ICal One-Way Sync? (iPhone to Mac)

So, the other day my mother accidentally erased all of her events in iCal on her Mac. She still had them all on her iPhone, so she tried to sync it with her Mac to undo the deletions. But it did the opposite; all of her events were lost on her phone. Luckily, I was able to restore her back-up onto her iPhone. So I need to know if there is a way to sync the events (one-way) from the phone onto the Mac.
Thanks!

Thanks, Allan.
I am not sure if I will follow your advice, however. While you're probably right and it should be a true sync, what I was trying to say was that in my case (and apparently Berit's as well) it simply isn't.
Which means that apart from the fact that we will probably have to clean out our adress books and calendars again after a reset and sync. I've done that three times already and believe me, it's a major pain. Plus, there is also a chance it won't work afterwards.
I was actually hoping for there to be some workaround solution like a one-way sync. And I'm not happy with Apple's tendency to prevent such workarounds wherever they can. I understand they want to profit from their awesome products but wherever anything doesn't work they're starting to lose their user friendliness along the way. Which still, to me, is their selling point number one, notwithstanding the really great design.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do right now.
But thanks again for your time. I'll keep posting what happens.
Best,
Martin

  • One way sync, iPhone/iMac/MBP

I have an iCloud sync problem on my devices. When I make an appointment in iCal on my computer, either my iMac or my Mac Book Pro, it shows up on the computers but NOT on my iPhone.
When I make an appointment in iCal on my iPhone it shows up on my computers????? There's only one way sync...........
    Any help?
    Regards

    Welcome to the discussions,
See this article about syncing and merging data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
The main thing is, you can only sync to one itunes library at a time. If you want to sync to more than one computer, you'll have to manually manage your media content to avoid getting it deleted when you connect to another computer.

  • One-Way Sync iPhone with iTunes?

I Posted this question a while back:
    Hello...
On several occasions I have managed to delete content on my iPhone using sync in iTunes, and I somehow find iTunes not very intuitive and logical on the matter of syncing.
My basic question is of there is a way to force a one-way sync, or "Just transfer crap to my phone but don't even dare touch the content on there or I will un-install you!"...
I have a total of 3 computers which I use my iPhone with.
    - Work: at my work I generally use to sync my calendars ect. so I always have my work calendar on me,
    - Home Workstation: this I use to manage the music on my iPhone primarily.
    - Home Laptop: this I use for verious stuff.
What computer should be allowed to do what? (R-Read, W-Write, D-Delete)
    - Music: Work - RW , Home WS - RWD, Home Laptop - RW
    - Calendar: Work - RWD , Home WS - RW, Home Laptop - RW
    - Apps: Work - RW , Home WS - RWD, Home Laptop - RW
And so on, so as you can se, I would like to ONLY let my workstation at work delete stuff in my calendar, it may add stuff or read stuff of any kind, but NEVER delete it.
    And so forth...
Is there anyway of adding such restrictions?...
    And i got this answer:
    Welcome to the discussions,
See this article about syncing and merging data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
The main thing is, you can only sync to one itunes library at a time. If you want to sync to more than one computer, you'll have to manually manage your media content to avoid getting it deleted when you connect to another computer.

Thats all very well, but... no...
    Going to: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
And attempting to follow the instructions there, well fails because what happens in step 5 when clicking apply, is the dialog that ask if i wan't to erase and re-sync. That means i can't even Enable Manually management of videos and music without erasing the content on my phone?...

See if this cnet video gives you any help. The best you can do is trick itunes into thinking it is syncing to the same library database file on all PCs.
    http://cnettv.cnet.com/sync-your-ipod-two-computers/9742-1_53-50004835.html
You will have to pay careful attention to how itunes preferences are set on each PC.
The thing was designed to sync with one PC, really. This apple article pretty much states it will get corrupted if you try to use multiple PCs repeatedly:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1474
and advises using a 3rd-party solution to do it. The cnet video I linked also has mentions of 3rd-party programs htat will do what you want.

  • Ical one way sync??

    PHONE - 4S RUNNING IOS7
COMPUTER - IMAC RUNNING OS X Lion 10.7.5
I am getting very angry with iCal!  All my calenders are clouded and sync to my phone EXCEPT FOR ONE.  On this calender, I can create a new event on my mac and it will sync directly with iCloud but not on my phone.  If I create an events on this calender on my phone it will sync with iCloud and my iMac.  Question is... how do i get event I create on my computer to sync to my iPhone?!!!  I have refreshed all calenders, checked my settings, clouded all calenders, restarted my phone, EVERYTHING!
Event on iMac to cloud --------------------WORKS
Event on iPhone to cloud -----------------WORKS
Event on cloud to iMac and iPhone ---WORKS
Event on iMac to phone------------------- DOES NOT WORK!!!!!

It is not possible to do this with iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit, but unidirectional data transfer from iCal [for calendars and tasks or to data] and the Address Book [for contacts] is available to users of the Missing Sync for Palm OS. Such a procedure is, in fact, the recommened first step when transitioning from iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit to the three Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks conduits. Although most users opt for bidirectional synchronizations subsequently, it is possible to configure any or all of these three conduits to remain in the 'desktop overwrites handheld' mode.

  • Mac One-Way Sync

Is it possible to do a one-way sync between my BB Tour and Mac iCal?  How?  Thanks.

    Hello jjlangdon,
Yes, you can do a one way sync from your Mac to overwrite your BlackBerry data.
In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, under the Calendar settings you will see an "Advanced Settings" at the bottom. When you expand this section, you can chose the date range of appointments to sync as well as there is a box to check off to say "Replace all calendar events on this BlackBerry device."

  • I can't seem to update icloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar. Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...

Pardon my ignorance. I have scoured the forums and no one seem to touch on the exact subject I am talking about.
I can't seem to update iCloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar with all connectivity turned on (sync, push, pull, slap whatsoever).
Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud (sluggishly and not due to connection problem, so i'd nice to have a status bar telling me whether or not it's active and doing some updating) so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...
    Simplified version:
-Events created on the iphone doesnt get on icloud.
-When iphone is synced with ical on mac and changes are made on Mac, changes are not immediately reflected on iphone unless clicked "sync"
-I just want to view a live ical at all times without going to safari and opening up the web iCal. I want to view a 100% live iCal on the native iCal via iPhone. Like google docs! Is that too much to ask!?
Iphone seemed to have a "push" or "sync in this many minutes" option for iCal, but that seemed like it's only receiving changes, and not send out changes made via phone. Very confusing, very annoying!

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page. Then run the update with iTunes closed.

We are deploying IPhone model 4s in our organization and we want to have a Global addressbook. I have setup with Google using Gmail and accessing the contacts however this provides a two-way sync. I need the setup to be a one-way sync from Google to IPhone only!
    HELP

I use the same id and password as I want them all in the same place.  I have tried other solutions offered here like turning off contact, saving to the phone and turning them back on and merging.  still no contacts go to icloud.

  • One-Way Sync?

Is it possible to just sync one way? Here's my situation: My phone, for whatever reason, doesn't read annual events and it doesn't like certain contacts, so when I use iSync it wants to delete those items on my iCal and alter things on my Address Book on my iMac. I have my iSync preferences set to let me know before it makes any changes on the computer. It shows me all the changes it wants to make, but doesn't allow me to deny them individually. Is there a way to do that or is there a way to perform a one-way sync just to my phone? Thanks!

iSync always works in both directions, except on the first sync. So, in theory, you could choose *Reset Device...* from the Devices menu everytime you want to sync it. This will force iSync to re-send all data afresh from the Mac. However, that is not syncing, as new data on the phone will not transfer back, until the next sync.
Which phone do you have? If you mentioned this, maybe someone could help solve the syncing issues you're having with it.

  • I cant access control on syncing iphone with mac air to get contact via outlook to change on phone

I cant access control on syncing iphone with mac air to get contacts via outlook to change on phone. Worked fine on old itunes.

Hi Steve, Thanks for that. When I conect the phone it comes up with iphoto and starts to sync and then when that is finnished the itunes window shows my phone syncing at the top of the screen. The only button that says iphone which is on top right only asks if I want to eject and then disapears when sync finnishes. I can not see any other way of showing a side bar view and i can not access any way of controling the sycn service. It seems to be syncing calander but not my contacts. Have I missed something?

  • One Way Sync - OCS to PDA only

Was wondering how I can accomplish one way sync to "PDA only" so that users cannot overwrite calendar on server.

    (1) Setting the replace all existing will wipe out my entire calendar of the phone and replace it with what is in Outlook.
    Correct.
    (2) By selecting "syncing" calendar events, will sync the events between Outlook and the iPhone.
    Correct.
What happens about the events I have placed onto the phone (after that initial sync)? Won't they get synced to Outlook?
Yes, which is the definition of syncing.
I want the sync to always be one-way...only from Outlook to the iPhone.
Not possible. If this is what you want, then don't sync calendar events or only enter calendar events with Outlook.
Contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks (if selected to be synced with the supported applications on your computer) is a bidirectional or true sync process with the supported applications on your computer. There is no setting to transfer calendar events from the iPhone to the supported application on your computer only or vice-versa or to not be synchronized.

  • One-Way sync from Palm to iBook?

Wiped my address book with a crashed sync, but the data remains on my Palm device (Treo 650). Anyone know how to setup a one-way sync from the Treo back into the iBook? Thanks, M

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You should first try to correct the problem by dragging the AddressBook.data file out of your Address Book folder at the end of this path:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Application Support:Address Book
Duplicate the AddressBook.data.previous file, and rename it simple AddressBook.data and launch the application to see if it can recover your files.
If not, you should understand that there is no easy, quick, painless way to achieve what you want - moving a copy of your handheld data to your Macintosh.
You can restore synchronization to the Palm Desktop, by moving the Apple conduit out of the active Conduits folder, and by moving the following disabled Palm conduits out of the Disabled Conduits folder and back into the active one:
    • Address Conduit
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
    • Datebook Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit
    • ToDo Conduit
(Only one of each conduit pair is used by your Treo 650, but these instructions would also apply to users of the older conduits.)
By setting each conduit to Handheld overwrites Macintosh, you will transfer the data on your smartphone to the Palm Desktop, overwriting any existing records by doing so.
You can then export contact data as a vCard file and calendaring data as a vCal file but, here's a problem: you cannot export task or to do data, so in this process, you will lose all of the to do items in iCal. Once you have exported the Palm Desktop data in vCard and vCal format, you can import the contents of each file into the Address Book and iCal, remembering that your vCal file contains only event—and not to do—data.
You can then return the Palm conduits to the Disabled Conduits folder and the iSync Palm Conduit to the active one, and synchronize once again with iSync, choosing to overwrite the contents of your handheld with the data from the Address Book and iCal. Once again, say goodbye to your to do records. You do this by removing your device from iSync and adding it back prior to the next synchronization, causing the framework to act as if you have never synchronized before. Choose Replace (and not Merge) to avoid data duplication errors.
Do you see why periodically backing up Address Book and iCal data is so important? To do so, just select the Back up Address Book in the Address Book or the Back up Database option in iCal.

  • HT1535 How do I do a one-way sync from computer to I-pad? Outlook Contacts only.  It has already been synced and there is bad info on I-pad that I don't want on my computer.

How do I do a one way sync from contacts in computer (Outlook), to contacts on I pad (also for I-phone)?  Contacts on I-Pad are incorrect and I do not want to add them back to my computer?
Alternatively, is there any way to delete contact groups all at once instead of one contact at a time?
    Thank you in advance...

    1. Create a new Profile.

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
    2. Then use that new Profile when you connect to Sync on the old laptop.

  • HT1848 Is it possible to do a one-way sync?

We have several iPads that we loan out. When they are returned, I would like an easy way to quickly remove any apps they have installed and take the iPad back to our standard configuration.  Currently, when I sync, everything on the iPad is transferred to our MacBook iTunes account. Then when we go to sync the next iPad, the apps on iPad one get dumped onto iPad two.
Is there a way to do a one-way sync?  Where I can tell iTunes to push our 'basic' apps and delete any apps on the iPad not currently in iTunes?

No, but it's possible to stitch the frames together after the merge, then reflow.  See Adobe Community: Multiple record data merge into paragraph styles-applies the wrong style

  • One way sync from Outlook Express gets Unable to read application data error

I have a BB Flip, 8220, and am trying to use Outlook Express as my Contacts organizer.  I have started Outlook express "vanilla" and only have one records in Outlook Express.  I have 34 records in my BB Contacts.  When I run synchronize (and again, I am trying to do this one way, from Express to BB) I get the error "Unable to read application data", "Processing Device Address Book", "Record 34 of 34 Records".
I have read many of the threads.  I have checked the RIM.log file and it says one way sync.  Any clues on how to fix this?  I am on Desktop 4.6, do I need to upgrade to 4.7?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well I fixed the problem.  What I did was run a Backup using the desktop mgr software, I then ran a restore, but I used the Advanced option so that I could open the ipd backup file and then select just the contacts database and push that from my computer to the device (using the right arrow copy button in the middle of the Advanced window thingy).  I then reran the Sync and it WORKED!
Doing the backup and restore must have fixed the corrupted record on my phone.  Wonderful.  I was nervous, but it worked jst fine.

  • One way sync / transfer

I sync my iPad 2 with a winXP laptop that has little room left on the hard drive.
I am transferring video movies using iTunes. I have done one so far but will need to remove the movie file from the laptop before adding another.
If I remove the movie from the iTunes movie library and add another then sync my iPad, will I lose the first one?
I guess what I'm asking is there a way to one way sync (transfer) in iTunes?
    Thanks in advance,
