ICal publishing and privacy

is it just me, or is there something deficient about the whole 'publishing iCal' thing? I have some questions:
1. Why isn't my calendar available through my .Mac account?
2. Why can't I publish my calendar, password protect it, and then view it from a browser?
3. Why can't I add events to my calendar from the web version?
If anyone can help me out with these issues, I'd truly appreciate it...otherwise, I'll be looking to get my .Mac subscription money refunded :-((

I'm having the same problem, so I offer no help.
I have seen somewhere that its possible to use iWeb to setup a read-only access to the iCal calendar.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4910136&#4910136
What I expected was to have like the Calendar in Hotmail, but with the ability to use iCal also. But no luck yet.
I'm beginning to suspect the .Mac/iCal was not built for this.
For example, If all information is stored in a single file accessed using
Webdav, how is synchronized access to the file guaranteed?

  • First attempt at iCal Publish and ... confused

I published an iCal calendar and time settings do not appear to match.
A regular, weekly event in iCal defined as 08:00 - 09:00 appears in the published form as 3pm or 4pm.
Is the event replicable or the event parameters replicable to others?
    With solution?
As an edit: Also, chosen calendar colour code (Red) appears as blue on the published variant.
Should the published variant conform to my chosen colour schema?

Published calendar times: these seem partially solved by declaring Time Zone in iCal on events but, for some reason, of the three adjustments made one insists on remaining 8 hours out of sync with iCal (a repeated weekly event).
Does anyone think it is helpful to have Notes appear as part of a published calendar?
The reason I ask is because we have a weekly event due on Monday of the week that occurs unless the day is a public holiday in the UK. Adding a note along lines of Cancelled on 4 May 2009 (Bank Holiday) seems helpful.
2 - can one do a partial sync? If a calendar event is revised does one need to do a full Mobile Me refresh?

  • ICal publishing and invite

I sent out an invite for my calendar and people got that they needed a password and user name. I don't want to give them my username and password. Can I invite them to see the calendar without giving this to them?

An interesting though I also had, but never took the time to actually try. It's still very annoying that Apple is not capable of fixing this bug that has been posted on Radar last November and by then already was marked duplicate...
Here is the redict rule that helped me:
With serverAdmin in your Site configuration create an entry in the Aliases section of your host.
    Type: Redirect Match
    Pattern: (.*)\.ics
    Path: https://myhost.example.com$1.ics
Replace the part in italics with your host and domain. Please reagard that you don't need to mention any path for subfolders where you calendar files may reside in. (I use phpicalendar to have a (view only) webinterface for the calendars I publish and subscribe with collegues)
This Redirect Match will only redirect direct access to .ics files like iCal does or if you download them with a browser. It will not affect the way phpicalendar uses these files to display it's webview of these calendars.

  • Mix published and unpublished events in one calendar?

    Just got an iPhone.
Is there a way to mix published and unpublished events in one calendar?
I've heard that other calendar software have this option.
With iCal on a Mac it's possible to choose which calendars to view, so then it's not a problem to have one published and one unpublished calendar.
But with iCal on iPhone you can only choose between viewing ONE and ALL calendars.
I subscribe to a bunch of other peoples calendars, so viewing ALL is never an option..
So now I would like to write all my events, published and private, into ONE calendar. Is that possible?
    Anyone?

Yes. I tried changing the setting to Sync All Events (instead of the time limited sync) and let it refresh. No change. No display
I also tried rescheduling the event by one hour on the same day (no other changes), then save. No change. No display.
I ended up deleting the events and re-entering them, with identical information (including the recurring end date, remarks, etc., you name it), and then the events appeared like the rest of them in the same calendar.
I'd still like to know if there is a solution to the original problem. I'm still concerned that other events, maybe in the other calendar as well, are no appearing and it's impossible to rely on a sample or to verify every event.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Publishing and synching calendars

I have trying to sort this out. I am currently publishing a 'dojo' calendar for my aikido group using ical and my .mac account and that has been going smoothly. Now I would like to have access to a 'home' calendar I am beginning to use both on my ipod and on both my computers. I do not want my home calendar visible to the dojo members. No problem synching to my ipod. But, can I use my network between my two computers to synch my 'home' calendar without it being published through my .mac account?
    Thanks

    Hi,
That should be no problem. Your .Mac iCal synch function will synch all of the active calendars you have on iCal, but you can individually select which calendars you would like to publish, and where you would like to publish them.
For example, you could use the publish function to publish your dojo calendar on a public page, and you could select to publish your Home calendar (if you even need to publish - you don't need to publish to synch) to a private web page (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61725) Just select the calendar you want to publish, select Calendars drop down menu, Publish, and then choose location.
    hope that helps,
    ML

  • Is Publish and Subscribe part of MobileMe?

I know I will be able to sync to other devices with my iPhone, iCal and MobileMe but I want other PEOPLE to see my calendars like I do right now with iCal using Publish and Subscribe.
So my questions is; will I be still able to Publish and Subscribe with MobileMe?
Oh, the calendars must be password protected as the notes will contain confidential company information.

  • Nonfiction Writing: Being Mindful of Defamation and Privacy Rights

    Fiction vs. Nonfiction
Art has been referred to as the “perfection of nature.” A novelist puts pen to paper and creates a new world in which characters, locations, and events exist for the sole purpose of telling an imagined or theoretical story. These stories can be pure fantasy, loosely based on the author’s experiences, or explore relationships and the human experience through fictional characters.
In contrast, non-fiction writers and authors who pen autobiographies, memoirs, biographies, and biographical novels are writing what they believe to be true about specific events and experiences. As such, they must stick to provable facts, avoid character defamation, and write in a manner that protects the privacy of nonpublic figures.
    Defamation and Privacy
According to the MLA Style Guide for Scholarly Publishing, “In law defamation is a published false statement of fact about a living person that exposes the person to public hatred, ridicule, contempt, or disgrace, induces an evil opinion of the person in the minds of others, or deprives the person of friendly relations in society."
An invasion of privacy can be claimed when there is an unreasonable intrusion on a person’s seclusion, a person’s name or likeness is used without permission for the purposes of trade, unreasonable publicity of the person’s private life and/or publicity that depicts a person in a false light.
    Author Liability
Although libel laws are set and enforced by each state or country, authors cannot be sued for statements of opinion. Neither can they be sued for telling the truth. However, the MLA notes "Belief in the truth of an offending statement is different from the ability to prove the truth of such a statement."
You are, after all, free to tell your own story, but you are not free to tell other people’s stories. When non-public people are named, referenced in, or can ultimately be identified by your readers, you must be able to back up your writing with provable facts.
Traditional publishing houses employ teams of people who carefully fact check and pre-approve all content they publish based in part on an assessment of risk and potential revenue. Since Lulu is a self-publishing company, you are assuming all risk as both the author and the publisher of your work.
But, how can you tell your story and avoid this nightmare of litigation? Well, first you should familiarize yourself with the law in your state or country. If anyone you write about lives in a different state or country, you will also need to familiarize yourself with the libel laws in that locale. Therefore, if you are in doubt, consult a lawyer before publishing your work.
When interested parties dispute nonfiction works based on defamation or privacy rights, Lulu must remove that work from availability unless or until the dispute is clearly resolved. Lulu’s action does not prevent you from publishing your story through another publishing site or traditional publishing house.

  • ICal publishes event before done editing

I have several calendars that publish to icalx.com. When I add a new event and start typing, ical publishes before I am done editing the event. Then I have to double-click or command-E to edit the event and finish it.
I have those calendars set to publish automatically, though if I can't solve this, I would change it back to manual to avoid the hassles...

Perhaps you've just updated your OS and now have the newer version of iCal which is ***** compared to the faster, more elegant older version. The older iCal presented every event's details in a ready to edit format just by clicking on the item in the calendar.
Now you have to double click that item you're interested in (one two) to get a window that shows you the item's details. Then, to edit, you must click the 'edit' button (three) upon which another editable window will allow your event details to be edited. Finally, after finishing your edits, you must click 'done' (four). Yes, that's right, 4 clicks to do what used to require only the initial click to specify which event you wanted to edit.
Four times as many clicks for a utility application that has no further improvements, only this annoying change from what was once a very efficient tool.
I do hope a future "update" will bring back the elegance of the older version with some true improvements.

  • ICal Publishing

I published an iCal from my Powerbook, backed up the file to my G4 moving the plist file and the iCal folder in application support. The G4 iCal no longer appears as a published iCal. What file in the library contains the iCal publishing info that I need to copy from my Powerbook to my G4 or do I need to unpublish the iCal on the Powerbook and then publish on the G4, assuming you can't publish the same iCal from two different sources?
    Keith

Don't know about iCalX but you can do this without problem on .Mac..
Month view is limited by size but clicking on the day will show you that day and all events.

  • How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • Is there a way to copy an ical calendar and then re enter it in ical at a later date?

is there a way to copy an ical calendar and then re enter it in ical at a later date?  i am trying to copy my workout calendar and move it forward but i want to keep the one from june july and august of this year.  I guess techinically it is a recurring calendar but all the exercises recur at different intervals

If you want to share albums on dropbox or similar web services, set the album in your custom order and use the export command to a temporary folder on your computer. To keep the sort order, use the option to rename with a common starting text string plus an order number. Since you'll upload those files to Internet, also use the resizing feature to export in a reasonable size, not too big for uploading/downloading, and not too small if you want your relatives to able to print and not only to view.
So, you'll get a folder ready to upload and share via Dropbox or another Web service.

    Hello,
I am truely confused by how you are attempting to achieve things.
    1. The Office 2013 package is only supported if deployed globally
    2. AppLocker is the way to restrict users from starting different applications
    3. Office 2013 is not supported to be published to users
It seems you have issues with #3. Which is not supported. I am not saying it "doesn't" work, but considering you have issues with it - perhaps we can start by not doing it?
    Ok, so what do we have left;
Per your statement, Office 2013 is published globally. Ergo, all shortcuts and applications should be available to all users.
    Is this true?

  • The images imported to my stage turn up as blank and render every image previous to the rogue imported image as red squares that fill the perimeters of the image which then renders the publishing and scene testing features in flash useless, what can i do

I have been working on animating a scene in flash for a few weeks and recently I have encountered a problem with importing my images on to the stage where the images I import do not turn up, however the key frame that I attempted to import the image onto shows that it is occupied by an image and every frame previous to the key frame that just imported an image that does not show turns up as a red square that fills the original perimeters of the image, there is no solution to this problem any where on the forum and the adobe technical support staff will not help me find a solution to this problem what can I do to get Flash running normally again and fix this problem?????
Also after the first time i publish a preview after i begin using flash, flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found, or if the images if i import any images onto the stage that come up blank and render every image previous to that image as a red square and then try and publish a preview  flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found. What can I do to fix this problem??? there is no solution on the web anywhere to this problem either.

I don't know if Flash has a memory limit of its own. The memory for your Flash file is based on the available memory on your computer.
There is a limit on the number of frames that you can have in any given timeline. I think that it's about 15000 frames, but that's a guess. Flash does all of its work at runtime, this means that no part of your animation is pre-compiled like it is in a video file. So the more objects that you have on the stage, the more work Flash has to do. It follows that the more objects that there are to animate, the more work your processor and the video card have to do.
