Require valid-user
    </Limit>
    </Directory>

  • How to publish a calendar to webdav (ical) server

I have a Xserve running ical server, but when a user tries to publish a personal calendar on their desktop to the webdav service on the Xserve, it's prompting for a directory path.
What directory we put there? Everything we've tried doesn't work.

There is a difference between sharing and publishing. The latter means getting your calendar to display as an ordinary web page: firstly this cannot be done with a calendar listed under iCloud (this was also true with MobileMe) but only if it's listed under 'On My Mac'. The facility is still available in iCal for such calendars, but the problem is that it has to be published to a CalDav server because MobileMe, which used to take the published files and turn it into a web page, is not longer available. It's assumed in the Help that you are going to be running such a server yourself, which obviously requires a fair standard of technical knowledge. It's been claimed that Box.net can do this but I've seen complaints that it doesn't work.
Sharing, which you can do with iCloud calendars, makes the calendars available for others to subscribe to in a CalDAV client - iCal itself is such a client, and you can also do this with Google calendar - this does require the recipient to have a Google account. The process with iCloud is described in this page and the pages following:
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a8694
BusyCal has various sharing options and there is a full user guide available here:

  • TS4337 How can I change the password of a WebDAV calendar subscription in iCal?

I have 2 WebDAV calendars shown in my iCal, and my password on the WebDAV server has been changed.
Even though iCal noticed the change and asks for the new password, when I enter it, it is still sending the old one. (I checked it on the server in the logs.)

  • Apple WebDav Ical.. Does Apple have to be so pathetic?

You know, I migrated from multiple Windows and Linux based systems to MacBookPro's, Iphones, Ipad, etc. There are the things about Apple that
annoy us, but nothing could be more annoying than Apple finally coming up to
standard with ical WebDav support, THEN RESTRICTING CALENDAR SHARING TO only OTHER ACCOUNTS IN MOBILEME! It is pathetic. My wife has a Droid2. She can not see my calendar. She was able to before using a 3rd party product that worked fine.
So it appears it is time to dump MobileMe at $99/year, and use Google sync services. I can sync all my ical's with Google calendar, and there is no problem.
Yes, you can share with [email protected], but not [email protected].. Apple, you so suck!
I believe it is time to migrate to Android based tablets, Android phones, and Windows 7 on a free hypervisor like XEN, running centos linux, gives me the same as I have now.. except it is VMWARE on Mac OS X 10.6 and Win 7 as a client.
Apple is losing market share on iphones, and losing market share on tablets.
I have an Ipad v1, and instead of going for an IPad2 that still can't run FLASH, I think the Galaxy is looking pretty slick. Yes, I know... If you want it to "Just work" go Apple. But at some point, it just becomes to much of a price to pay. Hardware is always lagging, from processors to memory. I really have had enough. Now to ween my family off Apple... Well I weened them on... I really have a dislike for Google, so it pains me to have to leave Apple because of their greedy stupidity.
Sorry my wife don't like apple products. She should still be able to see my calendar. Not on MOBILEME. Yea, I could run my own caldav server, but that is not the point. Apple is restricting this because they are looking at revenue. Sadly, they are losing loyal customers. Just picked up the latest HTC Incredible for free from VZN. Slick!

Nerowolfe, thanks. I think that gets me on the right path. 2 more questions, though.
I assume as a non-techie I should use the default "Update" install. Is there any reason to consider the others?
If I clone every week instead of back up and always save the last three clones will I be OK if my computer goes into a coma? i.e. If I take my computer with a bad drive (or a new computer if the old is terminal) and my USB drive with the recent clones on it to a Mac geek he/she can restore my data?
    Thanks for your help.
    Geoff
If you have a full backup the Upgrade is fine. If you have any problems then go to the second option, Archive and install. As long as you have your original system backed up, have no fear
If you do not plan to use TM, then a clone when you need a new one is fine. I would suggest using two separate partitions or external drives so that you always have one clone extra just incase you create a clone and something happens (yes, stuff does happen ).
On my PC I use Ghost and always alternate backups. I never directly overwrite the last backup with the new one. Yes, I am a belt and suspenders person; but then I have had little problems with Leopard and even Vista 64-bit Ultimate on this same MBP. Attention to details is the key. That, and choosing wisely

  • How To: Setup WebDAV and Apache2 for Private iCal Publishing

    Notes:
This tutorial will not cover the installation of Apache2 or the required modules.
These paths apply to Ubuntu Server, but should work with many Linux distros.
There are other ways to configure your DAV directory. I have chosen to use a sub domain.
For simplicity, I am using Basic HTTP Auth. *THIS IS NOT SECURE!!!* Do not rely on Basic HTTP Auth for true security. For more details: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_dav.html#page-header
The following commands assume that you will be using sudo or logged in as root.
    1. Enable mod_dav and moddavfs: *a2enmod dav_fs*
    2. Create a directory for your DAV: *mkdir /var/www/dav*
    3. Create a sub domain site: *vim /etc/apache2/sites-available/dav*
    4. Enter the following:
    NameVirtualHost *
    <VirtualHost *>
    DocumentRoot /var/www/dav
    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
    ServerName dav.yourdomain.com
    </VirtualHost>
    DavLockDB /usr/local/apache2/var/DavLock
    <Location />
    Dav On
    Order Deny,Allow
    AuthType Basic
    AuthName "DAV"
    AuthUserFile /var/www/user.passwd
    Require valid-user
    </Location>
    5. Create the user.passwd file:
    *cd /var/www/*
    *htpasswd -c user.passwd*
+Enter username and password when prompted+
    6. Reload Apache's config: */etc/init.d/apache2 reload*
You can now publish your calendars to: dav.yourdomain.com.
    Enjoy!
