ICal popup on opening up

I would like the current iCal day notes to pop up on my screen when I open up. Presently I have to open up ICal from my dock, but
would prefer an instant automatic reminder, so I wont forget to open it.
Is this possible? Thanks Ellis

Have found the simple solution - just hold down the mouse over the iCal in my dock, and the option appears 'Open at Login", and it works perfectly.

ical will not open. it crashes immediately. at first, it would open a blank calendar window, spin for a minute and then crash. now it just crashes immediately. i tried updating; but it didn't need it. i tried taking ical app from another mac in the house over a network connection, no luck. i ried reinstalling from os x disk with optionals install of just apps; no luck. i put the library/application support/ical folder in the trash, no luck; i put it back were it was. i don't know where to turn.

Look what I just found on .Mac discussions; I think this is not coincidence:
UPDATE: As of 10/25/07 5 PM PDT, the .Mac Sync maintenance is still in progress. We thank you for your patience as we work to restore service ASAP.
Due to scheduled maintenance of the .Mac Sync service beginning on October 19, 2007, members are unable to sync Safari Bookmarks or Mac OS X Address Book contacts to the www.mac.com website. We apologize for any inconvenience. Normal service will be restored ASAP. Read more for interim solutions.
Due to scheduled maintenance of the .Mac Sync service beginning on October 19, 2007, you may receive a dialogue asking "What would you like to do for this first sync?"
If you have received this dialogue, and have not recently reset your data on .Mac or registered your computer for syncing with .Mac, you can safely select to Merge data on your computer and .Mac. You may have to perform this step once on each computer that is syncing with .Mac.

  • How can I make iCal in Lion open to the current date?

I just updated from Snow Leopard to Lion and have had all of the frustrations with changes to iCal that are well-documented here and elsewhere.  One issue I haven't seen addressed, however, is a new behavior after quitting and re-starting.
Previously, no matter what month/day/week I was viewing when I quit iCal, it would open the next time to the current (month/day/week).  Now, it opens to whatever date(s) I was last viewing when I quit.
This is highly annoying - 99% of the time, if I quit iCal while looking at (some date 6 months into the future), that is NOT the date I'm looking for when I re-launch.  It's much more consistent behavior to always re-open to the current date, in whatever view (month/day/week) I previously used.  So if today I launch iCal and I'm thinking about adding an event a month in the future, I open iCal, change to month view if needed, and go forward one month.  This is the way iCal always worked previously.  Instead, the version in Lion might leave me on any random month, depending on what I was doing when I closed the program the last time, and so I have to figure out "what month/week am I looking at?" before I know how to navigate.  Very irritating.  (As is the move of the forward/back buttons away from the month/day/week buttons, necessitating that I move the cursor to two different areas of the screen in order to navigate.  Whose idea was THAT?)
I haven't found a preference to resolve this bizarre behavior change.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
I don't know of a preference, but have you used ⌘-T in iCal?
    Best wishes

    Shiv,
Have you installed any new Software/Spyware/Virus Scanner etc.Check it out.It might have caused the issue for last 5 days.
This issue is fixed in Latest Support Package Versions.
Which Version of Support Package you are using?
If EP6 <SP19 you will face this issue.
Just upgrade it to EP6, Support Pack-19,this will be resolved.
Upgrade of Support Pack wont take much time.you can get the document under http://service.sap.com/instguides

  • How do I block a popup window that I have allowed to open on Firefox once? I now have the popup blocker set to block all sites, but the popup still opens every time I open Firefox or open (sometimes) a new tab.

How do I block a popup? I allowed this popup to open once. Now I have set the popup blocker to block all sites but this popup still opens every time I open Firefox and sometimes (usually) when I open a new tab.
I Have stopped and restarted Firefox multiple times.
    I have rebooted the computer.
I have set the tools/options/content/block pop-up windows/exceptions to block all sites (no exceptions).
I have no other issues with Firefox.
I have Adblock plus (with (1) subscription) installed
I am currently using Firefox version 4.0 on Windows7 Ultimate.

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
    (1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    (2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    (3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
    (4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Hopefully that cures it.

  • I click a link but it doesn't open. Instead I get a popup saying "Open the link in a new window," "Open link in a new tab," etc. How can I kill this popup or whatever it is forever?

I click a link but it doesn’t open. Instead I get a popup saying “Open the link in a new window,” “Open link in a new tab,” etc. How can I kill this popup or whatever it is forever?

That happens if the server sends the file as text/plain.
You can see this if you open "Tools > Page Info > General": Content-Type: text/plain
Files send this way will always open in a tab.

  • Access Keys not blocked when popup is open

    Hi,
We are using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 and we have the requirement to add access keys on specific buttons in our application.
When a popup is open the background page is disabled and the user cannot click on buttons outside the popup.
If however a button in the background has an access key and the user uses it, the action gets executed.
Is this a bug? does anyone know of a workaround in order to block the access keys in the background when a popup is open?
    Gabriel.

    Hi,
We got an answer from Oracle support... not the one we were hoping for though:
"the Development team confirming that _the issue is not a defect_. We have an Enhancement Request 10170506 logged for the issue to be _considered_ by Development in the future releases......."
The access keys functionality is a high priority for our clients and this is going to be a serious issue for us.

  • Possible bug while a popup is open

I noticed a strange behavior for popup windows in CVI 2009: when a popup is open, and I click on a button on the caller panel (that I think should be completely inacitve) the EVENT_LEFT_CLICK_UP is generated.
I attached a simple application to show this behavior: in the textbox I append every event generated for the "Click" button. Before opening the popup you can see a lot of events (EVENT_MOUSE_POINTER_MOVE, EVENT_LEFT_CLICK, ...) when you click on this button.
If you click on "Open" a popup is opened; if you click on the "Click" button while the popup is open you will see that the EVENT_LEFT_CLICK_UP is generated.
Could you confirm this is a bug?
The same behaviour is shown for MessagePopup( ), ConfirmPopup( ) and InstallPopup( ).

    Hi Vix,
    Thank you for your posting.
I tested your example project and seen that you seem to be right.
The event EVENT_LEFT_CLICK_UP should not happen when a Modal dialog box is opened.
Now I'm sending a request to R&D in order to let them verify and take the right actions.
I'll let you know if they tell me that this is not a bug but a somehow expected behaviour.
    Thanks again

  • ICal won't open at all.

I quit iCal and shut down on Oct. 2 @ 7:20 am. Powered up and iCal failed to open on boot as usual. Clicked on iCal in dock, icon bounced once then dead. In Finder/apps, iCal has a red negative sign on the folder.
    Wha's up?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
The do not enter sign on the iCal Application usually indicates the program is damaged (this can happen for a variety of reasons, but force quitting is one I see every now and then on the boards).
You can try downloading and installing the last OS update which includes the iCal update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
If the do not enter sign is still there, remove iCal to the trash from the Applications folder and then reinstall it following this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3415
Once reinstalled you will need to install the Combo update again http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048.
    Hope that helps.

  • Ical crashes on opening

iCal crashes within 1/2 second of opening --every time. Using new iMac dual core 17" desktop model. Using OS 10.4.latest (all Mac software is up to date)
This is new computer. When I used Firewire app to transfer files from old G3 iMac many calendar files were duplicated three times over. I think I already solved that problem but just a week later--
Problem began when someone sent me a Google calendar invitation.
tried opening as alternate user and iCal worked.
Returning to my own user account, I tried the following posted solutions without success:
    1) move all relevant .plist files to trash
    2) move user/Library/calendar files to desktop and move one back into place at a time. iCal crashed regardless.
    3) moved corestorage.ics files from user/library/application support/iCal/Sources/folders to desktop one at a time and iCal crashed upon opening, regardless.
Even though iCal crashes upon opening, I am still receiving precioiusly posted alarms.

    Hi,
I think your problem is to do with the calendar data, and that you have a corruption in multiple calendars. Try the last two suggestions in my post here (which is slightly different to the advice I gave in the other thread you posted to):

  • ICal crashes while opening

I've read all the other posts about iCal crashing when opened and none of the fixes have worked for me. HelvelticaNeue.dfont is in the right place, moving the plist file had no effect, all of my software is up to date, iCal doesn't even open so I can't select preferences or anything like that. I'm in the process of backing up all my files so that I can reinstall the operating system but that idea makes me nervous because I run my business from this computer and I can't afford to loose anything.
When iCal stopped working I had earlier encountered a problem with my trash and applications folder. The trash was "mirroring" the contents of my application folder and I deleted half of my apps. I copied the deleted apps from my external hard drive to my computer and everything is working fine except iCal which was NOT one of the apps that was deleted. However a utility or library file may have been affected. Also, my Palm smartphone will not sync which I suspect is a related issue.
One thing to note is that the alarms I had previously scheduled do pop on time.
I'm going mental without my schedule. I need a solution ASAP!

I see a similar post from July 30, 2007. "iCal quits at the instant when an alarm is supposed to sound"
We have the same problem with one of our laptops at school. We are all using iCal this year, some on eMacs some on laptops. One of our teachers uses iCal extensively and her alarms trigger iCal to crash every time. We followed all the ideas on the forum including reloading iCal through OS Reinstall but her iCal still crashes. iCal ran seamlessly on her eMac(PowerPC) but it crashes every time on her MacBook(Intel-based).
Does anyone know if the code for the alarms is handled differently by the different processors?

  • When iCal is not open cant see event

pleasee help i am going to school and i really need it so i can see the events when iCal is not open pleazz someone help me

    Tamara,
I'm not really sure what you want to do. Why can't iCal be open? What can be?
You could get MenuCalendarClock which sits in the menu bar: http://www.objectpark.net/mcc.html
Or ical viewer will put events on your desktop: http://www.icalviewer.com/
Comeback with more details if this doesn't do the trick.

  • Access the main panel when a message popup is open

    Hi,
I would apprecaite if someone can help me out with my current problem. Basically  i am trying to access my main panel when a messege popup is open...say i choose a file to save my data from the user panel.....after i select the fiel.....a messege pops up saying file selected or something....but i dont want to make the user press the ok button before he can do anything else on the main UAP.....is there a way i can have the popup be there but yet hv access to the stuff on the main window and later the user can press ok....basically thats popup is just t notify the user..
    Hope to hear from someone.
    Thanks

You cannot do it with popup panels: a popup is intrinsically a modal window, that is user input is confined to this window and the operator cannot access other panels in your applicatin until the popup is closed.
You need to create a panel to display your messages and setup it as a "floating" panel: floating style is one of the additiona attributes of the panels, located in the same dialogue into which you specify if the panel is sizable, movable... A floating panel remains on top of other panels of the application but the user can operate on those other panels while the floating one is displayed (you'll need to show it with DisplayPanel instead of InstallPopup).
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • OSX 10.5.1 - Mail shuts down - iCal won't open

I installed 10.5.1 last night and can't check my eMail or iCal anymore. I opened Mail, then iCal. When iCal opens, it shuts down both. Now, when I open Mail alone, it shuts down 5 seconds later, without getting new mail. If I open iCal alone, iCal starts to open, then shuts down. You never see a calendar. Can I uninstall 10.5.1?

SOLUTION! After trying everything I could think of, I downloaded the 10.5.1 update directly from apple.com then RE-updated my mac. (I'd previously used Software Updater.) After the restart, I have my mail and ical back! Yippee. Apple computers rock, but these pimples take hours and joy from my life. Apple - you stink (for now). What a way to spend Thanksgiving.

  • ICal won't open after downgrade.

I had updated to 10.5 this year (because of new software). Meanwhile my iMac (G5) has gone to a repair service, and I was given a G4 as a loan until my iMac is fixed (if this ever happens). Because I couldn't run my new CS4 software on the G4, I had to downgrade to 10.4.11 to use my old software (Classic Version).
This said, I have encountered following problems: my iCal will not open up at all. I cannot find it in the »former user« files to maybe open it up from there. iCal is in the current application files — and will neither open up from there nor from its desktop icon.
What can I do to solve this issue? My iMac repair is taking longer than I expected.
    Thanks.

how exactly did you copy user info? did you copy the entire home directory? very often problems with various applications stem from bad and preference files. those live in various places in the library folder in your home directory. that's why I'm asking. one way to test this is to create an new user and see if the problems you are having persist there.
