ICal reminders bug

I am posting this in case it is of help to anyone or in case anyone knows of a fix.  I have discovered what I think is a bug in iCal on Lion which prevents reminders showing on their due date.  Steps to re-create are as follows:
1. Create a reminder (not an event) with a due date of today.
2. Go to iCal Preferences / Advanced and select 'Hide reminders that are due after dates visible in the calendar'.
3. In iCal select 'Day' view.
4. Select 'Today' to show today's appointments and reminders.
Notice the reminder you created is not visible.
5. Select tomorrow's date from the date picker or the advance arrow.
Notice the reminder with a due date of today is now visible.
This does not happen if the calendar application is used on iCloud itself so I am deducing that this is a bug in iCal on Lion.
Has any anyone come across this who has a fix?

andylel,
Yes, I've notice exactly the same behavior.
Addionally, if you have an iOS 5 device and an iCloud account, the item in the Reminders app will be listed as an "All Day" task. In that item's list the item will have no time associated with it. It's definitely a bug in iCal. The bug also affects third part apps that sync with iCloud, such as BusyCal and BusyTodo.

Bud

  • Ical reminders list won't sort on iphone

ICal Reminders won't sort on the actual device it was intended for - the Iphone
I just talked to Apple Express service over this problem.  I went to the trouble of transferring my to-do list onto icloud Reminders - where each item asked for a priority ranking and where you are then given options for how to sort  all the Reminders you entered - so that it can actually be useable as any Calendar/time management system would be.   I chose "by priority" of course, but you can also choose alphabetically, etc.  It must be said, at least to Apple, apparently, that the point of doing all this is so that the Reminders are available on your actual device - my iphone.  The Reminders all synced immediately to the Iphone.  However, the Reminders list is an unsorted jumble on my iphone.  Even when I tap out a Reminder on my iphone itself and choose a priority, the item remains at the bottom of the list as the last thing I typed in.  Apple Express Support "explains" that the priority ranking and the sorting choices are "not supported" on the device you want to use them on - the iphone.   They offered me "an article" that explains this in detail.   In other words, engaging with the Reminder function and choosing priorities and choosing sort orders is all just a cruel joke wasting your time.  I would have been better off just printing off my Reminders list on paper and circling the high priority items in red ink.  Oh - but you can't print it out either.
Unbelieveable.  Apple's ICal Reminder function actually and actively leads you to engage with completing details and choices that don't even function, or in other words - aren't "supported" on the Apple device they are stated to be designed for.  Is there a device on which this function is actually supported?  "Not at this time"
The only way to have your to-do list sorted on the iphone is to assign a calendar date for each one of them and then they only appear on that specific date.  You would not be able to view your whole list in anything other than the order you happened to enter the items.  No calendar/time management system I know of makes you put a date on every item in a  task list - some tasks have a due date, but most don't.  And every calendar/time management system allows you to sort your list, or view your list in a sorted order.   And print it out also.
Apple advertises this Icloud Ical/Reminders system as a time managment tool and fails to tell us that vital functions don't even work on your iphone.

    Hello Christiansted,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
In addition to shuffle, you probably have repeat enabled. When you tap the screen or cover art while playing a song, the scrubber bar has the Shuffle button at the right end and the Repeat button at the left end.
If the circular arrows are blue, it will repeat the album or playlist.
If the circular arrows have a small number 1 on them, it will only repeat one song
If they are white, Repeat is off.
The User's Guide explains this on page 63:

  • ICal Reminders Continuously Repeating

Suddenly, two days ago, my iCal reminders began repeating even after I dismiss the event, and even after the event has passed.  Every half hour or so I get a notification of about a half dozen events that occurred earlier this week.  This is a new situation for me.  It began happening a couple of days after I started getting notices from MobileMe that there were problems with my notes, keychain, calendars, contacts, etc. (posted that problem in MobileMe discussions).  So now I'm wondering if the two things might be related............
    Help, someone!

  • ICal Reminders - Natural input and lists

Why doesn't the iCal (OS X 10.7) allow natural input for adding new reminders?
Additionally, why doesn't iCal reminders support multiple lists, a feature which was advertised for iOS5 and iCloud?  Will this ultimately be a discrepancy between Lion and iOS5/iCloud?

My suggestion is before you upgrade to Mountain Lion, you should at least consider putting your reminders in iCloud.  Here's an article on the subject: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2599
    And here's a broader iCloud article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4436
From experience, I can tell you that iCloud transitions easily from Lion to Mountain Lion.

  • ICal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links

iCal reminders for iPod and notebook battery have broken links and are not functioning. I went to http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html and midway down on the right side is a link to install a ical reminder. That link does not work with my laptop.
It sends me this link "webcal://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics" but I immediately get an email message stating:
    Error subscribing to the calendar
No calendar was found on http://www.apple.com/images/ipod_icalreminder.ics. Please check the URL.
Likewise, the same thing happens for my notebook. Is there another URL or does anyone have connections at apple to reinstate this dead link.

    Hope this helpful.

  • ICal reminders messed up

I use iCal reminders for upcoming bills and have the reminder set to remind me three days before the bill is due. I will often have the bill repeat in 1 day using the arrow in the iCal alarm window. The problem is that the next time the reminder comes up, the date of the event will be wrong. For example, I have a bill that is due on Friday, September 7, 2007. This alarm pops up on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 as it should. I request this alarm to repeat in 1 day. On the following day, the alarm pops up with a due date of Saturday July 7, 2007. If I request this alarm to repeat, it will actually reset the alarm notification for the event in the previous month. There is no consistency, with some repeating events going reverting by many years. This all began after upgrading to 10.4 from 10.3. I have already tried deleting and recreating all calendars to no avail. Help, please.

  • ICal, Reminders, Contacts integration

Aren't these three applications integrated somehow? Is there a way I can click on a person name in contacts and create a reminder to call them including their contact info in the reminder without having to retype it all. Switching between two or three applications is cumbersome. I find myself triplicating information in all three of these applications. Is there another application that can accomplish this?

There's a nifty App out there called MailTags (http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html).  I've been using it for a year or so on Lion and it connects your mail to iCal pretty well.
From what I'm reading on the MailTags support forum, however, the Mountain Lion version of MailTags, though available, is causing some pretty bad crashing problems at the moment.  I'm personally not installing it until I see those issues resolved.  I would keep an eye on it and wait for MailTags to fix the bugs, then take it out for a spin - they have a free trial.
In Lion with MailTags 3, you would open an email in Mail, click the tag and either assign an iCal Event to the email or an iCal Task.  You made the assignment right inside Mail using the "Tag" and the Event or Task would automatically appear in iCal - and Event/Task would include a link back to the Mail message it came from (which was super convenient).
Tasks in iCal seem to be gone since I installed Mountain Lion tonight. I'm not really happy about that - cannot figure out how to get them back. The "Reminders" icon was added to my toolbar - I'm guessing that Apple killed Tasks in iCal and replaced with Reminders??  Though I'm not convinced I didn't lose some data in this process.
It will be interesting to see how MailTags for Mountain Lion works with these changes from Apple - once MailTags for Mountain Lion gets stabilized anyway.  I was a PC person for 20 years.  The only thing Microsoft does better than Apple is Outlook's full integration of calendars, tasks and mail.  Wish Apple would wake up and see the value to integrating these tools into a single app - bouncing between THREE apps now for this is not productive.  But MailTags is the closest thing I've found to bringing that integration together since I went Mac.  Hopefully they'll have the new release of Mailtags for Mountain Lion stabilized soon, cause I'm already missing it.

  • ICal invitations bug

Hi, I noticed that when my girlfriend sent me an invitation from her .mac to my .mac address, when I accepted, it returned the response to her work email address. Looking at the event and clicking on the drop down triangle on the organiser, it shows both her email addresses (from my Address Book) with the work one first. So I presume the mail response goes to the first email address listed rather than the address used to send the invitation which would be the correct behaviour.
No help requested/expected - just an observation.
    S

I can now explain (I think) why nobody else seems to be able to reproduce this bug - it's caused by using Entourage X with iCal! Invitations sent TO Entourage X are broken when passed into iCal on the recipient's Mac.
Solution: upgrade to Entourage 2004 or switch to Mail. The SENDER's mail program doesn't seem to have an affect.

  • ICal intel bug?

I manage a network of about 20 macs. I had a problem today with 2 users and iCal. They launched iCal and suddenly the calendars have dissappeared. or have they? Technically they havent. the data is still in ~User/Library/Application Data/iCal. And when I open up iCal the info pain displays the name of the last calendar they had used. But the calendars pain is empty. If i switch to day or week view iCal crashes. I took one users data directory and copied it over to a ppc machine, launch ical and it worked with out a hitch. all of the machines are on os x 10.4.8 and current as of about a week or 2 ago.
    any ideas?

Just found out that it might be not an intel bug - just a corrupted calendar...
It sounds like you have a data corruption of some sort in your user data. Make a new user and try using iCal in the new user account. If this works ok then the problem is within your user account.
If so, try these things in order to see if they will help:
    0.
    Backup you iCal data.
Open iCal and go to the File menu and choose Back up Database... to save a copy of your calendar data to your Desktop, just in case something goes wrong.
    1.
    Refresh your preference files.
There are some preference files related to iCal in your user's Library > Preferences. These are called:
    com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
Quit iCal and move these files to your desktop. When you start iCal they will be re-created in the Preferences folder with the default values as needed. This does not affect your calendar data, just preference choices.
You should go into iCal preferences and make any changes you want there after doing this.
If this solves your problem there is no need to do any of the following.
    2.
    Check the calendars in turn.
In iCal un-check all the calendars in the list. You can do this by Command-Clicking one calendar's check box.
Then do the following with each calendar in turn: Check the calendar's check box and see if your problems still exist. If iCal seems to be ok, then un-check the check box and select the next calendar. If the symptoms still exist then this calendar is probably corrupted.
If you find a corrupted calendar in iCal, select it in the calendar list and from the File menu choose Export.. and export a copy of the calendar to your Desktop. Still in iCal, from the Edit menu choose Delete to remove the calendar from iCal. Then from the File menu choose Import... and select the 'Import an iCal file', find the calendar file you saved to your Desktop and import it.
(BTW The iCal calendar data is stored in your user's Library > Application Support > iCal.)
    3.
    Reset sync history.
If you have sync'd your calendar data there may be a corruption in the data stored by Sync Services which will be passed back into iCal when it syncs next.
Open iSync and from it's preferences select 'Reset Sync History' and in the confirmation dialog choose 'Reset Sync History' again.
I hope this helps to solve your problems.
    Best wishes
    Christoph

  • ICal syncing bug?

    Hello,
I don't know if I am posting in a right place, but..
I have an application, which syncs with iCal. And sometimes I get into trouble:
    Situation:
    a) in iCal is a Calendar an task in it, pushed by my application before.
    b) my application deletes those two records
    c) my app creates new identical calendar (with new id of cource) and a event in it.
    Result:
iCal is still showing deleted empty calendar. It is not possible to delete it manually from iCal. It gones, if I turn iCal off and start it over.
If I pull the truth from sync services, when iCal is showing deleted calendar, there is no such info about it.
Syncrospector logs information is available if required.
I wonder if this is a bug of iCal, or something I do not understand.
    Thanks for advices.

There is virtually no one here who would understand what you are asking about. Push, pull, the truth, SyncServices and Syncrospector are terms almost unheard of outside of the developer community.
Write to me off line and I will send you a link to post your question to.

  • Looking for app to extend alarm for iCal - Reminders

We are frustrated seniors new to the apple family. On all devices iMac, iPhone and iPad we only receive alarms when we either pick them up or turn them on.... We are looking for an app that would alarm us for appointments, even if it is only through my wife's iPhone (through the cloud), using iCal or Reminders... We would like to extend the alarm to perhaps 5 minutes then repeat an hour later and keep repeating until we would turn it off manually..... PLS help.... Maggie N John

You can take a screen shot of any page in your iPad.  Simply hold the power and home button for less than an second and you'll hear the camera shutter.  The picture will be stored in your camera roll and you can then email it.

  • Sleep & iCal reminders

I have set my display to go to sleep after an hour of inactivity, but the computer itself is set to never go to sleep. However, iCal does not display reminders if the display is asleep. This means that when I come back to my computer, the reminders haven't come up. Is there any way to get iCal to post reminders even though the display is asleep?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
However, when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep, the networking shuts down, and no emails are sent until I get to work and wake it up.
Hm. True enough. It wouldn't be asleep if it was still sending out emails in the background
    1) Is there a way to get iCal to send out reminders when the computer is sleeping?
No way that I know. Sleep by definition means the computer's functions are suspended. The system would have to wake, spinning up the hard drive and loading the OS so that iCal could then trigger an email, and then go back to sleep.
    2) If not, is there a way to forward my iCal events to Google Calendar? I can download Google Calendar to iCal, but I can't seem to push stuff to Google Calendar.
If you add your Google Calendar to iCal you should be able to put all your events into that calendar. That calendar is CalDAV so it will be updated on the Google server and then also update any other systems that are reading that calendar (Linux and otherwise)
If you are unable to make changes to your Google calendar in iCal I would suggest you remove it and re-add it.
    Hope that helps.

  • IOS 4.2.8 iCal Alarm Bug?

When I create an event in iCal on my iPhone 4 (Verizon iOS 4.2.8) I will set an alarm to notify me of the event, set for an hour before. The alarm/notification does not go off until 3 hours after the start of the event. Has anyone else experienced this?

Figured this out myself. This is not a bug. Apple has an option for "time zone support" in Settings for iCal in case you are in a different time zone than where you originally created an event in iCal. By default this is turned on, and is set to Cupertino - I am located in New York. Hence the oddly timed notifications.

  • ICal import bug when creating calendars in iPhoto 2011

    Hi,
I just created a calendar in the new iPhoto 2011 and imported an iCal calendar to the project.
What I discovered is that it only imports one event per day to the calendar in iPhoto, although the calendar in iCal has sometimes more than one event per day.
Fx. in my calendar in iCal I have two events on a certain date, f.x my mothers birthday and my son's birthday on January 18th. However when importing this calendar to the calendar project in iPhoto only my mothers name gets imported. This was not an issue in iPhoto 2010.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Definitely a bug and unforgivable given the time of year - I usually order a couple of calendars as Christmas presents - If I can't order them in time for Christmas then Apple have lost the business.
It seems to me that iLife 11 was rushed out for Christmas. First the appalling upgrade problems and then the realisation that Calendars were not included. Two patches later and we still have an un-useable Calendar.
The worst part about it is, it's not obvious - I wonder how many people have ordered calendars and not noticed the missing Birthdays. I can see a lot of disappointed friends and relatives next year whose birthdays will be missed.
My only hope is an old backup of my Macbook - pre upgrade. If I can boot from that disk, import my recent photos, import the latest version of the iCal Calendar events, I can recreate the Calendar with iPhoto '09. Not sure I can be bothered,
